I recently made the switch to a DE razor, and I was completely blown away by how well it worked. I opted for feather blades, which are extremely sharp, and to my delight, I had no razor burn, cuts, or any other irritations. When I used cartridge razors with five blades, I always struggled with dragging, and it took several passes to remove hair, leading to constant razor burn, bumps, cuts, and the like. Frankly, I hated shaving. However, since purchasing a DE razor, I am thrilled with the results and wish I had made the switch years ago.
@Chris M That’s great to hear buddy. DE routine definitely makes the shaving a much more enjoyable experience for me personally as well compared to Cartridge. My mantra is Cartridge for speed and DE for pleasure 👍🏼😎
I switched to a DE razor about 1 1/2 years ago. The quality of the shave is so much better than with a cartridge not to mention reduced waste and cost.
A thorough, objective review. Thanks! So many cartridge vs DE comparisons start with the reviewer saying they hate cartridges, and they are just a marketing gimmick. Like that's gonna be an objective review. My beard and skin must be suited to cartridges. I can get a very smooth shave with cartridges using any canned foam or gel and one ATG pass. Fast, easy, and very little irritation. And Fusion cartridges especially last 2 weeks of daily shaving. I have a Henson mild DE razor and getting an equivalent shave takes multiple passes, more time and care, and more irritation. I'll keep practicing with the Henson, but it ain't easy.
I tried the DE razors also.... Ill stick with the cartridges. To get the same result as my proglide, I have to use multiple passes and the DE irritates my skin. Its possibly my technique though.... Ill pay Gillette prices to get a comfortable shave.
@Greatlaker Thanks from the warm words. I can definitely connect to what you say. Even today, I pick up my cart when I need a quick good shave. Well the Henson mild, I have heard great things about people who have used it with a feather blade. It’s still not going to cut as close as other good DE razors.
@@georgem.621 LOL. Fusion cartridges are worth it because they shave better. Cartridges shave closer, faster, easier, with less irritation. DE razors are stone age in comparison.
Brother you are exactly correct on why so many so called DE Shaving Enthusiasts always says cartridge razors are bad because I have seen so many DE shavers I am not going to mention their names but whenever they do the comparison they always go over the same spot over and over again which doesn't allow the cartridge razor to perform. I mean the Mach 3 or the fusion are such great razors and to use that razor you must use it properly instead so shaving the same spot over and over again. People should see your comparison video instead of those so called DE shaving enthusiasts
@joyhhosh7239 cheers brother. I have seen some of this comparison reviews and honestly was annoyed when people straight away start off saying they don’t like cartridge razors.
great video as usual. One question I got the Proglide power as you are already aware of. but the button on the handle is not lighting up when it's on. I just can feel the vibration but there is no light on the button. is it normal or it has a default. Shouldn't the button go orange when it's turned on?
Long time Mo my man. Bdw I’m there already. I legit avoid using cartridge unless I’m travelling, carts for convenience. That’s it. Apart from that I’m now DE all the way.
I converted to double edge razors two years ago. Well worth the effort to learn how to use one. The amount of money you end up saving over cartridge razors is pretty crazy once you add it up.
@@allydz another reason to shy away from Gillette. There's a bazillion different brands of de razors, soaps, creams and aftershaves to choose from. Gillette has marketing behind them, other brands have better materials, ingredients and lower prices.
@@RobertNES816 couldn’t agree more. They are making huge profits with whatever moves and their marketing & sales teams can do so much better with pricing. Instead they go for gimmicks & unfortunately a lot of people fall for it 😂
Good comparison video, me personally, I would prefer DE razors as they suit my skin. Nevertheless, as per my observations, the mach 3 seems to be a suitable cartridge razor when compared to the fusion (due to less tugging and pulling). Cartridge razors are best suited for beards that are less than 5 days old.
@@MsAkash1995 Thank you ✌️😎. Razors are very subjective, Mach 3 stopped being effective for me over a few years now unfortunately. I used to love them when they worked and are cheaper with refills as well
I used to use Gillette 5 blade razors but i find them very harsh on the skin so im using a Mach 3 instead much better in my option as you don't need 5 blades to cut your hair!
