I won't stop being mad about this. Ever. I read the books when they started to come out and I wanted an screen adaption so bad and then we got it and is was so good and then it got cancelled. Still, one season is better than nothing at all but... I'm still mad >:(
@@poseiidon725 Jesus... I loved the books, and now to find out only now that there is a good adaptation, only then to learn that it's been cancelled for stupid reasons... The very definition of emotional whiplash lmao.
@@NotHappening-b8t The startup costs of making a TV show, getting all the contracts in, making schedules line up, that's very high, and studios don't like doing it all over again to revive a show they didn't consider worth continuing to begin with.
The whole bait and switch thing they did with the Scott Pilgrim anime was abhorrent and should be considered illegal. Yeah the creator said it was different from the comics/movie but not everyone follows or pays attention to creators' social medias. It's very slimy to advertise it as a complete adaptation of the comics/movie and then when it comes out, it's all different. That's false advertising and it's ILLEGAL to false advertise.
I was hooked in Lockwood and Co. from the first episode. The cast looked like actual teenagers and fit the roles so well. I was so looking forward to the next season. I was so sad when I heard it was cancelled.
@@0_Aconite_0same, i watched it because i scrolled Netflix in the week it came out and it was quite good and i was intrigued as to what more they can do with it but sadly after rethinking about it lately it apparently got cancelled
Netflix lost me when they renewed The Society for a S2, only for them to cancel it 2 weeks away from filming s2. While their crew was already setting up things in Massachusetts, and the cast had their flights booked. They found out online that Netflix canceled them. Netflix blamed Covid. YET, Outer Banks got to film their S2 2 months later. We would have waited to film The Society. Netflix screwed the entire cast and crew and their fans on that one. And I'll NEVER be over it. Shadow and Bone deserved better too.
I honestly think the Netflix executives don’t realize what doomed circle they created. Shows get cancelled all the time -> people stop starting to watch smaller, less known shows bc they will get canceled anyway -> show doesn’t meet the numbers -> gets cancelled …. I for myself can genuinely say that my Netflix consumption has gone down A LOT due to this. I rarely just go and start to watch random shows, bc I don’t want to get invested in them. But even big titles like Shadow& Bone don’t seem to be safe so ….. guess those will slowly die down too
literally I wait for a couple of seasons to come out before I watch a show, and Netflix should know people do this better than anyone. It's like they're punishing us for using Netflix like a streaming service.
This is so true, I just realized lately I've only watched old shows that Netflix has bought, that have several seasons and have already been concluded.
That's not why they're getting cancelled. We're doing this because we know they get cancelled. They get cancelled because their system is built on new subscribers and their first watches, they also look at media so how much promo a show gives for new subscribers, not how well a show has done. A show can get Emmys and be popular and will still get cut.
precisely the reason i didnt watch lockwood and co. cant go through another cancellation it SUCKS!! also every time i watch a new show i look up if it got a proper ending or not to prepare myself
@@tylerboothman4496 I do this as well. I still have not recovered emotionally from Firefly and refuse to be that disappointed again by a show I love. If its not already got 3 seasons I ignore it.
Yes!!! I can't even bring myself to watch Emily in Paris, the trailer is too cringe. But it must be getting a ton of watchage if it's getting new seasons
Lockwood & Co was so great. Loved it. Ended up reading the books to see how it turned out. The show was about an 85% accurate adaptation. What a weird coincidence that an adaptation of a popular book series was good when it was very accurate.
@@johnkont93 stranger things type ratings rarely ever come immediately, most shows have to grow into their popularity. shows like ozark were relatively under the radar at first before their quality slowly attracted a ladge audience by the series’ end

