I think it's actually "period correct" to have a 253 HT. The HK only had the American 307 as the big option, but (if memory serves) the 253 was introduced DURING the production run of the HT. There was a special promotion to celebrate the release of the 253. The adverts called it the *White Hot Holden limited edition.* Every 253 in the first batch of V8 HT's was a white Kingswood with 3-on-the-tree and a bargain price not much more than the 186. I guess they wanted to get a lot of the brand new Australian V8 on the road as soon as possible and in the hands of buyers who wouldn't normally buy a big engine. Holden had just spent millions of dollars developing an Australian engine and they wanted to 'kick start' the sales. To begin with there was only the 253. The 308 was released in the HG the following year - I know it went into the 2nd-best HG Monaro GTS, but I'm not sure if the 253 was still the biggest engine in the HG Kingy/Prem sedans and wagons. It would be great I think to get 253 V8 badges for the front wings. A bit odd to have the 186 badges on it.
Looks good , came up very tidy. Sounds good for a 253 , not like a thong clapper lol .... Give that motor a chance it'll free up with fresh oil , few heat cycles etc
Does get better every drive, few other issues that we will work through but driving for now anyway. Had a big shutter yesterday when I engaged drive, will check that when I get time to see what is happening? Maybe the old didn't do up converter with the torque wrench trick?
Jeez aussies love living in the past, holdens were never good cars ! some of the most underpowered v8's ever made , Boat anchors ! chewed through wheel bearings, rear mufflers, water pumps , etc. Some of the most mediocre cars GM ever made. worst car I ever owned was a VC commode !
Good luck 👍
Well done Mal!!! What a great little burble!!
Great job Mal
@@haveacrack thanks for the support
It's great to see the HT on the road 🙌 luv the 253 Holden motor. My HG has a 253 👍👍
Thanks Steve, it is old but one day will pull it back out for a freshen up, for now I hope valve seals stop that smoke we get every few days.
Love the Premier Mal ❤ nice to see it running 🏃♂️ 😊🇦🇺🏔🦘🪃👌🍻

I think you may understand how untrue that is but let's keep it a secret between us, I am hopeless. 😀😀😀
Good stuff mate well done 👍🏻
Thanks Leigh. It was a challenge for y level of skill and knowledge but 99% there now.
@ yeah it would be but what a sweet accomplishment when it’s done
When you upgrade to a big block 308, you’ll throw it in, over a weekend, 😉
@downundercars3921 yep now we have done this once, next one will be easy and likely as well. 😀
Well looked fantastic when I witnessed this beautiful aussie masterpiece. Wasn't blowing smoke that day. Beautiful car Mal looks spot on.
@@LRogan520 thanks mate.
Awesome Mal, love the HT. You inspire us all mate!
@matttodd3778 thanks Matt. Its a beautiful car that will get more love and get better over time.
put a couple of bottles of STP stop smoke in it she\ll be good lol
Will do. The old lifter free helped the VL. So will give that a crack.
Good stuff mate! What compressor did you use for the paintwork? I'm about to do similar to my HT Kinger
@_jbp it's just a double motor Stanley 50lt from Supercheap. All paint and gun from Wazza at Shed13 in Brisbane.
