The fact that you’re reacting to Darkthrone shows you’re serious about taking whatever requests are thrown at you. You’re the man, keep it going sir, and enjoy!
for Darkthrone you should react to Quintessence & The Hordes of Nebulah two of my favourite songs from their album 'Panzerfaust' along with their three classic albums A blaze in the northern sky, Under a funeral moon and of course Transilvanian hunger.
Panzerfaust has such shitty vocals though. Even Fenriz laughs if you listen to the commentary version of the album. Good riffs for sure but man those vocals are cringe inducing. They're mixed way to high as well which makes it worse to listen to.
It's really amazing seeing you diving into black metal like we all did at one time (black metal fans). It is strange that shittier sound makes for better black metal. Can be true for other genres as well, overproduction sucks. Great reaction as always! Maybe time for some good old swedish death metal? "Edge of Sanity - Twilight" is a great start!
I do like Darkthrone a lot, and A Blaze in the Northern Sky, Under a Funeral Moon and Transilvanian Hunger are bona fide black metal classics. But for me, I get more enjoyment out of their stuff when they started to incorporate more crust punk, NWOBHM and death metal elements into their music. From Sardonic Wrath onwards it kind of feels like Fenriz and Noctruno just said "screw it". And to me that's a good thing, they don't take it uber seriously so we can get stuff like Viking Metal Punks or Valkyrie, as well as stuff like Burial Bliss or Duke of Gloat. They became a band (well, duo) who just create whatever they want for the pure enjoyment and for that I love them.
Cool!! This album was one of my introductions to 2nd wave black metal when it came out (along with Mayhem, Satyricon, early Katatonia, In the Woods, ect ). They ALWAYS make good albums but haven't played live since their death metal days. They're basically just a 2-man studio band nowadays (last time i checked anyway ☺)
@@bschuler6216 yea, Quorthon started it. His fault! 😂 i think Darkthrone gets offers to tour & do festivals every year.. A friend of mine said Fenriz will only agree if he receives a video from Bill Murray asking them personally to play for him lol

The band did a 2 hour long song called mirror reaper where they incorporated his screams at the midway through the song. The song is a reflection on their grief. It’s phenomenal and incredibly sad. if you want the most black-metal of the black metal, GORGOROTH under the sign of hell & ULVER nattens madrigal: they build upon the conventions laid down by Darkthrone, Thorns, Mayhem, etc., and boy was 1997 a helluva year for black metal!

It's cool you played the song all the way through before commenting on it. I love watching new listeners connect with this stuff. When I was a kid it assured me that I wasn't the only one who felt like this. Something a bit more technical that can bring me to tears at times is the song Absission by Deathspell Omega. Notice how the original is colder than the covers? He made alot of tough decisions to do that. More Darkthrone: Triumphant Gleam, Information Wants To Be Syndicated, Too Old Too Cold, These Shores Are Damned!
for me nothing beats Darkthrones 2nd record "A Blaze in the Northern Sky" less atmospheric but more groovy with a tiny amount of Death Metal thrown in. Their debut record was Death metal before they transitioned into Black Metal and "A Blaze" still has minor remnants of the previous record.
That is the thing, they intentionally pushed the drums into the background just so this album gets this ambiance and melancholy boost. Also, the repetition aspect is essential to Black Metal. By repetition and simple structures, you achieve that hypnotic atmosphere, where it feels like you're one with the song and it never ends, and when it does, you feel like waking up from a dream. Listening to this song, at night, with not a single ounce of light present in the room and eyes closed is just magical. I once fell asleep doing the stuff I said above and got myself into a dream-like state, seeing things but nothing at the same time (I couldn't describe that "dream" for my life) while this song was playing in the background. It was a weird mix of a dream that I can't describe and reality, almost as if I was dreaming but hearing "reality" perfectly.
Another incredible and classic album in this style is Nattens Madrigal by Ulver. Very hypnotic and melodic and the bpm is insane. Hymn 1, 3 or 6 are my favs from it. Seeing the parts you liked on Taake and this Darkthrone track I think it is gonna be right up your alley.
Yeah Darkthrone is one of my favorite bands, but I've been hesitant to request them because their best stuff tends to have trash production quality haha.
Awesome reaction Thank you!!! In The Shadow Of The Horns Off A Blaze In The Northern Sky also Paragon Belial off the same album also Unholy Black Metal off Under A Funeral Moon!!! First one I bought was A Blaze In The Northern Sky around the time it came out I saw the cover and was like I have to buy that it looked awesome!!! Cheers!!! Pete.