@@kryptonianguest1903 same! I read the books afterwards aswell. I was surprised how they kept so truthful to the original series. Honestly there were so many moments i wanted to see play out on the screen but unfortunately we're not going to get that
Lockwood and Co was brilliant. I literally bought all 5 books after seeing just 3 episodes, and after finishing both the books and the series I found an event with Jonathan Stroud (the author) in my country and bought tickets. Such a fantastic story, it was devastating to find out it was cancelled - especially since the show would have needed only 3 seasons max to cover all the books. It's like they forget audiences GROW over time. Nobody watched Succession season 1 when it came out, but fast forward 3 years and everyone's talking about it! They need to give these shows a chance! And I'm still salty over Anne with an E being cancelled, one of the best shows in the past decade.
So funny I did pretty much the same- after episode three I read all five books within about two weeks. They’re so good and I feel robbed that we won’t get to see some of the later book stuff brought to screen.
Thank you so much for boosting both Shadow and Bone and Lockwood & Co. The Netflix executives making decisions clearly aren't storytellers and that is for sure.
@@TheDuckKing007 The speedy cancelations also harm the quality of the product. Don't get me wrong. There were some questionable narrative choices in season two of Shadow and Bone, but it is clear (based on what many of the writers have said) that most of those choices were BECAUSE they were afraid of getting the axe/pressure from executives. It is immensely frustrating, but when you know you're only going to get two seasons, those seasons are going to feel rushed.
Netflix's cancellation model is really annoying for consumers too. there's a constant pressure to watch something as soon as it comes out, or risk it simply being cancelled. If your job or life doesn't allow you a ton of time to watch stuff, you have to be selective, and sometimes that means waiting until you hear some buzz around a show, and you simply CAN'T do that with Netflix cause by the time there's buzz, the show's fate has been decided.
That's not a Netflix thing, that's a media thing. Of course you have to watch something when it comes out. It was the same way with watching shows on network TV, where you (or more specifically, people who signed up for the Nielsen ratings program) would have to tune in week-to-week to their shows, or else risk their ratings drop, which could mean cancellation. If anything, the current subscription model is more forgiving, since you can watch your shows outside of the "prime time" broadcasting block and there's a window of time that they're watching the show, instead of just "the night it premiered," like it used to be. The Netflix model obviously has its issues, as Alex said. Dropping all 8 episodes in one night is great if your show is Stranger Things and you become a smash hit. But it doesn't allow you the chance to really build buzz or a following. Even Netflix has started to see that by now, based on how they delayed the final 2-ish episodes of the latest season of Stranger Things so they could have a few weeks of people talking about the reveal 3/4 of the way through.
@@swearimnotarobot3746Which was exactly what killed dramas on linear/broadcast TV. I got to a point where I'd only watch a show if it made it to mid-season (10-12 eps, back then), since by then the network would have a firm sense of whether they were keeping it or not.
You not only gave to watch it as soon as it releases, you also have to finish it. They factor in completion rate within a specific time frame. Sucks because the whole point of streaming is watching when you want
Honestly, it frustrates me so much. Julie and the Phantoms dropped on sept of 2020 and had a loving vocal fanbase and they strung us the fandom and the cast along for like a year before the canceled it. It won multiple awards and they still canceled it. It's a really sweet show about a girl overcoming her grief while performing with these three ghosts she accidentally summons. I cannot rec it enough despite ONLY HAVING 8 EPSIDOES AND BEING CANCELED
Came here to say this very thing! We stumbled on this one and I was heartbroken when I found out it was cancelled. I have quite a few of those songs on my Spotify playlist in regular rotation.
I was just thinking about this one, me and my best friend are still pissed that this show got cut short because its so good and still has so many unanswered questions.
What's so upsetting is that Netflix has been refusing to give the rights to other streaming services or to show's creators for series like Julie and the Phantoms, so I'm guessing the same thing is happening here:(( It's not that other streaming services won't pick up these shows, it's more that Netflix isn't letting them. I love Lockwood and Co sm and would've given anything for it to be picked up
NF only owns distribution rights fro Lockwood and Co which should expire anyway, meaning that NF doesn't own IP rights, which makes us all hopefull that the show will be picked up. ❤
Guess people should go to some other company instead of Netflix. Since netflix will literally take away their stories, kinda like how singers lose the rights to songs made with their own voice. Entertainment industry is just taking their chance to screw everyone up, before they become unnecessary.
@elisabethscholtz1862are they a good read? Cause there is a distinction of enjoying something in a different medium and not another. So I want to know how the books are
It’s so frustrating that Netflix is basically hoarding/gate keeping our favorite stories/art from us. With Lockwood and Co and Shadow & Bone, we have an incredible fandom and cast and making one or two incomplete seasons just to pull the plug is devastating. They’re teasing us with our fav stories, cancelling them, and at the same time preventing other more passionate streaming services to pick them up since they have the rights. Netflix is my Enemy for doing this 😭
I'm pretty sure they just buy the rights and then cancel and don't release them so then no one else can have it and they can hoard all the titles @@marlonmoncrieffe0728
the fact that lockwood and co was nominated for tons of prizes on its own and also, it’s now on the “popular now” row on netflix yet they decided to cancel it is so disappointing. i’ve watched the show three times and i’ve read the books, which makes it even more disappointing.
I legit cried when they canceled Lockwood & Co. It is the most book accurate adaptation I've seen in a while and the casting was perfect. I binge watched it which I never do, and I had hope that they would renew it for a 2nd season. Its completely stupid to cancel a show before it even has a chance to spread and get rooted.
I’m not one for ghost series or movies, but from episode one lockwood and co had ne absolutely hooked to the point were I stopped multitasking while watching (which I haven’t done for over a year)
Justice for Matthias! Reunite Kaz and Inej! Solve the ghost mystery! More Lucy and Lockwood goodness! Netflix made the wrong choice; they’re going for quantity over quality and too many good shows are not given a chance or falling into obscurity whilst crappy ones get renewed for their 6th season! Appreciate you giving Lockwood and co more advertising than Netflix did.
Lockwood and Co is arguably one of the best shows I've ever seen, (and I am EXTREMELY picky when it comes to shows) when I heard that Netflix had cancelled it, I can't tell you how shocked I was. Same goes for the Society. Geez Netflix.
I wont say the best, the acting was rather blank, the shows they didnt cancelled have better acting and bring them money, and I say this when Lockwood and Co is like my 4 th fav movie
