Congrats to the ToneEmpire Team! This one sounds amazing. Sweet what it does to the transients and the stereo image. I tried it on the drum bus and the mix bus = instant Hi-Fi sound. Love it! Personally, I prefer one Wet/Dry Mix knob, I find it more intuitive and easy to work with.
very nice. I use Tapecomp and Fairchild [VC 660] from You. They make good work together for softcompression to drumbus [Tape] and liitle disto to synthpad [VC 660]. My interesse is to buy APX 351 for guitarres and snares. That's something [Pentode with 3rd, 5th harmonics and something little above] comperable with waves Kramer-Tape [using for pianos] and CFA-Sound Tube-Comp [synths without low-end] with little more extra roundy-highs without scratchy-disto most saturation-plugins are tending to.
I prefer the separate knobs for Dry and Wet signals, allows for more control and better balance between both signals. When are we going to see a SP-1200 plugin?
Personally, I prefer 1 control, wet/dry but I get the reason behind separate knobs. The reason I prefer that is workflow! It's what I'm used to and it doesn't require me to put much thought into it. I mix professionally and anything that requires me to break my focus to figure out how to get it to work right is a deficit. I didn't figure out the new knobs were just dry for several weeks after they got implemented (yes, I know it says "dry" but I just assumed it was still a wet/dry and you only put dry to save space) haha!! It's just not a very common thing to see. Sometimes you will see them separate (like in some LPX plugins) but they ALSO give you a wet control so it's not just dry alone. So I think that's where the confusion came from for me.
sounds nice, the gain also is very close good work there. when gain match is just volume up and volume down the same amount it never really works, the scaling you have here is just perfect. Softube has a match system that requires u click a button and it takes second and matches the gain. but this is that much faster :-) my one issue is it would be nice if y'all could get some non loops for the vids so we can here it on some more interesting material cheers
Nice sound!! (I prefer WET/DRY knob... because 95% of the other plugins I use, are configured in that fashion. But... why not offer BOTH wet/dry AND % as options, in a menu??) :)
I'm really liking this plug in. It's a real contender for one of the best tube emulations. But please sort out the level spikes, mutes, inaccessible presets, and crashy behaviour. Reaper win10.
i always prefer a control for drive - possibly independent of the input gain - i mean it should react to the signal gain variations, just like the real thing, but starting from a point dictated by the drive control, not the input rms value - it should mimic the reaction at different input gains - instead of varying the input gain, you vary the drive, and you should get the same results. this way, if you need to tweak the gain up chain, later on, it doesn't mess up your preamp sound, and doesn't require retweaking. i hope that makes sense. and, as much as possible the output should be automatically gain matched, so you can clearly hear what it does as you tweak it. as for a dry/wet knob i never saw the value in that, i think it's more of a fashion to automatically ask for it, cause "it's the 2020s". cause when you mix the dry in, the transients stay unprocessed, and the harshness will still be there. besides, a clean signal mixed with a very distorted signal never sounded good to my ears. i prefer to adjust the volume of the drive/saturation going in - or, even better, with a control, like i've said. on the other hand, if people insist on it, why not provide it, so you can spare yourself the questions, and not let that be perceived as a minus. as far as i'm concerned i never touch that knob - it's always on 100%. but it doesn't bother me in any way.
My point is, you shouldn´t have to have studio monitors for $5000 to be able to hear any difference. Are we mixing for ordinary people who listen on computer and cell phone speakers or for our selves?
@@kyronnewbury A question regarding this topic, have you tested Maat Audio Fidef (I think thats the name)? I can actually hear the effects of that plugin even with my studio monitors, BUT maybe the effect appears when using it on every channel. I don't know I just tested it for a minute.
I´m not listening through my Genelecs right now but my computer speakers (they aren´t bad) and I actually can´t hear any or a minimal difference. So whats the point?
You are never going to hear the difference (at least in any significant way) through computer speakers man. That's like trying to hear the difference on your phone. Saturation is a subtle thing. I can assure you there is a difference.
@@matt_nyc_audioengineer My point is, you shouldn´t have to have studio monitors for $5000 to be able to hear any difference. Are we mixing for ordinary people who listen on computer and cell phone speakers or for our selves?
It's not about how something sounds in solo bro. It's about how all the pieces fit together in a mix. It's not about how one track sounds, especially in solo. It's about how they all sound when put together. I don't think you understand, which is fine but there is absolutely a reason to use saturation.@@michaelwirth6843
@@michaelwirth6843 Hey, welcome, you might be new to mixing. If you have noticed most of the moves you do in mixing are very small. Sometimes a few DBs of gain in a place can change the entire feel of the mix. The big difference appears when you do a lot of small changes to get closer to the result. With each small move you get closer and closer, and believe me, they add up real quick. To check that, go on your channel and bypass the entire chain of plugins and see the huge difference you create with a lot of small changes. The learning part in mixing is to understand what you need and what each tool can bring to the table. Besides the technical part or audio engineering, mixing is art and you cannot learn art, so what you are actually learning is how to make you idea come to life using a lot of small changes and how to hear what each change does. There is no change that "doesn't matter" you just need to have the proper tools to hear it and the experience to judge it. Hope this helped :D
@@SanctusKain Nope I have been mixing for 25 years, but thanks your the insight. And yes details are very important in a mix and they all add up, just saying that sometimes we, as musicians, need to ask ourselves who we are mixing for. Is it for me or the public? I think many times we are stuck in some kind of placebo effect when we think that new plugin truly makes a difference and in the end when we listen to the demo and compare it to earlier versions of the same song there are NO difference at all. And even worse, when we use that new plugin on everything and we think that's an overall improvement but when listening to those earlier versions it´s obvious the mix maybe was a bit heavier but the 3D and the dynamics were gone. Is mixing an art? Maybe. Can´t you learn an art? Of course you can. You may not learn how to paint as Leonardo da Vinci cause that kind of skills is just not there but to twist a few knobs it´s way easier. There are only three obstacles, how should music sound (what's pleasing to our ears), the knowledge of our tools (how does a compressor work) and how can we use the knowledge of our tools to get a pleasing result.
No , you’re right , the demo I’ve done here is subtle change . I’m reacting to people asking for very slight change they want to hear , this unit does sound sweet and saturated when pushed , this can be heard better on our other video which is an audio demo only :)
Incredible, this plugin sounds best on the bypass!

Is this live Analog sampled
With the convolution technology from the actual unit?

very good, thank you

gotcha :) will do
Wet/Dry knob for me. It's more of a standard, so people are more used to them. Plus it saves time.

that saturation not he bass with hard drive, so fluffy and nice.
Ok now I have demoed this preamp on an electric guitar and I actually like it! 😃A lot more presence and 3D.
Gracias ! 😊
