As far as consecutive years, yes it goes '88-2000 BUT.. 2007's "Zeitgeist" and 2012's "Oceania" had songs that absolutely compare with the OG 90's stuff.
Not taking those comments too far one way or the other, I totally agree. I am enjoying their new release 8/2/24 but it isn’t Lull, Gish, or Siamese Dream, Mellon Collie or Pisces. That was a long lasting peak.
in that boat right now. Had like 300+ pumpkins tracks for a couple years, I got content. Went down a rabbit hole and now have about 25 tabs open of pumpkins demos i've never heard ... good ones too ... like wtf is this band, I love it
This was on the original Smashing Pumpkins tape they released locally in 1989. They remastered it and it now comes with the Pisces Iscariot Deluxe Box Set in the original tape format
they should totally release a CD or boxset or something of all the pre-gish material, I mean there are so many Pumpkins songs that you can't find on any release!
Wow, nice mullet Jimmy... It makes me happy and sad looking at these pictures. I saw the Pumpkins at both KC shows this past monday and tuesday. It was a really good concert, but so far removed from their beginnings.
i use to get so drunk and crazy with this song ehan i was young... i remember that no one here in my town in honduras had this... well, i was the only pumpkins die hard fan in that era... what a fucking good times...
well, you may like his voice better then,, but you must admit, his signature Mellon Collie era voice is sooooooo iconic and weird sounding; i think if he didnt have such a distinct, crazy vocal style, they may not have been as recognizable or big as they were.
Here's the thing. I felt pretty fucking special that I had a rare mix tape back in the late 90s with this song on it. Now that it's on you tube, it's fucking great, but what's lost is just how rare this shit was back then! How hard this great music was to come by.
I remember those days well. The early websites like the Realm Of Soft Delusions and SPAA slowing building up collections and the many many hours I spent downloading what I could download in 10 minutes now, trading rare bootlegs and visiting the bootleg fairs in the hope that they'd have something new. The excitement amongst the Pumpkins online community whenever something no one had heard before appeared...
zoopopzoo experimental rock in an early 90s radio interview they did not want to be associated with the grunge scene and joke about how they get annoyed with Europeans especially assuming they came from the Seattle Grunge scene when the came from Central Illinois and the suburbs of Chicago and how others just rode on that wave even though they did not come from that part of the country cough cough Eddie Vedder another Illinoian , his earlier stuff was closer to a mixture or late 70s early to mid 80s punk mixed with goth like the Cure but yes in response to the other comment obviously artist whether they admit it or not are influenced by those before them
Somethingclever well they were born in the late 60s and early seventies and even I born in 1980 have parents that were influenced by that era people in the early eighties still dressed like it was the seventies and didn’t really change until the mid eighties then they had big hair and the awful mullet cut which Jimmy Chamberlin sported Lol for a short period of time in the late 80s William and James hair was longer than D’arcys
Tried to tell her who I really am But I'm not so sure that I really can Well you got to know, I don't understand Well you got to know who I really am Give me one more chance As a child I once had a dream My mother spoke something down to me She said, "Son, you must walk upon your knees" "Down the road, headed for the east" Give me one more chance Give me one more chance If I had a way to go I'd gather up my throwing stones Tired to tell her who I really am But I'm not so sure that I really can Well you got to know, I don't understand Cause I'm not so sure who I really am If I had a way to go I'd gather up my throwing stones (yeah) If I had a way to go I'd gather up my throwing stones (yeah)
I was lucky enough to be a teen in this era and it truly was the best. Before cellphones and computers were commonplace and the music scene was amazing. I saw SP at least 14 times and some were in small venues that no longer exist. It was truly a magical time for a lot of reasons. D’arcy could have been a little nicer but, ya know…. 🤷♀️ The band as a whole was pretty damn amazing and had great shows! I can’t hear out of my right ear and it’s SP fault. 😂. True story, I stood too close to the huge amps too many times back then and have been paying for it ever since.
Ok, first time i listen this. A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!!!!!!! When i though i've listened to all th SP songs (not the new ones :/, sry for the people who likes it) i find this. I'm almost crying.
Anyone else notice Billy's voice was so different prior to 90? He actually had like a smoother sounding Vibrato...instead of his trademark screetchiness. I think I prefer the 88 Billy vocals to the rest. Wish he would try to recapture a little of that vocal stuff...maybe his V-Chords are burnt out.
I had a terrible looking bootleg 7” called demo cuts that had this and Jennifer ever on it. This was definitely the better track. I love that the pumpkins always had so many unreleased tracks. I was always finding bonus nuggets
It's not on any official release as was a demo tape they did but if you go to thepumpkins (dot) net, then go to the Music section you can find the full demo tape under the name (1989) The Smashing Pumpkins Demo Tape. Also check out the WZRD radio broadcast which has an excellent live version.
i know i had a cassette with this song on it back in the day and im pretty sure it was a different version. it was heavier and not as clean. funny thing is the b-side of the tape was spooky kids stuff :P. smashing pumpkins/marilyn manson demo tapes
Did you find this on one of the Pumpkins' fan sites with demos and stuff? And those pics...I'm a big fan and I haven't seen a lot of those. Thanks for posting!
i mean, yeah, but before the voice change, he just sung differently pre-SP, ya know? Like, i think he knowingly changed his style on purpose. Heck, i did it, though
hahaha yeah! but Billy Corgan reminds me the singer of an animated band hiting strong here in Italy not being a million dollar production. Search for SWAVE IN THE FUTURE
A demo from 88 is better than the 300 songs they released in the last 20 years. They used to be the best band in the world, now they are definitely the worst, it is so embarassing
This band was capable of putting out amazing music every year from 1988 to 2000. And from 1993 to 1996, they were the best band I have ever heard.
Oceania is a masterpiece
So 2012 too
I disagree there’s some bangers off of zeitgeist and monuments to an elegy

