  • Wether we are hunting public or private, we are very mobile and nearly 100% of the time we are hanging a stand on a hunt. What we do may not be the best for you, but we can all learn from each other so feel free to comment what works best for you. In this video, KC hangs his saddle setup with 3 step Hawk sticks in under 5 minutes and also gives a couple of tips on setting up for opportunities at deer as they approach your stand.

    Nice. Sounded like a 200# Squirrel taking metal shop 101 going up that tree. 😉🤣 I understand it's for time and 5 minutes is quick, imo. One tip that I'm trying to get hang of is using the linesman rope with both hands stepping instead of hugging the tree and letting the rope fall on the tree below waist level. Like you see see lumberjacks do. I haven't quite got the "moves" down yet. I'll get it down with more reps. Hopefully your season is in full swing and you're notching tags.

      I use to think stealth strips were overpriced call duct tape. I bought some for my loan wolf sticks and stand. Now I’m a believer! That stuff is awesome!

      @@matthewwebb2709 Yeah, it's definitely worth it, as I'm prone to clinking more metal the more careful that I try to be. I need it idiot proof and those things keep me from being that idiot

    With even a single aider you could add another 3 or 4' to thag height and it won't really take you any longer. I hunt Michigan Public so I use 4 sticks and an aider. That gets me to 22-25' ... I typically don't have issues getting picked off.. but I definitely have with only 3 sticks. Amazing what 5'+ more feet can do for you to not get picked out. I'll have to time my system. But I would think that once i have my set up ready to climb I could do it in 5-7 minutes. It's just getting everything ready to start climbing take a few minutes as well.

    How light, compact, mobile and safe (if done correctly, I'm uncomfortable with heights but have no problem going 30'ish up a tree) the saddle is the reasons I got into it. I hunt only public land and got tired of dragging climbers through the brush and crab every time

  • @matthewwebb2709

    I’ve got a loan wolf assault, I’m going to use that this season. If I think that it can improve, I’m probably going to switch to a saddle. It just looks so much lighter and adaptable. I just didn’t have enough time or money to comfortably switch before the season. I want to give myself enough time to practice with it to be safe enough.

      I’ve been a LW alpha guy for yrs and it’s my absolute go-to. I want the Assault climber. (Ordered one and they sent the same alpha I have🤦🏻‍♂️🙄)
      I started dabbling w the Tethrd saddle a couple yrs ago mostly for doubling up over top of my young son while he’s hunting….
      As far as actually hunting out of it, I prefer my LW all day….Don’t underestimate how much practice is needed in order to feel comfortable maneuvering….(level bubble in sight becomes paramount)
      I set up w the LW the other day in pitch dark and was safely seated comfortably in the dark ready to
      Sling in 13min flat and didn’t make a
      peep getting in around 23-25ft up….(I believe height beats sight and nose)
      Good luck.

    I’m still using the hand climber i keep trying to find a video to convince me that this is faster and I haven’t yet.
    I just have a hard time seeing how a saddle would be better for me. To each his own and I salute all saddle hunters and I want to be one so bad but just can’t see where it would Benefit my style and terrain with mostly pine trees.
    At the end of the day we all have the same goal.
    Thanks for sharing sir.

    What back pack are you using

  • @trxe420
    @trxe420 Рік тому

    Good stuff, 2-3 sticks + an aider + a single V step and most people are 15-18 feet in a tree. One thing I wish all these saddle companies would do is just pre-silence their gear. A simple rubber coating, paracord cobra wrap, hell just some comoform tape. All of us saddle hunters basically do this anyway so why doesn't a company just do it for us. This would be a nice innovation imo.

    Have you thought about putting your steps on the left side of your stand climbing up? It allows you to use that last step as a place to step if leaning around the tree to the 1-2 o’clock position.

    Your setting your sticks with too much angle on your versa strap, that is why your second step is coming off the tree as you step up on it! Dangerous, it will lead to stick kick-out. Angle needs to be as close to 90degrees from stick as possible. Easier to do with other stick attachment methods, the reason I dont use daisy chains/versa straps.

    • @ryanwindham2997
      @ryanwindham2997 2 роки тому

      I use daisy chains with no issues. If they don’t land perfectly on a loop I just run it around the tree a second time or I use it like a rope mod to get it tight to the tree.
