      there have been a few really, really good mods. Noticeably the one where they just buy a new car or the episode where they had this old car and ripped the engine, transmission etc out and put a diesel engine in (and not much other fancy stuff).

      I used to love watching Stacy David on the weekends when Speed did the Powerblock, I was always more interested in more of the nuts and bolts of wrenching on cars and trucks and working on muscle cars and classic trucks rather than the early 00s tuner car scene. Those shows are alittle dated and some of them were somewhat hamfisted with the sponsorships, but they did pave the way for the more DIY/Project car type shows that we see on UA-cam now and have aged pretty darn well as compared to Pimp my Ride and the other more over the top reality car shows

    My favorite early 2000s show was the TLC show called Junkyard Wars (Scrapheap Challenge was the British version). You had 10 hours in a junkyard to build whatever the challenge was. And then the next day they would compete in the challenge to see who would win. It was an awesome show that showed a lot of innovative fabrications and engineering. Now my new favorite car show is Roadkill and Roadkill garage, from Motortrend.

Chat rooms, forums... ...it actually was a better place. Sure, there were trolls and flame wars, but the people had some level of intelligence. They actually had to know how to plug in a computer and install software. It weeded a lot of the ignorance we see today out. Companies like instagram and twitter would have never survived then, because why on earth would people use it? Same, I grew up in the 90's and 00's watching these shows on lazy weekends with my dad. Good times, definitely gave me the modding itch that got me into cars. Just finished my first serious custom modification to my car too. Everything else like the ECU, coilovers, and brakes were just drop ins. Now I have a full custom carbon fiber aluminum honeycomb foam sandwich subwoofer box molded to fit my spare tire bay. Extremely light for its size but very rigid and well damped. My own way, 20 years later, of honoring the shows that got me into cars.

  • @saviordream
    @saviordream 4 роки тому +6

    The 2000s were when I first really started getting into cars, especially the import scene. While I watched a bunch of build shows, I think my favorite was Tuner Transformation on the Speed Channel. Focused mainly on the sport compact scene, but they seemed to care more about performance than they did about the looks or crazy body kits that a lot of the shows relied on. They had those too, but my favorite episodes were the ones where they just tried to build a faster, better handling car. Really wish that show was still on...

      Yes me too. can actually learn something. Ed China was pretty good at fixing almost anything. The new guy Ant is ok I guess.

      Yup, although havent watched the show with the new guy who replaced Ed China. Some of the auto channels on UA-cam are great too.

      Even the French version of it is cool, and for some random reason I live 300m away from where it's shot.

    Overhaulin with chip foose was the best car upgrade show... Real mechanical upgrades , dyno testing , excellent paint , foose rims... yea.. the best

    SO YOU WANNA BE A PLAYA
    BUT YOUR WHEELS AIN'T FLY
    YOU GOTTA HIT US UP
    TO GET A PIMPED OUT RIDE
    the truth is, it wasn't pimp my ride, it was "punked my ride"

    Loved these shows but watching this reminded me about Junkyard Wars. Not always cars but still a great show for mechanic stuff