I've read the Lockwood books and you have no idea what you have been robbed of. They basically only got to introduce the world and the characters. The rest of the story is epic and emotionally rewarding and just the craziest angstiest ride you'll ever go on
@@mandisaw I read the book series as as an adult and I loved it, it is written for a younger audience but doesn´t shy away from exploring dark themes. Definitely not your typical YA book. Jonathan Stroud is an excellent writer in general, I also loved The Bartimaeus Sequence.
Netflix keeps doing this and it honestly makes me shy away from watching any originals they make because I’m not interested in risking being eternally left on a cliffhanger. Which is such a shame because I miss out on some incredible shows but I just hate it when stories don’t have conclusions. They’re just not selling me a desire to watch anything new. It gives me a “why bother” feeling, because even when these shows do get views, they cancel it anyway.
Lockwood and Co being cancelled is what made me vow to never spend a single penny on Netflix. It's one of my favourite book series and the adaption was so well done. They said they only needed 3 seasons to properly tell the whole story! I said it many times before and I'll say it again, Screw You, Netflix!!!
I agree. Lockwood and co. was really very good, and Netflix goes and signs another letter on their death warrant. If they persist in canceling all their actually good shows, then eventually not enough people will have a subscription to Netflix and they will have to shut down.
I really am hoping disney pick it up. . . I mean does it matter where we watch at, can't the other giant streamers pick shows that was put down by Netflix
I'm so angry at Netflix, they gave me so many shows to love and then canceled them all all one by one. We're still trying to save at least Shadow and Bone (canceled 5 days ago), it really has a chance and for now we have over 135k signatures. So if you know what it's like to lose your favorite show, please help us by signing the petition.
I had no idea they cancelled it :( I am such a fan of the books and the series and was eagerly waiting for the six of crows spin-off. I would love to sign the petition, could you please link it here if possible?
When has a petition for a Netflix cancelled show ever done anything lol. All a petition is, is a request, Netflix isn't gonna do anything with it they own the show.
I hate Netflix for cancelling all of my favourite shows, it’s so unfair. I loved the society, they cancelled it. I loved shadow and bone, they cancelled it. I loved anna with an e, they cancelled it. I loved warrior nun, they cancelled it. Stop cancelling good shows, I hope they don’t cancel my recent favourites
I discovered Lockwood and Co about a month ago and the community is so passionate and welcoming. They're trying to hard to get attention to the show and try to get it picked up by another service or anything, so watch the show or sign the petition! We really need all the attention possible
part of the thing that pissed me off about lockwood & co is that not only did they not give it enough time to get popular, but they also did little to no advertising for it. so only if you were already in the l&c fandom before the show was made would you have any chance of knowing it was out. and the ironic thing is it got nomination for an award shortly after it got canceled. great going netflix
I was an odd case where I had no idea what it was and binged the whole thing in one sitting. I loved it, and it sucks to hear it got canceled when it was such a solid show with actors I personally wasn't familiar with, but excited me.
I watched lockwood and co without having read the books and LOVED it, it was dark enough that it didnt just seem like a kids show but the young characters make you root for them so hard 🥺
Lockwood and Co was literally such a good show and I'm so bummed it got canceled. It's based off of a book series so I'm excited to start reading those to keep the world alive
Honestly, I’m sad for the fandom but also for the cast. Season 2 has its flaws for sure, it was rushed and all but this cast was one of the closest I have ever seen, and they seemed to have a real good time on set. I’m so sad we won’t be seeing anymore Shadow and Bone, as much for the series as for the BTS that we got. 😔
Yeah, not to mention that fans would love the six of crows spin-off wayyy more than shadow and bone, considering soc is wayyy more popular than sab and the crows were the more loved/interesting part of sab anyways.
I think most of us are doing it for the crows spin off, because it has a huge fandom, but it can't happen without seasin 3, a season that was supposed to have the six of crows plot which is hugely popular and best rated in the YA book community. Season 2 might have been rushed and totally different from the books, but it doesn't mean the show doesn't deserve a second chance. They did everything right with the Crows.
Keep signing the petitions! We’ve got nearly 200k on S&B and maybe 34k on Lockwood and co. Thanks for talking about this. S&B and Lockwood and Co are my two current favorite shows and BOTH OF THEM got canceled?? Incredibly stupid decisions, they’re both based on book series with huge, loyal canvases PLUS the shows we’re pulling non-book fans too. MASSIVE fan base. Anne with an E broke my heart too back in the day. :(
What do you expect to achieve? Last time I signed such petition, the show got only picked up by a different provider, given to different team of people and ruined to smithereens. And I was pissed and wished it was never finished at all. The only way o fix this is stop paying to these idiotic providers to learn them a friggin lesson. So the next company knows to do it better.
I absolutely fell in love with the world of Lockwood & Co when I found the show on Netflix and I was genuinely devastated when I found out that it had been cancelled. I know that there's still a bunch of people putting in the effort to try and get the show brought back or get another platform to pick it up and I really hope that it works. It quickly became one of my absolute favorite shows, and now that I've read the books it's based on, I'm so sad that there's no plans to continue the adaptation.
This!!! I loved the show, I watch it almost every month and when it came out, I watched it back to back six times. It's just that good! But it didn't get the promotion and the buzz it deserved and I'm still heartbroken they cancelled it. At this point I just don't want Netflix touching any other form of media for adaptation. They'll just ruin it.
For real. I tried so hard to avoid watching it because I knew it was probably going to get canceled and I also knew I was gonna love it. I had never even heard of the books. I ended up watching the entire season twice in a week. I'm still salty about Inside Job getting cancelled. We don't have Netflix anymore.
This was my intro, color me intrigued! But 1- would it hold interest to an older reader, not into YA these days? And 2- it reminds me a lot of the anime Ghost Hunt, which was brilliant, until it too ended on a cliffhanger 😅 Do the books actually come to a satisfying conclusion?
@@mandisawthey do! And a lot of the active fandom is 30-40+ so I'd definitely recommend giving it a shot! Its very well written and not at all like typical YA. The world building and writing is immaculate.
And you didn’t even scratch the surface with its dialogue or the soundtrack and costuming- or even the lighting! Everything in this shoe is so put together and thought out. It’s the best quality show or media in general that I’ve seen for the decade and Netflix just up in candles it while being #1 in the uk, getting an award immediately, and getting no advertising from Netflix 😭
Broooo Lockwood and Co was such a good show, after i watched the first season i was so excited for season 2 but as usual Netflix cancelled that one show that people actually liked 😭
