I have a highly speculative idea about the process of creating black blades that I thought would be pretty neat if true. What if a black blade can only be created if the wielder not only proves their worth to the sword, and masters haki coating but also ties their life force to it so that if they should allow that blade to break, they forfeit their life. It's a pact of devotion that cements the wielder's love and respect for the will of the blade and discourages negligence and carelessness in handling the blade itself. idk, I think that would be pretty fitting.

It’s not a full explanation, but I think JoyBoy’s “tying knot” method of locking his haki into the iron giant is related to the way Black Blades are created.
I think the black blade might be the haki buildup from the previous owner. Like Joy Boy sealing his haki into the giant robot for a life or death situation. So that can be why black blades are black. They might fluctuate grades depending on the buildup and release of the haki inside.
I'd imagine that the black coating is a similiar or related technique to what Joy boy did to Emet. Like advanced A-Haki leads to a permanent coating and C-Haki forms as a knot.
I feel we got good info w seeing Joyboy store his haki in Emet. Idk if there is a difference between temporary haki and permanently stored haki. Like maybe the weilder needs to pay a huge haki toll to turn a sword black, and it's permanent. Maybe you keep enough haki to live, but you put a lot of your power in the sword. Which is probably fine as long as you have that sword w you at all times, I imagine you can reclaim some haki boost from your sword.. I wonder if a blade can be turned back..? Or can the blade now fatigue like a living person potentially..? idk
