It does look like Samyang is knocking it out of the park with this zoom, I'm just looking forward to what else they might have in store for the future (a affordable, high-performance 70-200/2.8? a 100mm macro?). If they keep this up it seems like they might be able to replace Tamron and even Sigma as the best third-party option for Sony FE lenses.
Great lens and great review! There's a ton of online lens reviews but most cater either to photographers or to video. I love how you cover everything for everyone (quickly and beautifully). Barely anyone covers both Parfocalness and Focus breathing while also covering all the things that are more geared to photographs. Congrats and thank you! I found the opposite actually, for me the shift in focus is more significant when zooming out. At about 60mm is where completely loses it before coming back in. Zooming in it’s a little less noticeable if you go really slow. If it’s not possible at this price point (which I agree!) they shouldn’t be calling it parfocal.
@@juliatrotti I think we're talking about two different things :) What you seem to describe is the fact, that the refocus is slower to follow the zooming before the motor electronically corrects for the previous distance (because the optics itself is not parfocal and more importantly even a bit variable unless really expensive - there's a nice blog post on LensRentals about that). Typically this is during weddings when I want to get wide and close during the walk down the aisle. Considering upgrading to the samyang of the tamron g2 but they are different price points... Is this worth the additional 300?
This is not a definitive answer but I was reviewing some combat sports training videos at 60 fps shot a few days ago with my Tamron 28-75 G2 in a very dark training room at high ISOs. @@MarkElliar I like the build quality. It's a fair price for what you get. I have the Sigma 24-70mm here also. So I have been comparing how I feel about the 2 lenses. I prefer the Samyang for the way the lense feels and works, I also prefer the Samyang for focus as it seems to be great in low light vs the Sigma which seems to struggle a little more in low light. I think the Samyang is more than sharp enough for its price. I prefer the colour tone of the Sigma as it just seems slightly more vibrant. I have not tried video yet as it's not really my thing. I wish the Samyang was a little better for me with vibrancy then I could just sell on the Sigma. I will spend a bit of time with colour profiles and see if I can compensate. It's a great lense for the money but I don't think it's worth moving from the Sigma to the Samyang unless you have one of the older versions of the Sigma that suffered with the seal and dust issues
Hi Cj, this is what i seeking for in many days, your sigma don't have the dust issues? And how about your samyang 24-70 lens? I mean any issues for your samyang lens?
@@maxinefavian4899 personally my Sigma and my Sons do not suffer with the dust issues in the older serial number lenses. We each have a Sigma 24-70 from amazon UK and neither have dust issues. We'll used lenses in outoor locations. As for the Samyang I have not used it for the last month. I just find that the Sigma is the better all round lense for me. It feels much better in my hand, the MF/AF on the lense barrel switch is useful as I usually shoot on Manual Vintage Primes anyway so MF/AF switch being there on the lense barrel is great if I do chose to focus by AF for a fast moving subject. Long term shooting I find the Sigma better for me. Like I say the Samyang not been used for a month. That's a statement itself. I think it will be returned or sold on
@@MarkElliar you know, I never tried the Sony GM yet. The price was a bit high but I only hear good things about it. Never seen bad reviews on it anyway. I looked for it on Black Friday sales but amazon actually put price up in UK for the sale 😂 hope it works out well for you. Enjoy 👍
I have autofocus problem in video mode with this 24-70 and a7iv, and im not sure why. Basically to get eye af working i have to tap on object or person, or hold af bitton while shooting. If in photo mode i get green square, in video mode i never get green square, but grey one instead. I have AF-c on with human eye autotrack priority on and im not sure why i have these problems. Its a pain to film on gimbal, half of footage is out of focus and tbh i dont know what to do anymore.
I'm buying the Samyang....24-70 ...hell no am i going to spend $$ 800.00 more to get Sony lens... thank you for the review, helped me make my choice.... for sure i'm buying the Samyang. Besides it's the Sony body/software that always focus on the eye brow and eye lash .... i won't blame the lens.
