Honestly, you'd be better off comparing the Panemera to the Taycan. I'm looking forward to the day when we get an electric 911, but we're not there yet and I think you've compared the Taycan to the wrong car. Obviously the 911 is going to be more fun on track, but these are machines with two very different purposes. Can I load a stroller into the 911?
Actually…. Yes you can. Not a B.o.b. But you can get one in. However your still right two very different cars as you said the Panamera VS tacan is a more likely cross shop especially plug-in Panamera.
The Taycan is a lot closer to the 911 though even having two more doors and usable seats
True but nobody cares about the Panamera. 911 is THE Porsche car. Why not compare them?

Great review! Love my taycan turbo when it works, currently at the dealer again for its third heat pump with no date on its arrival from Germany. 3 months of warranty work in 19 months ownership…..
Classic first generation car issues, have been particularly bad with electric cars due to the completely new technology. Had a friend with the launch edition Audi Etron which ended up back at the dealer multiple times with software issues for example. The next generation should be much better
@@sajjeel123 it was definitely better once it had the new software upgrade over the summer, but it’s turned itself off at traffic lights, had what only can be called the red ring of death (from the Xbox) show up twice and had to leave the car for an hour before it would work a replacement 12v battery fitted, the heat pump is a nightmare and I was told yesterday there is 16 at Porsche Wilmslow waiting for them, mine being number 16….
And people complain about Tesla. “Quality issues” which is just panel gaps that no consumers care about.
@@yungrichnbroke5199 if you actually look at both Chinese and German Tesla's build quality has dramatically improved, and from a technical standpoint they are still the leaders in the EV market, they are let down by styling though , the model s is the only one I think looks I could live with and the model 3 has as much charisma and is getting as common as the Ford Mondeo .

I think this was a really awesome look at two comparable offerings from one manufacturer. As shown, the dedicated sports car with 60+ years of development is a better performer on track. However; the practical, spacious, and electric offering gives 90% of the performance with actual room for 4 and a daily use package that can't be equaled by the 911. Plus you can get it in wagon or sedan variants.
Great review and comparison! I wish it wasn't the stationwagon version of the Taycan though, kind of an unfair fight.

Great comparison, I do wish you had the opportunity to compare the sport saloon instead of the sport turismo. The Saloon chassis is slightly better for two reasons, first of all it has a working active spoiler, and secondly the weight distribution is slightly better. The turismo chassis has more weight in the rear, which isn't ideal, since the Taycan was designed as the saloon, where they of course made it perfect, that's the optimal chassis. And I would never track it with the 20" original wheels. The optional 21" sets both sport wider tires, and better rubber. And better brakes are fitted if you go for that option, with bigger rotors and more pistons, and the brakes are on par with the 911. And with the PDCC system as well the car rolls less, and keep more of the weight balanced on all 4 wheels. I think most of that second difference would be gone if the car was spec'ed for a more performance oriented use.
But of course, that would probably not be the easiest comparison to do, but it would be the most interesting to watch. And it would make more sense. Buying a GTS without getting all the driving goodies makes little sense to me at least.
Just loving Rory’s passion and ability to explain what makes a car fun to drive. I’ve given up trying to explain to EV enthusiasts that weight is the biggest killer for fun and feel at the wheel. Most can’t see beyond the 0 to 60 but when you are carrying the weight of a british leyland mini in your boot you won’t stop or change direction in the way you want. You have to learn to drive around the weight which compromises the experience. It’s just a matter of time though, i’m holding high hopes for the 2025 718.
In fairness, I've heard that the Taycan disguises its weight quite well
Similar price, but 1 is a family hauling 5 door 5 passenger estate (station wagon) in this case, and the other is a 2+2 sports car. These cars are for 2 very different purposes. A better comparison would be this Taycan GTS vs a Panamera GTS which are also similarly priced 4-doors.

For a heavy, electric drivetrain, 2 additional seats, and a boot! Plus wagon space above the traditional boot space?…with just 1.15 seconds of separation on a closed course, ladies and gentlemen, the Taycan GTS is the winner here

what about the Taycan Turbo s vs the 911 GT3 or Turbo s
I wouldn't complain at having either of these but I'd love to see a Taycan with a 911 front end. The 911 is just so much more pretty in my eyes. Looked for a rendering to see if anyone had made an image up but only found a 911 with a Taycan front end, it wasn't bad but it's the round lights for me every day.
I’ve (only) got a 4S Taycan GT and whilst not as quick as the GTS is still a lot of fun and a lovely place to be. But as Rory said, these cars are great for local journeys, longer journeys with planning but they are not a 911 or similar track day car.

its a real down shift. Not fake. You can really feel the up and down shifting.. I dont own one but as a Porsche Taycan technician i do drive them almost daily. Taycan's are fun on the street but not even close to a 911 on how they drive on a rack. . Also even a Taycan GTS feels slow compare to the Taycan turbo model.

I've driven 992 and i own a taycan 4s. I agree with the review. Yes taycan understeers when pushed. But the reason for understeer is not the weight 11:25 .It's the suspension setup that makes taycan understeer. Remember Nissan gtr is also heavy, 1800kg compared to 2200kg taycan. I think Porsche made that on purpose to not to hurt 911 sales;)

Rented the Taycan this summer and two things I didn't like; the weight, feels really heavy and infotainment, too complicated and no hard button... loved the confort and quietness
It’s a bit apples to oranges to me. The 911 is a car you definitely would buy to track. The Taycan, whilst amazing fun on the track (from experience), is not a track car. As Rory said: the fact the Taycan even gets near is impressive.

Fantastic review. If power-to-weight is the critical factor, then if the Taycan's battery size were reduced, then it could potentially perform as well as the 911? 🤔 Albeit on short track days!! 🤣🤣
Not necessarily since battery size can relate to maximum power output at a given time, and that might lower power too. However there are ways to engineer around this issue.
The Taycan actually has a much smaller battery than a Lucid Air Dream Edition despite weighing the same. I'm not sure where the extra weight in the Taycan comes from, but I don't think it's the batteries
Meh, track days are already short with the big battery.. LOL
I guess if you have a fast charger right at the track you could run all day!

Best coo out I have ever heard
It’s worth noting that the Taycan is a year-round, all weather, *family* car that performs nearly (95%) as well as a 911 GTS in both a straight line and on a track, in spite of its extra weight and lower performance tires. Match the tires and it’s probably 97% of the 911’s performance, yet we take our Taycan 4S Cross Turismo on 500 mi road trips through the Colorado mountains in the winter with two kids and weekend luggage for all. Can’t do that in a 911!
What are the key differences between the Turbo S, GT3 and GTS?
In the 911s? Where to start… Turbo S has a 3.7L turbo that is blistering fast, GT3 is n/a 4.0 that is a dedicated track weapon, and the GTS is a 3.0 turbo that is the ‘drivers car’ that has all the amenities as well a few performance upgrades over the standard 911

A problem for the Taycan is that even relatively humble EVs can accelerate fast, whereas few relatively humble I.C.E.s can compete with a 911 in what it does best.
1 second is neither here nor there. It's a family car whereas the 911 is a purpose built track weapon. I'd take the Taycan every time.

You can get a manual transmission with the 911, and for that reason I'll take the 911 every time. It may not be the fastest, but it's the funnest for me.
This is a good reason for wanting something. Too many people get hung up on numbers and technical details. Liking something trumps all that.

Amazing Rory! I was not expecting all those power slides with a 911 4 Gts. When I tried a Turbo S on the track it was more composed the grip was insane, You surely are a much better driver then me, but I also suspect that electronic aids set up of a GTS are different than the Turbo. What do You think?
