Sometimes it's unbelievable what ends up abandoned. Today we check out this stunning Tudor Mansion built in 1938. Originally sat on 18 acres of land, 15 acres of the property was sold to a developer who built the rest of the neighborhood that still exists today. Before this massive home was built, a 1.5-story cabin sat in its place, which was demolished in 1934. Back in 1938, the house cost only 24,000 dollars to build, roughly half a million dollars today adjusting for inflation.
The home was purchased by a new family from the original owner sometime in the 1960s. The lady who lived here was part of the Canadian Olympic Equestrian team throughout the 1970s winning silver for Canada in 1979 for team jumping. She was hired by CBC Sports later on as an equestrian sports analyst in the 1980's starting her 28-year-long career as a sports broadcaster. Over the next few decades, she achieved a lot. She became the first woman to host a national sports program on TSN in 1984, and the first woman to co-host CBC Sports Olympic coverage during the 1996 Summer Olympic Games. She also covered the 2002 and 2006 Winter Olympic Games as well as 2004 Summer Olympic Games. She earned Gemini Award nominations for her work and won a 2003 Gemini Award becoming the first female sports broadcaster to do so. She announced her retirement in 2008.
In 2023 the home was sold to a developer for 7.5 million dollars.
Believe it or not just 24 hours after we explored this home demolition began. Everything that you will see inside the home was lost. All of the beautiful gingerbread decoration, interior woodwork, and craftsmanship were lost to the excavator. Instead of keeping a beautiful old home alive and well a new cheaply built modern mansion will go in its place.
