      How do you deal with damaged personal property that doesn't have receipts or know what year you purchased it? Is it still eligible under the personal property claim?

    I can't thank you enough for sharing your story. We were hit four years ago by Hurricane Matthew then Hurricane Irma the next year before our home was fixed. We are still fighting State Farm to fix our home and pay for our lost property.(oh and no ALE payments for the last 2 years!) It should be illegal what they do to people. Thank you so much for letting us know we're not alone. We keep our faith that God is working during all of this time, but sometimes can't help but feel like the Isreallites wandering for the last four years! LOL! Being both physically disabled has made this whole process even more taxing. Thank you for the info on the property list keeping. And YES everything in writing or tell them you are recording your calls! Of course then they tend not to talk with us!! LOL. Later it really does help as you battle to get the payments on what you are really due because of your loss. And don't even get me started on the judgments....Lord forgive them for they know NOT what they do.
    You're young, healthy and have two babies and hearing it's been difficult on you, so Hearing your story also helped me feel not so hard on myself for not being more organized and for feeling overwhelmed. Part of working on the inventory list that has been my issue is well we had the initial loss of items from water and electric damage but the items we moved to a "climate controlled" storage turned out to be not working so those things got molded. So now we have two storages full of things that we have to somehow get all pulled out and re'inventory what was molded/broken/damaged from the storage problems.
    I would add that contacting your state Department of Insurance sometimes can help in your battle against the insurance company. Attorney's and property adjusters have their own agenda of making money for themselves which decreases what you get to fix your home and replace your property. I know am also writing all of my Florida state insurance committee chairpersons to alert them to what has happened to so many hurricane victims. FEMA doesn't help at all if you have insurance. Sorry this was so long. I just wanted to truly let you know I appreciate you shining a light on this issue. God bless you and your family.

    I actually do keep an inventory on everything that has a model and serial number. I email it to myself and will update the email to reflect that I've added new items. (Example: I'm on email title "Home Inventory 4)
    I use email because I can access it even if I lose all the contents of my home or say something far worse such as a grid down scenario. Such an event would render a bank lock box inaccessible.
    However email can be accessed anytime.

    • @drivensaver7926
      @drivensaver7926  3 роки тому +2

      This is so smart! And I agree with email or google drive or something like that. If a fire were to happen, there is no guarantee that anything in the house would be salvageable. You are ahead of me in this game. I need to work on something similar. Thanks for the tip. That seems manageable!

    • @unherdac
      @unherdac 3 роки тому +2

      I initially created my inventory in the event of a burglary. One of the things law enforcement asks for during a burglary report is, "Do you have insurance?"
      I admit, I still need to finish taking my pictures - actually forgot about them until your video. I initially took them with my phone so they're now "in the cloud". I also stored most of them on USB flash drive and set the drive to not be over-written.
      Something else I did was scan all my important documents - SSN, home deed, insurance policies, etc. Those copies are stored in a bank lock box, on USB thumb drive and of course physical copies in a fire resistant safe.
      Only thing that stinks about that is that I usually change insurance companies every 4 - 5 years or so.... Gotta keep them insurance companies honest ya know?

    • @drivensaver7926
      @drivensaver7926  3 роки тому +1

      That is smart about taking pictures of important documents as well. Thankfully after our fire, all that stuff was ok in a fire resistant box. I don't know what we would have done if our house would have been a complete loss and that would have not made it. Great tips. Just adding to my to do list of things I should work on!

    I just went through a 5,000 item content list with a fine tooth comb. I found over 5k of mainly small items. Do your diligence, it pays off. Also pay for the RCV Endorsement on your policy then you will get the FULL cost of your stuff. It's worth it.

      So I have a question perhaps on all this as I'm going through the fun process of a fire from 1 ¹/² months ago . So when they calculate let's say on a very expensive TV do they go off the msrp and devalue it like that or ? I personally don't care about my bedroom TV but my living room TV was samsungs top model in 2015 . I read somewhere that TV get depreciated by 5 percent off per year off one website . Heck you can't even buy a new 3d tv anymore and that was the sole reason I went all in on the thing. Oh and like my bmx bikes that I've been acquiring they're all 90s bikes and hate them thinking that they passed their life expectancy. I had so much freaking cool crap which most was salvaged but still over 1400 items gone. I feel like I'm in LA la land and just hoping these insurance companies don't just lowball and throw a couple peanuts at me . I knew I should of gotten a bigger policy but the lady I talked to originally thought 50k was more then enough. I believe my record collection is OK but crap that alone is worth probably close to 30 k on itself. I'm so glad I'm alive and we caught it and acted quickly but soo much freaking cool stuff . It took years getting

