Icehouse, INXS, Pseudo Echo, Midnight Oil, AC/DC... Australia has a lot to be proud of in the world music scene - I'm a metalhead usually - but this is one helluva good song. From here in the States, 09.07.2022 - we're about to sack our nitwits that broke the world and then start having fun again. Fly the Southern Cross high and proud, Aussies!
@@flyingdutchman4794 I saw Icehouse for the second time in February this year. last time I was 23 in 1984 when I saw them. They were brilliant in February and it made me feel young again. I totally believe that those of us born in the 60's, grew up in the best time period for music. We had the influence of 50's and 60's music through our parents. The seventies, we heard through radio play, and records of our older siblings. Then the eighties where we were old enough to go out clubbing, and really appreciating, and looking forward to new music such as this song. We could also enjoy music from the nineties and beyond. Some songs would be stuck in your head forever. You hear a certain song, and it brings you back to the first time you heard it.
Born in '75 in Los Angeles. So grateful that KROQ fm played Icehouse. Back when radio meant something. Not just a corporate bleh conglomerate. Actual programme directors and DJs choosing music. Again, I'm grateful or else I wouldn't have heard bands from Australia like Icehouse or many of the groups from the UK and elsewhere.
57 here. WIMZ in Knoxville was playing this song in 87'. Surprised me because they were going classic rock which they are now. And i thought it was more Top 40 80's rock. Loved it since the first time I heard it back then. I was going through a, "growing up" period at 23 back then and starting college after a relationship. "I gotta pocket full of holes, head in the clouds, the king of fools" kind of hit me as a person in those days.
An Aussie Classic. I Love the start - it has that real 80's innocence/calm and realness about it - the real 80's vibe which kinda still feels like yesterday. It's just not like that now though. People are different. Fear ruins one. But things will improve one day
I had totally forgotten about Icehouse. I guess it's only been 30 years! 30, 40, or 50 as it may come to be...a real nice 80's moment for a middle aged guy who misses the good ol' days from time to time...

I'm almost 40 years old and just heard this beautiful song for the first time in my life tonight while shopping at CVS. It was fifteen minutes until closing time at 11 and I was the only person in the store.
😮.. so many memories (John & Bev Simmonds) you are responsible for my introduction to all these brilliant bands from down under in the early 80's, and they’ve lived with me throughout my life. In 1987 when I was sitting in my bedroom writing songs with crappy keyboards borrowed from school, I wanted to be this guy, and write like this guy 😁
This song defined the 80's for me and I began listening to music in the Sixties. It is still my favorite era and Icehouse gave us this beautiful gift to listen to.
This reminds me of my girlfriend and I in the 80's when we starting hanging out together in high school, she's my wife now for 30 years and I still play this song for her because she's got to be crazy to be with me......
I'm married to my high school boyfriend too, we met in 1987! This song also reminds me of that amazing, carefree time...fantastic that you married your hs sweetheart, too. Cheers
I'm from Europe but had a couple of years in Australia back in the day. Love the place. Lot's of great memories! I need to go back soon. Hard to explain the Australian "vibe" but I covered alot of ground down there and I fell in love with it.
It's not the same any longer, unfortunately. The past decade has seen the country lose itself against PC and woke culture. The Aussie spirit and "vibe" is dead. Our music industry is dead, our film industry, everything dead The people of the country keep fighting to stop the left wing woke globalist madness killing our country off but its just getting worse.
@@Huszooonlinestore What a shame. Lefties all over Europe as well. It's like poison running trough our veins. Hope the Aussies will manage to regain territory.
I bought this cassette tape after I heard this song on MTV. Pressed play and got on the Freeway and it was pedal to the metal! Dam it was awesome! Great memories of such amazing music! 80s baby! !
I forgot how good this song is. I used to love watching the repeat's of top of the pops. So you hardly ever hear songs like this. Class group. I miss the 80's.
I have no idea why I never heard of Icehouse until a few years ago...they're amazing. Easily in the same category as Tears For Fears or Duran Duran for absolutely quality pop music. They have no idea how to write songs of this quality any more. Love Icehouse :)
From the states, I think I heard "hey little girl" in 83 driving around Iowa. It is up to the radio stations to help the people get new music. Even the 80's stations are in a closed loop of what that era's music is. There is so much more great music from the 80's out there.
Listen to the song Street Cafe....video is so Duran Duran like!! You'll enjoy! Icehouse is a hauntingly beautiful vid/song too. Heck all of them are! I'm big TFF and DD fan too! Have a good day!🙂
@@oliviavaldez8961 Ah you have great taste in music :) At the moment 've left the 80's and headed back to the 70's to listen to Zeppelin and play More Than A Feeling and other powr rock tunes on my acoustic here :) Thanks for the message, nice talkin to you! :)
This takes me right back to being a 15 year old freshman in HS in 1987, having the best time of my life scoring goals for our soccer team, drinking with friends in the park on weekends and falling in love every other week thanks to songs like this. Only in the 80s. Ya had to be there to know it.
That is so awesome and I TOTALLY agree! I was the same age as you when I discovered Icehouse in the 80s. I think there's something about Iva Davies' music and lyrics that really rings true at every age. The "Man Of Colours" album is one of my favorites of all time and listen to it start to finish quite frequently 💕

