The house is adorable, the only little thing missing, for me anyway, is a sweet kitty to come home to at night to meet me at the door. All the very best to you.
There are Tiny Houses designs that actually have the sleeping area in the main floor, so no loft is required, though many also have lower sleeping areas and lofts as storage, I do also think that tiny homes are a great way to allow elderly to have their own space without having to stick them into a nursing home!
Sarah Morton I agree with you. I currently live in a three-story house and I’m by myself. But I needed this at this stage in my life. I grew up in a one bedroom apartment with a bunch of people. For me to have all of the space to myself is healing a lot of wounds. But I already feel that in the future I would be very happy to downsize because I have given myself this chance
I do not know the caused your divorce but it is very nice that your ex-husband helped you built this tiny house and he did a great job too. God bless you both. Cheers.
bodybalancer some people can actually have an amicable divorce. If kids are not involved and no fighting over assets, it can happen. What a beautiful home.
even with children and assets involved people can actually still be civil. "i still >like< him, but i need my own space." is what one of those people once said to me.
Well said i totally agree with you on this one. There are homeless people every where yet we have homes that not have been lived in for years and years and that are empty
Andrzej Sati - Yeah, I totally agree. And you can make good sturdy houses out of plastic water bottles. The government could make eco friendly houses, cut down on our plastic waste and help the homeless. Unfortunately, all they care about is how are they going to fatten their own wallet.
San Jose CA just last month approved a plan to do exactly that, create a tiny house community for their homeless people! They expect to have 80 tiny houses ready by next summer.
I believe you are the smartest, humble, beautiful, craziest 😉, person alive. I am proud of your accomplishments...and I happen to be crazy as well the difference is I have not been brave enough to show it. But working on it😉. Love your house.🌟
Love her tiny house. She explained everything very well and I love the idea with the hay, clever idea. It bothers me something fierce that they are technically illegal here in Canada. Makes no sense. You pray for a solution to end homelessness and for those who prefer living alternatively and then you find a solution and the bi-laws and government say it's illegal. There are so many other countries that have been creating these small living spaces for decades. She's very fortunate to have a friend who is so generous to offer his property and care for her safety. Fantastic story. I wish her all the very best. Love, health and happiness.
I agree I HAVE been homeless for a year and there is no help in Pennsylvania but this would solve so many homeless problems but nobody can guide me to how to get a project of tiny homes for homeless started. I can't even get a donated computer to work online or start a online business to have an income...
Raynee Maybe you could try a different state or network with a group of people in your community? I don't know much about the laws in the states but I know there are some who have tiny home communities and are more flexible with building codes. I'm subscribed to a few channels who live in RV's maybe you can connect with one of the via UA-cam or Facebook and they can assist you in the right direction.
Raynee, have you considered housing options in Michigan? See video 'Detroit makes housing affordable with tiny houses' & related videos. Detroit is actively pursuing (tiny) housing alternatives on solid foundations for low income families. It's my belief that houses below a certain minimum square footage are illegal for the sheer reason that they generate far less revenue for governments in the form of property tax, & for big utility companies in the form of heating/cooling bills, etc. This lady, by her own admission, pays only about $70 every 2 months for propane. And when she eventually commits the 'crime' of going off-grid....you can figure out how many corporate pockets she'll stop lining.
@@randilynn1796 Sounds like you need to be in a different state. I live in my rv and will never consider living long-term in the NE or SE US. When you get a chance check out cheaprvliving.com and YT channel by the same name. There are tons of solutions there.

Have you had a tech look at your heating system. Humidity can be an indicator of a bad burn with propane. It would be good to have a carbon monoxide detector also. My husband works with propane and was concerned when he heard you mention the humidity. Your house in beautiful. ~ Sherry
Your home is actually built well but it needs to breathe, humidity is caused by the fact your home heats up to quick, not giving it enough time to disperse the moisture. Keep a little air flowing from outside it requires only a little and you should see less moisture. Of like the other comment please watch for black mold, it can make you ill and it can be deadly. You’re doing well keep up with more UA-cam videos on any improvements we’d love to hear from you, thanks, Charlie