I enjoyed this reaction! I especially dig black metal reactions - it's a huge genre and there's a lot of fascinating stuff to take in. I"m less of a Darkthrone fan but I still have several of their albums (nothing later than Panzerfaust). I'd like to see you revisit Emperor: "With Strength I Burn" has the feeling but it also has the clarity. For something more in the Darkthrone vein, but also with clarity that allows you to take in the nuances of the percussions, I'll throw out "City Light" by Addaura.
I had a band project with 2 DarkThrone covers, one was Transilvanian Hunger (picked by the guitarist) and the other one was Triumphant Gleam, from Panzerfaust album. Both crazy good songs and what you say is true, simple one, so strong and full of feeling :) I can see why guy chose to play it

This album and song came out in 1994, right at the heart of the 2nd wave of black metal. They were part of that Norwegian scene that had all kinds of crazy church burnings and shit like that. This was one of those types of albums that they wrote with the intention of being hypnotic. The band Burzum would also amplify those qualities as well on some of their albums. The guy on the cover of the album is Fenriz. A legend in the scene. one of my favourite Darkthrone songs is Leave No Cross Unturned. It's absolutely epic, with a lot of thrash elements... but it's also 14 minutes long so I don't know how it would fit in a reaction video. Anyway, on or off camera, you should definitely check it out. ^_^
Dude fuck yeah, stumbled on this right before the workout and your reaction made my fucking day! Brought me back to what it felt like when I first dove into this music!! Such a powerful album full of true grimness, Hell yeah!!!!!
you should react to “Ravishing Grimness” or any song from that album, but especially the title track and the claws of time. they two of Darkthrone’s best “true cold” songs. the reverb and production on that album is perfect🔥 little known and talked about fact: the drum beat and cold lofi atmosphere from this style of metal was inspired by the techno music clubs in Norway that these guys went to in the early 90s/late 80s. they felt inspired by that music and wanted to create metal music that had the same droning feeling and atmosphere.
Freezing moon by mayhem is great also. please react to the official studio version and not 2004 wacken like everyone else (maniac vocals suck in that). There is also a version with dead on vocals but i suggest you listen to studio version first and then to the version with dead and decide which one is best. (studio version has attila on vocals. Not everyone likes his vocals. i obey those vocals)
@@hnorrstrom Dead is better everyway other than the actual singing. As a singer i think he was a little bit better than your average black metal vocalist. But the image and lyrics are a whole other story
Wow congratulations classic nineties Norwegian Black Metal, one of their Black Metal trinity albums. Darkthrone progressed a lot over the years. Like them or hate them. I personally like all their albums. But their albums from the 90's are cult classics. Check out The Sun No Longer Rises by Immortal.
This tune is a paen to Mayhem's late vocalist "Dead" who was wearing an "I love Transyvania" t shirt when he shot himself. The album cover is a homage to the live Mayhem album featuring Dead "Live In Leipzig."
Transylvanian Hunger aka The Wrist Destroyer. Tremelo picking all the way! I get exhausted just listening to it. Also, can i request Rust by Darkthrone? I've never seen anybody react to it. It very simple and groovy and very athmosperic.
It's really kind of similar to ambient or shoegaze. In that it's very hazy and thick and emotive. But definitely conveying some dark emotions. Trance-like. The drums are mixed low on purpose to create the wall of sound.
I had the same reaction the first time I heard a black metal riff like that one...it was from a local band in my hometown I believe. It wasn't this song but a very similar one. I was like WTF is that!
Everything Darkthrone has in both Transylvanian Hunger and Under a Funeral Moon albums are masterpieces... If you liked this atmosphere, this feel, I'll play the role of the lone wolf and I'll recommend their two closing songs of these two albums; "Crossing The Triangle Of Flames" and "En As I Dype Skogen". These two songs embody the magical trance of the dense, foggy, dark atmosphere of proper Black Metal, definitely amongst my favorite songs ever.
If you are looking for a Black Metal album which can be called classic Black Metal, "Transylvanian Hunger" is that album. This albums sets a standard for dark sound, dark atmosphere, quality (poor of course), dark cover etc. I do not like Darkthrone too much because of their late stuff, but this one and "Total Death" are good. Try listening to old Kataklysm, anything from the album "Sorcery" or "The Orb of Uncreation" if you want to feel another type of darkness.
In my opinion, Thrash required 4 stages in music history to transition in Black Metal: 1. German Thrash 2. Bathory 3. Mayhem 4. Darkthrone Also, the cover/guitar solo was missing "ATMOSPHERE"...that's the word you were looking for.
The low-fi recording of the music is intentional to add to the whole atmosphere and feel.