@@jerryx2000 Still is my friend. I have only grown to love this razor a lot of some reason… maybe it’s how shiny it is apart from the nice smooth shave 😂
love the video. the gillette proglide and pro shield are really good for head shaving but with face shaving i have realized that at the end of the day every shaving blade will call for a different shaving routine due to the blades mechanics. reading your videos gave me that concept that when you shave the face with the grain on gillette pro glide it does well but with skin guard with the grain feels very different and so due to this i had to change the technques just to get the similar or same results. aside from that keep up the good work.
Thanks you very much for the video How's the new Gillette fusion proglide power handle? Which handle is better: the new or previous one? Where is the vibration stronger and better? Gillette released a new handle for Gillette fusion proglide power, in this video is the new Proglide power version handle... many thanks
@idaN it’s literally the exact same handle. I preferred the old handle cuz it has a little light that goes on where the power button is. They have literally used a Fusion Prosheild cartridge on this and changed the colour to orange 🤣🤣. It’s a genius combination and the best in my opinion in the cartridge world.
Great Video no doubt! Just wanted to ask and confirm from your side - have you tried Philips one blade and is there any comparison between the Gillette power razer and one blade since I have very sensitive skin and am prone to rashes. I prefer one blade and after watching your video just thought to buy Gillette as well. Plz suggest
@Saurabh Kaushik thanks bud. If the One blade works but doesn’t give a close shave (as designed), then I would give the Gillette power a go. Be gentle with your passes and use a good after shave moisturising cream. Let me know how u go brother.
A good last test would be to run a bar of aluin over your skin to do an irritation test. When you feel it sting it means you have overstressed the skin.. with cartridges i always had irritation and the aluin bar stung allot. Now switched to a DE razor and the aluin bar stings a lot less (close to zero) and i dont suffer from itritation. In my case there is a huge difference..
Thank you for the most objective and best comparison review I've seen on a Cartridge razor V's a DE razor. Most of the comparison reviews that I've seen start out with a strong bias against Cartridge razors, and many DE shaving enthusiasts can sadly come across as being of the mindset that one is not a 'real' man unless you can master the intricacies of DE shaving. Like many, I started out shaving in my late teens with a Gillette DE razor. I have sensitive skin and found that whilst I didn't get razor burn, bumps, or other skin irritations, little nicks, cuts, and grazes were almost always a part of the DE shaving experience, such that I grew a beard in my early twenties in protest. When cartridge razors were first introduced I tried them and found that little nicks, cuts, and grazes had disappeared when using them, but i could get some occasional razor burn. In the ensuing years I've tried every cartridge razor on the market from Gillette and Shick and would agree on the Gillette Proshield models (Proglide and Proshield) being the pick. My personal favourites are the Two blade "Sensitive" razor which I can use to remove a 4 - 5 day growth with no issues whatsover, or to get the Proshield "Chill" for a BBS shave with the minimum of time and hassle to achieve it - although again I can get some razor burn if not careful and ensuring a well soaped up face at all times. However if I was to pick a shaver to use every day, it would be my Braun Series 9 electric; no it's not as close a shave as a razor - cartridge or DE - but, it's still a very close shave - if not BBS, and there are no nicks, cuts, grazes, razor burn, and no skin exfoliation. However, I have also dipped a returning toe in the waters of what seems a bit of renaissance - perhaps fashion - return of DE and single edge wet razors. I have razors from Supply and Oneblade. The Supply is a very good razor, with an injector blade similar to early Shick razors. I have the v2 of the original, and the slightly later SE and Pro models. All of them shave very well, and very close I find. My favourite there is the Pro, simply because of the adjustability of the blade exposure. However, like most wet razors with a fixed head, maintaining the 'correct' or 'optimum' angle over curved areas of the face - chin/jaw line, and under the neck, requires a great deal of care if the old small nicks, cuts, and grazes are to be avoided. Which segues into the Oneblade models. I have the Core, Hybrid, and the Genesis. Perhaps it is just me - maybe a combination of my sensitive skin, and perhaps I'm sometimes a little impatient, in a hurry, or make a mistake in using too much pressure, or not getting the angle quite right over curved edges of my face - but, there is no question the Oneblade is the very best wet razor I've ever used. I would put most of it's advantages down to the pivoting head - a rarity in single blade razors, - as this feature adroitly compensates for any excess pressure, and maintains the optimum angle as you move the razor over the curved edges of your face. I do not get any small nicks, cuts, or grazes from the Oneblades, and further, no skin irritation or razor burn either. In short the Oneblade razors give me the skin care that I get from my Braun Series 9 electric razor, but with an much closer shave. in terms of closeness, only the Supply Pro can better it with the adjustable blade exposure, but overall the Oneblade is the best wet razor I've ever used. Negatives are the upfront cost - - the Genesis is a engineering work of art, but very expensive. The other is time - the essential ingredient to all wet razors in general. I regard the Genesis as being my go to razor when I want to spoil myself and luxuriate in the best shave I can get with the available tools that I have. But for that 'quick' BBS shave on the run, rushing to get out the door, I still use and keep the two Gillette razors mentioned and will continue to do so. Variety can be the spice of life, and it's also nice to have different shaving tools for different uses and lifestyle scenarios. Thank you again for your most enjoyable review - apologies for the long post, but just thought I'd share my experiences.
