Everyone should want it to be sharp. If you think it's too sharp, then simply adjust the clarity slider in your raw editor. It's easy to remove detail but difficult to add it.
Everyone wants/needs different things from their camera equipment. This lens simply isn’t for my specific style of photography, and I wouldn’t buy a lens that requires me to lower the clarity or use a pro mist filter every time I use it. That just shows me I would need a different lens where the photos are ready to go. But objectively I still think this is a stunning lens and the ultra sharpness will come in handy for a lot of photographers/videographers.
It’s a different style. How some people love vintage. Which aren’t sharp but soft and graining. If everyone loves tacked sharp photos there would be no uniqueness in photography
I don't think sharpness is the issue, I think there are many other factors involve in selecting a lens. I will be honest from this review I don't really like the skin tone reproduced by this lens, in recent months I have used Sigma DG DN 85mm F1.4, Voigtlander 58mm F1.4 and Nikon Nikkor 105 F2.5. Sigma 85mm is sharp and can produce nice, rich and true to life colour tones, but for a close up shot Sigma 85mm's sharpness can expose imperfect skins and it is revealing for imperfect skin as you can pixel peeping if you want to see the flaw to the level of skin pore. But I shot with Voitlander or Nikkor there is that natural soft rendering with that nice pop in colour and contrast , these lens will not win the sharpness contest with Sigma but they are sharp enough even for A7R4, even print on an 17 inch printer I don't think they put A7R4 at a disadvantage, zooming in to 200% I can certainly see the difference in resolution.
It was really interesting to hear you talk about the sharpness of the images. A lot of my images (with a different lens) are very sharp. Which is great! But not always what you want, style-wise.
@@juliatrotti Omg yay!, I appreciate the reply, I just ordered the 28-75 G2 from Tamron and had a hard time finding any comparison videos but I did run across your 28-75 G2 review! Thank you!

1. you could add a softening lens filter 2. you could fix every sharpness issue in photoshop through portrait retouching, dodging and healing, spot healing etc.
I would love to see a new portrait editing Video (beginning to end, including skin retouching) because I feel like apart from just the regular frequency separation the skin (full body) looks somewhat extra smooth and bronzey in your photos over the past maybe 2 years and I can't put my finger on how you do that. It's so particular and pretty, i can't get over it.
Sony have probably made the Mkii so sharp because they're aiming to future proof it for when they start releasing even higher resolution sensors than the ones they have now.

I haven't used that Sigma lens yet unfortunately, but what I can say from experience using other Sigma lenses like the 35mm f1.4 DG DN, while the image quality is practically the same as the GM 35mm f1.4, the only place where you lose a bit of performance is on high speed subjects. The GM usually gets more photos in focus compared to the Sigma. Again, I haven't tested this particular 24-70 though!

Hi, it really depends on your style. If you want strong background separation for your portrait shots or something light for street then you could buy an affordable 1.8 prime eg. 85mm, 55mm or 35mm and for the zooms go with the F4 versions. They are way cheaper and lighter compared to their 2.8 GM counterpart but work very well for real estate, travel and landscape eg. F4 16-35, F4 24-105, F4 70-200. Of course the GM lenses have certain qualities that make them the best on the market but you have to pay premium price for that and you should really ask yourself if you will have a benefit from that or not. If you are a pro then maybe the extra 15% corner sharpness justifies the purchase but in many cases it might be better to spend that on travel or a workshop.
The AF speed for video at the end is a setting in the menus. I can tell from the video that you don't have it at the fastest setting, and there are two. Sensitivity = how fast you want it to detect and adjust for autofocus; speed = how fast you want it to focus pull. It's all about what "look" you want for video as it doesn't really look natural when AF speed is too fast to react, and is pulling too fast.
I bought 24-70 first version a couple days ago and now we have new version...so sad(( But from other side - I think Mark 2 will be more expensive, right?
If you’re only going to use it with a filter then maybe a different lens would be better altogether. But otherwise yes! You could do some landscape photography but then pop on a pro mist for portraits 😄
One awesome lens. But what is actually much more amazing is that 35 years ago Minolta was already making A M A Z I N G and COMPACT 24-80mm AF Zooms with optical quality rivaling today's. Sony has Minolta's DNA allover and buying them, absorbing their technology and bringing along their technicians was one of Sony's best business decisions of all of its history. Sony's imaging department today would be nothing without Minolta. From AF, to Live view, Mirrorless, Its all thanks to Minolta.. they had it all then, just no idea how to sell it. Sony knows how to sell.

It's all about what "look" you want for video as it doesn't really look natural when AF speed is too fast to react, and is pulling too fast.
I always do my photo and video AF tests with both settings set to the fastest when the subject is moving.
I bought 24-70 first version a couple days ago and now we have new version...so sad((
But from other side - I think Mark 2 will be more expensive, right?
It’s $3299 in Australian dollars!
could u share ur A7M3 settings plz?
Thank you for the video! could you also do group or how to take group pictures? Thanks
This lens would be perfect paired with a pro mist filter to reduce the sharpness, but retaining that versatility.
lol then just keep the mark I
@@craigman7262 haha you’re right 🤦🏽♂️
If you’re only going to use it with a filter then maybe a different lens would be better altogether. But otherwise yes! You could do some landscape photography but then pop on a pro mist for portraits 😄
POR QUE FILTRO PARA NO EDITAR LAS INPERFECCIONES DE LAS PERSONAS?@@juliatrotti
wow. I didn’t even know this released. Debating on upgrading or not.
Nice Review 👍🏻
Thanks Julia
Could you share sony a7III settings you used in this video?
We want ef 24 70 f2.8 mark2 on canon 5d mark iv vs sonya7iv with this gm 24 70 markii
It's an amazing lens but it's way to expensive. The good thing about this lens is a bit lighter and smaller. It's good for video
hello i want to Ask , how to you record your screen on your camera as a video ?
that custom button placement is very weird.. wish it wasnt on top haha
My only lens now. "He who chases 2 rabbits, chases neither. " - Confucius
14mm GM catches all the Rabbits
Is it just me or in the side by side comparisons near the end the MK2 is slightly warmer with a minor green tint?
No, you are not the only 1 notice that that minor green tint is the reason I am not into the colour of this lens.
How would you compare to the Sigma 24-70 DG DN?
That’s the only new 24-70 I haven’t had the chance to use yet! I will be borrowing it soon to make a video about it.
Its good for video?
I LIKE U R PHOTOGRAPHY MADAM

i want to be an photographer too your good in photography
What’s the price ??
$2,299.99
@6:30. The GM 24-70 mk2 is sharp and contrasty but that Samyang has so much personality.
Now can buy mark 1.
I had to pause the preset. I thought it said something else.
I am only here to hear your voice ❤️
No frikin way!
I'm sorry but high beach sound in the voice. It's incredibly disturbing. Maybe it's just me
i love you
Go glad I didn’t buy the old one now

Sony is making it harder and harder not to switch back from Canon.
Sony is amazing with cameras.
I haven't used canon mirrorless cameras but I had DSLRs from canon for a few years. Never going back again.
