  • this is repair done from a E64 code on an Electrolux dryer. Most of the time this means that the heating element has burned up in one spot most likely will still get heat sometimes when I get heat at all. sometimes it will be a thermal fuse that has burned up on the heating element usually caused from lack of airflow either from the filter area being blocked up or the exhaust area being blocked up.

This was an excellent video to follow. And giving the part number at the end saved me over a hundred dollars on the parts. Cannot be thankful enough for the help.

Thank you for this video. I really appreciated the up close view of the ground wire as I had some confusion when swapping out my dead heating element for a new one. You clarified the little tab looking thing. Thank you!

Just a reminder that airflow includes in the intake. The heater is first in line, thru the drum and into the lint trap/duct and then the blower/ motor assembly. If there is a restriction in the blower duct, it can cause heating element issues even though the discharge hose is clear. By disassembling the dryer from the front, many items mentioned can be checked and eliminated. Don't forget, these dryers are up to 10+ years old and it would not be uncommon for the element to just open due to age/hours of use. Thanks to all for the input in this comments section. Man, it is much easier just to remove a front panel for this heater replacement .It is such a crazy and time consuming way to handle this task from the back.Thank you for your vid!

That’s what mine was doing, would still work for twenty minutes or so and then shut down with E64 code. Replaced element cleaned all up and wife is happy again😊. Replaced from the front which was much easier for me.

The high limit thermostat and/or thermal fuse would kick and error before this warping would ocurr, right? I have continuity at room temp on both. Should I put new ones on new heating element?

Great video and how you walk it through the details in taking a part.
It was easy, but I was a little hesitant at first. I order the part through Amazon for $39 same day delivery.
Btw I called around at first some random appliance service and repair through Google and I probably called about over ten of them and nothing available or they return my calls. I’m not the only one having issues with my appliances. Thanks Man again for this video it help a lot. 👍👏🙏🏻👨🏻‍🦰

dont know if you'll see this but we replaced the heating element (and i think some sensors) when we first got the problem now 2 months later its up again any ideas??
its not the lint as out house in more on the new side than the old, we dont let the lint build up beyond two uses in the case we forget and we semi reg vacuum out what little we can reach from the opening
    thank you

So if this dryers normal heat and high heat cycles are working fine, but the delicate heat cycle only works on and off then what would the problem be? Is it the heating element?

Also I forgot to mention each strand of that heater has a separate relay on the main control board so it can energize one heater two or three to get different temperature levels so that's how it continues to heat when one or two of them are burnt out and again the reason they burn out bad air flow.

I got to the part where the screw at 4:40 needs to be removed, except it wasn't there, because my friend's repairman forgot to put it back. That cover still seems to be connected to the heating element somehow though. Having trouble figuring out how. Gonna move on to removing the screws in the "feet" of the heating element.

I had the exact same problem with my heating element. The center started to bend and then it touched the sides. We replaced the heating element and now the breaker trips during cycle (not all the time, but most times. No rhyme or reason as I tried low setting and shorter times.) Did I do something wrong replacing the heating element or is something else need repaired, like the hi temp switch or thermal fuse? Check error code and it said E63

A lot of times dryers have a airflow problem. Check to make sure there is not a lint buildup somewhere in the dryer or in the line going out of the house.

That's really not a bad design the three stage heaters been around a long time GE has used it for 40 + years the whole problem is the vent is plugged up somewhere past that dryer either the vent hose was smashed or there's a screen on the roof cap if it goes up through the roof those heaters don't just fail if you notice the entire can is Ash white and turning black that is specifically because of bad air flow I clean dryer vents professionally and I have been in an appliance technician for 35 years that is a simple air flow problem the galvanized metal is getting super hot from restricted airflow I just finished cleaning the vent on the exact same dryer and the heater looked exactly the same except it wasn't burnt out yet. It's all about air flow. This is a very good video on how to take this unit apart however it is actually easier to do it all from the front especially if you're in the customer's home and you need to clean all the lint out anyway. Just throw in my two cents in .good job 👍

Yeah I would say most of the dryers I get to work on have a original problem of airflow. Either in the dryer or restriction from the exhaust vent.
The big problem I have with these newer dryer is instead of the thermal fuse going out before the heating element burns up it will always be the heating element on newer dryer . I work on older dryers that are 20 and 30 years old that the heating elements are working just fine but a thermal fuse has popped. Newer dryer are just not designed to last like the older ones were.

I agree with WDM on this, bad design if the thermal fuse doesn't blow before the entire heating element, that's like having a car that the engine seizes before the check engine light comes on.

This was the top rated dryer across most review sites when I purchased this dryer. I think my heating element failed as my outside exhaust vent was clogged up with wet lent…My dryer door steamed up twice but I failed to go outside and clean the vent cover.

Take apart from the front pull drum out easy fix, vacuum out, and clean your discharge hose it's restricted and is causing your failure.

    • @WasherDryerMoney

A simple thing to check is to make sure it is getting full power. This may not be your problem but it’s a quick easy check. turn the breaker off and back on. Or safely use a multi meter to check how much power is going to the dryer. If the dryer is only receiving Full power the motor will still run but the heating element requires 220 and will not come on. This is a hard to diagnose problem for most people because the dryer seems to have power but it does not have full power.
