In case you missed the community post, the original video was age-restricted because of "explicit content". So, I'll ask the same question: Did the pansexual companions, hilariously diverse world, and countless "strong female characters" break your immersion? Next video will probably be "Immersion is DEAD", a sequel to Escapism is Dead from earlier this year.

Dont get me wrong, i love this game, but finally someone who criticizes this game for its flaws, because so many are just blinded by the hype. I mean i have two playthroughs, that i heavily enjoyed, but i had so many bugs/ problems, that only could be solved by save scumming or replaying the entire scene. If that would have happened in an Activision game the hate train would be endless.
Finally, someone says it! This game is good but it is not perfect, nor was it a fully finished, polished, bug-free game at launch either like so many people like to claim. There is a lot of blind hype around BG3 and the only reason no one is calling out the issues with this game is because of the narrative around Larian and how they're showing "terrible AAA devs how it's done." Game has a bunch of issues specifically in Act 3 with the poor optimization, glitches, and unresolved questlines (like Minthara's). Not to mention the fact that there isn't really 17,000 endings in BG3 like how Larian claimed there to be. They're all just kinda cosmetic variations of a select set of endings. If BG3 was the exact same as it is today, but it had Bethesda/Todd Howard's name slapped on it, people would say Todd lied yet again about the endings and they'd be making "17,000x the endings" jokes for eternity. But because it's Larian, it's a-okay. Like you said, though, if BG3 was made by any disliked AAA company instead of Larian, people would be rightfully calling out its issues. But they're aren't because of the blind hype surrounding the game.

Well, activision does have way more money than larian, and bg3 is incredibly bigger in all possible ways than most games out there, so for the size of the game and the money they had to make it, i guess its pretty solid
@@mateus.cupertino Okay, that makes it more understandable but that doesn't excuse it though. Did people excuse Cyberpunk for being a buggy mess at launch just because CDPR was an independent company that didn't have the backing of a multi-billion dollar corporation or because the game was a graphical powerhouse?
@jimmythegamer2231 Cyberpunk actively misled people into thinking the game was more than what it was, and attempted to suppress its short comings prior to launching. Only recently with Phantom Liberty did the game live up to some of its hype. While I agree BG3 was buggier than I liked, I personally did not hit any serious issues, and the game mostly achieved what it set out to be. I think the reason BG3 is getting a pass is simply because Larian made a much better, good faith effort to make a good game than what we see with current game dev practices. This caused people to be more forgiving with Larian as per the overwhelming positve reviews just about everywhere you look. Turns out that goodwill goes a long way.
It's funny how the game journalist sucking this game off for having the weird things they like are the same ones that hate Japanese games with attractive women or Japanese games in general.
Astarion is a good example of how you can make a gay/bi character and make his sexuality part of his personality. Bisexual characters were a thing in RPGs as long as I can remember, but bisexual characters who constantly hit on the player for no reason was super cringe.

That is scientific fact. Humanity did not begin with white people or white skin. All humans started out with brown skin. You're beyond retarded if you think white elves and dwarves who LOOK EXACTLY like human white people WHO themselves evolved from homosapiens from Africa would exist, and not go through the very same genetic mutations and evolution to get to the state white people are now. YOU don't exist without the genetic diversity of the human race, NONE of your mutations and traits exist that evolution, without Africans migrating out of Africa. No, bro. Neer dying in the cave IS on a "long rest" timer. The timer starts when you speak with his female dwarf sergeant. Or captain, or whatever she is. And you can get a bunch of the Duegar to join you against him. I think there's a lot of choices in this game that you think aren't choices. Some are VERY difficult to pull off because they rely on much more than just dialogue choices.
I've seen a few reviews criticise the game not having choice when the reviewer was at fault. I think people aren't as creative as they imagine themselves to be.
I'm amazed this dude has so many views and likes, given how many things he is wrong about on a consistent basis. Apparently bitching about things "being woke" is enough to be a popular video game reviewer nowadays. At least he is honest about his low T, I guess.
I assume it would but I feel like I left Nere locked in that poison for ages. Dude was waiting ages as I killed all the under dwarfs and explored the underdark... maybe if you long rest twice at grymforge he dies
I don't care how well made of an RPG this might be, I refuse to buy this trash purely based on how Larian and the fanbase of this game promote degeneracy/fetish content while casting fanservice as problematic.
One point where you are absolutely right, is that there is no point in having all those races like elves and gnomes and asians and blacks living together. The different races is what makes a fantasy adventure exciting and it can be a base for many interesting stories.
Your fun and artistic expression ends the moment it offends the cult of progress and their political agendas. But this is totally not inhumane towards artists and art itself, not at all. All it costs is the soul of absolutely everything and everyone, making everything drab, homogenous (ironically), pastiche, like a pile of odorless puke, at least everything is mixed together and it doesn't offend anyone.
The Original BG had demihuman races peppered around, mainly in towns and especially in the main city, but it was still majority human. The most numerous were probably elves, especially in the 2nd game where you visit one of their cities. There was a little town of entirely halflings too. There were also only 2 Asians in both BG1 and 2, Tamoko and Yoshimo, and they were foreigners who came from the Forgotten Realms equivalent of Asia, Kara-Tur.

