  • How the Steyr A1 pistol series perform with their unique trapezoidal sight design and comparing them to similar designs. This is the proper alignment from my experience, hope this helps some people take the guessing game out of the equation.

    Agreed on almost all points. I have many polymers but I shoot this one the best. I can jump back and forth, and its always the most accurate. The learning curve isn’t steep, and once you figure it out, its deadly accurate.

    Thanks . For the info. I did this same exact thing when I shot it this weekend . Was putting the point of the triangle . In the rear sight. Shot low. Going back this weekend to shoot this steyer some more .

      Greg Mizell it's an amazing gun, you will love it.
      They make truglo tfx sights for it as well. On sale at optics planet for only $116.

      I may end up there but I really want to give the trapezoidal sights a chance. It's going to be a home defense weapon so I'll admit that night sights do make a lot of sense in this case.

    Some great points on the sight system. I have an S9-A1. I was lining up flush with top , but I see what you mean. It is a slight tweak , but I think you are on to something . I would never trade them sights .

    I'm 6 years late but I got a Steyr.40 cal 15 years ago. I love the way it feels in my hand & I see the advantage of the triangle sights, but I also found myself shooting low. Very low.
    My job required precision shooting and monthly qualifications so I had to put the Steyr aside. It was also impossible to find a holster ( much less a left-handed holster) for it.
    At the time I got the weapon Steyr didn't offer a .45- my preference - but now that I'm retired, I am pulling that Steyr out of the gun cabinet and going back to school
    Personally, I didn't like the block sights of the Glock when I first started using them. But they grew on me eventually and I became very accurate with them even though they are ugly.
    Instinctive shooting should not be discounted, but learn & become very familiar with your weapon first.

    Great vid! For me though, the Adv. Tac.'s red areas seem to distract the eye, even for a tenth of a second. Might not be anything but those miniscule moments might be critical.

    I've had my m9a1 for almost a decade and it's still very accurate and reliable. Havent done a thing to it other than regular cleaning, takin grips, and a lot of shooting.

    • @milovnikzeli2506

      Hey. How often do you clean your M9 ? After every session or every time you shoot for example approximately 500 round?

    • @richstevens5727
      @richstevens5727 3 роки тому +1

      @@milovnikzeli2506 probably not frequently enough but I've never had a failure. When I shoot I typically put about 300 rounds through each pistol I bring...give or take. And i only clean them maybe once every 3-4 times so about 1,000-1200 rds? If i had to guess but i dont keep track of those things. If i visibly see build up or think it's been a while then I'll tear em down and give em some TLC.

    For me the triangle has to be slightly low and encased within the rear triangle for poa/poi....or my poi is high...if I don't do exactly as I stated....IMHO

    Great video. Was just wondering if you had tried different bullet weights (115 grn/125grn/147grn) on the Steyr and noticed any change in the point of bullet impact?

    • @maximusjoseppi5904
      @maximusjoseppi5904  6 років тому

      i have tried it with 115g training ammo and i usually use 50g civil defense 9mm ammo and they hit pretty much the same. the civil defense is more accurate than my cheap training ammo though, as in just more consistent. as should be expected with defense ammo.

      The steyr sights are the same as glock sights. They can be moved left and right the same way you would a glock. Not fully adjustable, but adjustable for windage none the less

  • @herbvergara1

    My S40-A1 shoots 3" high, so I've got to do the opposite of what you do. Just wondering if this is due to shorter sight radius. I do have an astigmatism in my dominant eye, so this is probably a factor. Really need to slap an RMR or RMS on it--any suggestions for slide millers that work around the specs for this design?

    • @anthonyluisi7096
      @anthonyluisi7096 5 років тому

      Sigelitedark , I have the same issue . The point of the triangle has to be below the rear sight ... so you are not alone . I’m shot 3 inches high also .. just FYI 👌

  • @ccompson2
    @ccompson2 6 років тому

    L9 owner and my point of impact at 20 feet is the exact opposite as the bottom picture. The triangle needs to be slightly low. Impact is "encased" in the trap and top of triangle. About 75 feet it will be exactly like the top picture if i can actually shoot that accurately

    • @maximusjoseppi5904
      @maximusjoseppi5904  6 років тому

      AlcoholTobaccoFirearmsandExplosives85 ya, I'm guessing the different slide lengths will effect impact due to the triangle being smaller from that point of view.

    • @anthonyluisi7096
      @anthonyluisi7096 5 років тому

      I agree with you. I have an M9 compact. I have to line up the sights as you say "encased" to have point of aim, point of impact.