I'm actually having issues with mine. I use this on my A7 mark i and autofocus works very very well but for some reason in movie mode AF-C does not work very well it will not pick focus it just stays out of focus. wondering if it's because my body is old but that also doesn't make sense because autofocus is very good.

IYO which would be more beneficial to a beginner for portrait/product: 85mm1.8 or Speedlite/trigger/Softbox
Dang I've been waiting for Samyang 24-70 reviews to start coming out
I spent the whole video comparing the hdmi out pip to whatever you recorded the video with. Def prefer the pip 🤷♂️
Great video review, I'm looking for this lens to be available in Canada as I was considering this Samyang, or the new Tamron 28-75 G2 or the Sigma 24-70 Art or even the Sigma contemporary 28-70.
I like your channel so I subscribed. Take care.
Hey Julia you always did good thing I love you❤❤❤
Would be interesting to see a comparison between the Samyang and the Sony Zeiss 24-70 f4.
Thinking of selling my Zeiss and getting this, I now get into areas where I need the faster aperture 🤔
Very nice video. I am planning to get one here in NZ, let’s see how my copy turns out. Thanks heaps.
Great video 👌 how did you record the camera Evf while shooting?
Nice catch with the parfocal thing, I probably wouldn’t have noticed that =)
I have never heard about this solution for parfocal lens. thank you.
Fantastic. Love your stuff. And model is gorgeous too. Are you going to get the a74?
She already got it. She did an unboxing video
@@_cjmccullough Thank you. I missed that video.
This lens delivers beautiful photos
Brilliant review! Thank you!
Is this lens the same as the Rokinon 24-70mm that was released in January 2022?
Would you get the Samyang brand new or the Sigma used?
So the big question when doing focus pulls manually for video: Is it focus by wire, or linear?
Hi Julia, this was worth the wait! My faves are at the 2:36, 2:39 and 9:08 marks of the video! Unfortunately I received an email saying that this lens is also on backorder! Lol. Oh well, patience is the virtue I guess...
Thank you Frank! Ahh it’s tough waiting so long to get something, but it’ll be all the more exciting once you finally get it in your hands 😄
@@juliatrotti I agree, I will be patient. Looking forward to your next video!
Hey Julia...I love your work, please keep on posting... :) What picture profile are you using in the stills ? Greeting from Denmark
Thank you! I always shoot standard picture profile for stills
@@juliatrotti Thanks for your reply..all the best to you :)
Very warm photos like the look
Just got mine today. Going to compare to my Sigma 24-70mm tomorrow
Hey!! Did you reviewed sigma 24-70 f2.8 dgdn art lens?✨
That’s video I was 👀 for … 🙌🙌
another lovely video!
mình đang phân vâng giữa samyang 24-70 f28 và tamron 28-75 f2.8 mong bạn cho mình lời khuyên nhe . thanks your
please compare it to sigma 24-70 2.8 ART side by side?
Ох, спасибо! Именно этого объектива искал обзор !
Please review Samyang 24-70mm F2.8 vs sigma 24-70mm F2.8
What's the build like? Is it plastic or metal barrel? I'm guessing metal judging by the weight of that monster
I ordered this lens over sigma. The only turn off factor with sigma was the dust issues.
Im leaning towards the samyang for this reason
c'est toujours passionnant merci
I'm buying the Samyang....24-70 ...hell no am i going to spend $$ 800.00 more to get Sony lens... thank you for the review, helped me make my choice.... for sure i'm buying the Samyang. Besides it's the Sony body/software that always focus on the eye brow and eye lash .... i won't blame the lens.
I can see why you like it and I can see why people say get the Tamron 28-75 g2
One question: my copy of this lens won’t focus to infinity at 70mm. Please help.
Great work sis!
I'm actually having issues with mine. I use this on my A7 mark i and autofocus works very very well but for some reason in movie mode AF-C does not work very well it will not pick focus it just stays out of focus. wondering if it's because my body is old but that also doesn't make sense because autofocus is very good.
For video it's A7III or later....
Which one do you recommend between Samyang and Sigma 24-70? And why?
Sooo 🤔 sigma 24-70 2.8 or samyang 24-70 2.8 ?
