With so little power in the engine would it take a lot to run the alternator.

Robert Stubbs it takes maksimum of 1kw (65A * 14,7V = 955W) and most of the time there is little consumption so not much work is done by altenator.

Under a FULL load it would take roughly 5 hp. That would rarely if EVER happen with his application, in my humble opinion.
