Carts are good razors the problem is the expense and honestly I just like the way a good DE feels on my face and it’s cutting of the hair to me is a bit smoother

Shaun’s Shave Den yes I found a single DE blade was way smoother and handled the 2 days growth with ease compared to the cart. It could be some carts are better than others this one didn’t work for me- it felt tuggy

I've enjoyed using the Gillette fusion proglide but it does pull more than I like so I've found that three blade cartridge razors work the best for me.

Cartridge razors tend to tug and clog when you skip a day or two shaving. They pull much less when you shave close every day.

Playing Devil's Advocate here...A cartridge using lathered shave soap can be very close and comfortable. I strop my cartridge blades after a shave and it elongates the life of it. (when I sue them). Harry's, Defender, and Dollar Shave club refills do not cost as much as the Gillette ones. I can get 4 refills for $8.

She Shaves with Jill thank you for the information. I’ll have to try it out with a good soap. I recall my cartridge shaves with the sensor or the Mach 3 to be a bit better than this one but it’s been a while

I use cartridge razors for my head shave it just does a bit smooth job and it’s easier to use around the contours of my head ... actually have that same cartridge razor.... it does get a bit tuggy if I use it on a lot of growth and I prefer to use my DE or straight razor don’t get me wrong!! But if you use that cart razor with a good artisan soap it goes a lot better trust me ... the stuff in a can is not slick at all and it tends to dry my face out so give it a shot with an actual good soap!! Lol good shave bud

My opinion only! To use modern shaving products is to get the job done with little to no effort and get on with your day. To change gears to wet shaving is to look at what may be deemed a daily “task” and turn it into a relaxing hobby. I agree, price is out the window as we all love to add to what we already have. It keeps the artisans we love in business and the chatter of developing products fresh. I’m fairly new to wet shaving and still have some of the muscle memory for carts that Matt has lost in his long years of straight shaving. With cartridges speed increases comfort. Slow dragging strokes can pull and tug. Also, in my experience the hotter/wetter the skin the better. I used to shave in the shower to kill two birds with one stone. Great vid Matt. Especially on one of the more controversial opinionated topics in our hobby. Now stop farting around with the carts and get back to what we all love to watch you do. Straight razor shaving. Lol 👍

Once I took the cart razor a part and tried to actually use the blade to cut a piece of cloth. you will notice immediately that the DE razor is probably 10 times sharper than cartridge razor. you don't need an extensive test here. Now to me that just mean, the DE razor is smoother on your face and less irritation and no tugging. Now since the Cartridge is 3 to 5 blades together it feels smooth because it goes through the hair 3 times where the tugging gets less giving you the impression of smoothness. I always use the DE razor once since its so cheap compared to making a budget for the Cartridge. Also, why do we get cuts from DE razors, simply put the gap between the blade and edge and the sharpness. I could be talking our of my ... but this is my 2 cents and little bloody face once in a while its good to see... lol

I started with a cartridge razor, cheap synthetic brush and shaving cream, but switched to a DE razor because I didn't want to pay 5€ for one blade.
I like to spend my money on high quality, handmade products. Yes, most of us have too many soaps, brushes and razors, but it's a hobby now and not just shaving.

  • @airdbreck

With cartridges you gotta be fast and furious to stop it tugging
You gotta remember when shaving with cartridges it’s a chore you have probably forgot how fast you use to shave
Opposite style from DE lots of pressure and quick movement with razor

Wet shaving with DE’s for over 20 years. With proper wet shaving prep a quality (Gillette) cart like the Fusion is easily it’s equal. I own most of the high end DE’s available today but would never get on the anti cart bandwagon. It’s just not true.

Matt Daily Shaver Hi Matt, my all time favorite razor (20 yrs wet shaving) is the Karve SB C and D plates. I own and really enjoy the Raw-10, Charcoal L2, 17-4, Wolfman WR2 and others but the design and shave of the Karve wins out. Carts...Gillette Fusion bought on eBay are not expensive if bought in bulk compared to my above razors. With proper wet shaving prep they give me a superior BBS than any of the 100 or so DE’s I’ve used over the years. The key for me is to not use the Fusion carts everyday. They are great on a Monday morning with heavy growth combined with a GroomingDept or Talbot soap. I think guys hate Gillette for no reason yet some of them use Nacets and other Gillette blades. Their not being honest imo.

@@stuartcollins9988 they don't hate gillette , they hate how much their cartridges cost. Also gillette recently made a very controversial advert so many people have stopped using them.

Stuart Collins thanks again for your input. I have some of those DE razors you mentioned , (or tried them).i also really like the karve cb on plate D. I didn’t want to give the impression I have anything against Gillette per se. I also really enjoy many vintage Gillette shavers ( I like the fat boy, aristocrat, and new standard) and most of the Gillette branded DE blades work well for me. I wanted to recreate my own personal experience with carts , pre eBay, where I pick one out of the two or three options at my local drugstore, and some gel or foam, how I assume many people still shop for their shaving gear. I really was shocked at the expense: $21.99 for 4 carts, and these were not even the most expensive. I personally think my DE ( not to mention straights) shaves are worlds better than I ever got from a cart, including the shave from this video. But admittedly I used to use the track 2 or Mach 3. Also if I used a better soap and learned to adjust my technique, it might go better for me. I just don’t think I will likely ever go back to carts. But if it works well for you and others it’s not my place to judge.😊 My dad enjoys a cart that vibrates, and he swears by it.

Cartridge razors give good shaves. The cheaper ones get dull after 2 or 3 shaves. But the mach3 and premium ones give more than 7 shaves if you shave with them everyday. The total no varies from person to person.
I personally like DE blades more because you can clean the blade after the shave. In cartridges the blades clog up easily. Because of that it develops some corrosion.

Not quite the proper mindset for a fair unbiased comparison. Seems like from the very beginning the whole thing was meant to validate your already formed belief and not to put it to a real test. The outcome is easy to predict after watching the first 30 seconds of the video. So there is no use in watching the rest.

And while I did go in with low expectations, I was genuinely surprised that the cartridge was not smoother.