That's awesome. You have summed up your shaving experience so beautifully. I fortunately used the One blade Core as a step closer to DE Shaving, infact I made a review on it as well. My experience with the One blade Core was amazing as well. I almost forgot I had a sensitive neck area. If the blades were not custom, they would be my favorite and go to as well. Given your shaving story, this has to be the perfect razor for you. Thanks again for sharing your experience and hope to hear more from you.
Great info and observations. I enjoy my Series 9 Pro for what it is. I have come to find that the Mach 3 shaves practically the same as the Pro 9 when shaving WTG. One could give a very slight edge to the Mach but its not much. Of course, going ATG will give the Mach the win, but not if one has sensitive skin.
First, ignore photo -is my wife but I can't see where to change it ...... -as to your video, you did a good job of explaining your reasoning and your ultimate choice. It happens that I have been using the Gillette KC for about 10 years now with Astra blades as swell. If I really want a really good and pleasant shave , I will get my brush and Mitchell's Wool Fat Shaving soap ( not sponsored ) out. The combination is very smooth and leaves my skin feeling good. If I just want quick, I've been using Gillette Foamy but I'll now look locally for the Pure Cream.
Hello, I tried the Proglide Power with the double orange strips but it was really tough on my face. I'm gonna get the Fusion Proshield the same one That I used before it was the most convenient one. my question is the following: is the Gilette Fusion 5 Proshield Chill and Gilette Fusion Proshield Chill the same? and do they both fit on the Proglide power handle? thank you
@Remy Sarkis… That’s an interesting outcome. They are both identical my friend, only the colours being different IMO. The 2 razor carts u are asking about look like the same in your question, is that an error or am I not reading the difference
@@allydz 1- Gilette Fusion 5 Proshield Chill [it has the fusion 5 in its name] 2-Gilette Fusion Proshield Chill this is the only difference in the naming . it thought it was another one since one is fusion 5 proshield chill and the other prochield chill
@@remysarkis2998 Ahh thanks. They will surely fit the handle and it’s a rebrand. They are both the same razor. Correct me if I’m wrong but this is the blue strip, isn’t it
@@stevehayes8867 I agree. The regular ones feel more draggy on my skin. Specially in comparison to Power or DE. Although I will admit, I’m starting to love my DE razors as well now 😊
I got rid of cartridge a long time ago because I got tired of it ripping my hair out rather than cutting it, especially on the jaw line / chin area. Absolutely horrible feeling. I initially tried the Supply Co 2.0 stainless injector blade Safety Razor and it was literally a night an day difference. The supply was so much more forgiving for my face and so much more pleasurable to use. I've even used it quite a bit with just water, no shaving cream and it was just fine. It obviously works better with a shave soap but it is manageable if you only have 5 minutes to get the job done. Then I shaved for a long time with a straight razor as my daily driver and man, that was the pinnacle of awesome. Recently I picked up the DE safety razor to give it a try. It is very hard to say if I prefer the straight razor over the DE. I love both of them. I can get a closer shave with a lot less effort with the DE, but there is still something to be said about the straight razor. The straight razor shaves like nothing else. With a good 3 pass shave with either, I can go 2-3 days without shaving. I could never do that with a cartridge if I wanted to. I still felt stubble and visibly saw stubble after the shave with a cartridge razor. I think I am leaning more towards the DE razor as my favorite as of right now... probably only because I am a little rusty with the straight razor. I think I still prefer the straight razor overall, but the DE is soooo good.
Safety razors definitely make shaving more fun compared to carts, so I can only imagine what the straight razor feel would be like. I’m the guy who can’t be bothered with a straight razor just cuz it’s gonna be too time consuming for me at this stage in my life. Perhaps when I have more time in hand, I would definitely want to give them a proper crack.