I didn’t even know there was a show. Wtf did they even promote it? 😭 I used to read it religiously back in middle school and the first thing I hear about the show is that it’s cancelled. That’s rotten luck
Anne With An E's cancellation still makes me so sad to this day. I love Anne and Gilbert. I love Ka'Kwet and I love that the show had a storyline about indigenous boarding schools. The atrocities that occurred at those schools are not talked about and so many people don't know about the history of them. I think that may be the biggest loss that came from this show being cancelled.
Yes!! Anne with an E was my mom and I’s absolute favorite show and we still haven’t recovered from it being cancelled. We were left with so many questions😢
My biggest annoyance about Netflix, Hulu, Max, or whatever is all the streaming services don’t put out DVDs so you can’t rewatch things offline. If that service decides to delete that movie or show for their servers? So sad, to bad. You can’t rewatch that movie or shows.
Lockwood & co isn’t a show I would’ve been ever watched, I’m terrified of anything even slightly ghoulish, but I randomly clicked it when it came out and could NOT stop watching it. The casting was phenomenal, the witty banter and chemistry, I loved it. So SO disappointed that it was cancelled, thank you for including it!
The thing is ratings and viewers for that show was really good same with another show half bad which was super popular was in the top 5 for over 10 weeks and was also cancelled not long after it had been released
Lockwood and Co is actually a 5-book series. I am a huge fan but had no idea that the show even released until I accidentally discovered it on Netflix (and then binged). They did such a poor job marketing and then immediately cancelled it. One of the few book-to-series adaptations that was done well! It's such a shame to not get the remaining story.
If even Shadow and Bone, the TV show based on the internationally best selling book series with an extremely loyal and dedicated fandom can get cancelled, what is the point in investing my time and energy in any new project Netflix puts out?
Shadow and Bone wasn't really popular though, it seems to have failed to get a significant part of the fans of the book to watch the show. Unlike, for example, One Piece that was highly successful and was actually able to get fans of the manga and anime to watch.
@@hittkid6312I don't think this is true, as a person who has read the books and know many others that have also read them. Every single person had watched the show and enjoyed it.
@@hittkid6312 I´m a little puzzled at what your definition of unpopular is, the first season of Shadow and Bone was the #1 show on the platform in 79 countries for a while. On a personal level every person I know in real life who has read the books has also watched the show. As a book fan I have my issues with the TV show, but I still think it´s worth saving.
I just watched Lockwood and co this month and IMMEDIATELY picked up all the books because it’s incredible and I can’t believe they cancelled it so quickly. I’ve been imagining all these scenes with the cast and we were ROBBED
The fact that there are a handful of media websites saying that Netflix is claiming that a reason they cancelled "Shadow & Bone" was because of the strikes was what I immediately thought when the WGA and SAG were striking. The real reason is because they are reducing spending on projects to adopt a model similar to TV, a lot of competition and lifestyle shows that don't require writing, acting or special effects that cost $$$. It's ridiculous - and to know that they're going to open brick & mortar locations (physical stores) for Netflix experiences is moronic!
Also, they completely rushed through the story told in the books and completely nose dived away from them. They pulled a Percy Jackson. I’ve read the books, and was so extremely optimistic from the first season. One season, one book, and they only missed some worldbuilding aspects that they didn’t explain and started focusing a little more on side characters. Cool, cool, I can vibe with this. But then they rushed books 2 and 3 into one season, so they didn’t properly explore either, ruined the ending to the books, and sidelined the main characters. So they ruined the story, themes, worldbuilding, pacing, and had no where left to go other than their own “creative vision”.
They’re basically living the inverse or blockbusters success and eventual downfall story. Like blockbuster was physical stores, couldn’t adapt to the times quick enough and got shut down. Netflix got popular for being cutting edge, is trying to go back to retro with the physical stores and tv model, and is now going to have their downfall
There is a twisted truth to that statement though, even if it's disingenuous. Technically the strikes did affect the show due delaying productions for months. That delay will in turn push the release months back and will damage the show when it comes out, which ultimately leads to cancelation. But to say the strikes are sole reason why it got cancelled is just a lie.
Lockwood and co getting cancelled was such a gut punch to me. The acting was amazing, especially because it was the actor of lock woods first time acting, the story was great and enticing , the special effects were so good and the mysteries were all there but very subtle. The chemistry between all the characters was also perfect. And apparently it’s a very faithful book adaption too. Cancelling it was crazy, especially because it was in the top 10 for a while
It's the best adaptation of a book i've seen so far, and they adapted two books in one season and it's truly amazing that they checked off any wish from my list and added things I simply needed! Cancelling it is such a waste of good faith.
Especially since the 3rd and 4th books are arguably the best. Like there would have been so much great drama and horror coming, and with such a talented cast. So sad about it
Hullo, I hope you have a good following as this video is my first time viewing your content, I am truly impressed by your take on the complete stupidity of the executives running so many of the streaming services! The sad thing is, I remember watching Lockwood & Co. Right after it dropped and thinking, "This is awesome. And it has so much potential. I can't wait to see more. And I absolutely never will because there's no way they don't cancel it." I hate that Netflix has taught me to have that expectation of pretty much every interesting show they produce.
Lockwood & Co had the potential to reach an huge audience and concurrence Percy Jackson. But no, Netflix needed to be greedy and short-sided. That's a shame really
I just don't watch Netflix series anymore, only the films. Literally every series I have been recommended by friends in the past ~5 years was cancelled without a proper ending.
If you haven’t done so yet, you should read the books. I haven’t watched the show (cause I don’t like adaptations influencing my personal imagination of the characters and scenery) but have read all 5 books and they are awesome!
SAME i didn't watch shadow and bone when it came out cuz I was so sure netflix would just cancel it after 1 season but when my friend told me they were releasing a s2 I decided to watch it over spring break and I got so invested I must have watched over 50 interviews of the actors just for it to be canceled like I originally feared
Same thing happened with 1899. It was made by the same writing duo that made Netflix's best show, Dark, which was massively successful. Was in the top 10 for weeks across all countries when it released. And the creators only planned for it to be three seasons long (as they did with Dark). But boom, cancelled after only a few months post-release. Fucking insane.
The books are much better. The show is...fine, not very good but compared to the god-awful adaptations we've been getting? so much better...cough cough Wheel of Time, Rings of Power

