Other than Hendricks white people never give a person of color credit for being a great guitarist, a couple of the greatest guitarists lead and bass plus acoustic are people of color, B.B.King, John Lee Hooker, Carlos Santana, Ernie Isley, Janice Marie Johnson, Louis Johnson just to name a few great guitarists who will never be considered as great as their white counterparts, but could hold their own against any of them

Prince was being extra because he was left off the top 100 guitarist of all time list by rolling stone. He literally rehearsed for 20 min (said "I got it and left) and they were worried because he didn't show up for another practice. He came to show knew the Rolling Stone editor was in the crowd and the rest is as we say history. So yes he was hyped to be inducted but that was a hold my beer moment for Prince. The blonde is Tom Petty.
The other one singing is Jeff Lynne, lead of ELO and also a very successful producer and fellow traveling Wilbury.
Steve Winwood is on keyboards. He's a star in his own right.
The young man behind Tom Petty is Dhani Harrison, George's son. This was a memorial for his dad. Petty and Lynne were close to George and were basically uncles to Dhani, you can see a couple of looks between Tom and Dhani.
Prince did not hang with that crowd, but he was asked because he was going to be there for his own induction.
McCartney is not part of this.
Edit to add: Bob Dylan, the other living Wilbury, was away on tour at the time.

    • @Jessica_Roth

Steve Winwood started as the lead singer for the Spencer Davis Group…at age 16.
Then he founded Traffic, which was a great band, with Dave Mason. After a few years, Mason left for a solo career (his solo work is also OUTSTANDING) and Traffic broke up.
Steve then got together with Eric Clapton (who had been with Cream, who broke up because the other two guys were fighting all the time), and they founded Blind Faith. But after one record and a tour, Clapton pulled the plug, because things were getting too high profile, and he still needed time to decompress after Cream. (Also because of his personal life; Clapton was falling in love with George Harrison's wife, Patty. [They later married.])
So Winwood re-formed Traffic without Mason, and they went on for several years. (Their most-famous songs are from this period.). Eventually they broke up again, although they would occasionally re-form from special occasions, such as the Woodstock 25th Anniversary concert in 1994.
Then Steve had a solo career, which fizzled out for a while…before he had a HUGE comeback in the late 1980s.
He was inducted into the Hall of Fame with Traffic at this same ceremony. It's also arguable he should be in as a solo artist as well, but that hasn't happened yet. (Had Blind Faith stayed together for longer than one album, he might be in the Hall THREE times.)

He was known as a master guitar player from the beginning of his career. He was a highly rated guitar player. Was never underated.

The fact Prince didn't sing was great,it showed his great talent as a guitar player, was up there with older legends showing them he was one too. Great song! Great rendition. Most those guys have unfortunately passed. Was lucky to meet Prince twice,in obscure places.

When Prince threw his guitar at the end, it was his assistant (guitar tech?), the same guy who he leaned back on earlier, who caught it. He knew it was coming so he was ready for it: they'd agreed the stunt earlier. Not sure how many other people on stage knew in advance though.

@@scapito supposedly not even Oprah knew that was coming (the tech was told to hand her the guitar). Side note : petty told the others that prince was going to show them up big time. He went to one rehearsal and half assed it but petty knew prince was a bad ass.

The guy that pushed Prince back up on the stage was the guy who caught the guitar at the end, and if you notice when Prince throws it he looks back to make sure his bodyguard caught it.

The blonde singer was Tom Petty. The guy in the blue hat was Jeff Lynne. The guy playing the organ in the suit jacket was Steve Winwood. The black-haired kid with the acoustic guitar who looked like he was happy just to be on stage was Dhani Harrison, the late, legendary George Harrison's son. (George Harrison being the original writer and performer of this song, as well as being one of the Beatles.)
    And Prince was Prince.
The other musicians were two members of the Heartbreakers (Tom Petty's band), one member of the Electric Light Orchestra (Jeff Lynne's band), and the rest were from Prince's backup band.,

I watched this when it first aired and until then, I had absolutely no idea just how great of a guitar player Prince was. I knew he could play, but thought he was more of just a rhythm guitar player. But he was amazingly skilled and talented.

when ever you see a group of assorted artist jamming together on stage, I think of a Tribute. As this is one the best underrated song from the Beatles. But all these artists are tops in the game in there own right, playing a masterpiece of a song, so incredible. First time I am hearing this rendition myself
and Yes, the solo was so lively, the original version was more tame but still had that fire to it.

One of the three " And That Is How It's Done" performances of all time. Elvis' live performance of "Suspicious Minds", Queens Live Aid performance and THIS! Prince pulled a complete Hendrix on that solo. If he could have out right had sex with it he would have. Apparently he threw the guitar to Oprah Winfrey.

Well, actually Prince threw the guitar up backwards, and Dhani Harrison caught it as it fell down. And that seemed so apt since this song was a tribute to George Harrison.

This is my favorite music video on all of UA-cam! These are legends of rock ‘n’ roll come together to celebrate George Harrison. And his beautiful son in the background fully amazed by what’s going on with the prince everyone on that stage must’ve been blown away. I am blown away. Love you Lex he definitely did kill it! Truly rock ‘n’ roll and it’s finest react to Steve Winwood who was on keyboards he is a legend and so is Jeff Lynne from the great band ELO. Peace from New Jersey 🙏🏻☮️
