I have had the Super Vintage just over a year now and absolutely love it. I run DI as much as possible, but it also sounds great through my Ampeg PF-500. I had the opportunity a few weeks ago at a jam to stand in the audience and hear my rig being played by another player and the tone was fantastic.
Would you tell us what setup did you use for these video? I mean: where did you hook the headphones and how did you power it all? I’d really appreciate . Thanks 👏
Hi, great video like always. If you have to choose one of these: which one would you prefer? And perhaps why? In the meanwhile you have a lot of experience with both units. Would be a great help. Thx!
I think it just had to do with your sonic aesthetic. Both are great units with different character. I personally like the cleaner version of the 64 and the dirtier I prefer the super vintage. Both are great choices, but I am currently using the super vintage. Thanks for watching! ⚡️
Love the sound of that Super Vintage! Just getting back into bass and have been getting suck down the pedal rabbit hole… gonna be a fun time when the time comes to get new equipment!
I’ve been using the Bassrig SV as my ampless rig with in-ears for several months now. I think it’s a killer setup! Thanks for the video and I hope you guys had a great experience over there on tour.
You should check out the Trace Elliot Transit B. I have been using one for about a year and have to say its a pretty elegant simple solution for going direct. I started filling in on bass with a band last August and they all use direct instruments and in-ears. I added a chorus and octave pedal in front and have a pretty robust arsenal of tones if needed. Great video, loving the channel.
Great demo of the range of tones these can produce! I'm enjoying my Super Vintage a lot, but I still find myself gravitating toward the clean sound of my Noble and using the SV as a drive/boost pedal. Curious to know if you've tried either of these with the Noble (before or after in the chain and with the amp out or DI/cab sim). They go great together too, but it seems like overkill to have both on the board sometimes.
This is something I've been thinking about as well. I'm using my noble with the cali 76 and loving it. Just curious about using the amp rig pedals for the cab sounds. I wonder if investing in a great drive/ distortion would be a better purchase. I have heard a video with a dude using the bass rig into his noble. The noble alone sounded better to my ears. ....but they both sound incredible. Do you have any examples you could share of you playing the bass rig through your Noble? (Sorry for the long winded reply)
I got myself an Ampeg SCR-DI preamp after a concert where the sound guy didn't want to use the DI Out from the house amp, and ever since I've been using an actual amp less and less. It's been really nice just carrying my bass and my pedalboard and that's it - easy and fast to set up, less weight to carry and great sound. Would love to try these Origins out though
@@lexwarshawsky5155 Either through headphones or stage monitors. If it's a smaller gig and/or I don't really trust the PAs, I still carry my amp, though
Great video, love the setting, and the sweet tones on this one! That said, I would like to ask two questions if I may: 1. Would you recommend these pedals over a JHS Color box for bass? 2. Have you ever tried a Marshall style preamp pedal on/for bass?
I’d recommend checking out the SansAmp preamps as well if you’re in the market. I’ve been running the VTBass for the last year or so and have really enjoyed it. More options are never a bad thing!
@@riogrande163 : I’ve used my old Marshall JMP 50 head for bass on numerous gigs years and absolutely loved it! I also always had it micd up cause it lacked headroom. I do however use my Soldano SP-77 tube preamp for my bass preamp.
Hey Phil, great video. I really enjoyed your take on preamps. I play p bass Americana with the Ampeg B15n plugin. I have some liber performances and I am looking for a pedal to fly with that can capture that vibe. Do you think the Super Vintage can do it or would I be better off with the Bass Rig 64 black Panel or the new Ampeg pedal? I used a black Panel bassman tube amp for a few years, so that isn't a problem.(Origin, make a B15 version that rocks and I will buy the others in addition to it for backups and other tones, please.) I would prefer a pedalboard with tactile knobs vs a HX stomp all in one. I also dug the upright video today. Thank you Phil!
Thanks for watching! Check out my new Ampeg video to hear the b15 comparison; I think it does a very nice job as a flip top pedal. You’d be happy with these as well, just a slightly different flavor of saturation. Hope this helps! ⚡️
