Really helpful video. This the exact same thing that’s happened to my van, but my mechanic friend just insists on me buying a new gearbox, well, new to the van, rather than having a look at it. This could save me hundreds. Thanks for sharing
Rough as a badger. Glad someone else readily uses that expression! The replacement part look like it had just come out of the sand cast! Good job Dave.
I have this problem at the moment, if I hadn't already diagnosed the problem I would immediately look at this, however it's the cables causing the issue for me
Thanks so much for the video. I'm having the exact same issue from what I can tell. However, when removing the selector arm from the spline, did it come right off? On mine after removing the nut it will wobble around but doesn't seem to want to come off. Is there a knack to it or could mine just be a bugger?
Hi Dave bit of advice please . I’ve just changed all of the suspension arms on my Audi a6 c6 I didn’t change the track rod ends even though they came in the kit. I used meyle HD components and fitted them using your b7 Video as a reference. All knocks bangs ect. Have gone but the steering has gone a bit stiffer and won’t easily return to centre. Have you ever come across this issue. Thanks in advance.
I won't fit customers parts. It's like bringing a stake to a restaurant and asking the chef to cook it for you. We seem to be always eating labour time for customers. Something wrong with our system.
Hi Dave , wonder if you can give me some advice or at least point me in the right direction . i have a 2005 VW Transporter T5 2.5TDI automatic T30 ,it has a problem when it hits 4 gear it goes up 5th then 6th but doesn't go any faster than 50mph then drops to 5th then 4th doesn't gain any speed ,any ideas or advice ?
Penny wise pound foolish, how many times have electricians, mechanics and even plumbers been caught out with after market parts. Was this gearbox an example of great German engineering.
I refuse to fit customer supplied parts or aftermarket junk I'd rather not deal with Customers who want to half ass repairs these days, Any loss of Business is more than made up by a lack of hassle.

Same old. Cheap parts addition labour 🤷♂️ Wish I could say I haven’t been guilty of that myself. Good work Dave.
yep Ian, you know it. We've been there and probably will be again
Great video pal, well explained good camera skills and great terminology too "that thing" class 👏🏾

My 2007 T5 has just given up the ghost out of the blue and this video seems to be the answer. Thank you.

Thanks for the vid mate! Very helpful, in diagnosing and fixing. I think the 1.9/5speed has much easier access.

I have to do this job at the weekend, how do you line the selector up on the correct part of the shaft? Is there dots to match up?

❤🎉your is so excellent, I got helped ❤😊
Great job, always a gamble with eBay specials lol
How does the cable attach to the top of the pin that was too large.?
Does it just click on or is there some kind of bolt that holds it in place?
Nice filming
2:34 Not a mess, it’s just very well lubricated on the outside.😉
Active underbody protection
@@petermolnar8667 That too! 😁

Will have been interesting to see the difference in tolerances between the eBay part . And a genuine part
0.2mm on the pin, as stated in the video

Bonjour,
Très bonne vidéo quelq'un serait il le nom de cette ou puis-je la trouver
Merci d'avance
At first I thought the nut was just loose, it certainly looked like it.
That clutch pedal says a lot
u think the clutch pedal is related to the gears not engaging?
@@davesterl nah just noticed the city driving wear
pretty normal for this age and mileage

Some customers are best avoided I quite agree 👍