I'm surprised you didn't criticize the voice options in the character creator. They don't fit with the half-orcs at all and limit the experience a bit because none of them are particularly different from each other.
A note about combat. Everyone needs a ranged option, because wasting your turn dashing into enemy fire is a good way to die. But if you're a strength build, you *don't* want a crossbow. Those add dex to attack and damage. Go for thrown weapons instead. That has changed my playstyle entirely. Not only can you add strength to attack and damage with a javelin or a throwing ax, but height as well. If you're standing on a rooftop, you can literally throw your underwear at an opponent, *miss*, and knock them back and kill them. I've done it.
I still have no idea what the point of playing this game is outside of kicking squirrels and yanking it... Not necessarily at the same time but if that's your fancy then go right ahead, we're not "supposed" to kink shame
"Drops off hard in act 3"? Sounds like a typical Larian game. Divinity II Ego Draconis has no ending, just stops midway through, and leaves its expansion, Flames of Vengeance, to kind of add an ending to the story. Original Sin 1 told a very small story, and with the Enhanced Edition, it's actually not too bad, but while the first map and the second map (act 1 and act 2) have a great deal of interesting content, the final map was a bit sparse; and Original Sin 2's third act-also containing the only major city in the game, by the way-felt rushed, unfinished, and pretty bad in general. They released a "definitive edition" that apparently rewrites that entire part of the story, but I've not played it. I thought this game would be a departure from the standard Larian tropes because of WotC, but perhaps I was wrong. Now on to Baldur's Gate proper, the level cap being 12 sounds very annoying. I see there's already a mod that raises it though (multiclassing only), which sorts that problem out. On the other hand, a short excursion to the nexusmods page has already given me cancer, so perhaps mods aren't going to be this game's salvation. I'll still give it a shot. On the "free version", so at least the sunken costs will be smaller. Cheers for the review, man.
it really does "boo hoo we cant make your character above lvl 12, its too much and makes you too op!" how about.. you dont create broken items then? being more powerful and able to cast 7th or 8th level spells would have been so cool instead of looking up and leveling correctly for some build for a whole hour thats just confusing.
I love this game. By far the biggest problem with the game is character appearance customization, which has a bigger impact on my enjoyment of the game than I would think. I'm glad you called it out. Why did they put so much work into making an asian orc face or 6 different types of dicks, but not creating even ONE voice that is fitting for a fantasy dwarf character. Please show me one actual RPG fan that gives a damn about representing different real-life human sexualities and races in a fantasy RPG, instead of just crafting a character that is believable in a fantasy setting.
Shout out to modders, without them i wouldn't be able to have my tav looking like i want them to, there like 6 faces in the entire game the mocap thing was a bad idea
this character creation is actually inferior to Skyrim even, with like 14 faces and sliders, the body slider was also better suprisingly. that game came out in 2011 or 13 years ago, a whole generation im not a modder but honestly, add a slider for faces, height, body type (fat, muscular, skinny.. how tf is gale so buff but at 8 STR?)
10:53 Actually, you are spot on. I saw numerous times leftards saying to a girl who is short that she doesn't deserve love because she resembles a child. This girl was 26 years old Asian and 5'0". In their eyes, short people don't deserve love because you are a "creep" if you do it with a small person.
Well I've actually been attacked for it personally. About eight years ago i went on some dates with a person who was born with achondroplasia(dwarfism) and people actually either made fun of us or straight out harassed us. We did however stop dating, not because of the harassment but because we didn't really 'click'... i just don't see what the problem was, he's a wonderful person and we are still friends. He don't look like a child except the height(he's 124 cm or a bit over 4(?) feet) and he clearly looks like a short adult.
All that just to justify your Asian housewife fantasies. You really want to catch yourself one, don't you? Keep saving money, who knows, maybe one day you'll fly one out for yourself. You can do it buddy. The made up stories though? Kinda weird.
The defence squad for this game is absurd. in Steam Discussions, making any point that the party members are such persistent horn dogs so fast gets you shit on into oblivion.
Consoomerism at its worst . Combine that with horniness and you get an ugly result that reflects no personality but pure impulsive idiocy of a collective waste .
Yeah it's immersion breaking and at times disgusting but probably what Larian thought would be in line with the idea of unbridled choices. Easy enough to turn characters down.

It wasn't just articles, but the developers themselves that were unhappy about people making the "generic white male" in the beta. This was a huge red flag for me, and from then on I had a feeling the game would be ultra "progressive." Now with the release of the game it seems that I was right. And I'm sure I'm not the only one who called it so long ago. Honestly, if larian spent a few seconds thinking about why most people went that route with the character creation they wouldn't have whined like babies. You'd have to be some kind of brain-dead NPC to not understand why. So for those of you who fit into that category (and there sure are a lot of Synthetic Man haters who fit that to a tee), let me fill you in: - Majority of the world's population, including white people, are still straight - Most people who still play video games (traditional games, not casual titles like candy crush and wordle) will be males - Baldur's Gate is a western RPG franchise, i.e. land of mostly white people - Games are made in North America, i.e. land of mostly white people - Heavily based on European medieval fantasy, i.e. land, history, culture and folklore of overwhelmingly white people - An RPG is a ROLE-PLAYING GAME, so naturally a fair portion of the players will create characters that resemble themselves Larian complaining about this is like the equivalent of one of tencent's developers whining that in a beta for an upcoming MMO based heavily on Chinese mythology, a majority of the players created straight Asian males and not something else. Of course that won't happen because the Chinese currently do not suffer from the kind of brain-rot that makes them hate their own kind, unlike almost all North American and European studios.
One part of the gameplay i didn't like, sometimes the game would take you out of turn based when you suspected something was going to happen. And it wouldn't tell you, so while you're looking at what you should do, an effective turret is killing ur party. Also why would you have a continuous time setting but no pause button? They probably should have looked at Pillars of Eternity to handle these situations. PoE is only continuous time, but there is a lot of automatic pausing so you can react like it's table top. If they set it where a trap is detected/triggered or anything dangerous, it immediately goes to turnbased.
@ni9274 if they did exist, that's not the issue. To me it just seems like a character that was created to look so out there. I didn't believe it was in the game originally.

