The reality of the lyrics as sung by Daltrey makes this song an anthem and an affirmation for men, as we are all, LOST BOYS! Written by Elton John and lyricist Bernie Taupin in 1974.
I totally agree that Mr Daltrey owns this song and gives his usual passionate and emotional best to the lyrics. And yes, it's on the Lost Boys soundtrack... bliss.
Gavin Helgeson Thanks Gavin. I am well aware of it. When I said I never heard this before I meant I never heard or knew that Roger Daltry had recorded it as well. For me, all due respect to EJ and GM, esp in light of recent events, that version pales in comparison to this. All the best.
Best version of this song. Hands down. No one has ever sung this song better and doubt anyone ever will. The voice, the passion, the heartbreak, the angelic background vocals, the horns, the guitar ❤
This version and the one done by Oleta Adams are my absolute favorites of this great, great song! Roger Daltrey's terrific rock raspy voice is magnificent and made for this track!
I swear the WHO is so underrated. I remember skipping school in 7th grade and seeing the afternoon movie and it was The kids are allright! Roger Daltrey was always my fave for a lead vocalist. Real.
I can't light no more of your darkness All my pictures seem to fade to black and white I'm growing tired and time stands still before me Frozen here on the ladder of my life Too late to stop myself from falling I took a chance and changed your way of life But you misread my meaning when I met you Closed the door and left me blinded by the light Don't let the sun go down on me Although I search myself, it's always someone else I see I'd just allow a fragment of your life to wander free But losing everything is like the sun going down on me I can't find the right romantic line But see me once and see the way I feel Don't discard me just because you think I mean you harm But these cuts I have they need love to help them heal Don't let the sun go down on me Although I search myself, it's always someone else I see I'd just allow a fragment of your life to wander free But losing everything is like the sun going down on me
I actually like all versions because it's a great song Bernie wrote. The live version with George and Elton is my favorite and this version so so close. 🎶 🎵 🪕 🎼 ❤❤❤❤❤
Roger Daltrey breathed new life into this song. I have always loved it, and by no means do I slight Elton John's solo or duet with George Michael performances. I just wish that I could here more of the guitar playing at the end of this. I cannot get enough of it. Sounds like Eddy Van Halen. (is it?)
Well, Roger. Looks like you won more than a few hearts with your version of this classic. I'll leave it there, we all have our reasons for that which we hold precious.
I love the song. I wish I could sing this song to win back my ex girlfriend/ fiance ' , but it's to late now, haven't heard from her in 5 years since she broke up. If I had it to do all over again, I'd follow this example, sing it to my ex. I just wished I held on tighter. I had everything, a good life & girl. & lost my girl, my life is upside down now, things aren't the same. . But I love this song. Roger Daltrey is superb.
FACT.. That song brought out Daltrey's voice really strong. Elton & Bernie wrote it i believe. SO.. Look for who else played/made it such a great song. Bliss
I love the Who, I love Daltrey's vocals. This is one of, if not my favourite Elton John songs. I would suggest anyone who likes this song to listen to the version by George Michaels.
Just watched the Lost Boys for the millionth time...and I realized for the first time who sang this this version. This song was made for Roger. I never really cared for Elton's version, and I'm a huge fan of his.
P.S. Lost Boys is not a "cult film." Literally, every single teenager in the 1980's was aware of it, and they saw it, and it was one of the best goddamn vampire movies ever made.
This is the best version of this song FACT. Coupled with the fact that this song was part of the Lost Boys.......Bliss. Pure bliss.
Fact !
Absolutely!!
Totally!
Agreed.
💯
Goerge Michael and Elton John of all people still can't match this guy's song I fkn love it whooooooxxxzzz
Roger Daltrey mastered this song. Nobody else can amount to the way he sings it. He was the man for it. Plus the rich strat sound makes it way better.
The reality of the lyrics as sung by Daltrey makes this song an anthem and an affirmation for men, as we are all, LOST BOYS!
Written by Elton John and lyricist Bernie Taupin in 1974.
I never really cared for this song until I heard Roger singing it. So emotional.
Great song and a great voice.
I second that sentiment !! The elton john version felt too varnished. I prefer Daltrey's rawness.
Roger Daltrey was born to sing this song!!!sorry Elton, :) so much emotion....perfection
“I’m growing tired”
Gets it done every time
The emotion he puts into this is just unreal.
Roger shoulda done a music video for this.
NO ONE rocks this song like Roger Daltrey and as an ADDED BONUS, it's featured on the Lost Boys soundtrack!!!!!
This cover blows the original away! Love the way Roger belts out "But these cuts I have they need love to help them heal."
Cords of the heart❤
This has always been my favourite version of this song, can't beat Roger Daltrey's vocals on this.
Daltrey’s voice is perfection in this song!
The vocals the production the orchestration combined perfection
Roger Daltrey is the best at singing this song 🎵.
Roger is THE person to sing this.
I totally agree that Mr Daltrey owns this song and gives his usual passionate and emotional best to the lyrics. And yes, it's on the Lost Boys soundtrack... bliss.
Roger nails this masterpiece. What an epic performance.
It actually blows away the original.
By far the best version ever.
One of my favorite artist and songwriter vocalist, please don't ever forget his name and music!
Never heard this before until today. For me, this is and shall always remain, THE definitive version of this song.
Brett Owen George Michael, Elton john version is great also, please have it a look.
Can't find this version anywhere to download - just tried spotify, nowhere to be seen.
Did Roger ever officially realise it!
The best version.
Timeless.
Love her! I was in the gulf war when she put out get here if you can, I think I listened to it daily
I swear the WHO is so underrated. I remember skipping school in 7th grade and seeing the afternoon movie and it was The kids are allright! Roger Daltrey was always my fave for a lead vocalist. Real.
underrated… they’re one of the most well known, acclaimed, successful bands of all time.
what on earth are you talking about?
I can't light no more of your darkness
All my pictures seem to fade to black and white
I'm growing tired and time stands still before me
Frozen here on the ladder of my life
Too late to stop myself from falling
I took a chance and changed your way of life
But you misread my meaning when I met you
Closed the door and left me blinded by the light
Don't let the sun go down on me
Although I search myself, it's always someone else I see
I'd just allow a fragment of your life to wander free
But losing everything is like the sun going down on me
I can't find the right romantic line
But see me once and see the way I feel
Don't discard me just because you think I mean you harm
But these cuts I have they need love to help them heal
Don't let the sun go down on me
Although I search myself, it's always someone else I see
I'd just allow a fragment of your life to wander free
But losing everything is like the sun going down on me
Thank you for the words to this classic.
I love this song & the movie, The lost boys
Thanks 4 sharing. Laurylie. Take care of yourself. Mark
Thanks for the lyrics!
This gives me the biggest goosebumps
Why Roger's version never became a worldwide hit remains a mystery?!
The best version in my opinion! love it
Daltery is just Awesome!!! Bravo encore!!!
Fave version of this song by a mile.
Just spot on. Perfection...
I actually like all versions because it's a great song Bernie wrote. The live version with George and Elton is my favorite and this version so so close. 🎶 🎵 🪕 🎼 ❤❤❤❤❤

