    This is a great stand, period! It's lightweight, climbs easy ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxlQ7TDIrnnSXXbRgFFaxqwullRJJIuYAs and feels solid while in the tree. The seat is easy to fold up for climbing and sits comfortably for long days in the woods. The only downside I have is that it might be too comfortable, but I like napping in the tree anyway. This is the second Summit Viper I have owned. The old one is steel making it heavier, but this aluminum version is about 9-10 lbs lighter. I recommend buying a better fall harness as the one included is clunky and not super comfortable. I think it will work fine if you NEED to use it, but there are lots of other more comfortable options out there.

    One thing I noticed on my Mantis saddle (must have been manufactured wrong) is the leg buckles are facing both in the same direction. Not a big deal but it definitely kinda rubbed me the wrong way, hope the guys from tethrd notice this and up the QC. This will be the first year in a saddle for me and looking forward to the mobility and ease of use for mobile hunting. Lots of benefits for the mobile hunter in my mind. Thanks for the great videos THP and keep them up.

    I’ve been saddle hunting for quite a while. There are some huge benefits. One thing not mentioned here is that the tree is always hiding you from the coming deer. I use 2 sticks at the hunting height so I can slide around and hide from the deer no matter the direction. These movements can be done so quiet it’s crazy. I would recommend the JX3 if you are worried about all day comfort. You can nap in that thing

    At $500+ for the system, that is crazy expensive!

    • @attrezzopox
      @attrezzopox 4 роки тому +6

      $500 once. It's $500 dollars for one system that you can set up and use on hunt day from any tree you'd be able to put a stand in. Stands get bulky. You usually have to pack them in and set them up before hunt day and even if you can pack them in day of they're too much of a pain in the ass to move to change your mind. If you hunt public land and you have to leave them up they're a liability. They can get stolen, lost, and you have to remove them and set them up every season.
      I'd much rather pay $500 for this one system then pay even $100 each for even 2 or 3 regular stands. The extra $$$ is paying for the luxury of having a truly portable hunting platform that works in literally any tree you could hunt and better in trees that a regular stand would be a pain in the ass to set up or even impossible.
      My understanding is you don't want to overhunt a stand. If you never get in the habit of setting up complicated stands and blinds you're not beholden to use locations that may not be your best spot on hunt day.
      I can totally see where having a very portable system like this would be a HUGE advantage by allowing you to change plans with the season as needed rather than to spend a crapload of time setting up a stand you're forced to use in conditions that don't make it a good spot.
      Last way to look at it, how much did you spend on your bow and what's you're average killshot distance with it? If you're in a wooded area probably 20-30 yards or less unless you're just bragging. Anyway, most archery classes say 40 yards and no further. Do you know how many bows you can find that cost less than $500 that will shoot accurately at 30 yards? The answer is LOTS and LOTS of bows will shoot that well for $250 but I bet you spent extra $$ to feel confident that you could make those shots.
      Well... This is a stand that costs more but will allow you to get where you need to be. No excuses, you can get there. All that money spent on that bow is going to shooting foam in the backyard unless you can get to where you need to be. So flipped another way, I'd buy a shitty used bow that can get me to 30 yards and spend the extra $$$ on a stand that will give me a target rather than spend big bucks on my bow to feel nice but on hunt day get stuck in a terrible location where I don't see diddily.

      Thomas Anderson go on Saddlehunter.com (from a PC, the map works better that way) and look for the thread titled “saddle hunter google map” click the link and see if anyone is close to you. You may find someone nearby willing to show you their system.

      I'm 53 and have slipped down, feel over sideways (trying to shoot down over the side, cause the deer came in while I was sitting) dropped the bottom (took me 20 minute to work it back up the tree while I was sitting feet dangling holding on with one hand and pulling with the other, because when you pull up with the tether it just hangs up. I've scared more deer out of the woods with that thing, enough to fill a stadium. Well I could go on but you know.

      My first few times sucked, but now it is absolutely fantastic. Not just about this method, it is that this method allows 50-100 different places that can be hunted instead of the one or two places with a hang-on, a ladder stand, or requiring a perfectly straight tree with no branches for a climber. I've seen more deer on the public land this year and last year than the previous 5 years combined.

      @@LouStoriale I’m right there with you. I was a diehard Summit climber guy. Now I’m a saddle guy. I practiced with mine the summer I got it & by hunting season my process was smooth. I can get in way my trees with the saddle then I ever could my Summit & that’s the reason I get more deer within range. I guarantee that guys that talk shit on this system would absolutely fall in love with it after trying it. #SaddleGang 🦌🦌

    Great vid and super helpful. This is literally the video I’ve been waiting for. Ever since reading Eberhart’s books I’ve wanted to try a saddle system but just haven’t committed yet. 2 Questions:
    1- are Tetherd’s systems endorsed by the TMA? If not can you or they explain why not?
    2- how important are the knee pads and what do you look for in a pair?

Traditional tree climbers just seem so so so much easier and more simple
