Less expensive models with 2-300 miles range. Fast charging batteries and more fast charging stations. Right now ev would take care of about 80% of my driving requirements but I hope they step up to 100%. I still want the choice of ICE vehicles though.
Even being one of those old school manual and naturally aspirated engine loving apes, I think these new EV's are freaking cool. That instant response, even that cheesy space ship noise! I'm here for it. It's not gonna replace something in my garage, but it's such a cool addendum
same here. i hate the idea of batteries wearing out and turning the car into junk, hate the idea of no exhaust, hate the idea of cars pulling from the still dirty electric grid, hate the idea of driving fast draining charge really quickly, and really really hate the idea of having little to no tuning opportunity. but porsche sure killed it with this car, even solved at least the exhaust problem by not making a fake engine noise but giving the ev its own unique noise. and we also need to think about those people who thought "noo my horses it makes this horrible noise while my horse makes a beautiful nayyyyyy sound ew disgusting" when the model t came out.
Despite being fake, I really love the futuristic sound the car makes. It feels like you are driving a space shuttle. Always incredible videos on this channel, keep going dude.
Eh one, maybe two above base model. The Taycan 2WD is coming this year and has less power; it should be just the Taycan S. It then should have a Taycan 4 which should sit just below the Taycan 4S. This is based off other Porsche model naming which have been consistent across their models.

I am an honest to god car enthusiast and I adore electric vehicles, the torque, the silence, the lack of maintenance, perfect for both a daily and a weekend toy. The last couple of years have really shown me how far electric vehicles have come, both with production stuff and with diy stuff and I can't wait for me to reach a point where I can afford to build a nice electric vehicle to have as a toy to play around with
@@miguellopez3392 the idea is, but with the cripplingly bad quality that tesla have, a mainstream car brand has a better advantage over tesla. We should be thankfull to tesla for opening the pandora box, but they are not in the lead anymore.
@@at9670 no it's just generally better, the build quality isn't crippling and it needs to be addressed. Mainstream brands have always had an advantage.
I drove a base Model X a few months ago and it totally changed my perception on electric cars. The placement of the batteries makes it handle really well for its weight, and you can do truly stupid speeds in short spurts and nobody knows. It’s so smooth and it makes so much sense. Made me a fan of electric cars for sure. If I don’t have a manual, the car might as well be electric because it just makes the experience smoother and less clunky! Great video!!
This is why Porsche is my favourite brand. They never fail to make an exciting car, even with EV's. And that's why I would definitely buy a Taycan if I could in the future.
Interestingly, I have had my 4S for about six months and get about 290 miles per charge. I did a 250 mile road trip down the mountain and back up and got 280. The brake feel on mine is as good as my 991 was. The demo I drove did have a little clunk in the gearbox, but this one does not.
3:04 now THATS what I want to hear from a sport EV! It doesnt need to sound like an LFA V10, but it needs to tell me how the car/motor behaves and thats just awesome as hell

Maintanance is indeed costs much-much lower, than an ICE but not only the battery can fail :) It still has suspension, bearings, the landing gear assembly, steering assembly, springs, break fluid, etc. These are still quite complicated things, but overall you are right. No oil and filter changes, no clutch, no valves, no timing belt and other belts, etc

Some people say its not right to call the Turbo version 'Turbo' ... because its Electric. However, in the German language, 'Turbo' generally means 'fast'. So anything that goes fast can be called Turbo.

As someone who has a Manual Porsche Cayman 981 I'm not crazy about EV's however if I had to have one then it has to be the Taycan. Porsche have pulled off such an impressive feat of engineering with this car. Fantastic looking too.

Great review, thanks. The default limit for range mode is 70mph, but can be changed in the PCM up to 87mph / 140kph. I see 260mi range easily at freeway speeds. Also that’s a nice silk wrap.
Great job Ted!! Really love the Porsche brand. It’s very hard to beat the guys from Stuttgart. I think that both Porsche and Mercedes (AMG division) make the best vehicles on the planet. There are more expensive and more desirable cars out there but those guys know how to properly engineer a car.
really liked the vid. finally someone that's driving the car and not spending 50% of the video blabbing about the styling of the infotainment. the one thing you got slightly wrong is when you said that people might not choose a Porsche/non tesla if they already have a tesla wall connector at home; its a common misconception that these at home tesla chargers work differently than a generic wall charger( j1772). Yes they do have some safety stuff like if the power goes out it wont immediately supply power to the car, it has some fancy Bluetooth stuff and lights, but it uses the same electrical supply and communication standard that Cisco and all the others use, just in a different physical connector shape. Both the tesla and j1772 are basically both just a low voltage control box that operates a house mains relay, that when the car signal says "hey supply me power" it powers the relay and the car is basically connected directly to house mains power. thus, if you have a tesla home wall connector ($500 ish) you don't need to replace it if you want to charge another car that has a j1772 connector. yes you will need an adapter. while they are less expensive than changing the full box, its still $100. although there are people that have videos on how to make them yourself but i wouldn't recommend making that your first electrical experience cuz doing it wrong could cause shorts, fires, damage to car bla bla bla
Cool review - regarding the noise that you can select to be heard in the interior, it is my understanding that it is entirely based on the noise coming from the motors and is just amplified. In other words, it’s my understanding that it is not an artificial or made up noise. Regarding the comparative range between Tesla and Porsche EV ‘s, I have read numerous reviews which have shown repeatedly that the actual real world ranges are very similar, which is rather surprising considering how different the EPA figures or as you mentioned. It makes me wonder whether at some point if we’re going to have a Teslagate like VW’s infamous dieselgate come over this time regarding range cheating…
Porsche always understates their specs. While all other makers, including Tesla, overstate their specs. There are Taycan reviews where the car can do over 400km easily or up to 560 km even.
This is why I never will hate Porsche. It's because of the fact that they make and design their vehicles with passion and properly. This, in my opinion, is the only electric vehicle that feels like a car or even just half.
I'm not a fan of the electric door handles and charging port door. I don't know what the repair bill for the door handle motor or filler door sensor is but I'm sure they're not cheap. In my opinion, it adds useless complexity. I want to be able to walk up to the car and open the door, not wait for it to extend to me, same as the filler door, but you use that less so it's a little more forgiveable (and it's part of the electric car futuristic gimmicky things). I think the car looks great and the performance is amazing too. Great video as always, looking forward to the next one!

