- The way Netflix cancelled Inside Job after it was renewed is actually terrible. And I needed to talk about it because this just can't keep happening in the animation industry. Show creators deserve more respect than this

Idk sorry
It was quickly becoming one of my very favorite shows, and it was just starting to breakout
This doesn’t make sense, why would Netflix kill it?
It gets worse when you realise a show about a puberty demon gets renewed and this gets cancelled while being greenlit
At this point, Netflix cancelling a show is how you know it was GOOD.
I mean I wouldn’t say it was quite good but still much better than half the schlock they have on there

Honestly I feel like many streaming services have adopted the mindset Nickelodeon has with SpongeBob.
“Oh? This show isn’t as popular as Stranger Things or Wednesday? Lol, let’s just cancel it then.”
Like seriously, streaming services don’t seem to realize not every single one of their shows has to be making the amount of bucks their most popular shows are. :/
This is why I hate watching streaming services, even though I used to watch Netfalls in the early 2010's.
Apparently if a show cannot bring in an exponential amount of merch sales, making more of it is a money sink to these gigantically rich companies...
@@maynot Weird since Netflix doesn't have too many merchandiseable big shows aside from ST and Wednesday.

Funny how 'adult animation' has a reputation for being pretty bad and getting more seasons than is justifiable, but Inside Job's case is the total inverse :(
Adult animation has a bad reputation because of numerous family guy/south park ripoffs, where they try to be both edgy and post simpsons-like at the same time and it fails with horrible animation and just unfunny jokes that the shock value doesnt even make up for

I didn’t hate big mouth season one but the fact that it’s on it’s SEVENTH season and so many other shows get cancelled is criminal. I don’t know what the hell is wrong with Netflix
That and the fact that Paradise PD ended up getting four whole seasons. Not only that but those same creators ended up getting another series in the form of Farzar.

This doesn’t just showcase a problem with Netflix, but a problem with the treatment of animation in general. A similar thing happened before the Writers Guild of America strike. And I think a strike is the only way things are going to get better.
This is why my entire family stopped using netflix. It's disturbing how they commission all of these shows and then leave them unfinished.

lt feels like the major media companies are canceling the best stuff to lower our expectations of media, which would make it easier to meet expectations going forward, and thus profits would be more guaranteed.
I know that is a tad conspiratorial, but I literally cannot think of a more plausible explanation for the constant struggles of quality shows while mediocre and below stuff thrives.

I agree we should hold companies accountable. Right now the Dungeons and Dragons community is raging against Wizards of the coast for betraying the trust of people with thier new Open gaming license. It is unacceptable and is awesome to see the community rise up and attack the corporate greed.
Honestly what makes this truly terrible is that they didn't just cancel the show outright. No, they had to give us hope so that they could then rip it away from us and plunge us into a pit of despair. It would've still sucked if they had just went ahead and cancelled it, but green lighting a second season and then immediately reversing that decision is so scummy for the amazingly talented team behind the show and the viewers. This show and its creators deserved so much better.
This.
This is why my advice will always be to end a season with a sense of finality, because no matter what the company says another season is never truly promised.

Streaming will not last much longer i feel.
I don’t see streaming going anywhere, but I do see the platform shifting. This could occur in a few ways.
1.) Companies are going to begin to form bundles and we will be right back to something similar to cable.
2.) Smaller companies that are barely afloat get purchased by the larger companies and competition narrows.
3.) Companies begin to realize they are losing money from having their own streaming platform compared to selling the rights to see their films on streaming.
4.) A third-party innovation somehow makes streaming obsolete (unlikely).
I do think Netflix may be one of the first streaming companies to go simply due to a lack of the established library some other companies have, as well as very poor decisions as of late.
I think it will last just as soon as they fire the dinosaurs out of the offices.
@@claytoncullers1884 Meh. I think Netflix is here to stay. And if they play their cards right they can stay at the top.