Sirius Lee Non vented propane heat will cause condensation on the windows, regardless of what you do. More outside air can reduce it, but I keep the windows closed, save the money, and live with it. A vented heater can solve the problem, if the condensation is just intolerable to you.
The more of these "tiny house" vids I watch, the more it occurs to me that the rest of us only use about this much space in our own houses... The rest is stored STUFF.
I have a house of 1300 sf...I can assure you, we use every part of it. I have nothing 'stored'. My family of four would not be happy living with less space. I can easily get rid of stuff, but we could not do with less space.
@Jaime Alonzo Luckily our house uses space very well. We have a finished basement and 3 bedrooms, and well-made closet space. We also have 1/2 acre of land so the kids have plenty of room to play outside. The only thing I would change is my garage...it's too small to really work as a garage (the house was build in the 40s), so I would love to remodel it as a den. Not sure I'll ever get the chance but for now, our house works pretty well for our little family.
I'm loving these videos! what a nice story and I really hope that Christine will have a great life in that tiny house! I ended up going in a similar but yet different direction myself. I live in the third largest city in Sweden (read: "it's a small city") ;). But I opted for a tiny apartment of 21m2 (226 square feet). I saved up and bought it cash and now I can enjoy a minimalistic lifestyle in a beautiful transformable space with all modern comforts one could think of (hot shower, flush toilet, internet, recycling etc.). Everything is included in the rent (internet, tv, phone, insurance, electricity, heating, recycling etc) with a total of 140$/mo. This will increase by 1-2$ every year (to keep up with inflation), but all in all, the rent will never weigh me down financially. I am super happy with finding a space like this which enables me to do so much more with life other than working in order to pay for your living. It's great! Thanks for a truly inspiring youtube channel! I absolutely love these videos. Great source of inspiration.
nene he bought the apartment, so none can throw him out. The 140bucks he talks about is just the fee for the apartmentowners to pay for electricity and such.
High five Christine for your creative solution to a problem that too many people are facing - how to find decent affordable housing. Tiny houses were the norm back in the day. Easy to afford, clean, heat. We're going back to that because no one can afford anything in this country anymore. Greed is the new motivator and the new mindset regarding housing in this country. The USA is becoming a place of greed and making a fast buck off the backs of the disadvantaged with outrageous housing prices. It's comments like those of MOMof2 that displays what's wrong with this country. Stupidity , greed and arrogance is driving this country into the ditch.
You are so right. I have been a History Teacher for years and love touring historical sites. Homes for modest income families for centuries have been tiny, you see it among the historical buildings in Appalachia and over here in Europe.
MimiZ914 yes the government/authorities need to completely rethink the housing situation as homelessness is very high due to cost of housing, low pay jobs and no jobs at all. This kind of living needs to be encouraged
Christine you are very pretty, such a pleasant inviting face. You are so humble & honest. Darn it, a tear fell out of my eye when you spoke about your mom. What a loving tribute to name your home after your mom & granny- pretty name. What a super kind friend to have you live there. I wish you all the best.
What a sweet thing her ex did and he did such a great job insulating and building this home. I pray she gets to stay in her home til her last breath. She and her husband invested much into it
I believe it’s because it can be moved as it sits on a trailer. If you put it on a foundation, they could tax it. I’m not against having to pay taxes on them, but it shouldn’t cost more than $200 a year. Eventually we will need small living space in order to be able to afford to live.
She touches on the major issue when she talks about having to go around the house and wipe down condensation off of walls and windows. AIR QUALITY. This home is probably only about 120-140 square feet. If it were an empty box it would maybe be 1024 cubic feet of air space. When filled with furniture, appliances fixtures household equipment etc. its probably down to 750-800 cubic feet of air. With windows and doors closed and a furnace running, that is not enough air for even one person. With just one person inside the air quality probably drops to dangerous levels after 8-10 hours with the windows and doors closed. That humidity she wipes off of surfaces is from her breathing. The building codes in most areas dictate a minimum square footage of around 650 square feet to insure safe air quality without having forced ventilation.
I love to visit stately homes and always find myself most strongly attracted to the gatekeeper's lodge or the gamekeeper's cottage or similar small dwelling!
Such a lovely ,happy lady . In India.,my native country ,millions of people live in even smaller ,crammed places but they re happy souls ,Big ,luxurious abodes dont necessarily mean big happinesses.Loved watching every moment of this video.
Exactly! The system is outrageous. Being homeless is illegal, van life is illegal but it’s legal for you to pay $1000 or more for a one bedroom apartment. That’s absolutely insane. There needs to be some kind of rent control enforced in the U.S. There’s no reason that an apartment should cost more than owning a home.
It would be great to hear from folks who have been living in tiny homes for 10 plus years just to see how everything’s going. So far everything I’ve seen was filmed within the first year or so.
This was perhaps the most helpful video I've seen yet! Wishing Christine all the best with her tiny house. Hope you swing back around if she upgrades her drainage - she may have some more tips to share, and I would love to hear them!
I love your tinyhouse! I built a 22' one 8 yrs ago and last year decided it was too big for me so I sold it and built a 13' one, I love it. I just have a composting bucket myself, had a natureshead in the last one and it was a bit to lift and dump out. I too hope to find a small community of like minded tiny dwellers. I have mine on a recreation lot but its secluded and would like "friends" closer by.
I totally love it !!!!! Forget who thinks that your crazy....I think your smart and I think like you,and I never cared what people says when I like something. You have a beautiful place,God bless you.
The high humidity is mainly related to the structure being too tight. Positive air would would solve that. A wood stove would need an air intake for sure. Really like the truss idea.
There are other options other then an HRV. Opening high in the structure would be my suggestion but its important to have a proper bath fan/window and range vent. I wouldn't recommend a hot roof either. A well insulated vented roof with say Tongue and Groove instead of drywall would also be a good option. Full time living in such a small space will always have its challenges. I would want fresh air just to feel healthy.
Theres lots of variable and more then one option. HRV is just one of many. Countries like Sweden, Norway, and Switzerland use interior membranes that surpass our structures. They use passive systems and have harsh winters. As Americans we are always buying a product like an HRV but its not always necessary.
Awesome lady!! 🤗 i just perches my trailer yesterday and felt the same way like her thinking now i really got to build it there is not turning back. And Yes im super scared and nervios but i want to feel as happy as she is one day. 😍

