      Only him, since his ego is his driving force and his only true friend that's why he's always projecting his insecurities because he doesn't have anyone to guide him just him.

    Anna's talking like Trump's bluntness is some kind of insight that he has. All of the stuff he says is pure jealousy. He doesn't say those things because he's disgusted by Colin Powell's crimes. He says that stuff because he knows he'll never be put on a pedestal like that by mainstream society. He's committed some horrible crimes himself, so he has no moral basis on which to criticize people like Powell.

      @georgedunn320 2 роки тому +1

      Agreed. There's a reason for the rule about speaking well of the dead; eulogizing is usually puffery, but without the gesture of it, we have no relief from the mundane course of carping, cavilling bitching, all pretty pointless because the target is past changing his ways.
      Yes, History should be served, and when the grave grass has been mowed a few times, we can resume the criticism.
      Some people DO like Trump's "plain speaking," but mainly because they love to hear evil things about people who aren't like them. There are others, a majority, who think it shows the speaker's ill-breeding.

    Whilst I agree Powell must be remembered for the things he did I do not think public attacks are appropriate immediately after his death. If we cannot find the kindness to hold our opinions for a few days out of respect to the people he shared love with we have little ground to criticise at all. I fight hard for history, good and bad, to be remembered and taught. I also fight hard for civil discourse. These are unpopular stances these days and we are poorer for it. Please, wait just a few days.

      Totally agree, politics is made up of opposing views, those in government make mistakes and get things wrong and Colin Powell like a lot of those involved at the time may regret the part they played in Iraq and the history books will document the consequence of his involvement. Powell though was a better person than Trump full stop, he died, people should acknowledge that commentary on his past actions can wait a week or two.

    Colin Powell has throughout his life and military and political careers… carried out himself with DISTINCTION… both in the George H W Bush and George W Bush administrations …he was caught in a TOXIC environment under the junior Bush’s administration… that led him to compromise his ethical standing… it was a HOBSON’S CHOICE dilemma… and as loyalty demands… he followed his orders in the military tradition… “do or die”… because he was brought up in the military…despite this tarnish to his reputation… he is a decorated hero and commands deep respect by all people, at home and abroad… history will always remember him…it is therefore, unfortunate that Trump could be so thoughtless and tactless to pick this sad moment to compare himself to Colin Powell…by SHOOTING FROM THE HIP with his smart comments… as usual no consideration to the family and friends of this GREAT AND HUMBLE MAN… it is certain that Trump will be remembered for his NOTORIETY in the footnote of history… without doubt!

      Me, too. TYT gets it wrong here. At the time, even the UN believed Saddam had WMDs. So that part was a MISTAKE, not a lie.
      Also, Powell was against going in, especially without a good exit strategy.
      He did think taking it to the UN was better in the hopes they could provide a _diplomatic_ solution. But I don’t think he was expecting the script Cheney’s office produced.
      The big lie was that Saddam Hussein was somehow connected to Osama bin Ladin. That is what Cheney and his goons were trying to sell. Paul knew there was a concern that there because the speech was sent back to the CIA twice to double check. Twice they removed the language that made the tie between the two leaders.
      So it was a surprise to Powell and to the CIA that Cheney went with his version instead of the version that they had authorized.
      Frontline interviewed all many involved including Powell who doesn’t discuss that part a lot. But the CIA analyst gives the full story.

    I'd like some data backing up what you've said about Powell. Powell's doctrine included war as only a last resort. That's not being a war monger. I also though that Powell, in his speech to the United Nations about WMD in Iraq, was relying on data provided to him that was represented to him as being reliable. That data proved to be completely bogus and there were at least two notable persons, Mohamed ElBaradei, then Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Scott Ritter, a UN weapons inspector, who said as much. Mr. Ritter was much more blunt than Mr. ElBaradei but Mr. Ritter didn't hold such an esteemed position. Mr. Powell mistakenly trusted the data but I don't think it's accurate to say he "knowingly" lied about it Finally, didn't Cheney admit that it was he who authorized "enhanced interrogation" a.k.a. torture? Powell wasn't perfect. No one is. I think you're mischaracterizing at least his term as secretary of state. Can you provide documentation to back up these claims?

    I am no Republican. I vehemently disagree with a truly astounding number of things that they stand for. But, I’m not a Democrat either. This sort of thing is why I am an independent and shall always be independent. It is distasteful to piss on a man’s grave when his body isn’t Even in the ground yet. It’s just not done. Colin Powell was no saint. But, it cannot be denied that he did inspire many people to strive for success. He was not perfect. Nobody is. To refrain from criticizing him and from listing all his mistakes when he died is not holding him up on a pedestal. It’s just simply reverance for the dead. Go after him while he’s alive like that Iraq veteran confronted George W bush. Excoriate him while he has the ability and the means to defend himself or answer for his misdeeds. Lay bare all his sins for all to see if you must. But, once a man dies, some respect ought to be afforded the fact that human life has ended. To do otherwise is tantamount to going up to a sick person in a hospital bed and physically assaulting them or torturing an invalid. The tendency of so many people on the left to do this sort of thing turns a lot of people off and sends them into the arms of those who do not vote in their best interest and the country as a whole suffers for it. Peoples morals and values matter. They just do. You may not agree with them, you may not share them, but, it does not mean that they are not valid and that they are not there.