Netflix: Ill cancel thousands of promising shows before I stop renewing Big Mouth
They did the same thing with Warrior Nun. Cancelled after 2 seasons due to "not getting enough views". Even though it was one of Netflix's highest rated shows both with audiences and critics. Not to mention it received over 26 millions hours viewed in the first week of release and that was season 2. Netflix is holding Squid game and Stranger things as a baseline for any new show, if it doesn't hit the views they did, they get cancelled. Whether the show ended on a cliff-hanger or not. Reviews, awards, or audience satisfaction is not a metric they're tracking. This could be why Mike Flanagan has left for Amazon video before talks about a second season of the Midnight Club start. Also, A good reason why this Elvis series is coming could be due to the fact Netflix will do anything to hit a sense of nostalgia.

This kinda makes me scared for season two of Arcane, because like Inside job, a lot of people love it, it’s high quality and left on a cliffhanger. The second season is currently in development, but god knows if Netflix is gonna pull an uno reverse and be like “Quality? Arcane is produced by Riot Games themselves. Netflix just has the rights to publish it.
Don't worry, riot games paid for it to be made. Not Netflix, so it will not get canceled
If anything happens with Netflix than they would publish it on HBO or something else
Unlike Inside Job, Arcane isnt produced by netflix, its produced by Riot Games, so if Netflix really decides to throw away their golden goose, Riot can 100% get it picked up by another streaming platform

