Thank you! I just bought a lovely old second hand T5 and on the way home my knob fell off!!!! (pardon the language!) New one on order with gaiter now I know how to change it!
Always use for example a piece of fabric if you have to pry. At this case not so much prying but gently press the ring gently and the "pry". My knob from Temu was not a direct fit like OEM; the knob was VERY tight fit to the shaft and the spring was too short. It did not even work (revert) with the original spring, had to put both. Mine is T5.1 -14 6speed. Old was original, there was printed date inside.
Whilst I guess you could reuse the original gaitor ring you would then need to attach this to the new gaitor leather (glue, staple, etc). My concern would be getting a snug enough fit to be able to have the space to reattach the gaitor ring - personally, I would get the full kit to save time and get a nice finish. If you reuse the gaitor ring though let me know how you get on - I'd be interested to hear and can update my comments in line with your advice!
Nice video, thanks. Just swapped mine out today after watching this.

Hi Derek, you're very welcome! Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment :-)
Anyone who does plese please don`t use a screwdriver...use a plastic pry tool if you cherish your bus.