This reminds me of my girlfriend and I in the 80's when we starting hanging out together in high school, she's my wife now for 30 years and I still play this song for her because she's got to be crazy to be with me......
Nice to hear that, good time's and memories
The 80's the best decade, for ever and ever!!!!
I'm married to my high school boyfriend too, we met in 1987! This song also reminds me of that amazing, carefree time...fantastic that you married your hs sweetheart, too. Cheers
Lawrence lol ha ha. Which city you from
@@laidback9249 I live in San Jose California
I'm from Europe but had a couple of years in Australia back in the day. Love the place. Lot's of great memories! I need to go back soon. Hard to explain the Australian "vibe" but I covered alot of ground down there and I fell in love with it.
And the music no doubt? 😉
@@deanjensen3657 Of course.
@@Underhills, I find it EXTREMELY easy to describe the Australian "vibe":
Brashness and arrogance.
1987 music memories in this song
I bought this cassette tape after I heard this song on MTV. Pressed play and got on the Freeway and it was pedal to the metal! Dam it was awesome! Great memories of such amazing music! 80s baby! !

The song was so amazing and still is.....
One wishes to be back in those years
Hoping to fall asleep and have some 80s dreams
I forgot how good this song is. I used to love watching the repeat's of top of the pops. So you hardly ever hear songs like this. Class group. I miss the 80's.
I just LOVE the MELODY of It All! In the 80s this AUSSIE Fresh Wind of Enchanting Music swept the Globe, especially the Northern Hemisphere!
I have no idea why I never heard of Icehouse until a few years ago...they're amazing. Easily in the same category as Tears For Fears or Duran Duran for absolutely quality pop music. They have no idea how to write songs of this quality any more. Love Icehouse :)
If you're not from Australia it makes sense, Icehouse were massive here aswell as Pseudo Echo
@@nickypoundtown9568 Pseudo Echo, eh? *searchsearchsearch
Davies has one of the most unique and beautiful voices Ive ever heard! Absolutely loved listening to him in the 80s.
So miss this kind of music, thankful to have grown up with music with meaning!
This takes me right back to being a 15 year old freshman in HS in 1987, having the best time of my life scoring goals for our soccer team, drinking with friends in the park on weekends and falling in love every other week thanks to songs like this. Only in the 80s. Ya had to be there to know it.
It was pretty rad
👍
Right there with you🙏🏼🤘
The best of times. I am so glad I was a teen in that era too. ❤
And making a mixed tape by waiting by the radio so you can record it. good times
Absolutely timeless song, still one of my all-time favourites all these years later.
Still sounds great in 2024 and beyond great song from Icehouse
I am almost 50 and I am still a huge ICEHOUSE fan. The soundtrack of my 7th grade year.
I laid down for a nap and woke up with this song in my mind. It had the most iconic Intro ever. I grew up in Canada in the 80's.
Allison. This was our song our in High School. Brings back so many great memories of us.❤️
Just heard this playing in the grocery store. Wow this brought back memories. A better time indeed.
The best music by the best of the 80s thank you ice house, 👍👍👍❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
This would chart right now in the USA, All the pop music we have sucks, help us out !!!!!!!!!!!
I was born in 2009 and can say icehouse is one of the most underrated bands ever, i love his music so much, its a timeless masterpiece!
Loved this. Loved the 80s. So many memories listening to these beautiful ballads 😊
Iva Davies....what a voice....great Australian Band ❤️ 🇳🇿 NZ