I don't play much D&D but from what I've heard about 5e, I think what you were saying about the combat actually sounds consistent with the game. Clerics are wildly powerful, and all martials NEED a ranged weapon of some kind (javelins or hand crossbows). There's an inherent problem with going down/taking damage to 0 hitpoints and getting back up with 1 heal, which I call the Darkest Dungeon approach to health (death's door). It makes any healing at all extremely viable for keeping people alive indefinitely but never good enough for actual sustain.
Yep, the classic D&D experience - in low levels the D20 far exceeds any AB vs AC you/enemies have so it feels completely random, missing more than you like, and casters grow exponentially from useless to overpowered, since they raise BOTH caster level (spell power/duration) AND number of spell slots with each level up. Maybe it's less apparent in realtime with pause, but the same problems have plagued D&D since forever I would imagine. 3D6 like in GURPS give a much better bell curve distribution of dice rolls. You COULD limit number of rest as character level increases (so longer between spell slots restored and martial hit points) but it's a bandaid on a system that needs lots of DM hand-holding/tailoring.

This horror fest gave me a renewed appreciation of Mass Effect companions: 1. They were actual characters with their own important and pressing priorities. Each of them was there to do their job first and foremost. Relationship with Shepard was secondary. 2. They were mature people. Aside from Liara, none of them fell for Shepard at the first sight. It took time for relationship, platonic or not, to develop. 3. They had realistic and clear sexual preferences. For example, if you played as male Shepard, Garrus had no desire or intention to hit on you and vice versa. 4. They knew that attraction does not have to result in sex. Even with romancable companions it was mostly about building up friendship and camraderie, romance was just an option afterwards. 5. They had enough self-respect not to throw themselves at you and just hint they are interested. Liara is a notable exception, but her blunt behavior is normal for her race and she backed off if you asked her to. 6. Because they were subtle you had options to politely tell them that you are not interested and they did not bother you again. 7. There was a broad range of personalities to choose from if you wanted romance after all. If you wanted feminine women, there were Liara, Tali and Kelly. If you wanted more masculine ones, there were Ashley, Miranda and Jack. 8. Despite the tough exterior, masculine women were actually feminine on the inside, Ashley and Jack especially (YMMW on Miranda, I never romanced her). 9. Dialogue wheel allowed you to tailor your approach. You could be more of a Paragon Nice Guy or more of a Renegade alpha and that shaped the romance. 10. ME3 added new well-written homosexual characters (Cortez and Traynor) for those who missed those options. IMO, it was a good compromise. Kaidan coming out as bi wasn't. 11. Sex scenes did not reveal too much and had respect for the characters. It was about expression of their feelings, not about porn. 12. Relationships and sex were very much vanilla. If you can't live without kinky stuff, you could easily headcanon it (with Kelly especially) as a part of the overall vanilla relationship.
No way somebody just said the dialogue wheel was good. I played through all three of them home boy, and a menu is literally just a change in form factor from the perimeter of a circle to a list format. Telling you rn, if there’s a mod for Bethesda style dialogue in ME Legendeary Edition it’s my first priority prior to replay.
Are all the gods in Baldur's Gate female? Almost everyone in a position of authority is a woman, and even the general population of the world seems to be majority female.
Not really... I guess that's just the one's they put in this game. If you want a line up for female gods Pillars gots you covered. I didn't even really notice it until my second playthrough through Pillars 2.
While I understand that the devs wanted to please everyone with all companions being able to be romanced by the player, having some of them be straight Or even have race preferences would have added to the replay ability imo
@@Cobyba I still remember one old mod for Neverwinter Nights 2. In that module, you have a female companion, a possible romance option, but if you are elf / half-elf, though luck. Not her preference. Dunno, never bothered me. Imo it added more replayablity if I ever decided to replay mod.
The right answer is to make the majority of companions straight, and one male and one female (not straight). It makes no logical sense to have everyone gaeh, and if they want it, they always have mods or they can go watch "corn". I would remove romance from gaming completely because it's just ridiculous, the only romance allowed is Arthur saving his girlfriend from Lucifer and receiving a "congraturations" screen at the end, that's how it should be, modern gamers are a complete joke.
@@Cobybawhat they did was make the beautiful lady gay. The easiest way to anger people is locking them away from the natural relationship, it feels like the game is punishing you. Ive been playing as an incredible racist and staunch paladin. basically think maga with a mace. I think you can dodge all the astroturfed crap by making your character be based.
Giving everyone everything they think they want is the fast track to mediocrity and ho-hum. Dragon Age: Origins is still the best example for how to do this genre well, especially romances... if you're a dude king Alistair is either your best bro or treats you as a necessary evil, if you're a woman it's either the same or IF you're human then marriage is maybe on the table but if you're an elf you can have romance but not marriage because yeah, no, the people are not going to accept an elven queen, tfb deal. They have all these "options" in the character creator, but the dialog options seem stuck at one setting. Leave aside being gay or not, why IS everyone so horny? Even if certain players want that type of experience, could there not be slider for limiting that in the dialog options? There are sliders for other nonsense. If making everyone feel represented, why not this? Why can't you bond with your party without immediatley going to a sex scene. The only answer has to be they are too lazy to add nuance to the dialog at all. So hate or sex is all there is. That seems the most offputting aspect about this game.
"Why can't you bond with your party without immediatley going to a sex scene". Dude, just say "no" lmao. But they are horny if you are nice to them. You are right. I have watched stream of the girl, who didn't get laid by no one in the night of celebration. Funniest sh*t, when you know how horny your party is
you're right, it's p much impossible to bond with companions without romancing them. whenever i romance one companion, all the others are like... softlocked ghosts of themselves. it's annoying because it makes it feel less like a band of people slowly becoming friends and more like an entire camp thirdwheeling the main character and their fantasy wife/husband. i wish you could have platonic scenes with characters, ironically like you can with gale and his weave scene. it'a not an inherently romantic scene (aside from his line about blah blah we could've been more-which they should absolutely remove), but it feels like one of the only ones in the whole game.
I really liked your point about levels of NPCs. It feels so strange to kill the apostle of the freaking god of death only to then get beat up in Act 3 by complete randoms, that are somehow higher level, than him.
The progression of enemies is really bad in this game. Progression is just bad in general. A level one character surviving in a Nautaloid that is flying around in Avernus??? Makes zero sense. Even fighting Githyanki at level 5 or 6 makes little sense...
lvl 8 characters everywhere in BG last act is so retarded. there should be a thousand at most (in a collosal city, in this game the number cant be replicated and shows very few places, should be 50 max).. all the villains are also somehow neighbours instead of far away and hidden properly

