The LOST Bond Film - The Property of a Lady 1961

  • Before Dr.NO there was The Property of a Lady. Never released for over 60 years, see Sean Connery as 007 in his debut mission, shot in 1961.
Only the most dedicated of fans know that after an early test screening all film negatives were destroyed in a fire by an enraged Albert R Broccoli who retooled the franchise, leaving this film as nothing more than a forgotten footnote in the series.
What you will see is the only remaining footage for "The Property of a Lady".
For those still reading, this is a fan edit made from two early Sean Connery films, Woman of Straw and the Frightened City, which has been colorized.
This was just a fun experiment and is NOT a real Bond film. See if you can make heads or tails from the plot!

The colorized scenes with Herbert Lom are from Frightened City 1961. Most of the rest is Woman of Straw 1964. The first time bond appeared was in 1954 on TV, Casino Royale, black and white, with Barry Nelson as an American Bond, screenplay by Ian Fleming.

I beg to differ. Sean Connery undeniably did a great job as Bond up until Diamonds Are Forever, which, arguably was the worst Bond film.
The bad script didn't help, but Connery just wasn't into it. Never Say Never Again was better than Diamonds and, well, I'll just leave it at that. Well, one final note on Never - best scene was
Fatima Blush: "You know that making love to Fatima was the greatest pleasure of your life."
Connery: "Well to be perfectly honest, there was this girl in Philadelphia - "
      Fatima Blush: "SHUT UP!!!"

Actually the film is two stories in one. Fleming’s novella “Octopussy” (where practically none of the story elements are used) and his short story “Property of a Lady” (where the Fabrege egg auction scene is concerned).

Daniel Craig totally destroyed the franchise.
It has totally lost its way.
But I would suggest they base the New Bond on the 007 novels of John Gardner starting with Licence Renewed. I want to see that Silver Beast he drove in it, his beautiful SAAB 900 Turbo. What a sight that would be to see.

Amazing...Herbert Lom and Sir Ralph Richardson appear...Gina was in first Pink Panther, as Maharaja's daughter...and owner of the jewel, while Lom was in "Shot in the Dark" and the sequels...Tom Jones song Thunderball seems to be the theme... Character actors I've seen in the Avengers P. ?Macnee show... a Faberge egg, seen in "Octopussy." The spike/back death and devil mask above... Does look mediocre as ochre... Classical music for suspense at one point... Thanx! was in jamaica for '62 independence, August, months after "Dr. No" filmed... Manyway...And who played Dr. Yes in Get Smart...and delusional Tut in Batman? Not Roger C. Carmel...who was in 2 Star Treks as a flamboyant crook, Mudd? Blit blored. Eric Blore...another fave... See Q Planes and The Wrong Box for Sir Ralph, also a crooked minister impersonator, early 30s...Old Dark House? while Lom was in so much as a villain in '50s...

This is horrible. Taking random snippets of film and dubbing a few seconds of dialogue from Bond films with a smattering of Bond music do not make a watchable video. Especially not for 22+ minutes. It’s pure torture.

You’re right, of course. But I don’t think the idea was to make a James Bond movie. The idea was to get some footage of the young Sean Connery and splice it together. No attempt for cohesive plot. There are lots of Sean Connery movies featuring him in his 40s 50s and 60s. I think he did well to string together Sean Connery at what? Age 33?

"The Property of a Lady” was not written by Ian Fleming. It is actually a novel by Elizabeth Adler. Ian Fleming was also outraged by someone who dared to copy his James Bond creation and wanted the film destroyed! However, Ian Fleming (in his childish spite) used the same title, “The Property of a Lady,” to write a short story featuring his fictional secret agent James Bond.

Portrait of a Lady ….. Not The property of a Lady and it was filmed in 1964 not 61 , The script was written in 1961 and the film was going to be a detective movie not a bond movie but changed later due to a script rewrite that was never finished due to Issues with the Fleming Family’s copyright laws on the Books . Then literally over night Sean Connery was asked to do From Russia with love and the Movie was dropped for a Better Script of the Book From Russia with love, Sean agreed as long as he was allowed to do other projects with any other studio , All Parties agreed. The rest is History. Seans salary was paid for the unfinished movie and double the salary for Russia with love, Because he had to drop out of Cleopatra so Richard Burton took his role instead. I would also add most of the clips were nothing to do with Portrait of a Lady but clips from other films added to make it look better,
