WARRIOR DANCERS of DINAGYANG | Iloilo City, Philippines
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 вер 2018
- Iloilo City, Philippines - The Ati Tribe Competition is the main attraction at the Dinagyang Festival. 10 High School Groups from around the Visayas region of The Philippines compete in a choreographed rhythm and dance.
Each of the 10 groups represent a unique Ati Tribe, and they highlight specific cultural aspects of that tribe. For example, some tribes were hunters while others were fisherman.
Within the dance, each group demonstrates how the tribes were affected by the arrival of Catholicism (and Santo Nino) to the Philippines.
The Dinagyang Festival was very unique compared to the Sinulog Festival I attended in Cebu, just one week before.
The city of Iloilo Philippines was one of my favorite places of the entire trip. Enjoy!

TRAVEL DEEPER.
Hey Friends! Let me be very clear, I shot this video on the last weekend of January. I know I am many months behind. Please understand that I do not treat my videos as "vlogs" but rather more like an episode of a series. I was very behind on my editing when I shot many of these videos, and I didn't want to rush to push them live just to get them over with. I want to take time with each video and give the people, place, and moment its proper respect, information, and appreciation.
I hope this makes sense, and I hope this clears up any confusion in the comments. My goal is to get caught up with this Travel Deeper Philippines series so that my next videos coming out will be much more timely. I apologize for any misunderstandings and I hope you still enjoy the videos!
With that being said, I am looking to hire a new video editor, so If you know of any great video editors, please send me a DM via Instagram instagram.com/tourist2townie
Otherwise, I will see you all next week from Dumaguete!
Gareth Leonard i love watching your videos, and i really appreciate that u take the time to edit each episode so that we could actually watch an event or occasion instead of just watching a vlogger of no importance information. So, thank you for making your videos not only very interesting but informative as well.
No apologies necessary. Every one of your videos is 10/10
Gareth Leonard and u told in your first vlog part 1 of dinagyang that sinulog was far better than dinagyang..
@@charlesmaersk5235 well, every country has its good and bad sides..
I can not believe people are complaining about this video. There was no disrespect involved and it is clear you enjoy telling the story of the event/area through a foreign lense. It's better to take the time you need on your videos to produce the best video you can. It's the quality that counts. Anyways happy travels!
Dinagyang Festival of Iloilo was Awarded as the Best Tourism event in the Philippines! The only Festival that states the Story line Clearly. Best energy of dancing, best choreography and the most artistic festival ever. Iloilo Dinagyang is now the center of influence of Philippine Festival.
Basta ilonggo proud taya❤❤❤
used by warrior dancers of dinagyang
-for my assignment pleasee
The shots of the warrior dancers were crisp. Great job !
From the first day that you've arrived in the Philippines to this Iloilo video, these were the 1st videos I've seen of yours. As a Filipino-born, Los Angeles-grown dude, I applaud the quality of your videos, the amount of time you must have spent 'editing'(which turned out superb results), the angles, location of the camera shots, the narration, etc. All of those detail stuff EASILY could be taken for granted by your "audience/viewers" but I just want to take this time to Show LOVE and ENCOURAGEMENT. Traveling in a foreign land isn't "a walk in a park" as we say in the U.S., there's different factors that comes into play(the weather, transportation, politic stuff, etc) but you make it look EASY and ENJOYABLE. Most Importantly, you manage to have a "sensibility" in your videos that helped capture more than just "sights and structures", You've helped capture the "ESSENCE" of the CULTURE(My Kababayan, the food, Filipino hospitality, My Filipinos' sense of humor, etc.)...Awesome stuff! I've already hit the SUBSCRIBE button just like Everyone should that stumbles upon your videos. I'm taking notes, Keep doing your thing, brother!!!
I was born and raised here in Iloilo City “The City of Love” and I am so grateful to you for sharing and introducing our culture and traditions to the world Gareth 💕
Whoa! That must of been incredible!
YUP BERIT TRY TO VISIT ILOILO CITY IN DINAGYANG 2020
This is so amazing, Gareth! I love seeing and learning about different festivals around the world. Truly fascinating. The costumes are gorgeous and vibrant, the dancers' choreography is awe-inspiring, and the shots you got of everything are some of the most beautiful I've ever seen. The steamed bun you had looks delicious, too! Stunning video, man!!
Thank you Brandon! It was an amazing show, right up there with Carnaval in Rio for me, only much more warm and inviting. I hope to be back next year as well!
Gareth Leonard You're welcome! I hope you get to go back, too!
the dinagyang tribe competition was held every 4th sunday of january...on the 4th saturday was the kasadyahan festival
Gareth your vlogs are down to earth your humble luv the fact you just blend with everybody god bless from California
That means the world to me Jimmy. Thank you.
Yes ended he's humble and his good what he does, he respect Filipinos coulter, and his very friendly to the people, that's what I like to see the American vloger , stay safe always ❣️💞❣️💞
The locals really take so much pride in festivals like this and prepare for it a year in advance. This is their way of life and as you can witness the result, watching your video has made me experience this which I haven't yet, being a filipino and all, and transcended me to this very moment, I can just imagine how much it would actually feel being there in person, but this is the closest deal without having to spend a dime at all. Thanks for taking me along with you Gareth.
Yes, a lot of filipino people take so much pride in the festivals in the philippines, different regions of a province would practice choreography, design costumes and go to the parades/festivals just to represent their tribe/tradition
Kuya we only prepare a few months before not a year. Participants majority high school students or those tambays. It became the tradition. Panay was bought by Malay ancestors from the Aeta tribe with a big giant Golden hat and a long gold necklace. They divided the city into 3 lead by 3 Datus. This history was passed on by oral descendants. Pirot song "Barter/Purchase of Panay " captured the legend of this festival. Each island in the Philippines has its own legend and history. I guess yours is different.
Iloilo Dinagyang Festival is a multi-grandslam winner for the best tourism event in the the Philippines. I AM ILOILO Proud to be ILONGGO and Proud to be FILIPINO. 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
Thanks Gareth for visiting the city of love. You are always welcome here in Iloilo.

