I agree your not a plasterer till you can float and set, but you have two solid edges too rule off, so your only following the existing. Not doing a wall from start to finish
@@PlasteringForBeginners your good mate really good and videos are excellent and informative. As a fellow plasterer I wouldn’t know where to start making content
Good vid as usual mate. There’s zero need to scratch bonding though, it’s designed to be plastered straight over, hard wall obviously does need scratching though
Yeah I know. I just like to float my work and I think it’s good practice for anyone who hasn’t done it before. It’s just habit to be honest now - it’s hard not to do since doing a lot of float and set ha!
Hi mate , just wanted to thank you for all your time and effort in providing us with such great videos showing us how to plaster and render , because of you , Kirk jonstone and Alex Morley i attempted a ten foot by six foot dog rough wall in my garden , it came out brilliant because of the vast knowledge you guys share with us , and oh my god it is hard graft even on a small wall like mine , thank you so much pal
Would you be able to do a video of how to keep all the corner straight and clean as that what I struggle the most? Or advised what best way doing it easy method?
If you're right handed, you float right to left. Not left to right.... This is because you are tying in the bonding with the existing bonding... Surely every plaster should know this. Skimming is left to right..
Blaine what do you think about using Toupret Interior Filler to skrim whole walls and ceilings? Instead of British Gypsum? Will it work? I bought a load on recommendation but been watching your videos and am having doubts. Have joined your course! Thx for excellent vids
Hi Blaine. I've been plastering the outside of my house with HP12 base coat. I'm a total novice learning as I go. The issue I'm having is when I rule the cement coat is tearing. I'm I not leaving it long enough or or is it the base coat I'm using. I have a brand new feather edge Ive been using and I've 12mm straps of wood nailed to the wall to keep my cement coat even. Any help would be much appreciated thank you. 👍👍
Hi, love you videos and I have got a lot from them, however I have started to build a sip summer house with OBC board. Do you have any videos that show suitable covering for external finishing and vids on internal finishing both direct onto OBC, I don't know if this is a thing. Thank you for passing on all your knowledge Doug
Great video series thanks! Before I knew how to plaster I skimmed some our walls with loads of easifiller looking very wobbly. Hoping to properly plaster the other walls now, but what would you recommend for the walls that are basically soft with easifiller? Do I need to scrape back to the originals walls if I wanted to plaster them properly or is the best option going to be lining wallpaper over the easyfill layer? (They are currently painted but looking quite ripply in some lighting!)
Help… We’ve bought an old house and just found that under the wallpaper we’re removing is hardboard - wooden board with a slightly bobbly textured surface, it was used to cover the insulation. Problem is it wasn’t sealed in any way - they just glued wallpaper on top. Couple of questions I’d really appreciate help with - we don’t have much cash so can’t hire pros! 1) what’s the best way to get the old wallpaper off? Some came off ok, other bits are very stuck. Can we wet it or will that damage the board? 2) what primer should we use before plastering? Or just PVA? Many thanks if anyone can help
Just curious why you use your feather edge upside down?? Flat side up works much better and fits the hand perfectly. Been doing this trade when it was used all day every day give it a try
Learned lots from that, many thanks. I think now I need to leave my plastering until next winter. All my experience to date is it suddenly sets solid . . . Yes I'll have my big water brush ready next time 😁 P.S. was the ratio 2 water to 1 PVA?
I’ve noticed certain brands arnt as tacky or fray on ends, old wives tale is to put it in microwave for a minute, not tried it, I run them in with my mix if it won’t stick, it’s a bit of a ball ache but scrim tape’s important to stop cracking

What !!! Bonding is used only on low suction backgrounds, browning is used in high suction backgrounds. And a blind man could do what he's doing. Hes using a straight edge on existing walls to get the wall flat. How about floating a whole wall from scratch. All these so call experts never show that because they are not proper plasterers.
