Biking the World’s "MOST DANGEROUS" Country (El Salvador) - Day 3

- My goal is to change the perception of El Salvador. Welcome to my journey as I attempt to ride my bike across the entire country of El Salvador. El Salvador has been consistently ranked as having the most murders per capita in the entire world, leading El Salvador to acquire the perception of being the "most dangerous country in the world". When most people hear “El Salvador”, their mind likely jumps to negative thoughts like murder and gang activity, but I KNOW there are beautiful places to see and kind people to meet in El Salvador.
Despite what I have heard in the news about El Salvador, I decided to purchase a bike in San Salvador, the capital city of El Salvador, and attempt to bike across the entire country. My goal is to meet and understand the local people and form my own opinions of “the world’s most dangerous country”. During my bike trip across El Salvador, I’m hoping to discover what the media doesn't show us, a beautiful country filled with a beautiful culture and people. I'm hoping to create El Salvador news that is positive.
When I told others I was going to travel El Salvador, most people told me I needed to be careful. Most people said they wouldn’t visit El Salvador, let alone ride their bike alone across the world’s "most dangerous" country. Most people only know El Salvador through the lens of the media, and view El Salvador as a dangerous country to travel to and visit, especially as a tourist. However, I hope that my journey traveling El Salvador in 2022 can change perceptions of the country and even more, encourage you to challenge your preconceived ideas of El Salvador and form your own opinions of “the world’s most dangerous country”.
Of course, before traveling El Salvador, like any other country in the world, I would encourage everyone to research the country’s current situation beforehand to remain safe and optimize your time in the country.
After getting my brakes fixed to start off Day 3 of my journey across El Salvador, I continue biking toward the Guatemala border. After just a few kilometers, I pull over to buy some snacks from a kind El Salvadoran woman on the side of the road. As I approach the first town of the day, where I hope to get breakfast, I pulled over to ask for directions as I wasn't sure where to go. Little did I know, the man I asked is an extremely kind person who invited me into his restaurant and treated me to a delicious breakfast. After parting ways with my new friend, I continue on, biking past some incredible volcanos and rivers before making it to lunch. A few kilometers after lunch, I pull over to what seemed like a house fire on the side of the road. Luckily, I spoke with some locals who said everything was under control. After a long day of biking, I finally make it to Zacatecoluca, which is where I end my day. As I walk around Zacatecoluca, I meet so many friendly people, and I end up eating pupusas, a traditional El Salvadoran dish, with another group of amazing locals.
So far I have felt extremely safe traveling El Salvador and am overwhelmed by the kindness and hospitality I am experiencing from the locals. I can't wait to continue exploring the country!

Welcome to Day 3 of my journey to ride my bike across the entire country of El Salvador. My goal in this series is to meet the local people, form my own opinions of El Salvador, and hopefully share with you another side of the country that you won't see in mainstream media. I'll be releasing daily videos for each day of my bike ride, so SUBSCRIBE to follow along the journey! 🇸🇻
Ellos estaban fabricando ladrillos o bloques de barro, para construir casas.
Matt, the house you saw with all the smoke is a brick manufacturer, they were in the process of firing or “cooking” the bricks (ladrillos rojos)
Matt you need to visit the Beach of Salinitas in El Salvador. You'll ride down the side of the mountain by the beach ..
El Salvador is not anymore the most dangerous country of the world.
Those times have gone. El Salvador is a little gem that the whole world is slowly discovering thanks to Bukele and it's forward-thinking Bitcoin legal tender law.
❤🇸🇻
As I mention in the video and description, my goal throughout this series is to share another side to El Salvador that isn't seen in the media, and so far my experience has been nothing but great, with tons of kind and friendly people!
@@MattKramerTravels yes, your video was great! ❤🇸🇻
But we need to stop saying that El Salvador is the most dangerous country in the world, because today that is not factually correct anymore.
Keep up the great work, Matt 🤝
Nothing like the people of El Salvador! That's the real treasure.....
I couldn't agree more, Paul!
“The kind people, the food and how beautiful the country is” that’s what you’ll hear from all tourists.
I agree Dennis!
"Enjoy life because there is only one life and you have to live it well." Kind of summed it all up. Thanks, Matt!
Couldn't agree more Pat!
My friend, the smoke was coming from the brick factory. What the gentleman yelled out was “ladrillo rojo”, red brick. Thought you might wanted to know that detail.
Great series ❤
Thanks so much for sharing Pedro! I really appreciate it!
Proud to be Salvadoran more than ever , that’s my people blessing
The people of El Salvador really are special, thanks Carlos!
The guy in the hammock said “ladrillo rojo”. I guess they were making red bricks 🧱
Thanks for sharing this!
Hey Matt. What was happen there was they were burning bricks . They make bricks out mud and sand them they cooked or burner them and that's how they be come red bricks .
Comeback to this beautiful country my friend , with a totally different name of your video Thanks Matt.
Great video. Muy buena gente. The smoke from the shack may have been from the process of drying clay bricks or making charcoal.
Thanks David! That could be too! I was just glad that everything seemed ok!
Yes they were making clay bricks...the man said LADRILLO ROJO 🥰 which means clay brick.
I laugh for like 2 hrs seeing him worry, we call them ladrilleras and yes they are bricks
@@Doblefuria
I was laughing too.
Man, Salvadoran people are the kindest in the world.
I love the fact that they said that the countries safe now, used to be dangerous but now they feel safe.
It really is true, the people of El Salvador are amazing!
Me alegro que estes visitando mi pais, pequeño, humilde pero grande de corazon y con constante ganas de mejorar y desarrollarse