I'm so glad you enjoyed Lockwood and Co! Cancellation feels so unfair as Netflix barely promoted it; there's so much potential in the next books to be adapted with this perfect cast!
Lockwood and Co was so amazing, definitely my favorite series of this year and one of the best book to screen adaptations I’ve ever seen! Netflix really messed up with cancelling it bc if you’ve read the books, you know the story just gets BETTER AND BETTER WITH EACH BOOK! books 1-2 (which season 1 covers) were amazing, and 3-5 were just GOLD. really don’t get how anybody could think cancelling this show would be a good decision.
Yes! Also, it would have been only two more seasons, it's a very solid story which could have made a major impact on fans and the trust in Netflix. Right now they are destroying any kind of faith and it's only getting worse. I'm at a point right now that I don't want them touching any book-series for adaptation, because they'll just leave us hanging with abused corpses of one beloved stories.
All the cancelation that Netflix did only drew people further from the platform in fear of if they like one show, it would get canceled again. And honestly it's just sad. It's almost like a self fulfilling prophecy at this point. But thank you for covering this topic! Right now fans are trying to revive our favorite shows such as Shadow and Bone and Lockwood & Co through petition and trending hashtags. Please check the petition and help us reviving our shows so Netflix won't continue to axe good shows.
Exactly what I have done. I’m over it. There are all sorts of platforms out there that don’t cancel shows EVERYTIME ALL THE TIME. I personally think they should start 1 season shows. Make a story, tell it, have an ending, and let it be done. But they are all stupid over there so I have lot all hope for them.
Thank you so much for talking about Lockwood & Co! The fandom (who is the literal best and kindest fandom I've ever been part of) has been fighting hard to get it picked up and there is a petition! If anyone wants to sign, we would be immensly grateful
I loved Lockwood & Co. But I knew the moment the numbers came in it was one of those shows that was going to fight for its renewal. An immediate bubble show that didn't do badly, but not well either. Ultimately though it wasn't strong enough to justify 2 more seasons (the show was planned as a trilogy). Damn shame as it was SO well made. It was everything what Lock & Key should've been but never could become. Felt so bad for Ruby (actress that played Lucy) because she turned down her role on Bridgerton and recasted her for this show only to end up like this. Her character on Bridgerton was at some point going to be a lead (probably), but she made a risky bet and didn't pay off.
Yikes! I didn't know that about the actress! Poor girl... Anyway, 'Lockwood and Co.' and 'Fate: the Winx Saga' are the worst cancellations is recent NetFlix history and I am glad that all this negative buzz is so numerous! Maybe someone high up at NetFlix will finally get that their binge model does not work! P.S. NetFlix also canceled a similar show, a few years earlier, titled 'October Faction,' also about paranormal investigators.
I want the BBC to pick up Lockwood and Co. That show was incredibly well written and acted and it finished on a teaser of Lockwood's true past and I really wanted to see it! Even Disney Plus should look at the show FFS. A Ghost Hunting show about kids that doesn't talk down to it's audience and doesn't pull; it's punches? This was a gem we should've gotten like 7 seasons of. Ghostbusters meets Harry Potter. How can they let that go?
oh lockwood and co is a 5 book series so if you havent pickef them up yet you should cause there's nothing more unsatisfying than ending something on a cliffhanger and not finding out the truth
Lockwood and Co cancellation literally broke my heart. I have been a huge fan of the books and was eagerly awaiting the show. And it was one of the best book adaptations I've seen in recent times, you can see the respect for the source material shining through in the show. And they've improved upon it as well. They've removed some of the annoying elements in the books and replaced it with better ones in the show. To have it cancelled after one season, citing low viewership of all things (when we all know that it has good numbers) was just the most gut wrenching thing to me as a book fan.
Loved lockwood and Co. Got totally hooked on not only the plot but the characters. I'm so disappointed there's no second season. There was so much more to flesh out and Lockwood and Lucy...no kiss?😢 the gazes between those two were so adorable😊 hope the cast goes on to bigger and better roles. They're a real talented crew.
I'd like to see it get a second season much more than shadow. Felt the writers let it down badly. Two episodes per story was just way too much, they should be showing more connected to the main plot.
I remember also this had one of the highest ratings on neftlix for a tv show at the time. cant believe its been cancled, the book series is finished, so they really know what is vital to tell the story and what they can scrap, and its honestly such a letdown.
The thing that upsets me the most is that they didn't give the green light to Six of Crows (the Shadow and Bone spin-off), which has an awesome cast and a good plot, just because they're doing another spin-off for the Witcher. Please sign the petition 'SAVE Shadow and Bone' to help us get this spin off 🙏 (for now it already has over 135k signatures but we need much more)
@@supadrawcreate2701they’re referring to the comment which stated that the canceled the spinoff because they’re doing another spinoff for the Witcher. Their comment is referring to Netflix, not the people trying to save Shadow and Bone
Shadow and Bone was really popular among both book and show fans. This show deserved a S3 to finish the storylines. And Six of Crows spinoff scripts are already written and the cast and crew really want to do the show. Please consider signing the petition to aave the shows, these characters means so much to so many people. ❤
The writers made sure to insult and alienate half the fan base in season 2. They needed all the numbers they could get but wanted to just spit on fans faces
I'm confused. The show was a mixture of Six of Crows and Shadow and Bone. Most of Six of Crows has already happened so how were there "Six of crows scripts"? Honestly, the second season was a disappointment. They should have just done Six of Crows and not the whole Alina stuff.
The books are so good. I however think this is one occasion where the adaptation fixed some of the flaws of the books. Im so upset I wanted to see how they completed the rest of the books.
@@forgetaboutme5414 Interesting. I'm curious to know what you thought the show fixed from the books. Because sadly I thought the changes they made were quite unnecessary and it annoyed me a bit, lol. I do agree the books are fantastic though.
The most frustrating thing abt shadow and bone being canceled is how much potential it had-like it was amazingly done and so loyal to the books and there was so much that hadn't happened yet which would have been so good, like the ice court heist ,that we just won't get to see.
@@am3thysts the author helped make the series she worked with the director and they combined new ideas with the first book and the six of crows. to make it have a bit of difference to the books and to make it more well rounded. its is your opinion i think it was a great series but obviously i wont be for everyone

