    I came across a socket in my house when redecorating that someone had used a wood screw to hold the socket on . So it wrecked the thread . Tried that rethreading tool but the hole was to wide . I was just about to dig out the box when I came across this clip . Just ordered them thanks for saving me digging the box out .

    I made something similar using a new backbox cut the lug bit..then used heat shrink to hold it over damaged thread..took me ages it worked but what a pain

    That's weird, a new backbox costs 50p and one of these saver things is £5.99.
    Surely that doesn't make sense.

      True, but when the box is tiled around, in an expensive kitchen, and your van is down the road on a meter, £5.99 to secure the switch quickly and easily, is very cost effective indeed...

    Neat idea ... I have superglued a nut behind the lug, your solution is quicker.

    Hi - I have a broken screw in the back box (the screw snapped when tightening up the front plate to the back box - do you have any advice on how to get the broken screw out pls? thanks

    • @klondike2020
      @klondike2020  5 років тому

      Hi John, Switch off the power first. Remove the other screw that's securing the switch plate, so you can lift the front plate out of the way. If the screw has snapped off cleanly, you might be able to grasp it with a pair of fine pliers, rotating it so that it either comes out, or goes forward and falls into the box. It's hard to be more specific without seeing it. Trust this helps though.

    What can I do if the lug has sheered off? Replace the whole box?

    • @klondike2020
      @klondike2020  3 роки тому +2

      Sadly Wendy, that's the only option. You can bodge it with a very long screw into the bottom of the box, but it's not recommended.

    What if the lug itself is broken??
    How to repair it on a concrete wall

      If the lug has snapped off the box, then I’m afraid this kit cannot be used - you’re just going to have to replace the box.

      Ive seen some items on ebay that replaced the whole side with a brace that you can screw in and put a screw into.

    So what are the sticky pads for?

    • @klondike2020
      @klondike2020  6 років тому +3

      Sometimes the lugs are at the top and bottom of the box (those big cooker switches for example), so there is a chance the BBS could drop off the lug. The sticky pad can be used to stop the BBS nut and its sleeve from falling off the lug just while you line up the switch and engage the screw.

    Can you but them in the States.

    • @klondike2020
      @klondike2020  4 роки тому

      Hi Johnny, I’m afraid we don’t actively sell them to the US because you have imperial (inch) screw threads and in Europe we use 3.5mm. The BBS would work, and I have checked with US back boxes that it would fit, but you’d have to use the screw that comes with the kit. So you’d have one US screw and one metric screw. At least your socket would be tight though!
      Message us through the website and we’ll check shipping cost. Thanks!

    • @eliw4232
      @eliw4232 4 роки тому

      Because the face plates are a separate component from the outlet itself in the US, the different screw would be covered up so it really wouldn't matter.
      But since it doesn't matter, it makes more sense to just tap it out to a slightly larger screw.