Hello. I currently use a Gillette Fusion 5 for my body. What I like about it is that it cuts the hairs even below the skin. Can you recommend me a safety razor please which does the same? Cutting hair even below the skin. Is that Gillette King C. Safety razor the right candidate?
@xm01 Personally I don’t think either of them are great for the body. Personally I use electric trimmers for my body. For the full body, I use Phillips 3000 body trimmer and Gillette Fusion Proglide Styler (open and comb 1) for the privates. It’s the best tool to take care business downstairs with great efficiency and without any cuts. Hope that helps.
@@allydz I only do one actual pass, but I do about two to three strokes over than area. Using an Edwin Jagger DE89 head with the green Astra blades. So my three packs of a hundred blades each have lasted many years now ;-) It's about a 100-pack used every 2 years.
@@allydz I'm using an iKon handle with the head as it has a way better knurled grip, but I do love the head. Not too aggressive but also not too mild - it pairs well with the Astra blades (for my beard type anyway).
@@GadgeteerZA Sounds like u found you perfect tool. I like my Astra and Derby blades too. Thinking about it, I shave 3-4 times a week & 2 pass shaves, does work out to be 1 blade a week 😊
I buy a lot of DE safety razors. The cheapest razor in my collection is the Roman Empire Shaving Caesar DE safety razor for $9.99. The Caesar safety razor also comes with 20 premium DE blades. The Caesar shave FAR BETTER than the best cartridge razor made, the fusion. DE safety razors don't clog, shave closer, shave more comfortably and you can buy the razor and twenty blades for less than a fusion cartridge pack. If you are going from cartridge to DE safety razor I recommend the Henson AL13 mild or medium, or the Leaf Twig. I own both of these razors and they are very beginner friendly and you will not cut yourself. I also do head shaves with the Henson and Twig. I prefer the henson slightly more than the twig because it's a more traditional DE razor, but it's unique design prevents cuts, nicks, weepers.
There is one thing is still missing in the DE razor - the side razor, which you can use under nose areas… I guess in this terms no one can beat Gillette…
@inetmos You don't need a side razor with DE, It's already a singular blade (assuming you are referring to the precision trimmer). Also, Schick Hyrdo 5 Sense, look into them. You will be surprised how amazing they are and not many talk about it.
Personally for me, neither of them. However, this varies from one individual to another. Hair and skin type as well as technique play a part as well. If you have sensitive skin, the general rule of thumb is lesser the passes and blades, the lesser chances of irritation and ingrowns. Hope that helped.
I have watched this - thank you. Another great video well explained , and you yourself say there is no discernible difference. I use the Gillette fusion power now, it’s easy, quick, and gives a good shave. So besides the cost, and taking into account the more fiddly aspect to a safety razor, why change? Also I find the cartridge lasts me easily 2 weeks if not 3 shaving with it every day. ( you felt just 5-7 shaves). Also, how do you use the two sides of the safety razor? Or is it just random. And I do want to try for myself, but it’s a fair investment too once you get the brush, soap, handle blades….and if I do like it, I would rather have bought a great handle rather than an ok one for trying. So many dilemmas! Also - just saw the Gillette KC Safety razor is on offer at £10 - So maybe its worth trying out at that price?
Yes, just use either sides random. It won't make a difference. Well definitely try the safety razor. You will find them to be 2 completely different experiences 🙂. Couple years ago, I wouldn't bother looking at a safety razor, now I have a few of them 🤣. I am personally happy with both cartridge & safety razor and keep switching every now and then. Just take it easy, no rush and no pressure on your skin when you try safety razors. And one doesn't necessarily need to go 3 passes if you are daily shaver. I do 1 or 2 passes for my daily shaves depending on the growth ✌️
@@allydz Thanks again - and if I am just going to give it a try initially (probably just take that £10 offer from Gillette - given you actually like that handle) - 1. What brush should I get / what cream should I buy / do I need the mixing bowl / what blades are best - anything else I need? I will try it a bit, and then maybe upgrade to a more quality handle & brush. Or is that daft? Sorry to keep asking you all these questions - I hope you don't mind.