I loved 1899 for the first six episodes but the ending was really lame so I kinda see why they canceled it
@@kaiserfoxi266 The entire point was that it was the first season of a planned three-seasons arc (the same way Dark was), if you thought the ending was lame, by ending it, Netflix made it worse because the reason why it would be so unfulfilling because it left out in such a low note without a clear resolution to which another season would've offered one but no, Netflix cancelled it and now it's worse because we're left wishing for an answer that won't come anymore on account of Netflix's BS. >_>
@Perennial Lachrymosity I understand it was supposed to have more seasons. it's not just the ending itself that I didn't like, but where the story was going. I started watching the show initially because the setting was really cool. A late nineteenth century immigrant ship? That looked great. Now it's revealed that it's not even set in 1899 at all. No matter how many seasons where left, several things were made clear by the ending. 1: the setting sold by the show isn't even the reality. 2: Everything that happened between the characters on the ship is null because it happened in a simulation that happened multiple times and would happen again. None of the character development at that point mattered. 3: Many of the plot points where thrown out by the simulation reality. During the first few episodes characters would constantly say they "Can't go back" and are anxious at the thought of returning. This built up tension and questions about the characters past and what is happening at the place they departed. None of that matters now because none of it was real in the first place. Finally, the show isn't even a psychological thriller anymore. Every bizarre event or mind-bending situation is explained with "Their in a computer simulation." The characters keep talking about how "this isn't real," and referred to the fact that the world around them was affected by the limitations of their mind. That's super interesting. Turns out that wasn't true either because again, the whole thing is just a simulation made by a computer. It feels like a cop-out for what could be a genuinely interesting psychological thriller.
Another potentially interesting plot point was the man watching them on the cameras. The show built up the idea that he was the puppet master. He also said in a later episode that "This always ends the same, because they always make the same mistakes." This implied that the loop the characters were stuck in was directly caused by their actions, like some sort of purgatory. This was also really cool, until it was revealed that he was also just stuck in the simulation, contradicting everything built up to that point (and not in a subversive way, rather in a way that just doesn't make sense).
I didn't mean to make this comment this long, sorry for text wall. Honestly I would be interested to see where they go with it, but the reality of the simulation feels like a cheap way of explaining the plot. It feels like the writers wrote themselves into a corner, accidentally undermining what they had already established. I loved the show and like you I think Netflix shouldn't have canceled it. I'm sure the story would have moved along just fine and maybe have recaptured my attention in some way, and I also believe they would have made it make sense. My point is all the reasons I loved the show in the first place have effectively been written out by the ending. I just don't see how it could come back from that, because fundamentally it's not even "1899" anymore.
Had to vent that because it's been on my mind, this isn't meant to be combative to your point because I do agree. Thanks for reading.
@@kaiserfoxi266 honestly I felt the same but I kept those thoughts in the back for one reason only. These are the creators of dark. They make their stories from the very end and backtrack so I was excited and gave it the benefit of the doubt. Now it doesn’t matter I guess
@markel thomas I haven't seen dark so I don't know how the writers works, maybe I'll have to check it out
I really related to both Brett and Reagan, and I will really miss this show. This concept was simply brilliant and the character moments absolutely broke my heart in the best way possible. I really wish the characters would get their happy conclusion
I feel like Reagan and Brett in particular are such magnetic characters, and the way that the show approaches neurodivergency is really unique. Aside from Zoe in Sesame Street, I genuinely don't think I've ever seen a portrayal of an autistic character that isn't just a skinny, quiet white boy who is good at maths and loves trains (no disrespect to those kinds of autistic people, we're just not all like that), and the way they handle Reagan coming to terms with herself without making it inspiration porn is really well handled. Tbh, I was hoping that in season two we'd get a reveal that Brett is on the spectrum too - I mean, the puppetry thing? HARD relate - I'm a puppeteer myself and I'm pretty sure that my autism and my love of puppetry are related. It's much easier for me to communicate my feelings through a puppet than it is for me to outwardly show emotions. It would have been super refreshing to see a portrayal of an autistic/neurodivergent person who is extroverted and is really good at blending in with non-autistics, because there are quite a lot of us who don't really fit that socially awkward mould!
Agreed as a somewhat skinny gay white boy who everyone thought was good at math just because he was autistic lmao... Also yeah I would definitely have related with an autistic spin on Brett, most people wouldn't know I was autistic even after knowing me for like years unless I told them really. A lot of people really don't understand how social masking works, and Brett would be a great way of conveying that more nuanced discussion topic. Not that Brett HAS to be autistic either, because anyone can really grapple with people pleasing and self-worth. But I'm glad Reagan was such a good depiction of an autistic kid in between two narcissistic divorced parents. That much was pretty darn relatable. The fact that we either have to seek out telegraphed representation or just settle for speculating upon autisitc coding is sad (ash from pokemon is my personal example, shoving down his familial and personal problems, taking a really long time to get good at battling but excelling at it later on, learning better his own way rather than in traditional school settings, 'aura' as an unintentional metaphor for neurodivergency, etc.).