Act III reminded me of Dragon Age II where the entirety of the game takes place in like three locations and half of it is in a city. Nothing wrong with a big city, but you can't have an entire act taking place exclusively in a single city and its outskirts... Also quests like the one where you try to find the clown's different body parts could have been omitted. One of the most obnoxious quests with a shitty reward.
Exact same here. The main story's suspense kept me going through Act1 & 2, but by Act3 all the little immersion breaks compounded along with a hodgepodge city environment which I don't find interesting at all. Doubt I'll ever finish the game at this point since it's been over a year.
My biggest issue with the ending is how unrewarding it feels for your Tav. Everyone gets some special ending (Wyll, becomes the Grand Duke, Astarion can become a Vampire Lord, Shadowheart can become a Dark Justiciar or redeem herself from Sharr, Gale becomes a freaking God), but you basically do nothing at the end, everyone just gives you a pat on the back and that's basically it.
I knew they were flying too close to the sun by attempting to add JRPG-esque presentation to a CRPG. No wonder why they needed to sell their soul to BlackRock to keep the game at a single $60 price tag. Should’ve been two games.
@@geoDB. They've always been woke. Go play Divinity: Dragon Commander and you'll see what I mean. They're not a publicly traded company, so ESG is meaningless to them. @@kvant13 Yeah. They also hid the woke stuff during Early Access, or a portion of it anyway. Rather sleazy. It’s interesting to me how much shit this game gets away with when SE admitted they had an ethics committee to make sure tifa’s boobs weren’t too large.
Japanese games used to have females just there as a pornographic tool, original tifa was just a joke, so I understand that. Japan for a long time was the opposite side of the woke coin to the point it was embarrassing even for straight non woke people. So having more normal and still feminine females is good. Tifa in the remake is fine.
They bring back Viconia, make her evil, and force you to kill her? Huh, that's weird. I wonder why? Anyway on a completely unrelated note, her portrait in Baldur's Gate 2 was traced from a Czech supermodel, and she was by far the most popular romance option for male players. EDIT: To head off any more replies along these lines, yes, I am very aware that in BG1 and 2 her D&D alignment is Neutral Evil. That's not what I meant by "make her evil". And also, yes, someone mentioned you can technically not kill her, but this is functionally irrelevant story-wise.
@@mrstealyourgirl3638 If there is an option to not kill her, I can't find any videos of it. Every one I've seen ends with her being killed. Regardless that's not really the point, they really did her character dirty and I can't help but have a pretty likely theory as to why.
@@mrstealyourgirl3638 Yeah Sarevok got shafted pretty bad too (and his part in the story makes no sense, he loses the Bhaal taint when he's resurrected which is the entire reason he decides to help you in BG2 since he thinks he can basically become your right hand when you ascend), and also his new voice actor is awful. Kinda surprised, honestly. You'd think they would have portrayed him more positively, for obvious reasons.
An absolute coincidence I'm sure. Whenever things like this happen it's completely organic, it's you pointing it out that's abnormal. Gaslighting parasites.
@@mrstealyourgirl3638 By default you wont "kill" her initially once her life drops to 0. She will be "knocked down", and you can initiate a conversation with her. You either let her go (which also oddly enough will have no implications to the rest of the game. She is gone for good), or kill her (she will drop some cool loots). So yea you are encouraged to kill her since there is no reward if you let her go. And yes Act 3 is undercooked especially with all the hype and buildup of the companion quests especially Shadowheart's.
Why does everything have to be a dating sim? Why isnt simply being friends with someone an option? Is camaraderie dead? Can we have an RPG where you just kill orcs for once?
Depends on the game. I like romance in my sprawling epics... if it's done right. But most things aren't done right these days so romance inevitable falls in there too.
@@dorugoramon0518 Baldur's Gate always had romance since the first game. How is Baldur's Gate 3 any different and bad? I enjoy the romances in Baldur's Gate 3. And why do you want to kill an Orc in an RPG?
BTW, the reason they used the same sized heads on all the characters is so they could use the same skeletal rigs and animations on all of them. I'm pretty sure there's only one for everything - there might be female and male versions (though not of the anims, so I'm not even sure of that). It's purely a tech/scope issue.
This is very true as there's a scene early on where a PC (if you're playing co-op) will randomly be selected to appear on screen in a cutscene with them slumping down due to feeling ill. If you're playing a Dragonborn, you literally stick your hand into your face if you go with "trace the curves of your lips." It's hilarious, but also very much an indication that the human/tiefling models were likely used for everything. Good scene overall and well voiced by Lar'zels VA, but still, a little immersion breaking if you're playing something like a Dragonborn.
The rigging process is not my strong suit, but I’m pretty sure they can just move the bones around and reuse rigs for different meshes. It’s all about weights (weight painting)
For gortash, just throw the bombs, they do so much damage compared to anything you can do. For the orin unstoppable fight, upcast magic missile, it has independent hits per magic dart so you can knock out all unstoppable charges at once.
This game has too many girl bosses. Almost every human faction has a girl boss leader/captain. Very Immersion breaking with all this virtual signalling.
You're wrong about the Gith machine. If you pick the wrong shit in that machine, you can get a permanent debuff, and if you choose correctly, you get a permanent buff.
Act 2 actually made me sick to an extent. The fact that you're forced to save and help the hamfisted plot relevant gay couple (That are the pinnacle of all that is good, mind you) against the evil straight white man who is constantly belittled by every person around him if you want to do the good path drained something from my soul. I skipped so much dialogue nearing the end of that act, it was so tiring.
Yeah. All the post boss cutscenes of Act 2 were draining. Getting Shadowheart to leave the darkness behind was really cool but the forced "unquestionably good" lesbo stuff rubbed me the wrong way too.
I don't care if the game is a decent CRPG. I will not financially support a company (mostly Wizards of the Coast) that hates my guts and wants me dead. I will torrent this shit first, after playing every other CRPG in my backlog.

