Wouldn't the pre-departure procedures (like a pre-taxi checklist on a plane) involve retracting the boarding platform before leaving the dock? Why was it still extended? Pretty dangerous for that crew member who was trying his best to avoid damage but if not careful he could have been trapped between the pasarelle and that mooring post (not much space between his head and body and those other objects) ... would not have turned out well, his head would have popped like a grape. Priority seemed to be avoiding damage rather than crew safety. Something for the captain to have a good think about.