This is the equivalent of seeing literal gold appear right in front of you, with a sign saying "Take me and make money!" and refusing to take it and make money off of it. It's something that makes absolutely no sense in any shape or form, and quite frankly just means you should not be a big player in business anymore.
I think Netflix realizes that it doesn’t matter if they cancel good or bad shows because people don’t cancel their subscriptions. At least nobody I know has. I just prefer video games and anime at this point because modern American television is un-watchable.
@@neosharkey7401 True. I mainly keep Netflix because of LOTR, Star Trek, ATLA, and a few others.
Netflix: I don't understand, we keep constantly cancelling more and more shows, decreasing the amount of upcoming content expontentially and taking away shows people actually really like. And yet SOMEHOW we're not getting any more subscribers, it's a mystery !
At this point I think it's a conspiracy if you ask me they're trying to destroy the platform for some reason.
@@kwayneboy1524 Seems like HBOmax is doing the same thing. Too bad disney+ sucks unless you like marvel and star wars. What other streamer is there to pick up the slack?
I binge watched this show bc I finally remembered that I saw this video on it, and my god you are right.
I felt at home watching Inside Job, realizing it won't get another season after that cliffhanger is awful. Especially after relating to a character as much as I did watching Reagan. It also maybe kinda reinforces the idea that I might be on the spectrum and maybe my doctor was right to ask if I was ever tested lmao
The fact that this make me unable to watch Brett,Reagen, gigi and OTHER already making me want to cancel Netflix 😭😭😭
They really just cancelled the best animated shows and revealed Agent Elvis right after- thats VILE. Netflix is hopeless, I dont think I would ever experience the same feeling and emotion I have for Inside Job again towards their coming shows.
Idk. Agent Elvis looks like stupid campy fun. Sort of like Bubba Ho-Tep.
2022 and this year so far have been horrible years for artists
good shows getting canceled, ai art and nft drama. sad but we will get through all of that garbage eventually
the world needs to see more of our ideas
Yes, but also no. We went through some shit this year but we also got masterpieces like Menu, Everithing Everywhere All at Once, Puss in Boots, Marcel The Shell With a Shoes On... It is not all so bad. But if netlix cancels Arcane I will riot.
@@hiiamsam4808 riot studio just might too
Netflix and basically ALL THE OTHER STREAMING SERVICES kill creativity with wokeness. Meanwhile I already forged some pretty wholesome ideas for a possible animation series.
Unfortunately I don't have the budget nor any of my Discord friends to help me with the said series...
@@hiiamsam4808 yeah but those shows are from big companies so
@@ideac. Actually, it's all movies, but i can also give some tips for shows if you want
oooo, we DEFINITELY didn't know that before.
I was hoping it wasn't true. Now I have nothing to watch or look forward to on Netflix.
And that's why I'm rewatching Disenchantment, because I will seriously flip a table if yet another show I love gets cancelled on a cliffhanger.
season 3/part 5 of that show hasn't even been renewed at all yet despite part 4 having been released just under a year ago, so all I'm saying is for you to get ready to flip tables
I will literally cry if they cancel Disenchantment. All the good adult content is getting deleted 😔
@@Lee-fx7bd get ready and get prepared to cry, that's all I'll say
@@Connie_TinuityError I know what happens 😭😭. Hes going to continue from there. I assumed the show would at least.
@@Lee-fx7bd Matt Groening said something recently that sounded like they were in pre-production for the next season. I can't imagine he wouldn't have made a deal with Netflix unless there was a set number of minimum seasons to complete the story anyway. And if Netflix does cancel it, he can probably walk it back over to Fox (or Disney rather) since they've already started the new Futurama comeback. He's been the king of adult primetime animation since 1989 after all.
I never watched inside job, but when I heard that Alex Hirsch worked on it I now really want to watch it. It breaks my heart that something that looks and sounds amazing got canceled.
It’s so good 🥺 idk about other viewers but personally I felt seen by the characters. They’re just so relatable and the storylines and worldbuilding are so great.
@@christinaaspen3800 I might watch what exists of the show, then. It sounds good and I would expect nothing less from a show with Alex Hirsch involved.
I mean you can still watch season 1. It's not like the show was nuked. Canceled basically means that you won't see more of the show aside from that first season. Not that it's gone forever.
@@thehoveringkangaroo6493 i watched the show and the worldbuilding is great, the characters are great, everything about the show is great
@@tunnelsnakesrule7541 I know.
Damn, but at least I don’t have to renew my Netflix subscription now
Netflix cancelled Dead End: Paranormal Park and I am honestly still pissed about that tbh
And today I heard the news that they've cancelled Dead End:Paranormal Park as well. I don't know why they hate excellent shows
because they want that show to make the same amount of money as stranger things or squid game.
I am livid about that. The author is going to continue the story through the books. But it's still angering. There's not a lot of good kid shows with queer characters. It also tackles autism in a great way. But they had to delete it. Fuck Netflix
This is an injustice to Brett. He got a baller second season and then immediately got cancelled after it dropped.
