  • I came across this strange, abandoned structure in the mountains leading to a new discovery. Possibly one of the strangest and least documented areas I have ever found and explored join us as we search the abandoned places and history left behind.

Thanks again for sharing our American Heritage these places will not exist too much longer. That was a very large site like you said it was fully self contained. What a beautiful place to be enjoy your travels and letting us go along. Be safe both of you.

Sad truth really great area here winding why all those flies were trapped in the building that was locked up..strange unusual happenings in certain areas.
Happy to share and at least get what once was on camera before it’s gone. A lot of proper history at the old town site. Thank you for coming along my pleasure Charles..Hope today is treating you well and hope to hear from you next time. Thanks friend👋👋👍

Can you imagine hearing those buildings fall in the forest with nothing else around. This was another time and another reality. Our minds reach back, trying to understand how people lived back then.

I'd love to live in a cabin out in the wild like that! Perfect!!!

Nice explore OBJ's... The brands burned into the wood on that first locked cabin reminded me of the door casings on my grandad's blacksmith shop, he'd test all the branding irons he made onto them. Grandad made the branding irons for most of the ranches in our area. We donated them, his anvil and tools to the museum in Jacksonville, Oregon. I'd love to spend a couple of days exploring that area that you filmed so well, awesome.... Thanks for the share, very enjoyable... Till the next; take care and stay safe Y'all. ⛏⚒⛏

    GREAT video and discussion.
Me and my husband explored ghost towns, abandoned cemeteries, and mines in New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona 50 years ago, so I'm loving this.
BUT there is an intolerable level of frustration because I'm also interested in the history that you put in writing - BUT don't get a chance to read it and when I pause it, the arrows and numbers stay on the screen preventing it from being read!!! Please do it differently so that it can be read. Put it in a different location or leave it up on the screen three times longer than now.
    Thank you.😊

Maybe enlarge just a bit for these older eyes so I don't have to pause and magnifying to read. Other than that great video and look forward to watching much more. Thanks again and stay safe out there and happy trails.

I do enjoy the music... and thank you for going to the effort to find these interesting places. Natural gas would not normally be available to rural areas. Kind of a modern day thing.

Thank you, happy to share. Not natural gas, LPG is what I intended. I hope there’s not a gas main running through the mountain as well😬😬😆! Looked like there were some old storage tanks near the ovens.
My passion, happy to have a part in it anyhow. Thank you for the kind words.

Love following in your exploration and also the historic information you give us. I have one request though, could you leave that info up on the screen a little longer as I am visually impaired and need a little more time to read it all. I have tried pausing but the info gets covered up by time stamps, etc.

I have heard your dilemma with our informational text a couple times! I hear you and I’m glad you mentioned this as well. The historical information is important to site integrity as much as the exploration aspect. I am going to integrate something new and a bit more projected as well here shortly. Might take a little bit with some error but will be fixed..

From the looks of the linoleum on the floors and the design of the cookstoves, I would say people last lived there around the 1930's to possibly the 1950's

    • @MountainWestProductions
      @MountainWestProductions  5 днів тому

@@henryanderson7606 Yeah that’s about the time frame I can’t find anymore information. 1937 onwards the claim information/mine journal ends. Something happened with the area changing hands however record of production cease in the roughly 20 year window you mentioned.
Possibly some small time stuff and prospecting but that’s a pretty solid window of time the place completely vacated besides some stragglers.

    Powder house for dynamite
And yes they use stone buildings for buildings but that one’s definitely the one because it’s partially underground

I wonder if the building with the colorful paint was the office/home of the bookkeeper? or first aid station? .. cool that there was a porch on it looking down the hillside. I'm also wondering if the rock structure built into the hillside was for cold storage, canned good storage? or a smoke house?! oh, the thoughts we can think wandering these old deserted places!! thanks for sharing another adventure! I love the sound of the wind in the trees and water flowing down from the mountain tops.

Happy to share, New Zealand’s beautiful as well..Had a relative spend a month there this year. Did the whole helicopter ride and ferry tours etc..Really enjoyed the stories and hearing about the quality people she shared time with.
Didn’t do anything too rugged however, but New Zealand reminds me of a warmer Norway almost landscape wise. I have to get on a plane and jump across the pond soon! I was in Austria last for a small trip didn’t take my filming equipment this next time I will.
Thinking of a Nordic tour of Europe all via car and no itinerary or concrete plans and I’ll be filming..

I was born in Canada but have lived in NZ since I was 4 years old

Just saw this, Wyoming and Montana as well as Alaska are some of the best country in the states.
Highly recommend finding a few weeks to do some traveling in these areas. Some great people and places as well as community off the beaten path. Yellowstone is a must but after that head north follow the Montana “high-line” let your guard down, explore and treat the locals with respect and share your curiosity. I promise you’ll gain a lot and have a memorable experience.

It would be great to cut a post out of one of the Poplar trees that is growing too close to the building to use for a post under the porch overhang. It would assure that the overhang would be there for a lot longer.

I don’t understand music on hiking channels. Also dislike the secret look what I found and nope not telling you where it is because someone might wreck it. Really selfish of everyone that does that. Yes someone might wreck it but nature will 100 percent reclaim it. So maybe share for those that want to see it in person that wouldn’t wreck it before nature reclaims it

There’s a lot of information here, unfortunate to hear this. I think it’s important safety wise as well. If experience levels differ among explorers what can happen in these areas and what to be prepared for. There’s real concern regarding this and it isn’t as easy as a daily drive at times.
It’s important for others who appreciate this information and our adventures to find these historic sites like I have. If you watch and are familiar with mining and claim research this particular episode and some of our great loyal subscriber interactions actually provide everything you are looking for.

It’s sad that these places won’t exist much longer because the old ways are going extinct like the horse and buggy, and because homeless people who can’t find a good long lasting job become hostile and destructive wanderers who vandalize everything that represents the hard working ways of the American past when people had a future to look forward to. Who wants to live in a cow kissing vegan society populated by men with boobs and women with beards who crowd into computer controlled busses to make their way to the public square to get their two meals and a dose of drugs every day? Our government should stop relying on the wealthy to make things better and realize that the government has to regulate some things and create jobs and protect people’s investments or society will eventually collapse.