@Marco Deo My housing costs (last 3 years): max. 100 USD/month: includes electricity (lights, 80liters hot water tank, security system, fridge, heating (heat pump), heat recovery ventilation, air condition etc.), gas (cooking) and water. 42 square meter passive house. Central Europe.
Why dose the "Land Of The Free" have so many rules and restrictions? If the original homesteaders had to build to code, they would have stayed on the coast.
nene w Wow! I read all Laura Ingalls books as a child. I didn’t know that. (Maybe I did & forgot- it was long ago). How frustrating after ALL that work!
in the old days people didnt live as long. Most died before 40. But houses, land and cars were very affordable. We live longer due to science learning what is not good for us and what is. Inflation faster then pay raise contributes a lot to everyone's expense. Bravo to this lady for making it work.

SOME PEOPLE HAVE A REGULAR HOME AND A TINY HOUSE AND THEY THEY ARE MISERABLE
I agree with you about mcmansions - I just don't understand why people THINK they need tons of space. They don't. It's just a status symbol.
London59 And McMansions are UGLY.
Nothing drives me more crazy than instantly rich athletes in their custom mansions to play video games and park their pricey sports cars in.
2 adults, 1 child, 5 bdrm. Gigantipithius house. Why??
The house is adorable, the only little thing missing, for me anyway, is a sweet kitty to come home to at night to meet me at the door. All the very best to you.
Kitties will make a house full of dander and scratch furniture and because I'm allergic to KITTIES
I was thinking the same thing. I was waiting for a kitty when she was putting on her slippers. 😊
I was looking for this comment...I kept thinking, “her life is perfect except a little kitty or dog!”
@pennellkay Cat "pop"?? Hmm..What flavors do they come in?? :-)
I've always had kitty's but I'm allergic to them
Perfect solution for the elderly people who want to live in nature on the budget.
There are Tiny Houses designs that actually have the sleeping area in the main floor, so no loft is required, though many also have lower sleeping areas and lofts as storage, I do also think that tiny homes are a great way to allow elderly to have their own space without having to stick them into a nursing home!
Not just the elderly. It's good for all the non materialistic people who don't see a need in a huge house. Not everyone is a show off
Sarah Morton I agree with you.

This very idea would solve problem of homelessness. If western counties were serious about solving it they would definitely support small housing.
Well said i totally agree with you on this one. There are homeless people every where yet we have homes that not have been lived in for years and years and that are empty
Andrzej Sati Very true!!
Absolutely agree 👍

My immediate thought exactly! I know non-ex's that wouldnt do this! Lucky lady
I love the pantry doubling as the bathroom door! What a great idea.

~ Sherry
CPR - Craft Pray Repeat That is good information thank you .

Non vented propane heat will cause condensation on the windows, regardless of what you do.

@Jaime Alonzo My daughter, son-in-law and 4 children live in a 3 bedroom 1 bathroom 1100 sf home! They are minimalists though so they fit nicely!
Wrong. I use my space.

Is 140/month subsidized? I've never imagined Sweeden being "low rent".
nene he bought the apartment, so none can throw him out.
Well put! 😊
Midnight blue if you have your own you dont have to pay for that means less taxes that's what it's all about government has their hands out
I believe it’s because it can be moved as it sits on a trailer.
Your house is beauitful.
I agree
I love to visit stately homes and always find myself most strongly attracted to the gatekeeper's lodge or the gamekeeper's cottage or similar small dwelling!

Ann Tucker until the good ol government burns it to the ground
Probably they say it’s illegal because they aren’t getting any money off you x
I'm so happy for these ladies living alone in tiny homes. They are my inspiration. Good for them🙏❤😀♻️🐼📚

Her ex-husband responded with an "absolutely" when this she asked him for help. One wonders why they aren't still married, given his zealous attitude.
Maybe he preferred living alone too. Lots of us do. 👍
Tiny woodstove would solve problem with humidity, otherwise perfect little house ;).
That's a great idea, she could maybe add the Cubic Mini or something like that, it doesn't take too much space. Thanks for watching :)
Michael Lubek I agree.. it be great to have one too.
