    Some people seem to have missed the point of the Slim here, it's supposed to look old style. That's the way it was styled by its designer, not sleek modern like the Victory.
    Hey you ride whatever you wanna ride but I'll be keeping my Slim thank you.

    Victory beats the shit out of Harley, hands down

  • @DM21Constellation

    How does the Harley set the standard for fit and finish? It looks like shit compared to the Victory.

    • @DM21Constellation
      @DM21Constellation 10 років тому +7

      Seriously - I don't get it. The Victory has a spine that stretches the length of the bike. It has an integrated seat that sits inside of the gas tank. It has a brake light that is built into the rear fender. The front turn signals are attached neatly on the forks instead of hanging off the grips like the Harley. The Gunner sports an LED tail light. We all know how important visibility is at night - people need to see you. All in all, the Victory is gorgeous.
      The Harley looks like complete and utter crap. You can see several rubber grommets from where hard parts sit on the frame. The gas tank looks like it was installed by a build it yourselfer - there isn't any symmetry with the seat where the two meet. Cables and rods are exposed. That brake light sits on top of the rear fender. The bike looks like it was made in 1970.
      To suggest that somehow the Harley is setting a standard in Fit and Finish is a joke. I have no clue why you would say such a thing - there is nothing to back that statement up.

    • @DM21Constellation
      @DM21Constellation 10 років тому +5

      Hell - Just look at the two sitting side by side. The rims on the Gunner look amazing, and custom (and those are STOCK). The blacked out look of the Gunner also looks impressive - again, stock. Compare the blocky side cover of the Harley (which has cables hanging over its side) compared the angled side cover of the Victory. Even the TIRES look better - with the white lettering for Dunlop etched over the tire, it has a vinatge look on a custom, modern looking cruiser.
      You people need to get your eyes checked.

      DM21 Gaming I think the category "fit and finish" is nothing more than opinion overall. Harley is more of the classic minimalistic looking cruiser where Victory is a more redefined modern cruiser. For example, the Harley Softail Slim would be a 1967 Camaro where as the Victory Gunner would be a 2015 Camaro. There is no denying that the Victory Gunner is a better performing motorcycle than the Harley Softail Slim, and a far greater value when you consider the price of these bikes. The people who deny that, are just the die hard Harley-Davidson fans who seem to lack common sense when comparing anything to a Harley. Now having said that, I still prefer the classic Softail Slim styling over the Gunner, but is it worth the price difference on paper? Doubt it.

    The Victory's engine is a technology wise up to date engine, while harley davidson motor is a legacy engine still using technology form the 40's and 50's with that chain drive primary side and pushrods not to forget the multi hole engine changes.
    The Victory motor is simplified in every way from it one hole oil fill, one hole oil drain, 5.5 quarts of oil flowing through a upfront oil cooler, and a gear drive primary, and with the wet sump design burning a clutch out is very very rare, and if you do the clutch pack is a simple $340.00 dollar one nut slap in and your back on the road.
    There is no comparison to the victory design and harley who has a legacy design instead of a low maintenance bulletproof, super cooled design as victory. HD could learn a thing or two from Victory & Indian bit even in 2017 with their new motor they still slapped a chain drive primary on the dam bike.

    If I cared about 15 lbs or "attacking" corners I wouldn't want either, I'd ride an r1, both bikes look good. The harley projects a little tougher old school look, while the gunner is a little more streamlined and of a current cruiser...I prefer the harley myself, not sure why but it just looks better to me. I've ridden both, and while the victory does make more power and weighs slightly less, both bikes are comfortable and handle well for there sizes...both good bikes

    i think the victory is an amazing modern design motorcycle and absolutely looks the part however i think everybody is forgetting what the harley is supposed to look like. Its meant to look classic and is classic. I personally love the harley and think its shape and proportions are so nice. If they were the exact same quality and price i'd pick the harley for looks. although i think the victory looks more expensive.