You're absolutely right. Many car aficionados embrace the electric, where suitable, i.e. daily driving, city slogging, etc. I would love to own an Audi E Tron one day, because that car just works out of the box. When car people make electric cars, things are much better, vs non-car people making cars for the first time (Tesla).

The breaks , the sound, the design and everything about it is cool . I am city guy but if I was daily long distance travel then it will be a bit challenging but for me it works perfectly! You get so much compliments and attentions for a shy guy like me it is a bit too much.
My god how do I get into the position you are in... You are living my literal dream. I would drop everything in order to just be given these cars to drive around and making youtube videos. The only thing I want to keep is living in germany. I gotta admit, it's really frustrating seeing you drive a taycan and then staying below or near 75mph, these cars are made to sit comfortably at 150mph XD My cheap used economy 3 series is perfectly happy at 120mph, it wants to go that speed. Straight as an arrow, just flying across the autobahn.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the Taycan. Even , yes, as a dedicated 987 Cayman driver. I just wish I could afford one. (would I sell my 987? No. Never. Still....)
The reason why the brakes dont really bite at the first press of the pedal is because the car only uses the regenerative braking. The normal brakes only start to bite, when the pedal is pressed harder and of course when it is really needed.
LOVE this car. Absolutely despise the low refresh rate of these digital speedometers. Volvo doesn’t do this, Tesla doesn’t do this. Not sure why this became a thing but it just gives the driver less information.
Your POV vids are great, but even better when it's a juxtaposition of a vehicle of this caliber with roads where I'm usually carting my family back and forth from the South Shore Mall or Legacy Place at significantly lower g-forces ;-).

4S range is not a problem at all, it easily gets 280+ miles

Luckily the door handles can be pulled even if they don’t pop out. There’s enough room to grab them. Not sure about the charge port door though

The only thing I want to keep is living in germany. I gotta admit, it's really frustrating seeing you drive a taycan and then staying below or near 75mph, these cars are made to sit comfortably at 150mph XD
My cheap used economy 3 series is perfectly happy at 120mph, it wants to go that speed. Straight as an arrow, just flying across the autobahn.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the Taycan. Even , yes, as a dedicated 987 Cayman driver. I just wish I could afford one. (would I sell my 987? No. Never. Still....)
The sport sound weirdly reminds me of that B-flat tone that comes on about 5000rpm in a F6, a.k.a. The Howl. 👏🏼
I could listen to that artificial sound all day. Thats what's missing from EVs, sound! I love to be able to hear my cars motor.
The reason why the brakes dont really bite at the first press of the pedal is because the car only uses the regenerative braking. The normal brakes only start to bite, when the pedal is pressed harder and of course when it is really needed.
I loved the 4S-- more premium feel but the drawback is range. Not an issue if you're running around town. More long trip, might be an issue.
It beat the Tesla across the country in the winter 🤷♂️
280 miles is the real world range of the 4S. Fast charge for 30mins and you're good to go again.
Taycan 4S has very high range!
Tesla range is being greatly exaggerated.. drive it like a proper car and you get waaaay less.

LOVE this car. Absolutely despise the low refresh rate of these digital speedometers. Volvo doesn’t do this, Tesla doesn’t do this. Not sure why this became a thing but it just gives the driver less information.

I dislike EV cars a lot, but I think Porsche nailed it. Especially with that warp sound.
You can change the brake feeling in settings to avoid regen and go straight to brakes if you don’t like the feeling.

Your POV vids are great, but even better when it's a juxtaposition of a vehicle of this caliber with roads where I'm usually carting my family back and forth from the South Shore Mall or Legacy Place at significantly lower g-forces ;-).