From City of Love, Iloilo! 💕
Thanks for posting a video of the dinagyang. I miss it too much. I"ve been working in the middle east for 13 years and my vacations are usually in May and December. When I was still a student in Iloilo City, I watched Dinagyang yearly and on two occasions was a cadet guard. One day I'll be there again. Palangga ko gid ang Iloilo!
Thanks for watching Alex! I hope to be back again also!!
I looooooooooove the editing, especially that girl's slow turn! That look in her eyes! Woot!
Congrats u witness dinagyang im from iloilo too
Your the first vlogger that showed this! It is awesome!
Thank you very much for featuring the Philippines' grandest festival, Dinagyang Festival!
I'm really proud of our festivals here in the Philippines... Appreciate it very much that you came ang cover it
Thank you for capturing everything that makes this celebration unique and special! The music, the colors, the emotions of the people, and the pride of the culture...this was such a great video and made me feel like I was there too! Thank you, love your work!
I am from Iloilo and I am very happy to see that you really enjoyed the Dinagyang Festival and the Iloilo City itself. Thank you for taking the city to the world.
Great edit on the tribal dances. I don't know why I got emotional watching that segment. I think focusing on the dancers more than the choreography/spectacle itself made it more "human". I could feel how much work and passion went into these dances. Great job Gareth, i love your editing style!
Wow look at that! I was mesmerized..
From Iloilo Here. Thank you G. It is Amazing, fantastnative Ati-atihan Dinagyang in Iloilo.
Incredible!!! This is the best vlog series on UA-cam so far (to be honest). This is also the only vlog that shows the other side, the uncommon, the unique, the undiscovered part of the philippines so far (again, to be honest). Can we have an awarding ceremony for vloggers? I'm sure this will garner multiple awards (esp. cinematography).
Thanks for visiting our place and showing our culture to the world.
i love how you show how the locals live, even politicians make it to your videos. this is so beautiful
Love the cinematography! Thanks for featuring Iloilo City and the Dinagyang Festival :)
Thank you Gareth..
Im from Philippines in City of Love Iloilo.. Im proud Ilonggo!!
I grew up watching this and i could say that it gets better each year.I love this festival because of the energetic choreographic dances, the beat of the drums, the face paints, the costumes and most of all the effort and hardwork that each participants invested on their performances!
Amazing Jennifer, it was such a moving and emotional show to witness! I want to visit every year!!
Really, that would be great! I' m glad to know that, you'll be welcome everytime☺!
Proud Ilongga here, thanks for featuring our very own festival..
Wow! Amazing... i wish i am there to witness the festival...
Spectacular edit! Watching from Dubai. Makes me miss home so much.
Thank you Lhester! Dubai is an amazing place too!
Gareth Leonard Indeed it is, but as they say, there's no place like home. I hope you'd get the chance to visit Philippines again, specifically in Panay island where Iloilo City is, it is somehow overlooked by a lot of travellers, bur if you do a little bit of research, it is an incredible place to travel to with beaches and waterfalls that are untouched that is waiting to be discovered. I hope next time, you'd travel there more and let the world see how beautiful Panay island is. Stay safe and travel more.
I'm from Iloilo. Thank you for visiting our province. Proud to be Ilonggo here💙
ILOILO the City of LOVE...I don't know why but I was a part of that festival growing in high school there. Few calluses walking around the old city performing in several stages in the 80's. Colorful capture of dancers except politicians. Welcome to Iloilo.
I'm glad u like my City....I am an ilonggo a born in Iloilo City but working here in Singapore for 15yrs now

Great vlog about Dinagyang! I stumbled upon your video while searching for the 2019 Dinagyang performances that happened last weekend. We were there last Sunday at the new Freedom Grandstand to watch the competition and the energy, the costumes, the creativity were incredibly impressive! The intro of some tribes gave me chills. You should be there to feel the energy and excitement.

Thank you for the worthwhile content. It comes across as genuine, not annoying, and actual value. Something that's missing from other vlogger videos who come off as annoying and are clearly just trying to increase their views and subscribers

A feast for the eyes !! it was only through this videos that i see how rich and beautiful our culture was on this part of the country.. unfortunately, Philippine Festivals like these were kinda unpopular from foreign tourists....Great video man!
Dinagyang festival is JUST one of the many festivals we have in this country. I guess, every month, a city or locality celebrates an event. Here are some of my top list:
Sinulog Festival (Cebu)
Ati-Atihan Festival (Aklan)
Dinagyang Festival (ilo-ilo)
Kadayawan Festival (Davao City)
Panagbenga Festival (Baguio City)
Maskara Festival (Bacolod)
and the list goes on... Thanks for showing our cultural heritage on your channel..
Glad you enjoyed Iloilo. I'm proud to be an Ilonggo.
another great Video!
Beautiful and colorful costumes, I like it. 👍👍👍
