I started out with a Trac II from Gillette. I have hated shaving for the past 40 years. Now I shave with a DE razor, I am absolutely loving it. I shave every second day and look forward to my shaves now. I get way less irritation, in any at all, and the artisan soap and brush method beats the cans of GOO.
Great video. I know some people think that wetshavers are exaggarating when comparing DEs to cartridges just to justify their hobby or that vendors who want to keep people buying their products also overreact but the truth is (as cliche as it might sound) there is no comparison. It really is the difference between night and day for me at least. I started wet shaving about a year ago and I couldn't be happier. I will mention the same statements (I hated shaving, I could not shave more frequently than once a week because I would get irritation, ingrown hairs and redness. It was too damn expensive and it just didn't do a good job) but there's no other way to put it. Yes, eventually it became a hobby and the economy reason is no longer valid but it's such an enjoyable experience that you really don't mind spending money adding stuff to your collection.
I did the multi blade razors for years. I didn't mind the Gillette sensor excel razors, but then they went away from that. I started Traditional DE shaving about 5 years ago and found it to be far more enjoyable than multi blade razors ,and green goo in a can.
Great video! I started out in middle school shaving once every other week using a Gillette twin blade disposable razor, barbasol can goop and Brut Aftersahve.
I first started shaving with an electric shaver. Then in 2014 I bought a Gillette fusion flexball razor. After That I went into wet shaving and I like it better. Plus the DE blades are a lot cheaper then the modern cartridge blades. And I get a better shave with a safety razor.
if you're comparing safety to cartridge, then you should've kept all the other variables the same (shave cream & brush). obviously the quality shave soap applied with a brush will provide better cushion, slickness & moisture than that crap from the can.
Nicely done Ross. I almost missed this shave, no notification!? No comparison IMO, Traditional may take a little longer but the results are far superior to cartridge shaving. And, if a person "wants" to save $$, toss the carts..🙄 Really good video and comments. You might want to use a DE a little more on The Daily Shave, you seem to have too much fun with the str8's😉and I sold all mine years ago😢 Enjoy bro!
I started my shaving journey with Gillette Mach then Gillette Fusion introduced and I switched to it about 7 years ago or so but I started watching Mantic 59 , GeoFatBoy and Nickshave so on there I started my wets having journey about 4 years ago and I never looked back to that Cartridge and Can shave shop and all but I keep Fusion just to trim my ear and nostrils hair to trim because it has trimmer I like that part but I use to shave about 40 shaves out of Fusion one blade but wasn't as close shave as De giving me right now but it was like two pass shave with Fusion do never have any ingrown hair issues with it but wets having definetly taking me to a diffrent level I Love to be a wet shaver traditional shave
If you check Johnny or Chris shaving (face/ face+head) both using DE vs Gillette , both using artisan soaps...they both agree this gives them a close, cut/irritation free shave. I use cartridge w 3 blades as rescue or days I do not want the big deal (quick) shave. I agree cartridges are very expensive....but w 3 blades less , cut well and do not irritate too much. Ohh and if you do not shake the can of bArbasol, it comes out better, better glide.....not airy... So good soap + 3 Blades + after shave balm its OK...might be more expensive....but a quick option. DE shaving is better for the people that enjoy the art/hobby aspect. We tend to spend more money....many razors, many expensive soaps, blades (are cheap), and after shave stuff is $$ if you want.
I always find it interesting when wet shavers moan about the cost of carts but ignore the cost of soaps and brushes. Imo, its 6 on one, half dozen in the other. Carts are more expensive than de blades but soaps and brushes are more expensive than canned goo. I personally find that a Fusion or Mach 3 shaves closer than any DE does. I love my vintage Gillette DEs but I'm not going to convince myself that its a better shave just to justify the cost of a hobby.
That's your opinion. I get a bbs shave with my Gillette adjustable and three passes - no irritation or ingrowns and my blades only cost $6 for a hundred pack. Bonus, no plastic cartridge to the landfill.
I think it depends on the individual how much is spent. I’m pretty set on blades & razors so I maybe buy 1 or 2 soaps a year. I was spending $17 on a pack of blades for my fusion.
Why switch in my case? I never had ingrown hair or irritation and I prefer not to go against the grain 🤷🏻♂️ I simply don't buy the claim that cutting the hair slightly UNDER the skin level will deliver a LESS smooth shave than the DE cut AT skin level. If cost is the only advantage left for me, then why switch? A hundred dollars more a year are worth the greater convenience, for me. It would be different if the DE shave were ACTUALLY smoother than the cartridge, but I simply don't buy that, sorry 🤷🏻♂️

I used barbasol for decades and if I had to I would go back to it.

Very well stated sir.

Barbasol is legit it’s not goop. Gel is goop. Barbasol is king dude

I only use dove men's+ now and lather it with a brush.

Yeah but usually when you shave with cartridges, you use canned shave soap too, so I think this is accurate
The smooth and sickness is due to the high quality shave soap you used compared to the cheap shaving cream should of used the shave soap for both side

That Awful Gillette Fusion Razor Is The One I Used To As Well 😂... Thanks For The Video Ross.
The difference between your two sides is also very obvious! The cartridge side has far more hair left, it's darker even in the eye!

There is the issue of ingrown hairs etc apart from just smoothness when it comes to razors with 3 or 5 blades

Cartridges are good for travel, irritation, ingrowns and landfills.
As much as I like the single blade, the comparison is worthless if you use the multiblade like a single one..

Good video quality but awful comparison.
Didnt wet the face...yikes.
He did tho
More shaving less of the chatter you talk to much