Shadowheart was getting flirty with Karlach, Gale, Astarion and Wyll in my playthrough. It was obnoxious to hear but considering later events the player learns it's just doubly disappointing.
To be fair later on, if you romance a charecter, they get some more "wholesome" bants. Like for example, Wyll saying he would like to babysit Shadowhearts and player characters children, for example.
I'm not surprised at all, BG3 has no competition like Elden Ring People are saying that Starfield will be great but I wonder why people still have faith in Bethesda after F76
22:19 Wyll is boring, but out of all the companions he's actually the most well written one. Usually having to choose between a rock and a hard place, and has himself hooked to a demon. An interresting duo.
@@ibrahimalee23 I avoided him for the longest time but ended up coming to like his character once after he invaded my camp and joined my party. He's flawed but is relatable.

Why does everyone in this game speak like they drink starbucks and use a MacBook to post on twitter? Have the writers never read any fantasy series that isn't twilight or harry potter?
Well when you make a game you put a little bit of yourself in it, you know like personality wise etc, so they talk like that because the people who made the game are probably from California 😂.
Fun fact: When you first encounter Gale reaching his hand through the portal, he's actually trying to find a donger to grab onto, _and remember that Dark Urge can cut his damn hand off._
Whenever I play a left-leaning game, I end up never capitalizing on any of the romantic options because none of them ever appeal to me. Cyberpunk is a good example. Went completely asexual on my first playthrough without even realizing it.
I knew I was gonna groan with companions in this game, and wouldn't you know it - I found Karlach the worst. It's just the dialogue. I knew it would be all heccin' wholesome, foul, and degen. So much of that with the companions. It just turns me off when you have these companions in games. You get to a point where they're so diverse, so different, it just snaps the suspension of disbelief in half. I mean I've been in workplaces 20x more homogenous than these reddit tier RPG parties and the people could barely work together a shift without someone having a meltdown. Yet it's still this "we all come together and save the world." Just tired of it.
@@Crosroad Don't think that's what he was getting at. Naturally, people, especially different people of upbringing and culture end up having disagreements or confrontations. RPG games these days dont embody that realistic part of humanity anymore, it's just happy go lucky and romance. Really off putting, like the game was made to cater to children but also has the most degenerate sexual sht you can imagine.
The illusion held for most of the game for me. I rarely get immersed in rpg's these days but I was till the rushed ending. Unfortunately the game is not as replayable as it seems and your choices have a lot less consequences than it first appears. I do wish BG3 was more like its 2 predecessors in a world building sense also, but what we got is really the best we can hope for these days.
Act I and II are pretty repayable since the latest patch which addressed performance issues, I can't say the same for Act III though, still buggy as fuck with a rushed storyline but at least Larian is trying to improve the game. Unlike other AAA developers who never cared to fix their damned games.
BG3 is as good as a highly cinematic game can get due to budget and time. If you want hugely divergent plot in a CRPG you need to try Wrath of the Righteous. Otherwise table top.
@@VarthalabauHair I mean, good for them - but this game was sold on not being an unfinished mess. On having polish. On not rushing out a game like AAA studios do. It's none of that.
30:28 this is so true. I ditched him as soon as i could get hirelings, because i learned that he did not teach you magic but just wanted to get inside your pants. Fast forward midway into the game and all of a sudden dude leaves behind a message telling me he wants to bang, even though i had no interaction with him. (i sacrificed him to bhaal)
I hate how bombastic the opening is, especially for a level 1 character. BG1 had you fight a 90 IQ loser as your first enemy, and there was a decent chance he'd actually kill you if you bumble fucked your way through character creation. IWD had you clear clear out goblins and orcs with a full party, IWD2 stepped it up and had you defending a town from a goblin siege, but those are all grounded and appropriately dangerous encounters for a low level party. Larian was a bad fit for Baldur's Gate; and most of the people I've seen who loved this game either never played the originals, or actually hate them.
It feels so weird. Prologue is about mind flayers and demons on a airship, then you drop into a jungle with basic goblin enemies to fight. It seems modern audience can't handle a slow start (á la Baldur's Gate 1)
@@misterkefir it's level 12 because if they went any higher then they would have to incorporate spells that would literally break the game. Like wish, shape change, plane shift, etc.
Out of curiosity, are you talking about the fight to save Gwydian? I am playing through DOS2 for the first time, and just did that fight last night. If it isn't the "Oil Fight" you are referring to, I will be worried. Haha.
The haunted house was one of I think two quests I intentionally skipped (for a similar reason I forgot which it was though). I had to completely force quit the game and load a save because I didn't feel like waiting literal minutes for the cpu to finish its turn. One of the better games I've played recently recently but that quest is completely ludicrous lol
I agree, I would add a shitty ending. Larian, as always, made the choice that determines the ending in the final dialogue, literally from two choices that are not affected by whether you ate the larvae or your relationship with the characters. At the end, they even regretted the slides, as in the PF, there is no sensible afterword. But it's still one of the best RPGs of the last 5 years.
Which really shows how sub par the indusry has been over the past decade really. Imagine eating chicken and rice since 2012 and then you eat fillet steak, it's going to taste like nectar.
Divinity series much better. Divinity original sin 2. Baldurs gate 1 and 2 are oretty good if ya havent tried there is also a amall series of othee regions.
Wrath of the Righteous is still the best CRPG to come out in the last 5 years. That game's plot hits such incredible highs. BG3 is still a great game though.
The articles claiming this game made other game devs upset because it has an "unprecdenented level of polish" is so farcical, it has to have been some elaborate marketing scheme. Quests would break even as early as act 1, the game would set off flags for choices you didn't make, dead getting NPCs revived for cutscenes (another incorrect flag), and the actual gameplay bugs get really bad at higher levels (which game journalists will never play to). You'd have cases where your reaction attack will give the opponent a free attack instead (again, an incorrect flag), NPC AI breaking when during non-combat mode and you have a summoned companion with you, and I had one where my character was able to move while the enemy was stuck in a dialogue with me so he was just frozen indefinitely as I setup an "ambush". This game is amateurish, but still probably the most enjoyable game of 2023.