      Todd Oesterreich Perhaps the looks aren't your style, I can understand that. I prefer Cafe racers and not everyone likes that style. Take a Victory engine and put it into the frame of a Harvey of your choice and you have effectively made a real motorcycle. The best of both worlds, an engine that has power and won't break after just 20k miles AND you get to keep up the image with your 'Harley' bike and iPhone. I would love to see a poll on Harvey riders to determine the percentage that have iPhones. Harvey riders are much more concerned with their image than they are with the quality of their bikes. That's why HD makes more money as a clothing company than a motorcycles one. Maybe they should stick to what their good at.

    The HARLEY family sold the family business and got of the motorcycle business, in 1969-1981, when they sold out " the so-called most prestigious name", for hard cash, to a bowling ball manufacturer, named AMF, which didn't know a motorcycle from a whole in the ground. The HARLEY family took what money, they could and ran out fast..........and during the AMF year, nobody wanted the poor quality of the HARLEYS produced during those years. Couldn't compete with performance or durability with the Rice Burners, an British bikes.So, The HARLEY Family bought the company back from AMF, in 1981, and they knew they had to design a bike to compete and not leak oil as the older model Harleys, were known for, "prestigious name" and all. It wasn't tell they came up with the EVOLUTION or BLOCKHEAD 1,340cc, (80 CID) engine, that put H-D on sold, financial ground again. It was the engine which saved Harley, with it's single cam reliability and good looks. The engine was so good, they couldn't make money on parts and service.Then H-D saw a way to make a "killing" on parts/service, ditch the most successful, engine, they had ever produce, (1984-1998) and introduce the junk, inferior, Twin Cam 88. Now, instead of having a flywheel, that had a crank pin bolt and nut torqued, to hold the flywheel assembly together, like on the EVO, they would simply press together both halves of the flywheel with a 400 press at the factory, thus, ensuring that the flywheel would soon come out of true and begin to cause the sprocket and pinion shafts to "wobble" in excess of the stock max run out of 0.001", or less, and as it wobbled, more and more out of true with each revolution of the engine and each mile, it would finally wobble out to 0.003", where it would begin the self-destruction process of the engine' bushings, and bearings, and eventually as it wobbled more and more out of spec, it would cause IMMEDIATE CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE. The only solution, is to buy a new H-D, and immediately tear apart the engine, and take the flywheel to a performance specialty shop to have it dynamically, trued, balanced, plug the WELCH plugs and weld them and thus ensure the flywheel, sprocket and pinion shaft remain at 0.001" or less, of run out.H-D, also made a choice to ditch the METAL GEAR DRIVE for the two camshafts like they had on the EVO, engine to operate both the oil pump with a METAL GEAR DRIVE and the single cam with a METAL GEAR DRIVE, and instead opted to put PLASTIC, yes, PLASTIC tensioners, on their two silent chain drives to operate the oil pump and the Two Camshafts. Now, you would have a PLASTIC tensioner, rubbing against a Metal silent chain and thus ensure that the PLASTIC tensioners would have to be periodically inspected, (for a price) and have to be replaced, when wear reached 3/32" of wear. Lots of money to replace this critical engine components made of PLASTIC, in a metal engine. H-D, chose not to disclose to the buyers of TWINKIES, in either the OWNERS MANUAL or THE SERVICE MANUAL, at what mileage interval, the inspection of these shoes, should be made at. Totally up to the customer to find out, on their own. Most TWINKIE buyers, don't even know about the PLASTIC cam chain tensioners, much less to inspect them. Failure to replace these small parts, will cause them to wear out and break apart inside the engine, and then it's just METAL TO METAL CONTACT and the metal shavings, produced are then inducted into the oil pump, crankcase and cylinders, and thus causing, IMMEDIATE CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE. Imagine going at cruising speed, when the engine seizes up and locks the rear wheel and then the cratered oil pump, starts spewing out 250 degree, hot, oil all over the rear tire, what a cheap thrill that will be. The engine cannot be rebuilt, has to be trashed and another TWINKIE engine is bought and starts the cycle all over again. A GUARANTEED CASH COW FOR H-D.There are many YOU TUBE VIDEOS POSTED, BY H-D OWNERS, WHO HAVE FOUND OUT THE HARD WAY, THAT THIS IS NOT YOUR DADDY'S H-D, anymore. In Fact, the front forks on all H-Ds are bought from SHOWA a Japanese company, for the past 30 years, that is why they are listed in METRIC SIZES, and not in American Standard sizes, like say a 43mm front fork.H-D TWINKIS HAVE ABOUT 85 O-rings, gaskets and seals to VICTORYS 6. And a gasket, o-ring and seal, either works or it doesn't. The more one engine has the greater chance of eventual failure. The Victory uses METAL GEAR DRIVE TO OPERATE THE OIL PUMP AND CAMSHAFTS, NOT PLASTIC TENSIONERS, LIKE H-D. VICTORY PRODUCES MORE TORQUE AND TORQUE IS THE NAME OF THE GAME IN BIG CRUISERS, IT'S WHAT PROPELLS A BIKE, EFFORTLESS, DOWN THE ROAD. H-D, CAN'T KEEP UP ON THE ROAD WITH THE VICTORY.CAVEAT EMPTOR-LET THE TWINKIE BUYER BEWARE.