Thank you so much for showing your followers the kind and beautiful people of El Salvador!!
I am really enjoying the journey along the way with you. I moved to the USA as a teenager and have never been in some of the areas you have visited. Please be careful and have fun!!😊😊😊🙏🙏
Thanks so much Cory! I am really enjoying my time in El Salvador!
Me encantan tus vídeos, me encanta el amor de la gente hacia su pais
Muchas gracias William! La gente de El Salvador es muy amable!
15:02, and I'm here in my house thinking what should I have for breakfast? I'm so jealous 😫
I'm glad you're enjoying our food and the kindness of my people. Greetings from LA 👋👋👋
Thanks so much Raquel! I am really enjoying El Salvador a lot and its incredible people!
Hey Matt, That place with all that smoke is a Ladrillera (Bricks making place) and they make there ladrillos. The building you see is like a big oven they put wood on the baseman and bake the fresh clay made bricks layered on top of the burning coals. Very common thing lol
Thanks for sharing Benjamin! That makes more sense. I was worried because I had never seen anything like that before
@@MattKramerTravels he was saying “ladrillo rojo”
Once they make the bricks they have to bake it ,that's why there was so much smoke coming out of that place.
Thanks for clarifying this Silvia!
your videos of this trip are so heartwarming and lovely, i have been a solo traveller several times in my life and have experienced similar kindness and warmth in many places, you make my feet and my heart itchy to hit the road again!
Thanks for the videos, glad you’re having fun. I can’t wait to visit my homeland and take my toddlers and husband. Those pupusas looked so delicious. Everyone makes them different can’t explain it but you sure can taste it that’s why I got to try them all. I have been craving those coconut ice cream for years, you just add the red jelly for the full flavor to come through :) next time try the tamarind flavor.
Thanks so much Gabby! I hope you get to visit with your family soon, El Salvador is so great and the pupusas are incredible!!
The structure with fire and smoke was indeed a sort of oven used for red bricks manufacturing. Nothing to worry about.
Thanks for sharing!
Wow.....in this place the food is delicious
It really is!!
Watching this Video makes me Happy. Because I was born in El Salvador and came to the U.S with political Isilum, because in 1989 my Dad was the Secretary of Defense at the time, and the Gorillas Where trying to kidnap me because my Dad Was in the Military. Mom and I fled the country when I was 8 years old..and for the longest time decades even that the situation Never got better until New President Nayib bukele cracked down on crime and Is helping to lift our country of El Salvador. It's Amazing to see how bad it was and how far we have come and on our way to be the safest country in the United Continent. Thanx to God and all of our kind hard working, honest Salvadoreños.love the videos. Thank you for showing people our Beautiful country.. R.S.V. Respect. EL SALVADOR 🇸🇻
Great videos man. Congratulations i do see your videos at El Salvador💙🥃

