That is very true. The scriptures say in Colossians 3:16 that we must teach and admonish one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in our hearts unto the Lord. For us to be able to teach and admonish each other through songs, the same verse gives us an idea how, by the word of Christ dwelling in us richly. The songs we sing must adhere to that word of Christ, so that we can teach and admonish one another through them.
This music is NOT by Tim Hughes. It is an ancient Irish musical air called ''O Come You Back my own True Love,'' very well-known in Ireland. This air is also well-known in our sister-country, Scotland, where someone put their lyrics to it, but the tune is so old that I think that O'Carolan, the blind genius bard of Ireland, composed this music to be played on harps.
My favorite version of this song. Should be stated - music is NOT by Tim Hughes. It's an 18th century tune, O Waly Waly, dating to about the time the Watts wrote the text. Am thankful you uploaded it though!
Absolutely beautiful. I'm guessing you mean that the arrangement is by Tim Hughes, because of course this is a very old melody. Beautiful arrangement, though!!
Nice rendition, but did they cut one of the original verses, ''His dying crimson like a robe flowed over his body on the tree, then am I dead to all the world and all the world is dead to me''?
Beautiful song; thanks for uploading. This music isn't by Tim Hughes, however. The tune is actually an old English folk tune dating back to at least the 1700s which was later utilized in the Appalachian region in America and more recently for the hymn "The Gift of Love" in the '70s. It fits well with many hymns because of the meter; I always enjoy hearing it.
Ah, it might be public domain, but someone knew the tune. It came from the old song, "The Water is Wide." Works great for these beautiful Isaac Watts lyrics. Much more fitting than the old folk song lyrics.
It's the great Waley Waley tune used over many years for lots of songs and, with minor tweaks, thousands of other tunes. This is a lovely When I Survey and Kathryn Scott's is my favorite of all time. (also on UA-cam)
I have been searching for this hymn....Soul touching....So meaningful and serious melody to my heart ❤ 💙 💜 💖
A beautiful hymn. Very biblical. Too many songs today don't adhere to sound doctrine. May our lives and crowns be laid at His feet

I love this hymn.
The title of the water is wide is same thing
I'm sure he means the "arrangement" is by Tim Hughes, not the actual melody. This is indeed a beautiful arrangement!
nice music
Water is wide란 제목의 노래로만 알고 너무 좋아라 하는 노래였었는데 이런버젼이 있었네요 좋습니다
translation: "I only knew this tune as "water is wide" but glad to find this version. It's so good!"

Lovely
I think the credits should say arranged by Tim Hughes. This is an old folksong.