One show that netflix cancelled that got me really pissed off is 1899. That show could’ve been as great as Dark if it were given the chance to actually develop until s3 like the directors and producers intended it to be
Same for me. Dark is my all time favorite show and (just like 1899) one of those shows that was completely planned beforehand. I was so incredibly mad that they cancelled 1899 since the whole thing was basically already written for 3 seasons and we'll never know the complex story that the writers came up with. I was even more pissed when I watched the Making Of and saw how much money and work went into this project and they decided to cancel it ONE AND A HALF MONTHS after release. It didn't even have a chance, especially since it was released a week before "Wednesday" and there's no way to compete with that show That being said, I cancelled my prescription shortly after they cancelled 1899. Back then I also watched the first season of Shadow and Bone because I liked the books and I feel incredibly bad for all the fans right now. Same shit different year
@@sandra-p5x exactly. 1899 never had the chance to even gain a wide audience slowly like Dark. Sad how the story barely scratched the surface and now we will never know what the writers have already planned. I quite enjoyed shadow and bone season1 too so I’m glad I cancelled my subscription too
Lockwood and Co was such a good show! Binged the whole thing the first day it came out, I couldn't stop watching! Finding out it was cancelled was devastating
my friends and i were so devastated when Lockwood and Co. got cancelled. i've watched it so many times and i love the characters so so much. netflix doesn't know what they're doing. how could they let Riverdale go on for SEVEN GODDAMN SEASONS but won't even let Lockwood and Co. have two??? as for Shadow and Bone, it deserved a third season and/or the Six of Crows spinoff. they had absolutely no reason to cancel it and it was unfair to the fans, cast, author, and everyone involved in the making of the show.
lockwood & co was coming out as i was growing up, i stumbled into the series when i was 12 or 13 and then i got the new book every year for my birthday because it always came out this time of year and my birthday is in december, it was my harry potter. i still have all of the books and you can imagine my excitement when i, one day, opened netflix to be greeted by lockwood & co on the big starting banner. i watched the show in two days and then i prayed to marissa fittes‘ ghost every day, which clearly was the incorrect gohst to pray to in this scenario, that netflix would renew the show. the first season was perhaps the most faithful book adaptation i have ever seen and i just know the writers would have done a great job with the other three books, if given the chance.
Netflix made everyone wait like a year to find out if Julie and the phantoms would be renewed only to cancel it like a week before Christmas. the cast found out while doing a panel at a convention I believe. Netflix is ruining themselves by cancelling every good show
it's so sad that Ruby Stokes left Bridgerton for Lockwood & Co, and that it was Cameron Chapman's first movie role ever, just for it to get cancelled. It's my favorite series ever, both tv and book.
I'm absolutely devastated about the fact that Netflix decided to cancel Shadow and Bone. It was such a good series, and it ended on a cliffhanger, not completed, and they CANCEL it!? I'm so upset, the cast had such great chemistry and honestly, the whole grishaverse lore coming to the screen would have been so fantastic. Netflix is so ass.
People, if you want to help shadow & bone to get picked up again, SIGN THE PETITION. Best example: warrior nun got picked up again after being canceled because the petition reached 120.000 signatures. SHADOW & BONE HAS MORE THAN THAT ALREADY AFTER NOT EVEN A WEEK!!! It’s not impossible!!!
I'm sure it was the same with sense8, it got an extended episode to tie things up after the series was cancelled, hope it works this time and they finish the series 🤞
I’ve never read the Lockwood & Co. books, but was annoyed as hell when I recently found out the show had been cancelled. What annoyed me even more was finding articles that said that at the time, Netflix didn’t even take it/show it off at their yearly Netflix Tulum (I believe that’s what it’s called) despite it being on there ‘only on Netflix’ slide on the home page. That and the fact it got absolutely NO promotion. I only found it because I occasionally check there ‘coming soon’ tab and spotted it, thought it looked interesting and let the trailer play.
Inside job personally hurts the most. But then Netflix released Nimona which had no reason to be as good as it was, and now I can't even hate on Netflix properly
when I came across inside job i thoight it was such a cool show with a unique concept- the shock I got when I found out it was only one season with THAT big of a cliffhanger too. i agree again though nimona is so unreasonably good
This! Inside Job was litterally already partly developed, like season two had shit made, and they just dropped part 2 of s1 and was like "haha, fuck the creators" this is done
The one time cartoon creators have talked me into watching something on Netflix with a few exceptions: Cobra Kai, Wednesday, Squid Game, The Sandman and Kid Cosmic. I barely watch anything now until the series has ended or to avoid getting spoiled
I have this love hate relationship with Netflix right now. They cancel good shows, they ruin easy adaptations, they save shows and movies other channels screw over, and they perfectly adapt very difficult shows. I love them For saving Star Trek Prodigy, and I am amazed at how good One Piece was. Honestly if they cancel One Piece after two or three seasons I'm gone. It needs to last ten seasons.
this video gave me a ridiculous false hope that maybe Netflix will stop doing this soon, as they recognise you as a legitimate reviewer of their shows, thank you so much for bringing up shadow and bone too, one of my favourite shows, I was so disappointed to hear of the cancelation of it, and the fandom surrounding it was huge!
It's WILD that L&Co was Cameron Chapman's (Lockwood) first screen role. He absolutely NAILED it and now I can't reread the books without imagining this cast! But honestly the books only get better and better from where they left off in season 1. I REALLY hope that the production company Complete Fiction is able to continue it with another platform 😢
I want to start reading the books! Absolutely loved the show! Question though, is there still a hinted romance between Lucy and Lockwood in the books like it was on screen??
I have heard Netflix have an algorithm which calculate the ratings over the first 3 episodes, if they fail to reach a target, the series is cancelled. If the BBC did this years ago, Only Fools & Horses, the most successful British comedy series ever, would not have survived a second season, as the first suffered poor rating. The problem is, for one thing, shows take a while to develop, and people may not be aware of them initially, plus, no one wants to invest in a Netflix series, because they don't want to be left on a cliffhanger, when the show is cancelled. The most stupid thing is, a lot of shows Netflix bill as trending, and must watch, are shows they have cancelled.
i was so angry Lockwood was cancelled. the show's amazing, i watched it the 2nd time right after i finished it for the 1st - this level of good. honestly, i don't even know what these media companies even want now
Yes! It's like: it didn't get any promotion and was in the Top 10 nevertheless, it got amazing ratings from viewers and critics, it got nominated for an award. I can't believe they just expect any show to be a major hit now. It's that or cancellation. And I can't imagine it's cheaper to create a new show after the other. Just plan to adapt the whole thing or get your greedy fingers off my favourite book series, Netflix!!!
lockwood and co being cancelled felt PERSONAL. I’m from London so I love seeing my city shown in good shows, especially fantasy. It really pissed me off.
Due to the terrible marketing, I found out there was a Lockwood and Co. show and found out the later seasons were canceled all in the same day. Ended up pirating the first season because I hate netflix for canceling it.
i had been waiting FIVE YEARS for netflix to get their shit together for lockwood and co (it’s my favorite book series) and them CANCELLING IT broke my heart. it’s such an excellent story and the fanbase is lovely. thank you so much for bringing attention to this issue, it means a lot to all of us! sign the petition. email the execs. let’s go locknation!
I loved Inside Job. But I'm not gonna blame Big Mouth for it. I mean what did that show do? Survive? I don't really care. I never watched Big Mouth, No one ever Forced me to watch Big Mouth, I lose nothing from Big Mouth's existence.
I discovered Lockwood & Co. this week! For those who are wondering, it’s basically Sherlock Holmes as a teenage ghost hunter. And I just happened to stumble across it. I had no idea that it even existed - and I was confident that it’d get a second season. It’s not on the same level as the BBC Sherlock Holmes (seasons one and two), but it’s a solid watch. It’s fun, a bit campy, and the premise is surprisingly unique. I personally like it better than Stranger Things. It’s also MUCH better than most of the mediocre garbage on Netflix.
I was DEVASTATED when I read that Lockwood & Co is cancelled and so confused how they could do it so quickly!! I really wish they would bring it back it was so freaking good and left on a cliffhanger too!
Too bad that big media corporations might listen to Zach Snyder fans and give him money to release his Director's Cut, but not save actually good shows. Normally I'd wince and hope that we get another adaptation in 20-30 years, but Stroud didn't make it big enough to have the necessary longevity, even though he's a much better author than JK Rowling. And honestly, Netflix will probably sit on the rights and refuse to give them to anyone.