Stop saying El Salvador 🇸🇻 is the most dangerous county, thanks to our president NAYIB BUKELE everything has changed for better . I’m so proud to be SALVADORAN , El Salvador 🇸🇻 is beautiful and so panoramic with outstanding views, greetings from Houston tx
El lo dise con un propósito! En su ruta. Muestra todo lo contrario, solo comentarios positivos, gente amable, paisajes hermosos.
Did you watch any of the videos? Through his travels through ES, he is debunking the belief that El Salvador is the “Most Dangerous”.
Another good video 📹 👏 👌 👍 🙌
Thanks Ernesto!
El Salvador stopped being the most dangerous country in the world a while ago
Ho! Nice you past to my city Usulutan thank you for those beautiful videos👍😘
Thank you Norma, Usulutan is a cool city!
Thanks for visiting El Salvador and my hometown of La union
El Salvador is a special place, including La Union!
The smoke in the shack is a furnace house where they make red bricks.
Thanks for sharing Marco! I didn't know at the time
Amazing how people always gives you free water, this time people didn't charge you to help fix your bike, considering to be a poor country that really said alot of the people values.
I couldn't agree more, the people of El Salvador truly are special!
I think it's because he's a tourist and also he's outside the capital. I grew up in the capital and it was a dog-eat-dog world, you had to be constantly on the look out not to get ripped off, you quickly learn to be street smart. That's why I always enjoyed traveling outside the capital to the country side, people were more salt of the earth.
Gets your facts straight dude remove that title from your videos El Salvador is the Safest country in Central America right now
LOL! agree.. I mentioned it to him on another video. We are on the transition of being the safest country in the world.
Blessings!
i have been to every country in central america. el salvador is probably the poorest ive seen . but the people and their generosity is amazing. they have so little but give so much. my favourite place on earth is central america!
Bellisimo mi país amabless
Estoy de acuerdo, El Salvador es muy hermoso!
Saludos mateo..
Truly the sweetest people I've ever met there!
Bonito video 👍👍👍👍
Muchisimas gracias!
Estaban horneando ladrillos de barro, que se utilizan para la construcción de paredes
Gracias por compartir esto!
10:07 At the burning house they said "ladrillo rojo" it sounded like they said EL RIO, but Ladrillo means "Brick". So all that smoke is due to making bricks in that big house-looking oven.
Thanks for sharing this!
MATEO, LOVED THAT YOU LOVED PUPUSAS!! YUM, YUM!!
BLESSINGS AND SAFE JOURNEY!
Pupusas are so delicious, thanks Maggie!
EL SALVADOR 🇸🇻 ……. A FRIENDLY COUNTRY
It really is Ernesto!
I'm enjoying a lot yours videos , I'm salvadorean 😊 and i would like to explain you the place that you saw with a lot of smoke 😅it was an artesanal fabrication of Red bricks , they were doing the process of cooking Red bricks for make them hard and then sell it for builts houses. 😊👍
Buen video .bienvenido a el salvador
Gracias Cesar!!
The house with lots of smoke, they were making bricks. From clay or some similar material👍🏾🤙🏾
Thanks for clarifying this!
You remind me of a young John Ritter, your tone of voice...enjoy my beautiful country.
Thank you, I am really enjoying El Salvador!
Matt: in the fire section they are making ladrillos! Bricks!
Thank you for sharing Julio!
The fire was a furnace for making brick. They were saying red brick.
Thanks for clarifying!
Hello, in El Salvador we have two kinds of ways to make houses, they can be made of blocks or red bricks. Those guys were cooking red bricks. That is their procedure, in case you didn't understand what they wanted to tell you.
Thanks for sharing this Alfredo!
Caucasian can never make a video about El Salvador without using that title
Good comment.
Exactly! So tired of this fake title to attract viewers. It continues to stigmatize our beautiful country as we try to move forward!
One of the Underated Country i am secretly wanna visit on Day 🙏✊️and ride a bike like you. The People are so nice and Wilcomming. The Places looks like Philippines 🙂 beautiful
They cook the red bricks. They make them from clay so the heat cook them. To build houses or fences.
Thanks for sharing Oscar!
ALL I CAN SAY IS. JUST KEEP IT UP MATT.

@@eyalhalamauriz9902 si, diferente.
What you saw there is a brick factory that is all the smoke you saw, they were cooking the bricks to make them more resistant.
Thanks for sharing, I wasn't aware of this at the time!
Hi Matt, I enjoyed watching your videos of My beautiful country El Salvador.
I just wanted to add a comment on the brick factory.
The guy there said "Ladrillos" which means bricks.
Thank you so much for making those videos so more people can see the new reality of my beloved country.
Mi país el mejor del mundo 🇸🇻🇸🇻🇸🇻🇸🇻🇸🇻💯
Me encanta El Salvador tambien!
They were cooking pavers. In El Salvador, pavers are made from a mix mud, straw and other materials. They have to be cooked to use in construction.
💪💪💪🙏🙏🙏🙏🇸🇻🇸🇻🇸🇻bendiciones
Gracias!!
Ladrillo Rojo-Red Bricks for construction
😎😎😎
Cheers!
The house on fire 🔥 that’s how they make red bricks the we use to build homes. They fill that house full of bricks and the light up fire under it that’s why they had so much wood.
Thanks for sharing this Guillermo, I didn't know this at the time!
They were making “ ladrillo rojo “ red brick
Thanks for sharing this!
The smoke was coming a brick factory. They were actually making bricks 🧱
🤣🤣 hahaha where you stopped because there was a burning galley is an oven to make rustic red brick, they cook it like this and it is very resistant (like rock), it is an artisanal oven. but I know you stopped to help in case it was burning.
I didn't know at the time, I wanted to make sure everything was ok!
@@MattKramerTravels😅🤣 what the heck 🚒🚒🚒🚒 is going on?
Jajaja! Bacilo bastante contigo el minutero.
El título de el video está incorrecto.
Mi objetivo en esta serie de videos es compartir el lado de El Salvador que no se comparte en los principales medios de comunicación, el lado bello y amable. Usé comillas en el título a propósito.
09:12 WOW WOW WOW QUE PASA AQUI???!! moment

The part of the smoke that you did not understand, they said ladrillos rojos, which stands for red bricks, as a part of its process it has got to be "cooked"
Thank you for sharing Luis!!
That candy cost more than a breakfast of pupusas and coffee
i guess maybe the ingredients were more expensive
He was saying the smoke was because they had red bricks 🧱 inside
Thanks for clarifying Rene!