@@sgoody1 don’t mind it all mate. Here to hopefully help as much as I can. KC Safety Razor is a mild razor (great for beginners) and comes with 5 blades as well. I would go a basic synthetic brush or a quality boar brush if you wanting to go all out and invest long term. Brushes are great for exfoliation with cartridge shaves as well, so that’s not going waste at all. Soaps… there is a huge range and it’s all about the scent and ingredients. It’s one of the fun parts with traditional shaving and changing the soaps helps me mix things up a little more. Proraso is a safe brand to go with IMO but if you can visit a store and see what you like better; I think you will have a lot more fun with it. Blades as well.. there is a massive range to trail and you will eventually find something that’s works well for you. Astra blades are well known. Bowl is not at all a necessity, it’s great for people with sensitive skin as they build lather on the bowl and then apply on the face. You can face lather and it works just as well. There is a lot of variations and range with all these parts; so don’t get overwhelmed. Stick to basics and you will eventually find your way around what suits your liking & skin the best.
Nice video! I’ve been shaving DE since I was 17 (26 now) and I wouldn’t have it any other way. But I still love my vintage Sensor Excel and Barbasol for shaving in a pinch or for travel. Both methods have their place, but DE wins out for me.

I went back to a DE razor years ago from a Gillette Fusion simply because of the cost of cartridges. I still had a DE razor from years previous and 1 remaining blade, and was surprised just how good a shave it gave. You can buy a good DE razor and box of 10 blades for less than a pack of 8 Fusion cartridges. Just need blades? Can buy 50 DE blades for less than £10, or 48 Fusion cartridges for £108. No contest.
@johnsuffill6520 agreed mate. The trouble is when some people making DE shaving into a hobby of buying multiple soaps, brushes, razors, blades, pre-shaves and aftershave products. It ends up being more expensive. One really needs not more than 2-3 good razors for the sake of variety and stop.
@@allydz Apart from my original DE razor, I bought a butterfly razor from a company I will not name (not Gillette or Wilkinson Sword) but after a couple of months it locked up completely. Then I bought a Merkur Futur razor and that is now the only one I use.
@@johnsuffill6520 Fully agree there John. Lesser the moving parts, the better they are. My favourite is the T2 and it’s served me well for the last 2 years now. It does make me nervous though cuz not only is it a butterfly, it’s also an adjustable 🤣
Been shaving with DE razors for 20 years. Mainly did it because cartridges are way too expensive. I get better shaves with DE razors and it only cost $5/year to buy blades. Saves a fortune.
An adjustable razor, like the Parker Variant, might be a better long-term investment for new wet-shavers. If one has particularly thick or coarse beard growth, a single edge safety razor using 'Artist Club' blades (which are thicker) by Feather, Kai and Schick might be better still.
@@borbetomagus I did think about using an adjustable but I wanted to keep it as basic for those that have never used DE. But absolutely agree, I have heard great things about the Parker Variant from some friends in the community.
It’s just another strip like the Fusion ProSheild. The cartridge is called Fusion Proglide Power if you are looking for it specifically. In terms of design protection and shave quality, it is very identical to a Gillette prosheild (yellow cartridge). So avoid paying the extra $$ if the prosheild is cheaper.
I'm an engineer I must say they need to design a safety razor with curved edges and a spring torque and a middle piece that will allow it to turn 360 degrees with ease, of as right now the safety razor is good foe up and down motions but side to side and angles can be dangerous and cardage causes lots of friction and razor burns.... over I would go with a good quality safety razor and shave up and down be more aware when using it .
i will not shave with be go as the winner he picked o ui got very rough hairs on face and everything cheap will i use good gel by edge or gillette or sometime gilleette cartridge or razors of of 5 or 6 at a time 0f plastic handers brands! i am scare to try the the double edge razors, as i used good gel by edge or gillette the razors i used are the best for me, they do cost more than the double edge razors but in the end i don't end up cuts on faces sometimes very fews, but most the times no cuts at all!
If you want to make sure you don’t cut yourself with a DE buy a good adjustable razor like a Merkur Progress. It would be pretty hard to cut yourself on a low setting.
Thanks Amir. I have some friends of the channel that are fond of either 1 style. I thought it was the right thing to clarify and not leave any room for a sensitive emotion. I'm just mindful as what means nothing to me can mean a lot to someone else. Cheers 🙂✌️

WRONG..Cartridge razors last over a month...DE razors last about 3 shaves.but i do love both. But , Best head shaves are the cartridge razors. .. for sure !
A month…. Mate u have something working for u that you need to share with the rest of us cart shavers. If I did head shaves, 100% cart would be the way to go.
