Took me back, I was working as a gardener in Georgian manor house walled garden with a tinny transistor radio, David Hamilto was the afternoon DJ and played it frequently. Also the awesome Hatian Divorce was in the charts at roughly the same period.
The Alessi Brothers had a band in the 70’s that was quite popular here on Long Island, where they are from. It was Barnaby Bye and I had their album. There was a local hit song, Laneya, and their harmonies were exquisite.
I love this song, its in my guilty pleasure playlist. This is the first time I've seen it cover acousticly. It realy does show what a great song it is, with chord arrangements to suit. You do a brilliant job of your tutorials, I'm going to give this one a go.
Awesome and beautiful guitar touch and hammering…. Rooooh it sounds so sweet … I’m just a ukulele player… and playing that song which I love for ages… I started to work it out just few days ago… and I realized, this song is more complex than it seems to be… and very satisfying once you get it… and so joyfully….
Bro, how did you manage to come across this, l mean, not many of us out there would even have a clue this existed, just sounds so gay, but hey, once you broke it down, shees, she's a difficult one, and pretty interesting use of chords, and as always, you never let us down with your choice of artist to learn from, keep up the good work Mr Pilgrim man :-)
Addendum to my previous comment. I found the album Room to Grow, by Barnaby Bye, and listened again to Laneya. Listen to the guitar work! Also, a lovely cover, acapella, of the Beatles “She’s Leaving Home.” Thom, I really enjoy your work here!
aside from being a wonderful guitarist, your vocals are exceptional as well. even though you're modest about it.. you're a brilliant musician and this is my favorite guitar and music content channel. your in-depth explanation and analysis makes the songs more meaningful for me. i'm so glad about discovering your channel Thom.
I really appreciate that you show us all these hidden gems that I would never have come across. Even if I heard this I probably wouldn't have appreciated the lovely chord progression. Good video!
Trivia that nobody else really cares about.......these twins were born almost exactly a month before me and in the Long Island town right next door to my own at the time! Jim C.
Yes, it's trivia but it also adds personality and detail to the song that we wouldn't know otherwise. I love details like that, it makes things more human and relatable.
Good one Thom! Never heard of the Alessi Brothers or that song. However, after watching this video, my guess is that they were classically trained musicians. I also liked how that song had a nice Jazzy aspect to it! 👍👍🎸🎸😉😉
Nailed it again Pilgrim…brilliant as always…..I remember this coming out in the early seventies I was 15 . Such a great time to be growing up . Spurred on by your post I’m learning this now …you’re right it’s a bitch to play but worth while . Thanks again.
"Quintessential one hit wonder"? 'Oozes 70s atmosphere" ? Color me confused. I'd never heard it (or of them) and it was absolutely not part of my drugged out 70s experience in any way. But you are certainly a part of my 20s experience, so I bow to you and your ability to deconstruct and reconstruct music. Even music I don't care for. But it was definitely a time of poor lip sync videos. You never cease to amaze. I enjoyed your playing vastly more than the song itself. Stay Well.
Swingin tune. Have to say I’ve never heard of these cats… can’t figure out why.😅 (jk) lol, as a jazzer of 40+ I have to say these are some great changes and especially if they got away with using them in a pop tune. Good on them.👍 Thanks Pilgrim!
Great as always, but that missing truss cap keeps slipping my OCD a roofie and I can’t remember your Taylor videos when they’re over. Love it, but can’t like it.

I like the way you are disecting one of my favorite songs. You are a true artist in the real sense of the word.

This is the coolest thing I've seen all day! I'm gettin' me guitar out!!

I liked the way you taught that Mr pilgrim, it caught my attention immediately. You’re a very intelligent man.

Some new chords for me to learn and a different kind of music. Thank you.
In the Dutch Top 40 for 6 weeks in 1977, peaking at number 6.
Love you man love whacky humour too
Merci monsieur😀
Never even considered this as a guitar tune. Now you got me all worked up, it'll take me months to get this remotely right..

For me it sounds more like a jazz song
Yep! you're goooooooood!!!!
Could you concider another acoustic jem, Grace Bay Blues by the Guess who off the Paramount album, well worth a look
They are twins with the same haircut lol

Hey dude, you can sing!👏👍
Hey Pilgrim....Have you ever done an episode about Jerry Reed?
Zo geweldig hoe enthousiast je altijd in de videos bent. Kun je ooit een keer the hook van bleus traveler Behandelen?
That song charted? I've never heard it. Love the jazz progression.

Breakdown the mateus asato playing.....
waiting for so long man 😬😬
I actually own this album. I was a teenager when this song came out.
Does removing the truss rod cover improve tone?
@Guitar Pilgrim...I try and try, but I can't make my fingers form the very first cord : B9...its extremely painful. What am I doing wrong?
Make sure your thumb is behind the neck, you might wanna try lighter strings if it's too hard
I grew up in the 70’s and do not remember these guys at all,, but cool lesson
Minute 4.41 😂😂