      Okie Rider You still haven't figured it out, have you? that Harley-Davidson is considered the standard for every other motorcycle maker. Hell, why do you think the Japanese, and every other wannabe, apes the HD's look and sound? Feel proud that HD is an original, not an imitation.

    • @Sig721Tau
      @Sig721Tau 9 років тому

      tryarunm Actually, Harley Davidson copied off of Indian Motorcycles. That's a fact, sir! Indian made the very first "cruiser" or "standard" in America. But I don't see how the Japanese brands are trying to look or more importantly, sound like a HOG. My 1985 Yamaha 550LTD never sounded like a Harley. And neither did my Star Stratoliner.

    so we have here another apples to oranges payed by victory review. Why comparing a softail to victory cruiser? Softail is what it is a modern more comfortable version miking old hardtails from 30-50s with low floorboards, strange handlebars and laced wheels, while gunner is more modern cruiser with looks from futuristic comic book. Why dont you take a Streetbob special or Fatbob for the comparison? Fatbob out-corners and out-brakes the gunner easy. Also stock Vic 106 engine doesnt have such a edge to stock 103 HD as they describe here (Vics press test bikes dont have stock fuel curves!) while the OHV harley is way more efficient that Vics OHC. Also the price difference of theese two bikes is not 4 grand but 2-2.5 grand. Lies over lies, well we got used to it, its Victory standard.

    The Vic offers more power, better handling, better suspension, 1/2 second faster to 60mph (that is an embarrassing ass whoop'n) and better brakes, all for $4k less(seriously $4k)......when will theses bike mags stop offering up Harleys for these so called "serious" comparisons? Because Harley's offering sounds way too much like amateur hour and wishful thinking to me. Also, like DM21 said......there is actually some "real" fit and finish happening on the Vic. Like where the tank meets the seat for example and the inset tail light. Wake up Harley fans and ask your selves what you are paying all that extra money for.

    • @AdoreYouInAshXI
      @AdoreYouInAshXI 9 років тому

      You wouldn't understand unless you've owned or ridden a newer (2013-15) Harley. Harleys are top notch in fit and finish... they will never look like a modern cruiser. And I'm not a Harley lover either... I ride a KTM.

    • @gusalmighty5098
      @gusalmighty5098 9 років тому +2

      AdoreYouInAshXI It always makes me smile to hear people try to justify Harley over inflated prices with the words "fit and finish". They always say it like every other bike on the market is brush painted and assembled with hot glue and scotch tape. There is no "fit" on most Harleys. With the exception of the baggers all their other cruisers are just parts stuck to a frame. You don't see the custom touches like inset tail lights and split tail gas tanks for a perfect seat/tank transition. I will never under stand how anyone pays almost $30k for a bike that vibrates so hard the you can not even use your mirrors to see if the car approaching from the rear is even attempting to stop when you are sitting at a light or a 4 way stop. Fit and finish will never correct lack of R&D or poor design.