Funny. I think you meant ceases.
Yeah, it may have been a typo; but it's the vibe that counts man :)
pretty fucking poetic typo. seize me and amaze me
@@sineadfigiel5946 right!
Billy Corgan and the Smashing Pumpkins are far and AWAY the very best band of their generation!!!! ❤️
Best band ever.
Still is
i love the way d'arcy's bass sound here
+Blast Off!
Yeah, its a good riff here.
I always like her tone its really powerful
Probably played by Billy since it is a studio-recording ;)
@@Fauss billy only played all of the instruments on siamese dream the rest were done by the band equally
@@silverfckGish had a lot of Billy on everything.
This song is so raw it kicks ass they must add this to itunes
The photo collection for this video is stellar. I love seeing Billy with hair! :D
He looks like someone I could chill with when he had that long hair.
This was on the original Smashing Pumpkins tape they released locally in 1989. They remastered it and it now comes with the Pisces Iscariot Deluxe Box Set in the original tape format
false
absolutely love the pumpkins
so unique

Billy with his hair tied back is a cursed image and shouldn't exist
Just wait until you see pictures of Billy in a dress lol
@@jacobwheeler7402 This one is actually bad though

I think he looks cute
Do you really think it's that bad?

I really dig that blue velvet that darcy has!
Good that these songs are up. I have the Pisces Iscariot box set, but don't have a cassette player to play the bonus demo tape.
Got a bootleg in '93 called Pumpkin Seeds with this and other greats, love that cd.
Wow, nice mullet Jimmy...
It makes me happy and sad looking at these pictures. I saw the Pumpkins at both KC shows this past monday and tuesday. It was a really good concert, but so far removed from their beginnings.
probably the best video on youtube. storied song. killer video. great job. 3 thumbs up.
Wow, Billy with a ponytail!
i use to get so drunk and crazy with this song ehan i was young... i remember that no one here in my town in honduras had this... well, i was the only pumpkins die hard fan in that era... what a fucking good times...
Like a backwards Cherub Rock riff.
its funny to me how Billy sung differently pre SP and as SP started taking off. I think during this time, he was still trying to find his voice.
+Chris Hernandez He should have kept this voice, it's much less annoying. Even siamese dream wasn't that bad, but I prefer the demos and gish voice
well, you may like his voice better then,, but you must admit, his signature Mellon Collie era voice is sooooooo iconic and weird sounding; i think if he didnt have such a distinct, crazy vocal style, they may not have been as recognizable or big as they were.
Yeah I guess so
yeah this was way before he found his weird chipmunk tone.. i like this one much better..
"Chipmunk tone". He just did far less with his voice around this time and probably didn't know how to do much more
Perfect song . Brazil ♥️
Fantastic pictures!

+Juraj Kozlok uuuuh well, I love the oldie SP so I dont understand the reason of your answer :/
I love it too. Its just when people comment about how they love the old stuff always have to state the fact that they hate the new SP.
Well, sry but it's the truth. It's just disgusting. Maybe Billy see this type of comments and think with his head...