Jfc. I'm glad Devs are scrambling, even if it's fictitious. Still, I fail to understand how a game which was in dev for 15+ (not really) years can still have so many bugs.
That is indeed interesting. I bailed out and deleted this pile of crap after the celebration camp in mid-act 1. It performed really well - my cooling fan didn't start even once, which is surreal - every other game kicks it off - even games from 4 years ago. Perhaps that's the polish they are talking about? If the are talking about storytelling and companion relationships polish.... I REALLY want to have whatever it is they are smoking.
I've sent in like 100 bug reports before ever venturing out of the starting area (before the depths). Act 3 was a mess. There was no ending. Relationships were also called 'the best ever' and 'unlike bioware' despite bioware having done the same thing (Morrigan) and better since DA:O. Shadowheart was also a straight up bioware romance (sex as reward). This game was just so lied about, it's unreal.
Hey so, this is kind of entirely unrelated to this video, but I just quickly wanted to thank you for your content overall! It's actually been very entertaining to watch for me, been going through some stuff as of late, so seeing a small channel like yours actually be relatively active with some very interesting takes overall on gaming (that I also do definitely share) does really help a lot. Just wanted to quickly leave a comment, in all honesty I don't really tend to comment on most videos I watch here on UA-cam like at all. So take that as you will. You're actually super entertaining to watch and I love your takes on almost well every single videogame in existence, I am not really a big fan or supporter I'd say of modern gaming and I think it feels very lifeless and it has been bloated for quite a bit. So hearing your thoughts on stuff being pretty much very different from most other takes online is very refreshing! So just wanted to say, thank you.
Synthetic Man is an absolute joke of a human being, so not sure why you consider his content great. Though at least this video is one of the few vids on UA-cam that actually have the balls to criticize BG3. But still, he's mostly terrible, this vid is an exception. Then again, you are one of those depressed fools who pretends as if modern video games are all terrible when in reality most video games are actually good. Shocker, I know.
22:10 funny thing is, I ended up never recruiting Wyll because I didn't think he was a playable character, and I usually try to do all the companion quests in games.
Damn 😂 but there’s a bunch of stuff you can miss out on without interacting which is funny. I’m a gamer that loves interacting with every lil detail so I was all set but I love hearing stories about how people missed out on half the party lol
Been playing through it myself, having a blast. Concerning Isobel, I was playing a Thief Rogue the whole time. My Dexterity is at 19 which pretty much means my character is pushed to the very top of the Initiate list. First thing I did was put Wyvern venom on my weapons and did Sneak Attack on Flaming Fist Marcus. Needless to say, he wasn't able to heal or recover from that. I also happened to respec Shadowheart from Trickster Domain to Light Domain which was immensely helpful against the demons. From what I've determined, Rogues are extremely OP in 5e. I was able to assassinate almost every NPC solo during Act I as a Thief Rogue through repeated Sneak Attacks. I'm also playing a Male Githyanki which gives my Rogue the option of wearing Medium armor and currently dual-wielding Shortswords. I was going to romance Karlach at first, but Shadowheart won me over. I guess I'm a Normie after all. Still working through Act II at the moment...
Just to note, the reason why this game has races like Half-elf is purely because they're trying to hug as close as possible to the player's handbook, with very minor alterations to make it video game compatible. Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 did the same thing with 3rd edition D&D. Half elves are actually pretty good on their own for tabletop, notorious for being a power-gaming race because it's really strong. I will agree that humans are not great in this game since they don't have access to the variant human which allows you to pick an extra feat at level 1, but I'm assuming you are already familiar with this. Dragonborns are also deceptively strong since they get an innate damage resistance towards whatever main element their color gets them, and can do fair AOE elemental reaction damage for classes that might struggle with AOE potential.
Baldurs Gate 1&2 were 2e, not 3e. But both introduced 3e classes (bard in 1, sorcerer in 2). However, the core-systems behind the scenes were still 2e, and so these classes were converted into 2e's system. In 3E, both those classes scale off CHA, that's not the case in BG1\2. Spells do not scale in BG1\2, they're either static, or scale off spell-levels. The only thing INT does, is grant access to higher spell-levels, however the min-INT stat for Bard is 13, which grants access to Level 6 (highest bards can go), meaning Bards don't need that. No spell, or effect scales off CHA, making CHA useless as well for Bards (beyond thematics), and instead Dex\CON is the better stats. Wizards need INT due to afformentioned spell-levels. You need a min of 18 INT to get accesss to 9th level spells. Sorcerer - Hardcoded spell-gains based on levels, as thus, doesn't need INT, and since spells do not scale, and CHA is an practically useless stat in BG1\2, primary stat of sorcerer is DEX (lower AC, higher hit-chance with projectile weapons), and CON (survivability).
@@SknCommonLisper While sorcerers were not a thing until 3rd ed, Bard goes back to the original D&D, though introduced in supplemental sources rather than the player's handbook. In AD&D 1st, they were in the back of the handbook as a specialized option for humans and half-elves and required fairly high stats. In AD&D 2nd, they are in the "rogue" section of the player's handbook (also limited to human and half-elf, as well as having high stat requirements). The Baldur's gate series used the 2nd Edition "Complete Bard's Handbook" rules for the bard. They also used the source books in the "Complete Handbook" series for many classes, including barbarian, assassin, and monk (which appeared in the second game).
Honestly every other companion with the exceptions of La’Zeal, Shadowheart, Karlach and Wyll were annoying to the point where I actively screwed them over in their personal quests which is a shame because Larian actually nailed nearly all the companions perfectly in DOS2 (aside from Beast, who was disappointingly lame) and it doesn’t help that they are all down bad horrendous for your PC not long after meeting them. And that’s not bearing in mind the other questionable moments that come up with the other NPC’s, which makes me glad that I went for a Dark Urge playthrough first.
I *LOVE* *IT* when games let you mistreat your companions like that. Like in Outer Worlds, you can cock-block Parvati. Idk if it's sad or funny that the companions you shaft don't abandon you tbh.
@@DarksideGmss0513difference is Minthara is pretty much an evil companion, especially considering what you have to do to unlock her and the fact she is on the side of the goblins/absolute who by all accounts, evil. Drizzt on the other hand is dedicated in stopping people like Minthara.