Yeah, Netflix only suggested it to me last month 👀 so I'm late getting to it, but I loved it and was looking forward to the next season.
part of the thing that pissed me off about lockwood & co is that not only did they not give it enough time to get popular, but they also did little to no advertising for it. so only if you were already in the l&c fandom before the show was made would you have any chance of knowing it was out. and the ironic thing is it got nomination for an award shortly after it got canceled. great going netflix
Oh Shadow and Bone has also been nominated for a ton of Emmys and still got canceled. I was sad I only really discovered it after it was canceled.
This is the first time I am hearing about lockwood and co. How do they expect for a show to become popular if they don't do any marketing for it?
exactly! i found it by accident whilst looking for locke and key😭
You will not be disappointed those books were amazing
Honestly, I’m sad for the fandom but also for the cast. Season 2 has its flaws for sure, it was rushed and all but this cast was one of the closest I have ever seen, and they seemed to have a real good time on set. I’m so sad we won’t be seeing anymore Shadow and Bone, as much for the series as for the BTS that we got. 😔

There is a campaign going on online that seems promising. And it's already done more than the Warrior Nun campaign (which was successful).
Yeah, not to mention that fans would love the six of crows spin-off wayyy more than shadow and bone, considering soc is wayyy more popular than sab and the crows were the more loved/interesting part of sab anyways.
@@bashlikesbooksyes!!! With a good budget and dingy setting it would be firreeeee
It's nice to see the recognition for Lockwood & Co in this video. There is so much junk on Netflix and they chose to cancel this one...
Yeah, I don't get why they keep cancelling the good stuff and keeping the junk
They just set up the big plot stuff I was soo looking forward to it 😢
Same…I just found out that it’s canceled with this video😭
For real. I tried so hard to avoid watching it because I knew it was probably going to get canceled and I also knew I was gonna love it. I had never even heard of the books. I ended up watching the entire season twice in a week. I'm still salty about Inside Job getting cancelled. We don't have Netflix anymore.
Speaking as someone who read all the L&C books, and is very attached to them, I was delighted by the show, and adore it.
The books unfortunately suffer from not like other girls and a few other issues, so honestly I find the show an improvement in some aspects.
it was such a shame they didn't get to Hollow Boy because it's my favourite of the series
Same. They were not only accurate to the books but even expanded on them in a brilliant way
This was my intro, color me intrigued!
Super underrated show. Damn shame it was canned.
sameee. I picked up the books because I wanted answers.
I didn’t even know there was a show. Wtf did they even promote it? 😭 I used to read it religiously back in middle school and the first thing I hear about the show is that it’s cancelled. That’s rotten luck
I literally cried when I heard that Lockwood & Co was canceled 😭😭🥺
Anne With An E's cancellation still makes me so sad to this day. I love Anne and Gilbert. I love Ka'Kwet and I love that the show had a storyline about indigenous boarding schools. The atrocities that occurred at those schools are not talked about and so many people don't know about the history of them. I think that may be the biggest loss that came from this show being cancelled.
Yes!! Anne with an E was my mom and I’s absolute favorite show and we still haven’t recovered from it being cancelled. We were left with so many questions😢
The only show I cried for 😭 I watched it in 2020 and still can't get myself to watch it again because of the deception 🥺
My biggest annoyance about Netflix, Hulu, Max, or whatever is all the streaming services don’t put out DVDs so you can’t rewatch things offline. If that service decides to delete that movie or show for their servers? So sad, to bad. You can’t rewatch that movie or shows.
Trueeeeeee
Lockwood & co isn’t a show I would’ve been ever watched, I’m terrified of anything even slightly ghoulish, but I randomly clicked it when it came out and could NOT stop watching it. The casting was phenomenal, the witty banter and chemistry, I loved it. So SO disappointed that it was cancelled, thank you for including it!
Try the books they are great and the characters were spot on in the series
SAME! I’m always so scared of shows that looks like horror, so when I saw my sister watching I was like « HEY THIS LOOKS GOOD »
Lockwood & Co!! That cancelation hurt me, especially because it definitely had the potential to become massive and Netflix didn’t give it a chance
The thing is ratings and viewers for that show was really good same with another show half bad which was super popular was in the top 5 for over 10 weeks and was also cancelled not long after it had been released
Alex inspires me, my parents said if I get 30k followers here They'd buy me a better mic for recording,, begging u guys, literally begging..

