You think if his wife knew he’d killed people that she’d still be supportive? And you think that’s admirable? You’re literally insane. In this scene, he flat out says, “I NEVER TALK TO YOU ABOUT MY WORK”. She has NO IDEA what he does. She has no idea he’s a violent sociopath. If she did, she’d either be conflicted, she’d leave, or she’d stay and be in denial. Just like Carmela, whom you hate so much. 🙄

Silvio was a truly unique individual in the game. He was not overly ambitious when it came to positions of power, he could've taken steps to ensure that Tony never came back to the big seat but he acted when he needed to act and stepped aside when the time was right, and was actually content with his fair share as consigliere.
In his short time, he proved to be a good boss with moments like calmly saying 'my time is limited' he's effective and straight to the point. Sadly, he couldn't handle the stress but to be fair, he never wanted it. Look how unhappy Tony is, Sil was always very calm, he just wanted to earn a good living, have some fun and raise a family. Being boss was a level of stress that he didn't want nor need, in fact he was usually just sat there calmly gluing broken things together or eating a snack watching TV awhile the other guys argued.
Tony warned Johnny and also mentioned to Silvio and a few others how being boss is not good. It makes you financially rich but you basically lose everything else that is important in life.
Bobby was often shown as this goofy ass character in early seasons. But the thing is that he was made, even in his first appearance. So he must at least have done SOMETHING to prove himself before hand.

I would have died laughing if Sil would of said "Just when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in" when he and Gab where looking into the mirror. Lol
Sil was a great character and Steven played it beautifully. Initially, he auditioned for the part of Tony Soprano, but HBO executives said they wanted an experienced actor for the part. They were right on the money on that one. Nobody could've played a better Tony than James Gandolfini.
It’s hilarious how Paulie is in disbelief when Sil, the new acting boss, becomes flustered around flowers and starts using his inhaler. I missed that the first time around but this show’s comedic timing juxtaposed with the seriousness/drama was so top notch.
At first i was bored with Silvio at the start of the show, but if you really watch his interactions & listen in on his input, he is easily the most intelligent & cunning mobster aside from Tony. He did handle business as acting boss & he'd make a great boss of the family. He runs the Bada Bing fairly well as a real money-maker. Not to mention i love seeing him read the newspapers while the strippers are dancing lol there is something very cool and old school gangster about it.
boganus699 No. Im saying that van Zandt had some connections with Norway because he spent several vacations there. (Think he owns a house there but not sure if he did during the Sopranos).
Sil is my favorite character on the show. He's quiet, calm most of the time and intelligent. Even though he's behind the scene, he's who you want as a right hand man. Loyal till the end.
One thing I have learned from watching mafia movies and shows is that anytime someone says “God forbid” they are really say “Please God let it happen!”
Gabriella Dante was the most well-equipped Mob wife on the entire show. She was all about it and all for it. Totally supportive knowing it was more than "waste management".
What a Perfect wife ! Knows the business and knows how to take care of her man. Beautiful and always beautifully dressed! Those boys know how to live !
Silvio was a good dude. He treated his wife with respect and was a respectable man who never lost control. Aside from having to execute Adriana (which was her and Chris's drug bullshit) he never really did anything unforgivable. Johnny Sack is another guy who treated his wife with 100% respect.
It's funny how Sil says "What, do we speak Norwegian?" at 3:57 and later, Steven Van Zandt stars in Lilyhammer, a Norwegian TV Show about a mob boss in witness protection.
I think Sil is the sort who is capable of leading, but only to a certain extent. I think he did fine as a temp boss, but in the long term would have ended up like Robert Baratheon. He knew that. I like how he knows what he can/can’t/should/shouldn’t do. He knows he’s better as “the man behind the man”.
I can relate to Sil. Doing the actual work involved with being in charge is the easy part. It’s listening to peoples bitching and moaning and settling everyones issues that wears on you. I think a weakness of myself and Sil, is we try to come to a resolution where everyone is happy. Whereas Tony makes his rulings and doesn’t care if he pisses someone off. He’s an imposing figure, so even if they are unhappy with him, theyre too afraid to do anything about it.
Lol cuz it’s a wig. He’s got that rocker hair irl which would ruin his serious number 2 mob demeanor seeing him out on his “wise guy helmet” like he was Darth Vader completing his fit lol
Silvio's character actually originally wasn't planned for the show. David Chase liked Steven Van Zandt so much he had him audition for multiple roles and then realized he should write a character specifically for him.
what Vito says at 3:15 is "vaffannapule" with a Neapolitan inflexion, which is a slightly more polite version of "vaffanculo" , which means "go take it up your ass" - his version is "go take it up to Naples", which is nonsense used to avoid saying the word "culo", ass
I like how Silvio unlike all the other characters knows his strengths and weaknesses. He knows outright he’s not boss material, but he can advise, he’s got good strategy, and generally tries to keep the peace as much as he possibly can. Extremely self aware.

