I just recently found out that Luther got the main idea of this song from Psalm 46 - this psalm has been reminding me of God's faithfulness throughout these troubling times. He indeed is a stronghold we can find strength and refuge.

As a military mom, I realized there are many many armed with "cruel hate", one that we can't even understand and it is pointed towards our soldiers as they defend our freedom. I know my son often shared that with me about how it just baffled him that people could hate so much and not even know you. He used to get so tired of being shot at every single day when he was "in theater". I guess their hatred is not ours to understand, what we need to know is a great age old wisdom that is in this song. However, RIGHTLY dividing the Word of Truth should be our focus because it is a more sure word of prophecy (2 Peter 1:19-21) than anything we can produce or get distracted by today. We gotta keep the main thing the main thing. God's Word is Trustworthy.