Using safety razor vs cartridge I went to safety razor because Gillette has got the best blade on the market but are far far far to expensive. The safety razor is cheap dangerous and gets a great shave it has zero forgiveness though. I used to shave my head with lotion and it worked great tried it with safety razor. Looked like my head got in a knife fight with a midget. Angles for head shavers are critical.
Yeah, not worth it to me. I love my Series 9 Pro, its not perfect, but saves me lots of time. I can always use my Defender when I truly just "need" that baby bottom feeling. I can shave 4 days growth head and face in 4-5 minutes. 5 min vs 10 min 3 days a week is about an hour a month x12= 12 hours.
Sounds like a technique issue, bad DE razor, or bad blades. I have been shaving my head with a double edge razor for 20 years and rarely cut myself…it’s been years since I last cut myself and it was because I was using blades that didn’t work well in my razor. Try an adjustable razor like a Merkur Progress, Gillette Fatboy, or a Gillette Slim with Astra blades. Those are my three main razors and my main blades. You can dial down the setting if you feel too much blade. I think it would be very hard to cut yourself on low settings with any of the razors I mentioned.
@@paulcarlin5181how much do you spend on cartridges per year? I spend $5/year on DE blades. I would rather spend a couple extra minutes to shave than hundreds of dollars a year on cartridges.
@AmoonaRa It’s a mild razor, the King C blades default blades aren’t aggressive enough. So would suggest pairing it with a more aggressive blade like feather for a closer shave. If you have sensitive skin, the original set should work well too avoid any skin irritation.
Why switch in my case? I never had ingrown hair or irritation and I prefer not to go against the grain 🤷🏻♂️ I simply don't buy the claim that cutting the hair slightly UNDER the skin level will deliver a LESS smooth shave than the DE cut AT skin level. If cost is the only advantage left for me, then why switch? A hundred dollars more a year are worth the greater convenience, for me. It would be different if the DE shave were ACTUALLY smoother than the cartridge, but I simply don't buy that, sorry 🤷🏻♂️
Great to hear mate. I’m the same as you. Carts never bothered my skin and I don’t think DE shave better than carts, specially quality razors like Schick & Gillette. It’s literally better for people with sensitive skin imo. End of the day, one’s gear comes down to personal preferences.
@@allydz thank you for an honest opinion without prejudice. In fact, in all honesty, I would switch, if a safety razor could deliver a smoother shave. My goal is the smoothest possible shave, not necessarily convenience. I just can't see how shaving at skin level, can feel smoother than picking up the hair with that first blade 🤷🏻♂️
@@tommasosantojanni Oh the DE is definitely smoother when u getting rid of a weeks worth or more, you won’t feel any tugging like the carts, however for regular shavers; they are both great ways to shave. Since I enjoy both, I can say this: For me, Cart when in a hurry, DE when I want to pamper myself. both methods or razors work extremely well for me 😃👍🏼
@@allydz thanks for helping me understand. By smoother I mean the feel AFTER you shave, not WHILE you shave. If a safety razor could deliver a smoother skin, at the end of the shave, then I'll switch. Very happily too! I don't have any prejudice. My goal is the smoothest possible result for others to touch, because my 8 yrs old daughter won't kiss my checks, because I'm scratchy. Kindly, help me understand (I'm not trolling, this is an honest question): how can safety razor deliver a smoother skin to touch than a cartridge? The first blade of the cartridge pulls up the hair, and the second blade cuts it BELOW the skin level. The DE cuts only AT skin level. For reference, I shave every morning, I never have any irritation, I never had any ingrown hairs, I do NOT shave against the grain (to avoid exposing the root of the hair, in the long run) and the cartridge does not scratch or pull (I change it ever week). In other words, I'm content with all variables. I would very happily switch to improve the feel of my skin for others (smoother to the touch).
@@tommasosantojanni This is purely based of my experience and I will use logic without bias. While cartridge works well, Safety razors leave the skin feeling super smooth. Many reasons here: 1. The pre-shave and soaps are easy superior than just using standard foams. They definitely help. 2. Shaving against the grain with a safety razor doesn't cause ingrowns or irritation; instead you have a closer shave as it's still shaving skin level. 3. Using a shaving brush also exfoliates the skin so well. I never believed this stuff works, but God knows I was wrong. I also tried using pre-shave, soap, etc but switched to cartridges instead of a DE. Cartridge razors clogged cuz of the fat level in the soaps, so foams + cartridge & soap + safety razors are combos to use. Happy to field more questions but hope this helps. Also I'm not big on switching personally, instead I alternate between both shaving systems.