Sil is my favorite character on the show. He's quiet, calm most of the time and intelligent. Even though he's behind the scene, he's who you want as a right hand man. Loyal till the end.
Sil looking at himself in the mirror, with the lady on him is a money shot.... and temptation itself. Yet, he refrains.... brilliant and solid.
its amazing that sil's actor is a musician and vito's a professional chef before sopranos
they acted like they had years of experience
I could never be boss because I'd side with Bobby by default at every sit-down.
“I never talk to you about my work.” Sil always quoting The Godfather 😂
I love Sil’s defining of “For the time being.” … “For Now.”
One thing I have learned from watching mafia movies and shows is that anytime someone says “God forbid” they are really say “Please God let it happen!”
Silvio's wife is a type of wife we all should get us. 👏👏👏
Gabriella Dante was the most well-equipped Mob wife on the entire show. She was all about it and all for it. Totally supportive knowing it was more than "waste management".
Silvio easily is the best dressed on the show. Always looks like a million bucks.
"What do I speak Norwegian" is hilarious after Steve Van zandt ends up on Lillehammer 😅
love how Paulie still has to walk funny because of the hit to the jewels
Silvio never had the makings of a varsity mob boss
Go get sil’s shine box
He definitely did...
im so done wit these fk coments
neither did Tony
2:22 I CANNOT with the walk in🤣🤣🤣
What a Perfect wife ! Knows the business and knows how to take care of her man. Beautiful and always beautifully dressed! Those boys know how to live !
Sil loved hearing the word "skip". Couldn't steer a boat if his life depended on it. A much better number two.
Behind every strong man, there's a strong woman. Sil and Gab are a wonderful example of this
"speaking Norwegian." Unintended foreshadowing, there
Silvio was a good dude. He treated his wife with respect and was a respectable man who never lost control. Aside from having to execute Adriana (which was her and Chris's drug bullshit) he never really did anything unforgivable. Johnny Sack is another guy who treated his wife with 100% respect.
Totally agree, if you have a shift at the Bing and youre sick, you better be there.
just when he thought he was out
They pull him back in
"What am I speaking? Norwegian?"
sooner than you think...
It's funny how Sil says "What, do we speak Norwegian?" at 3:57 and later, Steven Van Zandt stars in Lilyhammer, a Norwegian TV Show about a mob boss in witness protection.
Supportive women like Sils wife are truly a dying breed. Lucky bastard
"This fuckin guy" I love that expression.
02:07. The body wiggle when he says 'sssstradegeee' always cracks me up.
Silvio would make a great boss. Smart, level headed, firm, and he commands respect.
Sil’s wife is what every good, loyal, hardworking man needs.
That's a perfect comparison, I'd also use Stringer Bell as an example of a Good Temp Boss, but a Bad Perm Boss.
I guess boss was a position that was too much for Silvio. Especially when his best friend was in a coma.
Silvio was my favourite character on the show. He had this flair about the way he did everything and his facial expressions had a script of their own.
"Memo: get some coffee up to Carmela's house."
"what, you're speaking Norwegian?!" Lilyhammer right there....
I like this scene: a man who doesn’t want the #1 spot is doing a great job managing the crews.
After watching Lillyhammer that "what do you speak, Norwegian?" quote is very interesting!
Sil's wife: "Phil did 20 fucking years before he made boss"
I can relate to Sil. Doing the actual work involved with being in charge is the easy part. It’s listening to peoples bitching and moaning and settling everyones issues that wears on you.
I think a weakness of myself and Sil, is we try to come to a resolution where everyone is happy. Whereas Tony makes his rulings and doesn’t care if he pisses someone off. He’s an imposing figure, so even if they are unhappy with him, theyre too afraid to do anything about it.
They never once show sil’s hair routine.
It is nice to see a wife proud of her husband to be acting boss. Now that there, is true love.
"Times makes the man, honey, not the other way around". She's been reading up on her Engels, huh!
“What are we speaking Norwegian” Sil foreshadowing a move to Lilyhammer
Same house as Sopranos, they just changed kitchen cabinets
His ruling on the tasty freeze route was actually wise.