All of this cancelling and removing of shows is going to make people not want to subscribe to streaming services.
It's ridiculous - and to know that they're going to open brick & mortar locations (physical stores) for Netflix experiences is moronic!
your fan theories and head canons are just as bad IRL as they are in your fandoms.
So Netflix is opening physical locations? I wonder what they plan to sell in those stores because I doubt they will be doing what blockbuster did.

Easy, watch it enjoy it and don't get attached. If it gets more seasons great, if it doesn't well who cares.
You mean, thats why you basically should not watch any show anymore as they starve us with 8-12 episode "seasons" (if even) and then just stop...

Lockwood and Co was so amazing, definitely my favorite series of this year and one of the best book to screen adaptations I’ve ever seen! This! 10000% agree!!!
You just made me want to read those books.
All the cancelation that Netflix did only drew people further from the platform in fear of if they like one show, it would get canceled again. And honestly it's just sad.

I loved _Lockwood and Co,_ and I was (and still am) very disappointed in Netflix cancelling it.

It didn't even have a chance, especially since it was released a week before "Wednesday" and there's no way to compete with that show
That being said, I cancelled my prescription shortly after they cancelled 1899. Back then I also watched the first season of Shadow and Bone because I liked the books and I feel incredibly bad for all the fans right now. Same shit different year

Riverdale is a CW show with most seasons around 20 episodes. Netflix only has to pay to license it rather than to produce it.
Also!! "I am not okay with this" such an amazing show but cancelled after a season:(
They left it on a cliffhanger too :(
lockwood & co was coming out as i was growing up, i stumbled into the series when i was 12 or 13 and then i got the new book every year for my birthday because it always came out this time of year and my birthday is in december, it was my harry potter. i still have all of the books and you can imagine my excitement when i, one day, opened netflix to be greeted by lockwood & co on the big starting banner. i watched the show in two days and then i prayed to marissa fittes‘ ghost every day, which clearly was the incorrect gohst to pray to in this scenario, that netflix would renew the show. the first season was perhaps the most faithful book adaptation i have ever seen and i just know the writers would have done a great job with the other three books, if given the chance.
Netflix made everyone wait like a year to find out if Julie and the phantoms would be renewed only to cancel it like a week before Christmas. the cast found out while doing a panel at a convention I believe. Netflix is ruining themselves by cancelling every good show

This goes for any of the shows, if you want any of them renewed show Netflix it has a large fan base !

I'm sure it was the same with sense8, it got an extended episode to tie things up after the series was cancelled, hope it works this time and they finish the series 🤞
@@Personwtcatsnot true. They canceled Mindhunter bc of costs
As soon as I saw the first episode of Lockwood and Co I got that “This is an adaptation” vibe.
It is.
Theres 5 books.
I’m gonna read em all.
Actually as soon as Alex mentioned the title I had a feeling it was a book series.
Just downloaded them.
Btw aren't they 6 books?
@ I could only find 5. But that was also 9 months ago, I don’t know if the author wrote another.
@hetzer5926 if you Google the books they are 6. The last one was written in 2017
I’ve never read the Lockwood & Co. books, but was annoyed as hell when I recently found out the show had been cancelled.
It could have honestly been Netflix's Rick & Morty. Too bad they wanted more Big Mouth instead.
This! 10000% this!!!
I want to start reading the books! Absolutely loved the show! Question though, is there still a hinted romance between Lucy and Lockwood in the books like it was on screen??
@@Kayotic.a I don't want to give spoilers but the answer is yes
@@sleepdeprivednwoozy THANK YOU
@Kayotic.a More subtle than the show but honestly I thought it was a more compelling slowburn than most outright romances
My husband and I really like Lockwood & co. It’s disappointing to have shows canceled so quick
U and me both, I really liked the show, now Netflix has canceled it so I lost respect for them
I have heard Netflix have an algorithm which calculate the ratings over the first 3 episodes, if they fail to reach a target, the series is cancelled.
Netflix sometimes gives me a show that's fun to watch, but doesn't give me all the seasons.

I'm so glad you mentioned Lockwood and Co😭
lockwood and co being cancelled felt PERSONAL. I’m from London so I love seeing my city shown in good shows, especially fantasy. It really pissed me off.
I feel sorry for all of the fans of these amazing shows, not to mention the cast and crew getting screwed over by Netflix
Netflix: cancels Inside Job After one season
Also Netflix: gives us an 8th season of Big Mouth
I never forgave them for cancelling Inside Job. I genuinely liked that show, it carried a bit of that Gravity Falls feeling that I've missed so much
I loved Inside Job.
But I'm not gonna blame Big Mouth for it.
I mean what did that show do? Survive?
I don't really care. I never watched Big Mouth, No one ever Forced me to watch Big Mouth, I lose nothing from Big Mouth's existence.
literally
Inside Job got 2 seasons, no? That's the one with the X-Files parody-ish vibe, right?

I agree I absolutely loved Lockwood & Co I was so angry when they cancelled it. Upside I did buy the books and read them instead and they are really good

Same I got so upset I read the books in protest.
What did Lockwood keep in his attic?
@@GothPaoki it's not an attic it's a bedroom. Google it I'm not going to put a spoiler
@@GothPaoki technically Lucy is in the attic if you mean the room they foreshadow in the series on the second landing, I promise the reveal is worth reading the books. The skull becomes my favorite character.
I stupidly adored Lockwood & Co, and Is till stupidly adore it, and then I learned it was cancelled and was SO ANGRY, why????
When I found out Lockwood was maybe going to get cancelled I deliberately binged it every evening
- and when that didn’t work out I just bought ALL the books and read them (they’re amazing)
So now I’m even more angry and sad they cancelled