unless you take the time to soften your beard hair, 5 blades feels like a cheese grater on your skin. 1 blade is all you need and I don't have to take a shower before every shave for it to be comfortable. And you can use a fresh blade every time without breaking the bank

I switched to a DE razor about 1 1/2 years ago. The quality of the shave is so much better than with a cartridge not to mention reduced waste and cost.
Love DE
@Matt Jones… I have developed a love hate relationship with DE. I enjoy shaving with them more than carts but carts are just quicker.
Good luck to your pocket with the cartridges then 😂
@@georgem.621 LOL.
Not this new version, it did on the older version. So yea, totally normal 😎👍🏼
After switching to double edge u can’t go back to cartridge it doesn’t feel the same 😆 I prefer the double edge
Long time Mo my man. Bdw I’m there already. I legit avoid using cartridge unless I’m travelling, carts for convenience. That’s it. Apart from that I’m now DE all the way.
Totally disagree. I went back and it's like going from a DE (Volkswagen) to a Ferrari (cartridge).
I converted to double edge razors two years ago. Well worth the effort to learn how to use one. The amount of money you end up saving over cartridge razors is pretty crazy once you add it up.
That’s good to know Robert 🙂👍🏼. They have further hiked the prices of Gillette cartridges in Australia (like everything else)
@@allydz what's causing the prices to rise? Inflation, import taxes or duties?
@@RobertNES816 I reckon it’s Gillette brother. No other brand cart refills or razors have gone up except for Gillette.
Instead they go for gimmicks & unfortunately a lot of people fall for it 😂
One video with complete pack of knowledge and the honest review. Thank you so much! ❤️
Appreciate it brother 😊✌🏼
Good choice 👍🏼
@@rajivsingh5120 Glad to hear… thanks for the love my friend ✌️😎
Thanks you very much for the video
How's the new Gillette fusion proglide power handle?
@Patrick So true. I have done this in practice though and literally like you said… DE side stung lesser 👍🏼👍🏼
Great comparison ,excellent shave can’t beat De razors performance
Thanks Nate 😊🙏
Double edge razor is best . I am using since 2008.
That’s awesome
@@paulcarlin5181 I have only heard great things about the series 9 from both Braun and Phillips. I’m hoping I get my hands on 1 some day too
First, ignore photo -is my wife but I can't see where to change it ......

@@stevehayes8867 I agree. The regular ones feel more draggy on my skin. Specially in comparison to Power or DE. Although I will admit, I’m starting to love my DE razors as well now 😊
@@allydz I did consider trying a DE. But the power just works very well
Do you like any of the Gillette gels
@xm01
Personally I don’t think either of them are great for the body. Personally I use electric trimmers for my body. For the full body, I use Phillips 3000 body trimmer and Gillette Fusion Proglide Styler (open and comb 1) for the privates. It’s the best tool to take care business downstairs with great efficiency and without any cuts. Hope that helps.
Merkur Progress with Astra blades.
I use the Astra DE blades for 7 days a blade - my beard is fairly thick hair.
@@GadgeteerZA That’s awesome, I don’t get more than 3 shaves normally. How many passes do you run?
@@allydz I only do one actual pass, but I do about two to three strokes over than area. Using an Edwin Jagger DE89 head with the green Astra blades. So my three packs of a hundred blades each have lasted many years now ;-) It's about a 100-pack used every 2 years.

Hey Ally, Very nice video. You speak really well. Enjoy watching all the reviews. Let more videos come our way. Thank you.
Thank you very much, I'm happy that you are enjoying the reviews 😀
@Brian H, perfectly said. I have the twig too and would love to own a Henson. Heard great things about it.
Good work buddy, I appreciate the video ❤
@madscilent Thanks mate, a sub would be much appreciated 😎✌🏼
which one gives you less irritation and ingrowns?
Personally for me, neither of them. However, this varies from one individual to another. Hair and skin type as well as technique play a part as well. If you have sensitive skin, the general rule of thumb is lesser the passes and blades, the lesser chances of irritation and ingrowns. Hope that helped.
Nice comparative review. Liked it.
Approach ji, Thank you 😊 🙏
I have watched this - thank you.

I still live the proshield power razor. It’s quick and easy. And very close
It is my favourite Cartridge razor Steve. I haven't come across any other cartridge that's better than this 1.
