  • In this Uzbekistan travel vlog, I take you with me as I spend 16 hours on an Old Soviet Train going from Khiva to the capital city of Uzbekistan, Tashkent! I decided to book a Business Class ticket for my first journey on an old Soviet train, which is the middle class ticket option and gives you one bed in a 4 person shared room… not exactly what I had in mind for a Business Class ticket, but the journey was quite the experience!
    To start off my Uzbekistan vlog, I headed to the train station in Khiva, found my room and began setting up my bed. About 30 minutes after I boarded the Uzbekistan train, the journey began, and 30 minutes later, the train made its first stop in the city of Urgench. After being idle on this old Soviet Uzbekistan Train for over 1 hour, my 3 bunkmates finally arrived, who I would end up spending the next ~15 hours with on the train all the way to Tashkent, Uzbekistan. My 3 new roommates on the old Soviet train were all incredibly kind local Uzbeks, despite not being able to communicate with them. For dinner, they even shared their food with me, and we shared tons of laughs and hand gestures together, it was so much fun!
    On this Uzbekistan vlog, I also shared a tour of the old Soviet train, including the bathrooms, the common eating area, and each of the different sleeping options. On this Uzbekistan train, there was only 1 first class carriage so if you want to book a first class ticket on the Old Soviet train in Uzbekistan, book in advance! The first class ticket gives you one bed in a room with just one other person. The business class ticket, which is what I had, gives you one bed in a room with 3 other people. The economy, or third class ticket, gives you one bed in an open space with many other people all around you.
    In this Uzbekistan travel vlog, I also spent some time in the dining area to stretch out my legs and have a little more space. On the old Soviet train in Uzbekistan, you had to buy something to stay in the dining area, so I chose to buy some meat flavored chips. It was my first time trying these particular chips, but they were better than I expected! After a few hours exploring the old Soviet train, I got a few hours of rest before being woken up by the Uzbekistan conductor in the morning.
    Taking the old Soviet train in Uzbekistan and meeting the local people was one of my favorite experiences during my time in this Central Asian country. I hope you all enjoyed my Uzbekistan travel vlog and take the chance to ride the old Soviet train if you visit the country!

    A “business class” lol. When I took a trip in a Soviet train to Samarkand I chose business class too. Next 7-8 hours spent chilling in a corridor thinking about how naive I am. Welcome to the club buddy 😁

    1. There is also luxury class which is more comfortable
    2. Trains are mostly on time, they just stop for long time in biggest stations

    Hi @MattKramerTravels, thank you for sharing your train journey experience with us. I have two questions:
    1) at what time of the year did you travel by this train?
    2) what number carriage the cafe is located at?
    Thanks!

      @MattKramerTravels  8 місяців тому +2

      I was in Uzbekistan in September. I don't quite remember which carriage the cafe is in but if you get on the train, I'm sure you will be able to find it!

    Hi great video. We have just booked a ticket for next month but it looks like the train arrives in "Tashkent South" out of town not far from the airport. Can you remember which station you came into in Tashkent?

    • @MattKramerTravels
      @MattKramerTravels  Рік тому +1

      Thank you so much! Unfortunately I don't remember which station I arrived to but there should be plenty of taxi drivers outside the station to help you get to where you need to go. Enjoy your trip!

      @@MattKramerTravels Thanks for getting back to us. Because we are taking the Sunday night train first class is available so will be interested to see how that is. I have booked a hotel right next to South station so hope I have got the right place. They stop the afternoon train from Bukhara to Khiva next month so we are taking the 4am train which looks as though it provides a similar sleeper service to the one you used as it comes from Tashkent so your video will be very helpful