That is by far the best discovering black metal story i ever heard

Thank you for this reaction.
and the best thing too, is that this song is actually quite simple to learn, and it sounds great. :D I love this band.
one of my favourite Darkthrone songs is Leave No Cross Unturned. It's absolutely epic, with a lot of thrash elements... but it's also 14 minutes long so I don't know how it would fit in a reaction video. Anyway, on or off camera, you should definitely check it out. ^_^
I remember my first time hearing Transylvanian Hunger “THOSE RIFFS” and “WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT” were my same reactions lmfaooo.
Dude fuck yeah, stumbled on this right before the workout and your reaction made my fucking day! Brought me back to what it felt like when I first dove into this music!! Such a powerful album full of true grimness, Hell yeah!!!!!
Damn that laugh at 7:33 hahaha seems like you enjoyed this song very much XD
you should react to “Ravishing Grimness” or any song from that album, but especially the title track and the claws of time. they two of Darkthrone’s best “true cold” songs. the reverb and production on that album is perfect🔥
little known and talked about fact: the drum beat and cold lofi atmosphere from this style of metal was inspired by the techno music clubs in Norway that these guys went to in the early 90s/late 80s. they felt inspired by that music and wanted to create metal music that had the same droning feeling and atmosphere.
finally you are doing black metal..... please do more. I've been waiting for some time for this
Lol hahahahaha... I’ve been doing black metal for quite some time and we do plenty of it during our metal meltdown livestream
@@TheAdventuresofTNT too much work means no time to watch youtube! I didnt know my man!
Wtf that's the craziest shit I've ever heard, the skeleton guitar I mean, song was demonic as hell! 🤣
Dead on vocals is better, but mostly because it is dead. He is just black metal personified.
@@hnorrstrom Dead is better everyway other than the actual singing. As a singer i think he was a little bit better than your average black metal vocalist. But the image and lyrics are a whole other story
Attila is fucking amazing. His vocals are so dramatic, I love it
Attila is phenomenal on the entire album
I prefer version from "European Legions" live album. Maniac's vocal was dope at the time
One of my faves of all time
Wow congratulations classic nineties Norwegian Black Metal, one of their Black Metal trinity albums. Darkthrone progressed a lot over the years. Like them or hate them. I personally like all their albums. But their albums from the 90's are cult classics. Check out The Sun No Longer Rises by Immortal.
By the way, Darkthrone also made an album called Hate Them. Check out the song Rust from that album, very dark and haunting song.
This tune is a paen to Mayhem's late vocalist "Dead" who was wearing an "I love Transyvania" t shirt when he shot himself. The album cover is a homage to the live Mayhem album featuring Dead "Live In Leipzig."
my fave album by DT- crazy story bro about the dude's uncle
Transylvanian Hunger aka The Wrist Destroyer. Tremelo picking all the way! I get exhausted just listening to it. Also, can i request Rust by Darkthrone? I've never seen anybody react to it. It very simple and groovy and very athmosperic.
Lol
i love how his first move is to try and turn the volume up on a lofi BM song only to see that everything is on max volume already lol
It's really kind of similar to ambient or shoegaze. In that it's very hazy and thick and emotive. But definitely conveying some dark emotions. Trance-like.
The drums are mixed low on purpose to create the wall of sound.
i'm like you; 1st time hearing this song it pulled me in
I had the same reaction the first time I heard a black metal riff like that one...it was from a local band in my hometown I believe. It wasn't this song but a very similar one. I was like WTF is that!
lykanthrop does tons of good black metal covers
Nargaroth - seven tears are flowing to the river
You should check out Immortal - Withstand The Fall of Time on the album At the heart of winter. Its fantastic. The titletrack is also fantastic :D.
Hell yea,glad you like this
Everything Darkthrone has in both Transylvanian Hunger and Under a Funeral Moon albums are masterpieces...
Do "Blood stains the circle" by Gorgoroth, it's got, in my opinion, one of the best Black Metal Riffs !😈
man, you have my big like
for more trve kvlt please consider the following:
-Lord belial-spiritual damnation
Heh, nice! Now it's time to visit Carpathian forest and pay respect to Vladislav III the Impaler :)
In my opinion, Thrash required 4 stages in music history to transition in Black Metal:
1. German Thrash
2. Bathory
3. Mayhem
4. Darkthrone
Also, the cover/guitar solo was missing "ATMOSPHERE"...that's the word you were looking for.
Id love if youd do the vampiric tyrant by satanic warmaster. Another song with great wintery atmosphere
Fathers of Black Metal = VENOM! ARGH- BLACK METALLL!
And some other songs:
Carchah by Xibalba
Bolomtiku Vahom by Xibalba
Nichoca Xokok by Ahpuch Oztoc
Nada Verde Crece Aqui by Yaotl Mictlan
The most morbid guitar.