there was a point in my life where this song from this soundtrack defined me. I lived it for 2500kms on a road trip.
God I miss the 80s so much... Google the movie releases of 1987 wow
Love this version way better. Plus its in the Lost Boys movie soundtrack at the end of the movie.
If you listen to Roger Daltrey’s album “”Daltrey” you realise the man had such power and it’s truly a masterpiece of an album
Roger is great !!!
Absolutely Amazing! best version ever
I knew this was going to be a brilliant cover when I saw the name Roger Daltrey. I wasn't let down. :)
That is the absolute best version of that song I have ever heard!
This is a great cover version. Amazing to think that neither the The Who nor Roger Daltrey have ever had a No.1 single.
Great version
Fantastic version, the very best.
Even as a young kid this version has a ethereal quality about it still does
Roger Daltrey breathed new life into this song. I have always loved it, and by no means do I slight Elton John's solo or duet with George Michael performances. I just wish that I could here more of the guitar playing at the end of this. I cannot get enough of it. Sounds like Eddy Van Halen. (is it?)
Reb Beach (80s band Winger).
Perfect mr Daltrey
Best version ever! Daltrey is superb!
Well, Roger. Looks like you won more than a few hearts with your version of this classic. I'll leave it there, we all have our reasons for that which we hold precious.
This song is the reason I always listen for the second song when credits roll...
The best version of this song by miles!!
What a tune sang by the best
This still rocks
Great great great and then some
Thanks to every reply. I eventually got it and what a bloody pleasure it is 🤗
Heard during the end credits of the lost boys which that edited version is clearly half of this original version 3:10 long.
I love the song. I wish I could sing this song to win back my ex girlfriend/ fiance ' , but it's to late now, haven't heard from her in 5 years since she broke up. If I had it to do all over again, I'd follow this example, sing it to my ex. I just wished I held on tighter. If things are bad, it can only get better! Hang on!

this version makes me cry for something and i dont know why , thank you roger
George and Elton's versions are superb, but Roger's is just tremendous!
It's a pity Elton and Roger or Roger and George never duetted on this. That would have been truly special
indeed the best version of this song
One of the best, love that intro 🙂
Brilliant.Thanks.
FACT.. That song brought out Daltrey's voice really strong. Elton & Bernie wrote it i believe. SO.. Look for who else played/made it such a great song. Bliss
A brilliant cover by Roger ❤
Love it
I'm so glad I'm not the only person who thinks this is a much better version than EJ and GM ,on so many levels it leaves everyone else so far behind

IMHO the best version of this song ..but then im a big fan of the who ..met Roger in 1990 when I drove him to Heathrow airport
What was he like?
I love the Who, I love Daltrey's vocals. This is one of, if not my favourite Elton John songs. I would suggest anyone who likes this song to listen to the version by George Michaels.
I’ve heard George Michael’s version but it’s nowhere near as good as this. And I’m a George Michael fan.
I like both. George was a special singer
The guitar solo at the end makes this song phenomenal!
💯 only genius can make this guitar end
I agree! Sorry Elton... Love you man but this awesome!!!!
Absolute justice done to this marvelous song by Elton John.
One might even say this performance surpasses the Original . . .
Equals, but surpass? I don’t think so!,
Let me agree. It is needless to compare,
since both of them are outstanding.
It does surpass the original in every way
Just watched the Lost Boys for the millionth time...and I realized for the first time who sang this this version. This song was made for Roger. I never really cared for Elton's version, and I'm a huge fan of his.
At 5:43, that guitar....
Reb Beach
Wish he would make us more music..
THE GREATEST VERSION EVER...
Brilliant, all songs on Lost Boys are
One thing about living in Santa Carla I never could stomach, all the damn vampires
I can see why they want to hide this version of this song. Because it's actually GOOD.
P.S. Lost Boys is not a "cult film." Literally, every single teenager in the 1980's was aware of it, and they saw it, and it was one of the best goddamn vampire movies ever made.
I frankly think no one beats this one 😂
The Lost Boys