I'm enjoying the game overall inspite of some of the woke elements illiciting an eye roll. However, of all of them I think the ethnic/culture blob of the Sword Coast bothers me the most. It really cheats you out of interesting world building opportunities in favor of artificial inclusivity. I posted on the original video before it got taken down over the age restrictions, so I'm going to say what I said before. I think the game was boring, the DnD rule sets make it not as fun and creative as Divinity. The writing also isn't good, nothing feels dark or edgy because god forbid someone may get offended. The woke crap always shoved down my throat made it very displeasing as well, games can't just simply be games anymore. The character creator was also horrible, Saints Row 3 even had a better creator.
Funny enough, while BG3 is a bit shallow it's actually a big improvement on 5e's mechanics. Characters can do a lot more per turn; things like jumping, a free push, moving before and after you make an attack, etc. Even the monsters have more special gimmicks than 5e gave them. Modern dnd really is just that boring.
Your wrong about how linear the game is, it is still somewhat linear because it has a story to tell, but for example in the forge. If you don't want to fight the dark dwarves you can side with them by talking to their leader before you free the True Soul and agreeing to fight him together and you can then free the gnomes by threatening him to let them go or they'll be next. The game does have more options than you think but they are usually set in motion some time, sometimes even a long time, before the actual event.
@@RKDriver He was specifically talking about being able to not have to fight the dwarves or Nere and the choice he made when he first got to the grymforge made it so he could do neither. He then said there were no options and that was an example of how the game was on rails because he saved and tried all the conversation options with Nere, but the time to make those decisions was way before he had said conversation.
Act 3 is the only Act that is truly non-linear with maybe Act 1 if you just head to the Mountain Pass first chance you get. The choice on how to fight something instead of whether or not to fight something isn't really non-linear.

Hard disagree. It’s a brilliant game, up there with other fantastic RPG’s like New Vegas, KOTOR, Witcher 3 etc. This game is the most pro-consumer made-by-gamers game you probably will find in recent memory. At least from a company as big as Larian. You don’t actually have to engage with the ‘erotic’ stuff if you don’t want to, and that is fine, it’s your choice and everybody has preferences. But the story is phenomenal, the acting is fantastic, the decisions are plentiful and impactful, even outside of dialogue and so much more. It feels like they brought DND to my computer.
@@realdaggerman105 Yeah, that's the problem. DnD was always a special kind of Murican stupidity. They took our European setting and put woke propaganda in it.

One of my favourite games is Vampire: Redemption .....and believe me i can tell you how incredible it is and at the same time tell that is basically a nightmare to play at the beginning.

