This is so neat! I wish it had been sold and picked up by a network or syndicated. Can't go wrong with Allen Ludden as host.
It was fun but it had too much resemblance to a bunch of other popular shows on the air at the time. Thats why it didnt sell.
I agree, I thought it should have sold
Unfortunately, CBS was moving away from game shows at the time...after daytime To Tell the Truth ended that same year, they didn't air another GS until the short-lived Amateur's Guide to Love in 1972, and it wasn't until later in said year that the genre would make a proper comeback on the network with the successful debut of The (New) Price is Right/The Joker's Wild/Gambit.
Also, Hatos-Hall tried another TP pilot in 1976 for ABC, this time w/Monty Hall as host and only 8 celebs (plus some trivia/word game elements to add more variety), but it also failed to sell.
and I believe 72 was also debut of $10k pyramid🤪
I was living for carols Tarzan yell !!!
Love Ann Millers hair!! Reminds me of The Supremes.
Interesting that Carol Burnett and Paul Winchell both appeared here. Carol got her first tv gig on his show in 1955
This is like 'Eye Guess', but with celebrities. You would've loved this if you liked 'Eye Guess'!
You look at the big names they were able to get for celebs back then. You would never be able to get such of an equal level today.
There is NO Quality today, as These Actors!
i've met a few of these stars, Carol, Tommy, Angela and Lorne
thank u for allen ludden and his shows!!
I've noticed that a few years later Monty Hall hosted this show. I wonder how many shows played on the network before they cancelled it. I wish I could find more of these shows.
Both were 1 episode pilots only... no more exist.
Hard to believe celebrities would be content to sit behind a closed door for 90 percent of a show.
this is basically a game that took the laugh-in bit of celebs popping out from behind squares to say something funny
And Eye Guess's memory
This was made in the UK years later as “ celebrity squares “.
no, that was the uk's version of hollywood squares
Ivan Ditmars was the musical director. Jay Stewart is the announcer.
Yep! Both were staples of "LET'S MAKE A DEAL".
There was another pilot hosted by Monty Hall but it was reformatted slightly, still went unsold.
Some time later Monty Hall revived this with another attempt to have this a game show.
The Brits bought the format and it became PUNCHLINES
Shame Allen Ludden was "typecast" to Password and its variants. It seems most of his other game shows ended up in pilots (exceptions being GE College Bowl and Stumpers).
Don't forget the Liar's Club
Surprised that Betty White didn't show up.
The window opening reminds me of Laugh In. This could have gone on to be very funny if they worked out kinds. Made it more fast paced or something. I guess maybe I'm just more impressed with the star lineup.
swampzoid It would work best with the right mix of comedians and stars, like this pilot was. It would have been hard to make it work week after week.
I don't think the silent picture needed to be a character, could have been a mystery celebrity.
Seems like a tough game
Reminds me too much of Eye Guess.
"Eye Guess" meets "Hollywood Squares".
With parts of LMAD (obviously concidering who produced it) and Concentration.
2:02
The first two segments of the game are pretty good, the last segment drops off. It needed a better end round.
Director, Joe Behar (also worked on other Hatos-Hall shows including "Let's Make a Deal"), was married at the time to Joy Behar, who was a schoolteacher and had not yet gotten into show business.
And unfortunately, for show biz, she did.
What is this exactly? I'm not sure. Thanks.
I never heard of this game show.
Nan Fagan well it never got past the pilot stage.....
10:46 1:25 13:38 ur welcome ppl
Didn’t this become a 70s game show?
Nope.
This show would be great as a sleep aid.
Only thing missing is the Fremantle Media logo at the end.
They don't own that show......yet.
Yeah-huh! Only in these BUZZR TV Formats.
Need the rules
need the rules
Agnes Moorehead didn't get to relate her first "secret", not cool.
The first 2 questions must have been scripted. Each contestant was told which answer to give for maximum comic effect, and no effect on the scores. Just my observation.
Z p
Clunky but cute.
A copycat of "Eye Guess", but not as enjoyable.
The "silent comedy" character was completely pointless. All it did was slow down the game. If there had been a penalty (maybe lose $10) for choosing that door, it would have made more sense.