Proraso pre shave with their soap works well with both carts and DE without clogging.
@Ron Vichar True that, Proraso is also one of my Favs. Not sure if u have seen my review of the T2 but I have used the Sandalwood in there.
What is that orange 1?
Are you referring to the strip on the Cartridge?
@@allydz yes
It’s just another strip like the Fusion ProSheild. The cartridge is called Fusion Proglide Power if you are looking for it specifically. In terms of design protection and shave quality, it is very identical to a Gillette prosheild (yellow cartridge). So avoid paying the extra $$ if the prosheild is cheaper.
Thanks
I'm an engineer I must say they need to design a safety razor with curved edges and a spring torque and a middle piece that will allow it to turn 360 degrees with ease, of as right now the safety razor is good foe up and down motions but side to side and angles can be dangerous and cardage causes lots of friction and razor burns.... over I would go with a good quality safety razor and shave up and down be more aware when using it .

A month…. Mate u have something working for u that you need to share with the rest of us cart shavers. If I did head shaves, 100% cart would be the way to go.
I started shaving with a safety razor in 2021.
Hope you having fun with it mate ✌🏼💈
What do you think about the shavelogic s5
They don’t have it in Australian markets yet, so I haven’t tried it. They look great though 👍🏼
You dont know if is for head shaving too
@@julioserrano3672 Honestly I don’t know but have you considered electric razors for head shaving?
I already got 3 of them.. the babyliss fx3 shaver. The pitbull skull shaver and the slim li proline.
@priestof1 I can imagine how careful one has to be with DE had shaves. Have you looked into Leaf razors? The best of both worlds.
I hope King C Gillette will give me close shave, i have Wilkinson 3 blade but i'm not satisfied with it
@AmoonaRa It’s a mild razor, the King C blades default blades aren’t aggressive enough. So would suggest pairing it with a more aggressive blade like feather for a closer shave. If you have sensitive skin, the original set should work well too avoid any skin irritation.
Why switch in my case?
I never had ingrown hair or irritation and I prefer not to go against the grain 🤷🏻♂️
I simply don't buy the claim that cutting the hair slightly UNDER the skin level will deliver a LESS smooth shave than the DE cut AT skin level.
Kindly, help me understand (I'm not trolling, this is an honest question):
how can safety razor deliver a smoother skin to touch than a cartridge?
Many reasons here:
Also I'm not big on switching personally, instead I alternate between both shaving systems.
for your money it is better the King C Gillette safety razor
It’s 100% my money and I paid for these products 😎👍🏼. Like I said, they were too close. Is the King C a great safety Razor, absolutely!!
Same razor
But still different??🤣
Clogging.is the main.problem.with.low.cost cartridge.razors.
Clogging definitely is something I have experienced in poor quality razors, hence i always go for good quality products.
God forbid we offend anyone.
Yes, what means not much to one can mean a lot to someone else, honestly I want my viewers to have fun while they watch the videos cuz I have fun making them 😀
Harry's is the best IMHO. So close I only have to shave twice a a week. One cartridge lasts me 1 month. I shave my head and face
@jason irving Brother I have only heard great things about Harry’s. They have been saying coming soon to Australia forever now. I hope they make it hear soon and I can give them a go too.
time to return my catrigde razor
I think they are both very cool mate… go with whatever works well for ya 😊👍🏼
It is enough to look at the handle to see which one is a toy
Haha… I can tell you love your DE razors mate. Not that kinda review unfortunately, they both have their pros and cons. I tired exploring it as best as I could
unless you take the time to soften your beard hair, 5 blades feels like a cheese grater on your skin. 1 blade is all you need and I don't have to take a shower before every shave for it to be comfortable. And you can use a fresh blade every time without breaking the bank
@Zack Cannot challenge that, absolutely spot on, especially when the growth is 3 days plus.
This is the best blade from Gillette very costly in India nearly ₹2500 for 8 blades the orange lubrication strip one Gillette proglide.
Sounds right, it’s expensive everywhere but really awesome cartridge system
you should start reviewing different shaving creams foams gels etc. think better people stop using canned crap the better
@hassy g Some of the canned stuff has positively surprised me. But yea, majority of them just dry up your skin
@@allydz yes but for environmental reasons too canned stuff not great and is kinda unnecessary
@@Lemingtona-x5g You made a fantastic point 👍🏼👍🏼