And I'm sure I'm not the only one who called it so long ago.
Honestly, if larian spent a few seconds thinking about why most people went that route with the character creation they wouldn't have whined like babies. You'd have to be some kind of brain-dead NPC to not understand why. So for those of you who fit into that category (and there sure are a lot of Synthetic Man haters who fit that to a tee), let me fill you in:
- Majority of the world's population, including white people, are still straight
- Most people who still play video games (traditional games, not casual titles like candy crush and wordle) will be males
- Baldur's Gate is a western RPG franchise, i.e. land of mostly white people
- Games are made in North America, i.e. land of mostly white people
- Heavily based on European medieval fantasy, i.e. land, history, culture and folklore of overwhelmingly white people
- An RPG is a ROLE-PLAYING GAME, so naturally a fair portion of the players will create characters that resemble themselves
Larian complaining about this is like the equivalent of one of tencent's developers whining that in a beta for an upcoming MMO based heavily on Chinese mythology, a majority of the players created straight Asian males and not something else. Of course that won't happen because the Chinese currently do not suffer from the kind of brain-rot that makes them hate their own kind, unlike almost all North American and European studios.
This is so fcked up, and people are so apathetic to it.
Same thing on Discord, as if the people making these jokes are supposedly any more original

Ohh yeah, I actually apply a debuff a la Darkest Dungeon for healing up to safety after being dropped into deathsav rolls in my campaigns.

This horror fest gave me a renewed appreciation of Mass Effect companions:

Not really... I guess that's just the one's they put in this game. If you want a line up for female gods Pillars gots you covered. I didn't even really notice it until my second playthrough through Pillars 2.
In dnd there’s more male than female but in the game they chose to highlight the few female ones that are kinda well known
While I understand that the devs wanted to please everyone with all companions being able to be romanced by the player, having some of them be straight Or even have race preferences would have added to the replay ability imo
They did that in cyberpunk and it seemed universally hated. Either choice is gonna make someone mad.
@@Cobyba Then stick with the option that angers the rainbow brigade, they're a vocal minority anyway.

So hate or sex is all there is.

you're right, it's p much impossible to bond with companions without romancing them. whenever i romance one companion, all the others are like... softlocked ghosts of themselves. it's annoying because it makes it feel less like a band of people slowly becoming friends and more like an entire camp thirdwheeling the main character and their fantasy wife/husband. i wish you could have platonic scenes with characters, ironically like you can with gale and his weave scene. it'a not an inherently romantic scene (aside from his line about blah blah we could've been more-which they should absolutely remove), but it feels like one of the only ones in the whole game.

Enjoyed act 1 and 2 but Act 3 was buggy and left me feeling burnt out. The ending was bare bones and lacked pay off. Although I do recommend Dark Urges, seems like the initially intended playthrough, where it calls back to the original games and presents a Revan-like story line.
What I planned to do with my second run if I want to lol. I feel like it is the sequel of the first two.

He is a pathetic liar and bigot who needs to be removed asap from the platform. He doesn’t deserve to be heard
ptolemy is good too, although depressing
Still working through Act II at the moment...
feel like a normie? try Minthara.
@@lawnylawnington Minthara is definitely not normie, you have to be a chad mass murderer to get her

Well plus they have Jaheira in the game, who is a half elf, so they had to add them anyway, might as well make them playable too.
@@redvenge709 Did not know about the supplementary material, nor that the classes came from there, so that was interessting!

Lae'zel being the way she is at least fits the Gith origin. Shadowheart is awful, I couldn't hold myself back from killing her every play through.
I *LOVE* *IT* when games let you mistreat your companions like that.
Like in Outer Worlds, you can cock-block Parvati.
Idk if it's sad or funny that the companions you shaft don't abandon you tbh.

I'm enjoying the game overall inspite of some of the woke elements illiciting an eye roll.
However, of all of them I think the ethnic/culture blob of the Sword Coast bothers me the most. It really cheats you out of interesting world building opportunities in favor of artificial inclusivity. You can't wonder about the origins of a black character in a medieval European inspired country for fear it's somehow racist to think ancestry might make for an interesting backstory?
Hey that elf is black skin where's he from? Oh the Underdark? He's from a city with its own unique culture and hierarchical structure. That sounds interesting. What about the dark skinned human. Oh he's just a human like everyone else and now I'm a racist for asking?

There's a mod called Grounded Commonwealth for Fallout 4 you might want to check out. It undoes exactly this kind of thing and people were insanely mad about it. Would be cool to give it some coverage.
You mean a coping nazi mod portraying the most diverse nation in the Americas as fully white? in a video game in which all the music itself is from black artist? because as you know none of the traditional music of the -40s-50s is from white americans and was infact appropriated from black communities, as white americans created none of them, nobody was mad about fallout 4 being accurately portrayed. But your incel ass. Imagine trying to whitewash a nation where even hick music is not white, where even cowboys do not come from white culture LOL
"Nazi Commonwealth" you mean. There is no reality where the black/brown population disapears in a post apocalyptic america. You can make all the excuses you want about "it's in the 50s". That would not happen, in a real scenario where the government is destroyed, tribal groups would form, and if you actually did try to implement some racial elements, well you remember what happened in haiti right? the black population would genocide the would be enslavers real quick. Hell fallout 4 should have been even MORE brown if we're being real. They would have outbred the remaining whites not killed by the blast.
Ain't nothing about that mod grounded incel. Over 15 million Americans were black in 1950, entire blocs and neighborhoods in the major cities of time were black, that's how black music even spreaded throughout all of the states, blacks interacting and their families migrating back and forth from the south to the north to the west, and THAT'S an undercount. Blacks aren't new immigrants who just showed up after 1940 you dumbass. They're all citizens descended from the same people that been here since the 1700s.
5E is actual unplayable garbage only enjoyed by redditors who can't understand any actually decent system.
Wokeness is a blight on western society.
I took it as he was saying the open world mapping is very linear.
@@RKDriver Divinity 1/2 are mostly same, like walk space there is: town, a labitynth of outsides with dungeons and some encounters
Act 3 is the only Act that is truly non-linear with maybe Act 1 if you just head to the Mountain Pass first chance you get. The choice on how to fight something instead of whether or not to fight something isn't really non-linear.