      @Stupid_you_so_stoopid_UHF Hi, I am sorry to hear about your fire. It's such a headache going through this. It really depends on your policy if you have a ACV actual cash value OR a RCV replacement cost value. Our RCV was a additional endorsement on my policy we paid for, but it came in handy. If you have ACV then your stuff I believe will be reimbursed at what your items are worth now (dont quote me, read your policy and KNOWING it will come in handy in this fight). If you have the RCV they have to pay for what It would cost to replace NOW (today's prices) for the SAME LIKE KIND AND QUALITY (important!). This will help while determining what your owed. You would be surprised how much more things cost to replace these days. If you have items being cleaned by a restoration company I would make sure to go through those items first before paying them. Our insurance paid them directly and in the end the cleaning job was terrible we gave most of it away, after they got their 90k. We also fired our Adjuster because he was unwilling to work with additional damages the restoration company caused with our appliances and damage to our new floors. In the end we recieved 11k more than what the previous Adjuster was willing to give. Don't settle for anything less than what your owed, it may take time but they will eventually settle.

    We are just beginning our inventory after a fire left the contents of our house a total loss. I think we might be in over our head, do we need to put values to the items, or does the insurance company determine the value? Also, will we get a lump some check at any point or is it little by little as we replace things. It took 20 years to acquire what we had, I can't see replacement being a quick weekend task

    • @drivensaver7926
      @drivensaver7926  2 роки тому

      All insurance companies are different. In our experience, insurance assigned the value and then we were able to contest it. We were given a lump sum of part of the value. Then once we submitted the receipts we got the rest. I have heard of insurance companies just giving a lump sum. I would ask and see how they are going to handle it.

    • @drivensaver7926
      @drivensaver7926  2 роки тому +3

      Is the insurance company saying you have to have receipts? That is almost completely impossible after a complete loss, so I would think they would accept something else. What we did was to go to websites and provide links for something that is similar. For example if we had a double reclining laz-y-boy sofa, we found that on their website and submitted it. We made an Excel document of those things to make it easier for everyone. If this doesn't work, let me know and I can help you brainstorm some other ideas.

      No, you do not automatically get the amount you are covered for. You must list every single item you lose. The exception for me was I could list 12 pr underwear, 15 pairs of socks, etc. My ins was with State Farm and I had to list brand name, age of items in months and years, cost to replace. They will not pay full cost until I purchase the new items only the depreciation. It will drive you absolutely insane tryinv to complete the inventory. Then you better have a LOT of credit available to you to purchase tgr new items THEN turn the multitude of receipts in to get reimbursed to pay your credit cards off. It took State Farm THREE MONTHS to send me the money after I bought everything. I accumulated hundreds of dollars in interest charges waiting on $67,000 from them! The whole process should be illegal! I truly believe it is set up this way to wear you down to a babbling idiot and throw your hands up and say I give up! It is a horrible experience. I worked in high level corporate America for many years . I thought the stress there was horrific but it was NOTHING compared to my house being destroyed and dealing with the insurance. I had the highest level of REPLACEMENT COST for the structure and contents .

    • @drivensaver7926
      @drivensaver7926  3 роки тому +3

      Thanks for your comment. The point of this video is more if you have suffered a loss. In that case, yes you are going to want to list everything because you are going to want to be reimbursed. If you don't do that when you do an inventory before, that would make sense.

    • @le_th_
      @le_th_ 2 роки тому

      You sound like you work for an insurance company, Red Ciroc. Only the insurance companies do NOT want you to document every little thing because then they can deny you ever had it and they don't have to honor their end of the insurance bargain and reimburse you for it.
      That is how insurance is supposed to work you pay your premiums on time and they might reimburse you if you suffer a loss.
      So, sure...if you're a sucker and want to allow the insurance company to screw you over on what they SHOULD then, by all means, leave off that $10-15 (if not more) bottle of laundry detergent. Hopefully, you're not a Costco shopper because then your JUMBO Mormon-family-size laundry detergent that you paid $35-$40 bucks for will be like you rolled down your car window and tossed it out.
      Insurance companies LOVE lazy, sloppy members who won't hold them accountable, and you can be SURE they'll hold YOU accountable, though.
