    Bought a GTS early this Summer. My first Porsche at 54 years old. Hoping for a white East Tennessee winter this year so I can try it out. Cheers!

    Great to see these higher end vehicles being driven in Canada’s ‘real world’ conditions! Having fun on a ‘snow day’😏! Great info for the first time buyers!

    THE GREATEST AND MOST ACCURATE REVIEW - I just bought an exact car, and this is my third basic Macan as I cannot afford the S - but, with the extra upgraded horse power it is good enough for the Pacific Northwest.

    By the way, do you have a set of winter and summer tires and wheels, or are you just swapping the tires?

    • @JustinPritchard
      @JustinPritchard  2 місяці тому

      This particular unit was provided by Porsche for testing, so it would have had those winter tires mounted on the factory wheels. If I owned one I would definitely have two separate sets and just swap them over.

    Hey Justin, great video. My wife has a '23 Macan and we've been wondering about the lack of a winter mode and now I know why. Wondering though how and when did you decide to use the Offroad mode when driving in the snow and under what conditions, especially since the torque split is always adjusting in the standard mode. The manual doesn't really go into this that I could find. This system seems like a cool trickle down from rally racing. Thanks!

    • @JustinPritchard
      @JustinPritchard  Рік тому

      Hey there
      So I've driven a lot of AWD porsches in the snow (even a lot of it), and honestly, I almost never use it other than to try it out.
      It's so good in its 'auto' setting that there's rarely need for the 'off-road' mode unless you're in something pretty extreme / risky / challenging / or a driver who really really wants to limit wheelspin and drive cautiously. I don't think most 'Porsche driver' types will find need to turn 'offroad' on in the snow, more throttle solves most issues!
      It's a lovely setup indeed
      Happy motoring
      (PS, comments above based on good winter tires being mounted!)

    I have a Macan GTS and live in Northwest CT. I bought this SUV as I have 3 other Porsche vehicles and wanted an SUV that drives like my 911’s. I drive to Vermont every weekend and even with four dedicated 20 inch snows the vehicle is not great in the snow. I think being staggered wheels may be an issue but this is what dealer recommended. I will try the off road button but I just don’t have confidence driving my Macan in the snow.

    I am one of those conquest shoppers. Looking into the base model. Can you talk more about what are the paddle shifters and how to and when to use them?

    • @JustinPritchard
      @JustinPritchard  2 роки тому +2

      Cool! With your hands at 9 and 3 on the wheel, the paddle shifters would just behind the tips of your fingers.
      You can shift into drive and just drive, like a regular automatic, using the paddle shifters is completely optional. There's no situation in which you are required to use them.
      If you want to, you can use them to override the transmission choices and shift gears when you like. You click the right paddle to shift up, for instance from second to third year. You use the left paddle to shift down, 4th tho 3rd for instance.
      The gear shifts are very responsive and happen very quickly. Paddle shifting is a great way to experience full control over the transmission. Some people use them for sporty driving, others may use them for added control on snow and ice.
      Mostly they're a novelty, but a very entertaining one you'll probably enjoy. You can click away at them and see how the vehicle responds anytime you like.
      It's impossible to select the wrong gear, and you can't hurt the engine, it would just deny the shift.
      Best advice is to just get out and play with it. Have fun, Porsche has this transmission nailed, it's a lot of fun.
      Enjoy!

    some scenes reveal that driving while it's snowing, can be hazardous at night.
    Because I'm seeing snow build up on the headlights at an incredibly fast rate... imagine driving through a snow storm at night on a freeway, no place to safely pull over and your headlights become useless?

    How would you compare this base macan with an alfa romeo stelvio veloce, driving, acceleration, handling, braking, steering feel, interior quality (considering you have driven a stelvio) trying to decide between the two. Stelvio is a better deal in this crazy market, but I like the porsche a little better.

    Justin - I have a mercedes C43 and I've replaced 2 rims due to the crap roads in Toronto and stiff suspension. Would you think this would ride better on choppy city roads ?

    • @JustinPritchard
      @JustinPritchard  2 роки тому +1

      How new of a C43?
      I've always found the AMG stuff to ride HARD on our roads. The Macan is much softer-- sporty, but without the crashing. I found it a really ideal balance as an enthusiastic driver who does a lot of Highway and backroads, ie, comfort matters
      Hope that helps!