I have an ampless pedalboard with an aguilar db599 comp, a catalinbread sft plugged into the dsm humboldt bass simplifier’s effects loop. And boy, it’s perfect
Y'all still in Holland? Next time you're around I'd love to come out and see y'all! Been seriously thinking about getting one of these or something similar to get a decent straight to FOH rig. Thanks for the good advice in this!
Would it be obtuse to have both of these on a pedal board for 2 totally different amp styles? Thinking the Black Panel for mellower, classic boomy 60s bass tones and SV for more mid scooped, overdriven aggressive tones. What are your thoughts?
I think it makes sense to have both if you’re taking your tone seriously - especially because these don’t have presets. If they had presets, you could probably dial in a mellow setting and an overdriven setting on either of these pedals, then toggle between. Another idea, though, would be to set one for that mellow, clean sound, and put an overdrive pedal in front of it. Then you could turn the overdrive on-and-off to switch between your sounds.
Curious to know what you think about these as an at home recording and quiet practice situation running straight into an interface. Been using a UA Dream for that case on guitar for months and really dig it, or if you maybe thing a plugin is better suited for that.
Tried the bass rig 64 sounded good, but I felt the more drive you gave the pedal the bass would lose some its characteristic creamy thump, woody sort of sound. (I have this same bASS) . What surprised me was that 95% of the time I loved the sound the pedal had the blend at 12 or less that that. So I returned it. I found that if you are want to maintain the bass's great sound intact and just amplify it and have some eq options for it this is not the pedal at least imo.
so this pedal is made to go directly into the pa with no amp or can you put it into a bass amp and change the tone of the amp to that particular pedal like make your amp sound like a svt or like the 64 bassman sorry just learning bass
Check out the ultra affordable Zoom B14X. Would love your review of that unit. It’s an excellent entry into a bass travel rig on a budget that offers built in tuner, looper, drummer, headphone out, and customization of patches.
I’ve been in the market for the svt one for a long time but I still use a hx stomp for my run out the door gig box since I do still use two effects at the most. Some gigs a drive and a sans amp or other gigs a drive and a chorus &reverb mix. I would like to have one of these as a back up in case the stomp bricks on me live. Had only happened in my studio but you never know the only thing that bums me out is you can’t change the speakers I’m like you with that I prefer 12s I also own 2 Aguilar 12s just run my through a svt vr. And yes I work out daily to keep up with the weight 😂
@@philipconradmusic That would be awesome! Can you please include a high gain setting? I think the key feature is the DI & most people looking into this are focusing on a compact solution for live performance.
hey philip can you take the bass rig 64 and the vintage plus a a@b pedal and run them through a powered speaker like a FRFR one and then like have two deferent amps at hand and if so do you know anyone doing this
These are great....however I'm not taking my Sansamp off my pedalboard any time soon....the Sansamp also has a battery compartment for the 9v dc power should I have a gig where minimal gear/footprint is required. These pedals are so great! I use both of them in parallel and mix the sounds. Works a treat.
Please do a comparison with these to the Noble. How close can the tube emulation of these pedals match up to a tube DI?
They both sound really good...and I like your reasoning behind having one of these with you e.g. "Insurance".

This video finally made me understand the importance of a solid preamps DI. Great video and I like them both, but see me using the Blue more

They really got the 6L6 fur in the Blackface box, I like the SHowman setting a bunch. Spendy tho....
Yep, but cheaper than the real thing and very convenient. Worth it IMO. Thanks for watching!

Hi May I ask you of I can go from the AMP OUT of one into the input of the other? I would like both in my pedalboard
For live gigs would you use Bass Rig or Noble Di, or something else?
I don’t have a noble. It costs almost 3 times more. I use the Bass Rig currently.
@@philipconradmusic agreed, thanks! Btw, love your videos!
The Super Vintage for me. Hardly surprising as I run a Tech21 VTDI.