    • @AdoreYouInAshXI
      @AdoreYouInAshXI 9 років тому +1

      Russell Williams It's clear you've never owned or ridden one and I don't have the time to educate the ignorant... but I will say this.
      As I stated (to the obviously deaf) they create their bikes around old designs. You want "custom" features? Buy a updated cruiser from Japan. I'll continue to listen to professional critics and stick to actual personal experience instead of the words from youtube haters. HD has sold more of their bikes than any other manufacturer has in the US in 2014. They also have sold more new bikes across the board to young adults, ages 18-34, blacks, hispanics and women in the US than any other manufacturer (again, in the US). In other words they rank among the very top selling motorcycles in the world and are probably number one in the US. Which is feat considering that they *are* very over priced, a point I actually agree with you on. Why would HD change their design and try to "customize" it when it outsells everything else on the market?
      The one bike that they tried to change up was their worst selling and most frowned upon bike, the V-rod. Things haters say about oil leaks, vibrations, maintenance etc. simply aren't true on newer models. The vibrations on the softail class of bikes is vastly superior. Yes, it's still present on certain models.
      Again... I'm not even a Harley lover. I currently ride a KTM and also own a BMW. I'm just a motorcycle enthusiast and I base my opinions around personal experience, not youtube hearsay. Even though I'm sure you'll retort with how you have a lifetime of experience with HD and it's all horrible. As with everyone else online where we can all be whatever or whoever want.

    • @gusalmighty5098
      @gusalmighty5098 9 років тому

      AdoreYouInAshXI Well clearly you need to educate your self......because they absolutely do vibrate like paint shakers still to this day. If you say no then you have never even seen one idle. The only exceptions would be the balanced softail motors or the v-rod. The v-rod was such a poor seller because it sucks. It is good for 1/4 mile runs against other cruisers and that is about it. It handles terrible the suspension sucks and the brakes are just ok. Not a lot to offer for their price tag. I WILL get custom touches with a Victory and it will be every bit as American made as HD. The name alone sells Harleys nothing else. Go get your self a Harley if you like them so much why waste your ride time in here doing your own hate'n on "haters" hypocrite.

    • @AdoreYouInAshXI
      @AdoreYouInAshXI 9 років тому +1

      Russell Williams I'm hating on haters because you are obviously ignorant and ignorance and stupidity should be pointed out, laughed at and purged whenever spotted. I'm doing humanity a favor.
      Your comments on the V-rod are, just like the majority of the rest of your opinions, ignorant and unfounded. And I hate the V-rod.
      As far as the vibration I specifically stated it's still present on certain models. Not Softails. However... I'd much rather have some vibration than lean over and have a gigantic gas tank jammed into my chest while laying down on what feels like a whale. Where is all your hate on super sports? They have flaws. They also handle like shit unless your rocketing in a straight line or riding the twisties.
      With opinions like yours I assume you've ridden many Harley's? Let's see some videos. Until then your words are wind. I can post many videos of my experiences with Harley's (as well as with KTM, BMW, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha), or I can link you to my channel with several.

    If we based our motorcycle purchases on better engineering, modern styling and better performance, Harley would have been out of business years ago. I dislike victory because it is loosely following Harley in many ways. For example, their 106 goes across their lineup like the Harley's 103. They use a v twin instead of all of the different configurations out there. They use belt drives like a Harley, not shaft or chain. Only one American motorcycle brand has stood the test of time. Victory is changing the minds of Harley fans by offering them a variation of a Harley, a Harley knock-off if you will. This just makes the whole Victory brand seem cheap to me. If I were to switch from Harley and go with what's "Better", I would look into what Japanese bikes have to offer. I guarantee, you will find "Better" bikes for cheaper.

