Guys, there might be different reason for similar issues. Truck not going into gear or dropping down into neutral gear could be just computer problem not recognizing which gear it needs, or it could be clutch slip/clutch disengagement. What you can do IS check your code. Push the key and turn into ignition few times quickly and your screen should show a code. if it is 26 or 27 then it is clutch issue.
Could this be the same issue as always I warm the truck up sometime the dt12 goes in to Dr or rev very slow when I switch the shifter I did replace new shifter check engine light does not come back anymore so far
What people don’t understand is. Automatic transmission you need to let the truck warm up. Water temperature is down to 0 and you want the transmission to do its thing. Not happening. Warm the truck up and try again my friend

But if u needs to move it out drive to shop, u need to put transmission in neutral and turn engine of for 10 to 15 mins then crank back up and then try to put in drive. If it doesn't go in drive then put in reverse and it should go in. But whenever it does just do not turn engine off until u reach ur destination. It will stay in drive until turned off
I have one now with USX. This damn thing can't decide what gear it wants when coming to a stop and I have to manually shift it going up a hill heavy. I'd rather have a manual transmission and I will never sit two days at a dealer like one of you said. I'd leave the damn truck there for someone to go get! Mercedes Benz will never have me as a customer either because they own freightliner. If that's how their service is too, I'd never own a benz.
i have an emergency question if you can help please … I have 2016 Cascadia with dt12 automatic transmission and my shift controller on the transmission is damaged … does that make my truck not to start at all ????????????????????? the guy who checked my truck with the computer said so but I kind of have a doubt as it doesn't make sense unless if you confirm i also changed the cpc4 and reprogrammed it to my vin and still doesn't start the truck and that's the only error it's showing just to mention ... the cpc was changed as it was stolen from my truck and i bought 2 used ones ... one is not programmed and it does crank my truck but won't throttle or put gear on .. and the second one is the programmed to my vin and doesn't crank the truck at all
mines currently at the dealer with the same problem as well as numerous other stop engine problems, Mine would refuse to go into gear and just fart sound like it was trying to find a gear. Once it warmed up it started working problem free with no issues unless it started running hot in the summer pulling 45k loads over the mountains and temps hit 250f+ Then it would just dog out and fart the same way.

You should warm it up a little more. I have exact same problem. After 10 hours of truck being off, I usually warm it at least 20 monutes. Once the water is between 0-100 F the truck shifts better.
This is a split pin issue, once the trans is warmed up the pin moves freely. There is a fix for this now, all trucks that experience this issue can be fixed at no charge at your local FTL dealer as long as the truck is within warranty still (5 years 750K miles).

there is problem with transmission wiring inside. it happen with 5 of my trucks. you have to replace wiring inside transmission case.WIRES are touching something inside, there is nothing you can do. shake the truck really good, by giving it a pull or push, and it will work till next time, it can happen every hour, or it can happen only 1 time per month,

@@kidanezere9607 it was covered under warranty, but every time it brakes down , we have to tow it to dealer, and when it gets there, it works fine. until i figured out how to show problem to dealer, let the truck sit for couple days OFF , and then finally dealer see problem , starts and not working

yes there is an update, one of the shift forks pivot in an aluminum boss (case housing) it gets worn . fix is to get repair kit- remove trans from truck pull left side off trans case , remove shift fork, ream housing install brass bushing and reassemble. newer trans have the brass bushing from the factory.
Right, thats really whats supposed to be done but frieghtlinr claims " these new automatics r designed to not need warming up like the oldr engines". They claim its ready to go aftr air pressure is fully charged. Yeah right. I totally agree u r supposed to let any diesel warm up at least 30 mins.

always warm your truck for 30 min. this problem won't happen
water temp is so low. warm the truck.
I had same issue. Transmission start working good after I warm up and water temp go up.
