Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III and Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Navy Adm. Christopher W. Grady give remarks to the media at the B-21 Raider aircraft unveiling. The B-21 is a long-range, highly survivable, penetrating strike stealth bomber that will incrementally replace the B-1 and B-2 bombers, becoming the backbone of the U.S. Air Force bomber fleet.

Not long before his death in 1980 he was secretly shown a model and specs of the B-2 while it was still in development. HIs comment was, "Now I know why God has kept me alive for 25 years."
Yeah just goes to show if you have a good idea don't ask anyone their opinion because it's not their idea they don't understand I had an idea for Apple tags before the iPhone most people I talk to said it wasn't a good idea one person did

This kind of technology inspires the hell out of me. I never get sick of wondering what's next. Thank you to everyone involved in creating this beauty, from the United States military to Northrop Grumman to taxpaying citizens. This is OUR aircraft. It will help protect us for decades ahead. 🇺🇸

I don't see why to replace it immediately :)
It is a Bomber with large payload capacity, long range, upgradeable but above all it has a low maintenance cost compared to building a expensive new bomber.
Its opponent, the Tu-95 is also an example of saving money.
@@CriscCiaddu The B-52 isn't going anywhere anytime soon. The B-21 Raider is intended to replace the B-2 Spirit by approximately 2032 and the B-1B Lancer by approximately 2036. The B-52 Stratofortress will continue in service with the USAF alongside the B-21 Raider until at least 2050.

Only that people after seeing the replacement of the B-2 and B1-B, immediately think of the B-52 with questions like "But when is the B-52 replaced??"
Let's say that questions like this are quite annoying, classic people who don't pay attention to military expenses.

Notice picture of Grumman F-14 Tomcat in the presentation. Grumman Ironworks might have been bankrupted by Dick Cheney who starved the company out of air defense contracts, but this shows Grumman is still alive in its cutting-edge engineering, innovation, ingenuity and sheer resourcefulness. Hopefully, Northrop-Grumman will win the contract for the 6th generation pure air dominance fighter contract.
They'll be competing in the Navys NGAD contract.
The B-1B flying over was memorable when we worked on this program of the NAAO Lakewood.
We live in Palmdale, a few miles from Plant 42 and the B21 flew over our house last night, so low and so loud, I thought it was going to hit the house. It made 2 passes before heading off, probably to Edwards AFB.

This aircraft hasn't made it's first flight, yet, so what flew over your house was a B-2 Spirit.
At first I thought it was the B2 when it flew over because we have seen them before. I saw this clip and assumed it was the B21. My wife went out into the front yard and saw a big ass plane flying overhead.

@@2020umakemyday it was after 5pm and the sky was dark, so my wife saw the plane’s shadow and blinking lights on the wings. A lot of different planes will take off from Plant 42 on different days and do several fly overs. We see C130’s circling the facility almost every day. People will sit near the west end of the runway at Sierra Hwy & Avenue O to see what is flying around. Whenever we hear the roar of an engine, we will go outside and look around the sky, hoping to see what it is. Before I retired from AT&T, my partner and I did some fiber optic work at Lockheed, Northrop, NASA, and the FAA LA control center at Plant 42.

@@classicgalactica5879 Incorrect. AUKUS has initiated strategic nuclear deterrence force sharing between the US, UK and AUS. They are already getting our ultimate weapon, the nuclear subs.
"Battle management" and "gathering intel" is the keywords that are missed. It can provide Radar and Reconaiassance above your nation and there is nothing you can do about it (in a wartime of course).

@@Texaca F117 is first gen stealth aircraft. US military has gone away from that stealth material long ago and they make new stealth aircraft like f35 which is a completely new stealth tech than that of f117.

There is an Air Force article listing some specs. The wingspan is about 10 shorter on this bird. The top speed is increased and weight is significantly higher. I was surprised about the weight and it looks like the B21 has a single rear gear axel while the B2 has a double axel.

This plane is smaller, slower, has a smaller payload and a smaller combat radius than the B-2. What is the advantage? Stealth?

The Lancer will still serve until approximately 2036.