      Danny Pike and then Indian comes along and slaps Harley in the face and proves you can build a modern and reliable pushrod V-Twin engine

    Why compare the slim and not the Dyna? It is a much better match than the Vic and in my opinion much better than the vic. Dont like the slim nor the gunner but for $4000 less it will attract attention, but its not a Harley. Both good bikes just a matter of preferance but remember the Gunner doesnt have ABS brakes and the Slim has a better transmission hence the higher price tag. So the question is what dollar value to you put on your life? Id say ABS! You do get what you pay for and resale will be a little higher and sell faster with the Harley. Food for thought, ride safe.

      ***** first let me say thank you for your service, and express my condolences for the paratroopers that died earlier this year. With respect to the review and my comments....I did not say anything about feeling safe with ABS, in fact the bikes I chose and that I ride do not have ABS, RZ500 and HD Night Train. My point was quite clear that a bike with ABS and a better transmission is priced higher and hense the price difference. Amd I agree with your point that common sense goes a long way.....remember the saying that ......common sense is not so common lol. Ride safe.

      If I was to choose between the slim and the gunner, I would choose the gunner. But too bad its not a HD, Id hate to have to buy new leathers lol. Ride safe.

    The Harley Softail is not made for performance. It doesn't have a conventional swingarm on it. It's made to ride like a Cadillac! So why do they compare this ugly ass victory too it? Victories are so cheap looking up close on top of how ugly there are! You don't see Harley making a video like this because they don't have too! Polaris should just drop victory and put all their efforts into Indian.

      boy talk about a prediction, 2 years later, and victory is gone. leaving Indian as Polaris's main bike brand.

    I owned a victory hammer s and I can honestly tell you there is not that much difference in speed, infact if you look at there torque curves victory have more down low but drop off quicker. most people wouldn't be able to tell, the Harley sounds smashes victory which has no charisma, and the finish on the victory is the worst iv ever owned. they had like one very thin clear coat over the paint so after a couple washes all I could see was a stream of hair line scratches. check out the forums this is common with victory's. Harley paint is second to none. not to mention all there other design cue,s that well...lack form... sure the slim cant lean as far but if you want a slammed asthetic than that is the payoff. there are plenty of Harleys in the line up with a better lean angle, just picked up a 2015 48 sporster and the transmission is buttery smooth and they have now added keyless ignition, and tacho and gear indicator on there speedo's so they are deffinetely listening to consumers. it seems a lot of victory advertising mention Harley Davidson???. I regret owning a victory

    I've ridden and owned a lot of brands. I've found things to like and dislike about all of them. One thing that I have noticed over the years is that guys that are hung up on one brand to the point of mania are all douchebags no matter the allegiance. I have a Heritage myself. I don't drive it hard enough to scrape pegs much but then I'm old and fat. I like BMW's a lot and I think Yamaha makes a pretty good v twin cruiser as well. I'm sure that Victories are good bikes, lots of loyal riders there, but I just can't get behind that styling. They are just not my style,especially the Victory baggers......just yuck, really....yuck.

    Forget all the talk about who builds a better bike etc...I have been guilty of it too. But I will tell you what will be HD's downfall in the end. The godamn monotony! You can literally search a photo of a 1999 Electraglide for example. Then a 2005...then a 2012...then a 2017. And it's all the same bike. No innovation..the changes they make to HD's you can wring out of a dry towel. They sell a ton of bikes....but every HD rider I know...trades their 2010 bike for the exact same 2017 bike.
    And I can tell you that as an analyst for years whenever you look at numbers as far as the best selling brands in the US you can be easily fooled. HD holds a huge market share in the US and that is true. But how is that share measured? Sales. That does not mean it is the best brand in the US. It means they generate the most money. I went and looked at a pre-owned HD at my local dealer a week ago...next to it was another pre-owned HD that was $36k !?! WTF. When you are selling bikes at 3 times + the price point of most of your competitors, you don't have to sell as many as they do to claim top dog in dollars sales...but I would like to look at movement sales...units sold. That may prove to be a very different result.

    The Harley is a gorgeous classically styled bike but the floor boards should be eliminated and replaced with pegs. The Victory is nice but really, a back brake that locks up easily and no ABS option? Good luck. Its not for me.