not to mention i just was told they cancelled another good show i like! dead end: paranormal park!
the fan base is incredibly small but it seems everyone likes it (i haven’t really seen many reviews so take what i say with a grain of salt) it was genuinely good and we were left on massive cliffhangers but it got cancelled with only 2 seasons…
gosh netflix have just been going down hill! i haven’t watched inside job but i really want to and i’m disappointed that it’s being cancelled too
I hadn't even heard of inside job until I saw this video, and it genuinely seems interesting. Especially the way you described the main 2 characters sort of gripped me. As a social outcast, I feel like maybe I'd be able to to relate to the protagonist but I guess there's only one way to find out
Netflix: I ain't ever gonna financially recover from this.
I swear by the time I'm 30 they'll either be gone or under new management
Netflix consistently just hates money. It's like they don't have a PR team or a team for anything, like say, to find out what people genuinely want to watch, which seems important but hey maybe that's just me
Getting those people would cost Netflix more money, so they refrain from doing that.
That, or they are Warner Bros. people (or any company attributed to wokeness).
wow what a soothing voice thanks for the video
agent elvis sounds like a side gag that inside job would do as a quick five second joke
Well, you gave this such a glowing review that I want to watch it but now I'm not sure that I should given that it's canceled and ends on a cliffhanger. Really getting sick of Netflix canceling quality shows like this in their infancy.
It’s still well worth the watch, it’s a pretty serialized show so you won’t be super invested in the overall story as much as shows like bojack horsemen
They just cancelled Dead End today: another good animated show.
Netflix craves for its own demise at this point
Well that seals the deal on me cancelling my Netflix subscription
Netflix cancels and gets rid of good shows and movies but leaves dogshit trash like Big Mouth.
My favorite character was Brett because I kinda relate with him except for the part of needing attention. It sucks that there aren't many positive characters in western media. Almost all modern western protagonists are bitter, cynical, egomaniac and borderline sociopaths.
Have you watched The Dragon Prince? If you want something positive, that show is really comforting! The main character is a goofy teenage mage, whose little half-brother is the next in line to the throne. He's voiced by Jack De Sena (Sokka from ATLA) and the show was written by some of the ATLA writing team. It's really lovely and has just been greenlit for 5 more seasons :) Would highly recommend if you like Brett. Same for the upcoming Hazbin Hotel show - the main character Charlie is the princess of Hell but she's just a pure ray of sunshine who just wants to help people.
@@babyleafsaladd5322 Trust me, Dragon Prince is gonna get gradually bad, I feel it in my heart. Case and point, the writers think those Twitter made up genders exist
@@Halfort57 unnecessary transphobia there but ok
@@babyleafsaladd5322 If it's different than the usual stuff as you say, I'll give it a try considering that every character nowadays is a Rick Sanchez wannabe lol
Netflix: "So we know that we are cancelling all of your favorite shows, and honestly, we don't really care. In other news, Big Mouth will be releasing its 27th season this spring."
I'm devastated in Netflix descion to cancel such a great show, only to replace it with a complete mockery to Elvis, by turning him into secret agent talk about disrespectful, if he has alive he will be mad, this was a really excellent review of this show I never knew it meant so much to you.
I loved this show. I even added the theme song to my playlist because it’s such a banger.
I was just watching your Disney is a dystopian nightmare video and I get a notification to this midway through
They also cancelled dead end paranormal park but are ready to go with a 4th season of paradise fucking pd..
The Owl House and Infinity Train also got cancelled
Awhile back, I started this show, but thought it was "meh" partway through the first episode. Then I saw your video and decided to try it again, and I'm glad I did. Took a couple episodes for me to get into it, but I ended up liking it. Also, this probably dates me, but I was thinking about Fox cancelling Firefly after all this.
this is one of my fav tv shows, it sucks that netflix hates its viewers so much
I saw both the first and the second part the day they got put on netflix and I had never felt so seen by characters in my entire life. I feel like I’m actually grieving for this show (denial baby✨). Really just hoping netflix will realize it’s mistake and get it back on the air.
Inside Job: Gets cancelled
Me: Damn it! Well, guess I'll watch Trailer Park Boys again.
It’s like a competitor hired someone to apply to work at Netflix, become the CEO, and purposely run the company down so people flock to the competitor.
IMO this keeps happening because the crappy shows appeal to a larger audience and so they get more views that way. The good shows are usually more niche and appeal to a smaller audience so they end up canceling it. So sad.
If Netflix bought Breaking Bad when it came out it would be canceled after 2 seasons.
What about Bojack though?
They gave that six seasons and it even got a proper ending (hooray!)
After watching to the end of part 2, I was genuinely excited to see a season 2 to this show and where the characters would go next, and possibly a continuation with Reagan and the Shadow Board, as well as poking fun at more conspiracy theories in a witty dry humour manner. Netflix *_HAS_* to be intentionally sabotaging themselves with pushing truckloads of schlock, and getting rid of the diamonds they occasionally find.
Companies like this shouldn’t be getting away with this! There has to be someway that we need to take action!
I'm pretty sure most streaming services (and others) are trying to tank their company at this point all for the quick payout for the shareholders. It's really an awful time to be alive
