i feel like this song is about driving as fast as you can. right on the line, on the limit and crashing LOL. when he says crushing metal, ripping skin, tossing body... bleeding gas spitting glass. James is a known speed fanatic.

Death Magnetic is a modern day Master Of Puppets.
Trashy and riffy af, classic 'Tallica formula - clean intro album opener, 4th song is a 'ballad', one song is down tuned, second to last song is an instrumental and album closer is a trashy fast song - in this case a modern Damage Inc (both breakdown riffs awesome and written by Kirk)
For me, D.M. is a mix of M.O.P. and also ...And Justice For All (because AJFA is also overdone a bit like DM)

Death Magnetic is an underrated album. This album has such a nostalgic feeling of AJFA(1989)
Also do listen to BEYOND MAGNETIC(2011) , it is an EP containing unreleased songs of Death Magnetic
Props for going more in-depth on Death Magnetic...its a fine later in their career album from Metallica and a great rebound from St. Anger. I actually do like this song.

"Apocalypse" in greek means more like my "revealing" or "unveiling" as a Marine, served 2 tours in Iraq mostly in around Fallujah, this song is about how much i learned about myself... but such is the beauty of music: we are both correct, so neither of us are
