      The best Bond film. Lazenby is the best. He he can do the action convicingly & handles the humorous stuff well. Also has a vulnerability & charm missing in other actors who take on the role. I actually like his awkwardness and amateurishness, it adds a further dimension to the film. He would have got better if he had continued in the role. Shame. Moore was a joke. Subsequent Bond films are lousy in my opinion.

      He actually said he wouldn't do any Bond movies after this one. They wanted him to sign a contact for 6 years that is kinda called a "Slave Contract" they eventually offered him One Million dollars just to sign it yet he turned it down. Basically if he signed it even outside his life they would tell him how to dress, what to wear, what to look like, and be in public. He grew a beard and after the movie was done and the told him "You can't come to the premier with a beard Bond doesn't have a beard".

      Forever be a missed opportunity. Aside from the schedule and conflicts over money Connery thought the series was becoming too ridiculous, especially inserting the space stuff into YOLT. This story probably would have been one Connery could have gotten his teeth into. They really should have followed Thunderball with OHMSS and set up the SPECTRE trilogy.

      @user-xp2gm8im2c 6 років тому +4

      I agree in Rigg and theme song. Love and respect are not enough for Lazenby. Looks and plays like a bodyguard, or Bond in the early years, and not with the agent 007 that the movie needed. We forget that the film was shot as in the book, and Bond is an experienced man in the book, as well as in the sixth film of the series. For the film (the most difficult), although the director has done very good work, has been filmed more like a romantic adventure, for example ''The Secret Agent and The Countess'' and not like a Bond film. Also i can't ignore that Bond and Blofeld have met in the previous film and in this film doesn't know each other.

      I think Lazenby's biggest mistake was not going back for "You Only Live Twice" or was it "Diamonds are Forever." (The one which they payed Connery an extortionate amount for, and which I think he donated his fee for it to the Scottish independence movement..... but I digress too much. If George Lazenby had done a few more then he would have established himself in the role and established himself more as an actor and probably as a household name too. I mean when you used to think of James Bond you either thought Sean Connery or Roger Moore, and the fool Lazenby could have been the other guy that played James Bond. You hear tales that he didn't get on with the crew or that Lazenby's people
      fu$€ed it up for him or that some thing went wrong somewhere else or other, I don't know and I guess we'll never know the definitive answer but it's still one of my favourite Bond Movies and Lazenby's still up there as a possible best Bond after Connery.

When I was "Bunny Deana" at the London Playboy Club, in the 60s and 70s, I was privileged to have been crowned Playboy Bunny of The Year by George, and I shall treasure the memory forever. The very precious (to me at least) photo of George performing the crowning, immaculately dressed in his beautiful Bond-style suit, is a proud part of my unique, personal Bunny Deana's Playboy Photo Album, available online.

    This is, imho, the best James Bond film. George Lazenby was an excellent 007, close to the books description, and he showed a very assured version of an emotional Bond even if it was his first experience as an actor. It's very sad that he rejected a contract to do more films portraying 007, because he'd certainly would become a very succesful one. Besides that, he didn't have an easy time with critics; but it's fairly evident that ANY actor succeeding Sean Connery in the lead role at that moment would surely receive the same hostility and rejection. Anyway, OHMMS is still considered one of the best (if not the best) of the series. It has all the time of the world... and time puts things in the proper perspective.

    • @martianmanhunter37
      @martianmanhunter37 8 років тому +4

      +BradWietersen This was Lazenby's first film role, and is lacked of experience showed in certain scenes. His scenes with Diana Rigg brought the best of him, especially the finale. But what Lazenby had was the physicality needed for the role. He was a martial artist and insisted on doing all the stunts he could (even injuring himself during the ski chase).
      In my opinion, Lazenby was decent, but still the least of the Bond actors, he never got the chance to fulfill his potential. He left the role because is publicist told him the times were changing and anti-establishment movies like Easy Rider and other hippie movies would break through the mainstream and Bond movies would become a relic.
      But the movie is still one of the better of the series, easily in my top 10.

    This is one of the best Bond movies:
    -No stupid gadget
    -No stupid secret base
    -Overall it is quite realistic and believable (most Bond movie aren't)
    -Telly Savalas is a Blofeld.
    -The movie's music theme is excellent and well used throughout the film
    -Action scenes are one step above what previous movies had
    Now it does have problems. Lazenby saying "I'm Bond" in the opening scene made me cringe. His jokes just don't work and sound corny. Only Connery seem to pull them off.
    But Lazenby played a more human, realistic Bond and it worked well in this movie because of the dramatic ending.
    It would have been very difficult for Connery to play the romance and dramatic ending in this movie.

What if Connery did all Bond films up to Octopussy? What if Moore agreed to be the first James Bond and play the role up to where he ended? What if Dalton took up the offer of being James Bond when he was offered the role instead of Lazenby, and play that role up to 1989, and then signed up to a contract after finishing Licence to Kill for up to 5 films starting with Goldeneye? What if Brosnan won the role of James Bond and then pitted against Connery in the 1983 Battle of the Bonds, and continue being Bond up to 2006?

      I can kinda understand it. Lot of criticism is Lazenby is kind of wooden of an actor, if you think about it if Sean Connery did this movie then it would probably have been his best Bond film, because the writing in this movie is very good!

George did a fine job and Diana also was superb in her role. When Diana passed away George made a lovely tribute to her . May 007 keep living on forever.

    The best of the Bond films imo, George Lazenby had something that Sean Connery didn't, a real connection and love of women. Sean is great for but him, women were a means to an end in his quests, whereas with George ... he was not only a fighter but a lover. Telly Savalas was superb as the villain, a real match for 007, clever, cunning, ruthless.
